3.5 update

Flight A
No big shockers the top three continued to win. Canyon Creek will finally get a test v. Garland two weeks from now so that might get interesting but I don't think they are quite good enough yet to play with the big two in this flight.

Flight B
Stonebridge and Canyon Creek remain at the top as Kayser's team falls to Gleneagles but Kayser did sign up Zach Stein so they look to jump back towards the top. This flight is very tough, 5 quality teams and I am not sure anyone can stay undefeated and if someone does watch out because they will have been tested already. So far Stonebridge is looking to be that team with some solid new additions.

Flight C
OC stays undefeated along with BHaven but the big team to fall was Lifetime in a close match with Prather's group taken them out and personally taking out Jonathan Marcus. The race still continues amongst these four good teams. Next match pits OC v. Brookhaven, should be good stuff.

  1. Great competition and very close. We won in a real nail biter. DP

  2. 5/17 has three great matches:

    Stonebridge (4-0) vs Canyon Creek/Jolly (4-0)

    Garland (4-0) vs Canyon Creek/Carmen (4-0)

Oak Creek (4-0) vs Brookhaven (4-0)

Three matches all with undefeated teams and all with playoff implications!

Which teams will roll and which will fall!

  3. Congratulations to David Prather for his big win against that SOB Marcus.

David is always a gentleman and good sport _ win or lose.

    GO OAKRIDGE!!!

  4. Look here, call me whatever name you choose to call me. I could care less.

But show some respect by leaving my mother out of this. How would YOU feel if I called your mother out of her name and referred to her as a Bitch.

And others wonder why I chose not to play for Oakridge.

  5. 5/17 Matches should be interesting.

    I predict
    1) CC/Jolly 3-2
    2) Garland 4-1
    3) OC 4-1

  6. FLIGHT A
The Garland Gangsters have no real incentive to play hard since they won in the fall. Sure they are a little shady but they are still the best 3.5 team in Dallas and should win 1st place in this flight. High Point and Canyon Creek will almost certainly grap slots in the QT.

    FLIGHT B
Four strong teams all have a chance but Stonebridge & Canyon Creek/Jolly look the best. The 5/17 match between those two may very well determine which team wins flight B. Cary was right about Canyon Creek/Jolly _ they are playing well as he predicted and Stonebridge is much improved over last year.

    FLIGHT C
This is the toughest flight with three outstanding teams in Oak Creek, Oakridge and Life Time. All three of these teams look very comparable. Brookhaven is strong as well but not as good as the Big Three _ especially in singles. Oak Creek vs Brookhaven will be an intersting match. But the next big match will be June 7 when Oak Creek takes on Life Time. Right now it looks like Oak Creek will win Flight C while Life Time and Oakridge win spots in the QT.

  7. TOP FIVE TEAMS
    1. Garland
    2. Oak Creek
    3. Oakridge
    4. Life Time
    5. Stonebridge or Canyon Creek/Jolly or High Point

Three of the top 4 teams are all in Flight C due to a secretive and very flawed DTA seeding process.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Actually Brookhaven got hurt the worst by the ridiculous seeding of teams. In Flight B, Brookhaven would be battling for ist place. In Flight A they would likely grap 3rd and a spot in the QT.

But in Flight C they will finish behind Oak Creek, Oakridge and Life Time. They will be the best 3.5 team in Dallas which does not make the playoffs and probably stronger than a few of the teams that make the QT.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Brookhaven is undefeated and they do not get listed in the top 5 teams? Oh well, they get their chance to make a statement in the next match.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Jonathan, how do you even know that someone from Oakridge called you a "sob" anyway? There are plenty of guys out there that talk like that on a regular basis and not to put blame on any particular person, but read the blog and see. That had nothing to do with why you chose not to play with us anyway; you know most of our guys and no one would talk like that, as far as I know, so just quit spouting off. DP

  11. Marcus,
The issue is keeping your promises and not going back on your word. Your mother probably tried to teach you that but you were not listening.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Cary,
Next year please volunteer to help the DTA properly seed 3.5 teams. You know the teams and players better than anyone. And lord knows they really need help.

    ReplyDelete
  13. I would love to and I think others could do it as well as long as like me they did not have a rooting interest in the level. It would be like the NCAA tourney bracket, sign me up, sounds like fun.

But seriously Flight C or whichever one has BH, OC, etc is insane there is no way they should all have to play each other.

The same thing has happened in Flight D in our 4.0 league where the dominant team Springpark is squeaking by in each match because even the cellar dwellers are strong teams. Then one of the other flights has the 4.0 fall winner and a bunch of 3.5s and then one flight has Arnette and a team who just team defaulted a whole match???

