4.0 Playoff thoughts

So I am guessing this is what the playoffs will look like. Please correct me if I am wrong I have been drinking tonight.

DCC
Flight 1
HP/Somabut
GH/Arnette

Flight 2
Lakes
Springpark

QT:
Flight 1
1-Lifetime-29 total wins
4-LB/Spagnola-21 total wins
6-BH/Helterbrann-19 total wins

Flight 2
2-TBar-26 total wins
3-Garland-23 total wins
5-LBH Jones-21 total wins

Two teams make it out of the QT since High Point won their flight. If the QT flights stay like this it would obviously come down to LTF and LBH in the 1st flight with LBH probably winning a close one.

The other flight will be tough. I know Garland beat BH but not sure they could duplicate that win again so easily. TBar is good but how good since they lost to the only two quality teams in their flight. So I guess I would have to go with Garland.

As far as the DCC, HP should coast to the final and get one of the spots and the other flight will be very tough and I would have to go with Springpark granted they don't lose Gene or Mitch.

  1. Are you guessing these are the flights based on # of wins or have you seen something posted? I would really be surprised if they put two teams from the same flight together. Garland vs Brookhaven should be interesting as I bet that one becomes a lineup game.

Flight A if it is how you projected, will come down to who is healthy. Don Allen hasnt played since May and Eddie Hill may be back, but not in full capacity. I like LT if Eddie is there. Eddie was good as a line 1 singles, he will be real good as line 2.

    ReplyDelete
  2. So how is Eddie's shoulder? Has he played lately?

    ReplyDelete
  3. We'll be right back to EDDIE TALK after this break from our sponsor, Massengil.

Fresh as a country lane after a spring shower, wouldn't you like to be?

    ReplyDelete
  4. A healthy Eddie won't make much difference in the playoffs. He might do well in the QT, but he will lose in the city playoffs. He's just not that good.

    ReplyDelete
  5. I agree, I like Eddie and I think his game keeps hitting better and bitter but if I was an opposing captain I would be thrilled to see Eddie in one of the singles spots.

    ReplyDelete
  6. You guys crack me up about your Eddie comments. The guy picked up a racket for the first time 3 years ago and is already a solid 4.0 player. I've never seen him claim to be anything else. He simply promotes his team and has fun with it. The rest of you losers take personal shots at him and other players.

    ReplyDelete
  7. I've heard Eddie laid off a month so he could play in the QT since Forrest is out of town. He's got to be rusty but will probably play #2 singles and do fine. Can Wines (anyone know anything about this guy? - he appears to win except when he plays a strong 4.0 like McKinney or Keller) step up and play the #1 role? We'll see. Maybe in the QT but not the DCC but if LTF makes it out of the QT, maybe they will have both Forrest and Wines for the DCC.

Who will LBH-Spagnola play on their singles lines?

    ReplyDelete
  8. It doesn't appear Wines ever plays tournaments so there's not much on him. He lost to Endress (4.5) in a close 3-setter when Endress was a 4.0 so he's got to be okay.

    ReplyDelete
  9. I would guess LBH's two singles players in a big match would be Ratana and Walker. Their best cahnce of advancing is to win both singles and a doubles match.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Take a look at Eddie's record in the post season. never lost. like 8-0

    ReplyDelete
  11. I'll make a prediction that Eddie's number to right will change after the QT.

    ReplyDelete
  12. It is actually 6-0. Still pretty impressive. DCC and a Sectional 3-0 in both at 3.5 in separate years

    ReplyDelete
  13. If Lifetime can make it to the DCC nobody will even know if Eddie's on the court. This DCC will have the strongest singles players that I can ever rememeber having. Normally there are two or three singles players that would be considered "studs". This year there will probably be closer to ten and a healthy Eddie would not be in that group. Eddie is a solid 4.0 and a nice guy, but he will not be a factor in the playoffs.

  14. but I saw Kamel out there with the Spagnolas .. he is a solid tournament adult player, I think he plays 35 or 40 or may be open!! I was told he is a horrible doubles player though. may be that is why he is 4.0, LBH may be sand bagging him we'll see!!

    ReplyDelete
  15. All it takes to play 35 or 40 age group tournaments is 35 or 40 birthdays and an entry fee. To play Open only takes the entry fee. Looking at Kamel's results it doesn't appear to me that he will be LBH secret weapon.

  16. Tennislink showing you guys 2008 records huh! 2007 records show him top 3 in 35 and about 70 in Open http://tennislink.usta.com/tournaments/rankings/rankinglists.aspx?id=404270

need to know how translate to 4.0 level, my guess at least above average

    ReplyDelete
  17. That number 70 in Opens and a total of 175 points is over 8 tournaments. That may be better than average but it is not 'ringer.'

    ReplyDelete
  18. Also, half of his wins in Open were default no shows.

    ReplyDelete
  19. you can stop the Kamal research. I saw him play, he is no ringer, in fact he should have played 3.5 he would have helped a LBH team make a run for something. He is an average 4.0. Lorenzo controlled him in our match but I will say he adjusted his came to come back and win but Walker and Ratana are the strength of that team along with their top two doubles pairings. I don't think Kamal will see the court in an important match.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Cary, is your team playing against the LTF team this weekend? If so, will you provide some scouting reports? Is this just for fun???

    ReplyDelete
  21. HOUSTON WILL OWN YOU ALL LIKE LAST YEAR

    ReplyDelete
  22. Ok, here the scoop on Eddie, his shoulder is fine and he probably has the most integrity of any 4.0 captian. All of his player are ligit 3.5 or 4.0 players. If he thought differently, he wouldn't put them in the line up. It just wouldn't be right to win at 4.0 with anything but computer rated, non-appealing 4.0 players...now would it?

    ReplyDelete
  23. Integrity on self rating?

Why do they have self rating?

I had laid off of competitive tennis for a good couple of years, and no teams were exactly inviting me to play at my former rating.

Eddie will be 4.5 within a year, he's that good of an athlete. He needs some instruction to take his backhand to the next level, but his movement is excellent.

I do agree with you on his integrity. He's a fine person and polite competitor.

    --Mitch.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Forrest is out? Wow that's news to me. Someone better go tell Forrest though. He's going to be pissed the blog benched him! ha ha.

LTF will rattle some cages come post season. For those who think that only weak teams come from weak flights, just keep thinking that. Rest the guys for the "real matches" pleaze!

    ReplyDelete
  25. Here's my ranking of QT singles players (I believe the teams that advance to the DCC will be those with the best singles players):

    1) Ratana - LBH Spagnola
    2) Walker - LBH Spagnola
    3) Wallace - TBar
    4) McKinney - Garland
    5) Wines - LTF
    6) Russell - Garland
    7) Solomons - TBar
    8) Hill - LTF (would be higher but torn rotator cuff is not a good tennis injury)
    9) Boccara - BH
    10) Cooper - LBH Jones

So, if LTF, LBH-Spagnola and LBH-Jones are in the same flight, LBH-Spagnola advances.

If TBar, Garland and BH are in the same flight, a dogfight between Garland and TBar but I'd go with Garland.

It will be interesting to see how the lesser knowns like Wines, Russell and Boccara do so we can size them up. Of course, all of them get pounded at the DCC but the Garland/TBar and LBH-Spagnola/LTF matches will be fun to watch. I wish these matches started this weekend.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I'm drinking and playing mixed doubles this weekend and I think Eddie is getting a bionic arm installed this weekend but if anything changes we will let you know.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Solomons is a nice guy but I would move him down or out of that list, mainly because I pushed him to a 3rd set, anyone who has trouble crushing me should not be in any top 10 list. I was injured in that match as well. He does have a solid forehand but not sure he can hang with any of the guys in that list.

    No offense Patrick.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Is it just me, or is Russell really weak at the net? I don't see that guy putting away balls like he should. That is really going to hurt them. And he doesn't come to the net enough to make a difference in the games. They are going to have some real trouble on that line.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Umm - why is Forrest not on that list?

    ReplyDelete
  30. Great net play typically isnt a requirement of singles players - its a plus, but not a requirement.

    ReplyDelete
  31. wow with LBH Jones in the QT mix now both these flights look solid.

I am not sure I don't like Jones's team. I know I have never seen them but the new kids in town seem a little scary, if they had the DQ'ed Dillender I think they might be a lock to visit the DCC but they will be a tough out come July.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Cary are those QT flights projections or official?

    ReplyDelete
  33. QT flights have not been officially named so everything is speculation. The DTA does not post its rules, if they have any, on deciding flights.

I believe I heard or read that Forrest is out of town for the QT and not available.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I was looking at Cary's QT flight projections and I think they might look a little different. I would assume that the four second place finishers would take the top 4 seeds and then the top two third place teams would get the 5 and 6 seeds. If that is the case the flights would be:

    Flight 1

    #1 Lifetime(Hill) Flight A
    #4 LB Houston(Jones) Flight C
    #6 Brookhaven(Helterbran) Flight B

    Flight 2

    #2 Garland(Brueckner) Flight B
    #3 LB Houston(Spagnola) Flight D
    #5 TBM(Colao) Flight A

This would also insure that teams from the same regular season flight will not be in the same QT flight. This is all speculation. I have no idea waht the flights will be in the QT. If this is how the flights look at the QT Flight 2 will be loaded and Flight 1 will be considerably weaker. A majority of the preceived top singles players will be in Flight 2.

  35. BREAKING NEWS!

Lifetime (Hill) has officially changed their name for the QT.

For future reference, they are to be named, "EDDIE-TIME"

    More to follow.
    Signed,
    Adam Jones

  36. How is Eddie today?

    ReplyDelete
  37. that's funny. I was thinking, "Who the hell is Adam Jones?" I will show him "Eddie TIME" when I see him on the court. Then it hit me... PACMAN
Funny. Gay Time, that's good, let's start talking about each other's mom's now, and passing notes about the girls we like in class.

    ReplyDelete
  38. I think those girls that play at LTF are hot... Eddie will you pass a note for me?

    ReplyDelete
  39. Please stop picking on Eddie. What has he done to deserve this?

    ReplyDelete
  40. He beat my azz for starters. That was enough to tick ME off!