    WTF!!!

    ReplyDelete
  14. Let me think - the statistical results of the fall playoffs were 1) Garland so they get in flight A, 2) Greenhill so they get in flight B, 3) Oak Creek so they get in flight C, 4) High Point so they get in flight A. 5) Stonebridge so they get in flight B, 6) Oak Ridge so they get in flight C. The rest of the teams had records, so they probably got stack ranked and put in the appropriate flights (A, B or C). The DTA does not know who will or will not be playing on a team. Also Lucky Thunder does a wonderful job for this blog, but he is not perfect. If he was perfect, he would make millions on the stock market. No one can predict the future. This in NOT rocket science. BK - GH

    ReplyDelete
  15. Not arguing just my opinion . . .The fall is often not a good predictor of spring results. A seeding COMMITTEE should consider last spring's results as well as Senior results and probably tournaments.

It is currently just a clerk-driven process without any intelligence added.

And why is it a secret? They don't tell us which teams are seeded and why. Also, non-seeded teams should be put in flights by random draw. I'll bet that's not happening.

Why not have a more transparent process which is properly documented and explained to everyone? Not just one clerk deciding where all teams should go.

    ReplyDelete
  16. No disrespect intended for Brookhaven. They just have not faced a strong team yet.

If they beat Oak Creek everyone will take notice and they will definitely move into the TOP FIVE.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Cary,

Why aren't you putting your view of rankings out?

    ReplyDelete
  18. I actually have "work" to do today :(...and trying to pick up the pieces of my own tennis team takes time. Mid season rankings don't mean much to me though. Maybe as we get closer to the playoffs.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Yes,
For Cary's sake lets not look at the preseason predictions.

Some good teams may miss the play-offs but the Cream will rise to the top.

    Cary,
Lifetime's Lefty Brian "BMO" Morrison has challenged me to a Blog challenge match that I have accepted for this Saturday at Lifetime.
You may want to add that to your list.
I'll get you a match report, give people something to look at during the off week.

  21. I like it I will put you all up mid week so we can get some thoughts. My early prediction is Marc in straights but it will be close both of you can get a little wild.

I might be up for a challenge this weekend. Sisk you out there???

  22. I want to see a re-match between Prather and Marcus. Both of these guys are fired up and it should be fun. Although Prather will still win but it will be in three sets.

    Good always wins over evil.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Blog Challenger...

Marc over Brian in 2 sets. 6-3, 6-2. Marc has too much fire power. What a lot of people have not seen is Marc's improved control on his backhand. You just can't pick on his backhand anymore. Both sides are pretty solid but the forehand is still more dangerous. If Marc had aspirations of playing tournaments and being ranked he could be in the top 10. I guess that is why he is going to be bumped up to 4.0 mid year or year-end.

It will be a good measuring stick for Brian.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Jonathan,

I did not know you were so sensitive. You are a good player and you should let your game speak for it self. You just tell everyone how good you are and how you are going to beat everyone. You may not even know you are doing this but your personality just comes off as over powering.

    Humility is good sometimes.

  25. I'll play Jonathan again and I'll play Eddie Hill. I like to play tennis. DP

  26. Mr. Anonymous –

Having a re-match between David Prather and Jonathan Marcus sounds like a fun event! I’m willing to sponsor the event @ Brookhaven (maybe on a Friday night). The match could be played on clay, outdoor or indoor (covered or climate control). We could have a big party with the winner taking home a prize.

David & Jonathan – Please let me know your thoughts about having a re-match.

    Best regards,

    John

    ReplyDelete
  27. Right above your post you already saw my answer. I'd be happy to play. DP

  28. To Cary from Big John:

    Me/Corey vs. you/Jeromi

2:30 Saturday at Garland Tennis Center

    $100 to the winning team.

    Are you in?

    ReplyDelete
  29. John,
I accept. Just let me know when and where.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Ok, great! We have a re-match between David Prather and Jonathan Marcus. The re-match will be held at Brookhaven. All we need to do is determine the type of court and a date.

David and Jonathan – Please let me know what type of court (Clay, outdoor, indoor (covered or climate controlled)) your would like to play on and a few dates on your availability.

    ReplyDelete
  31. They should play indoors so there are no excuses. (wind, sun, ect.)

    ReplyDelete
  32. Big John,

Might be able to make it but my wife works Sunday so we are having her 1st mom's day celebration on Saturday and she has a USTA league match. So let me see if I can work around that. If not is Sunday possible. If we do Sat earlier might be better. I hope we can work it out, looks like good weather, if not I will have to go double bagel eddie or Doug Smith at Lifetime since I do love the MILFs there. :)

    ReplyDelete
  33. John Kraemer, I am available most Fri. and I prefer to play either in full daylight or after it's completely dark. I have only played on clay a couple of times over 20 years ago. I like the outside over the inside, but I'll consider whatever. Thanks for all the hype, it sounds like it'll be fun. David Prather ( DP )

  34. is there going to be coaching allowed??? I might sign up for that or just a referee or just a rowdy fan.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Cary -- are you bitter that you're not in Flight A with us?

    Steven Brouer

    ReplyDelete
  36. Yes, I think coaching should be allowed for the big re-match between David Prather and Jonathan Marcus. We’ll also have an independent chair umpire for the match.

    ReplyDelete
  37. So Mr. anonymous as_ ho_e, if you believe it and want to say it why don't you post who you are. I admit J.M.
really can act rude and he's quite the bragger, but to call someone an "sob" and just laugh with no posting of who you are is quite chicken s_it. You know who I am, so what have you got to say to me?

  41. Hey Anonymous your remarks are rude and uncalled for. this tennis blog seems to be full of people like you that hide behind the Anonymous tag. Jonathan may not be the best liked player but the Oak Ridge Team respects him as a good player and person. So please show him some respect. When our team was being bashed on this blog last year he said we were a bunch of good guys.So now we are coming to his defense. People like you have no GUTS to sign your name.

  42. Way to go Ed! You are right.

  43. Got your message on my phone just now John. I will check on Sunday at noon but it looks like that will work out. Let me check in with Jeromi as well. Can we play at HP, I don't have my flack jacket for tennis yet? Also that is 60 miles round trip for my on a Sunday. Allen HS would be great but I will settle for HP.

    ReplyDelete
  44. John K, for the Prather & Marcus match, I think you should get the court in side the barn where the fans can see. I don't know the court number but we can see from the second floor right above the bathrooms. Just an idea. I am there!

  46. John,
This Saturday afternoon will work for me. Anytime after 3:30PM.

Dave Prather, for the way everything went down, I apologize. I could have handled it better, and in retrospect, I wish I would have. My intentions is hopefully by apologizing in this open forum, this whole business and mess that I caused can be put behind us.

And for those that think I "brag" alot, that is not how I am on the tennis court. This "medium" is just "trash-talking". Most people that have played me will tell you that I never "brag" in the beginning of the match, during the match or after the match. I do everything that I can to be as cordial and respectful of the game as possible.

  49. STRAIGHT SETS??? You have GOT to be kidding me!!! I don't see THAT happening.

If I dint have a brain, I think my stroke is there and I have 4.0 play. Its just when I involve my brain, that's when I screw up. We will make sure to blog the results. 2 - 3 full sets.

From the 4.0 Blog, A challenge ladder sure seems like a good idea.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Big John/Corey vs. Lucky Thunder /Jeromi match sounds more intriguing because of the strategy involved with a 3.5 & 4.5 versus 2 4.0's. Will the 3.5 only play the net (alley only)? Will the 4.5 ever see the ball? Will the 3.5 win his serve?

    ReplyDelete
  51. If you knew John and I, you would already know the answer to those questions. We have played together approximately 200 times, including a 4.0 tournament victory a couple of years ago.

    ReplyDelete
  52. No offense Brian I think you all are about even and trust Marc has brain problems as well. The one advantage maybe your lefty forehand into his weaker backhand. Marc has a way of dictating points well in singles and I think that might be the difference. I don't think it would be a huge upset if you won though.

    Our match
Much like mixed doubles we will pick on the girl. :) Seriously there is something to be said about picking on the weaker player but that is just one part of a larger doubles strategy. If the point dictates to attack Corey I don't care what his level is, if John leaves up a sitter Corey is getting crushed I don't care what his rating is but John will get plenty of my funky stuff this weekend. That sounds wrong doesn't it???

    ReplyDelete
  53. Great! so now I see all the crap has been spewed (above), and now I have to sub in for big John! Well, if there are any sitters, don't hurt ME - I didn't say I would slam them at Corey, that was Thunder. Should be fun stuff though, looking forward to it!

  55. For you voters out there against me...for the record, we have very similar scores against 2 of the people that we played against: similar score against Marc Anderson, and the exact same score against "Rey".

That's aight. I love and relish the underdog status. Get's my heart racing.

You voters, it's not too late to change your vote.