    ReplyDelete
  41. Shouldn't be hard to figure the last anonymous post. Pretty short list. Just joking Eddie, hope your shoulder is doing better.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Has anyone heard from Eddie today?

    ReplyDelete
  43. As much as "I love me some Me" (thanks for the quote T.O.) Come on guys this is getting a little silly. Let's talk about the teams and matchups. Eddie

    ReplyDelete
  44. Anybody up to taking Eddie on in an "Underhand Serving" match in the play-offs

    ReplyDelete
  45. Eddie has developed a pretty good kick serve using his feet.

    ReplyDelete
  46. when do the flights come out for the QT tourny??

    ReplyDelete
  47. good question, they will probably go out to the captains of those teams before they are posted, so if anyone of you get one feel free to post it forward it to me so I can make my party plans.

I should be able to come and watch a little at least for the sunday matches.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Happy Birthday Eddie

    ReplyDelete
  49. Did Adam Blumberg complete his self-rating application accurately?

    ReplyDelete
  50. Have you seen Adam play? He just isn't very good. He has 3 pretty bad losses to average 4.0 players in singles already this season.

    ReplyDelete
  51. His talent level is meaningless. The question is "did he complete his self-rating application honestly?"

You can go 0-10 and still be DQ'd for lying on during the self-rating process.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Dear Adam,

Turn off the the computer now and try to get some sleep. I know you must be tired from last weekend. Call me when you get time from signing your pictures and autographs.

    Love,

    Mom

    ReplyDelete
  53. Adam is no Eddie! Can Eddie come out and play this weekend. Happy birthday Eddie.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Eddie needs to spend time with the 3.5 players. They think they are Eddie all over again. Teach them some P.R. please.

    ReplyDelete
  55. P.S.

    Adam,

I deleted all the post you had written over the past weeks about Steven and/or Keith and Steven kinda sucking. you'll have have to re-do them next week when you bring me some more soup.

    Hugs and kisses,

    Mom

  56. I'm hearing whispers of some protests being prepared. The playoffs should be very interesting.

    ReplyDelete
  57. sssssshhhhhhhh......it will be more fun as a surprise

    ReplyDelete
  58. protest about what??

    ReplyDelete
  59. Bring your Global Warming hat and PETA canvas flip-flops.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Carey and PETA don't mesh very well. See 3.5 stuff.

    ReplyDelete
  61. People for the Eating of Tasty Animals?

Who wouldn't be for all that?

    ReplyDelete
  62. Blue Flight
    1. Lifetime/Eddie Hill
    2. LB Houston/David Jones
    3. Brookhaven/Cliff Helterbran .

    Red Flight
    1. Garland/Steve Brueckner
    2. LB Houston/Mickey Spagnola
    3.T Bar M/Brian Colao

    ReplyDelete
  63. I like Garland and LB

    ReplyDelete
  64. I was planning on posting something but I will do it later this week, probably Thu/Fri. I thought I had distinct picks but I really think any of these 6 teams have a shot. TBar is mystery to me, they have some strong results here and there but they were in flight A so who knows. somehow I see team Eddie winning the other flight because of Dillender's DQ, otherwise I would go with LBH. BH could work if Boccra and Heltbrann play singles but not sure they have a for sure doubles team that could grab another line no matter what. I like Garland as well, can't believe i just said that but if LBH puts out their best 8 they should win but not sure they have their best available. Is Donald Allen healthy? Is Sierp ready to go and win for Garland, so many factors. Crazy that you play your flight though and then onto the DCC, I guess there is no reason to play it out but just seems a little anticlimatic. How do they decide who goes to the Lakes/Spk flight, I guess total number of wins in your flight.

    ReplyDelete
  65. This is to Cary Bazan aka Lucky Thunder.

Do I know you? Well, neway, it's been a while since I've played 3.5 team league. All I remember is having alot of fun, on both Garland's 3.5 and 4.0 leagues. I remember being offered to go to another team who scouted me out, and made promises that I would make it to sectionals. I thought about it really hard, but only to realise that I had a good team in Steve Brueckner that made me feel apart and appreciated.

Garland was a a good to me, and still is. I go out there on Wed. nights from time to time to hit with the teams. These guys are probably the nicest guys I have met since I moved here to the Metroplex. I've met Zack and Glenn recently, and they are also good fellows. Grant, they are good, but they are also playing tennis like everyone else is, FAIRLY. Do I think they will be bumped up? Absolutely. I got bumped seconds after the season ended, and even during the season.

But yea, thanx Thunder for the Compliment.

And Vijay is the Federer of 4.0! lol

  66. oops. srry about the multiple posts

    ReplyDelete
  67. Jermaine,

No you don't me but I have seen you play. You played Art Reyes on the first 4.0 team I ever had. I was amazed at your level of play, you are insanely quick and have some great strokes. After that match Art wanted to quit tennis, out of curiosity I checked your record after that match and noticed you played 3.5 so I always keep you in mind as an all time great ringer. That's a compliment, I wasn't even a ringer when I played 3.0 for a season.

    ReplyDelete
  68. What is Eddie thinking today.
