Message from USTA Texas

2008 Early Season Ratings--7/15/08 7:29 PM

The 2008 Early Season ratings will be available Wednesday afternoon, July 16. We apologize for the delay, but we have been instructed by the national office that they are double-checking some information.

We are looking at "dirty" Garland and "evil" Springpark as well as "cheating pros" Royal Oaks.

*********
For whatever reason that last sentence isn't on the site anymore but I swear it was there before when I looked. Totally sucks I was going to watch the all-star game tonight and needed something to do while it was on since baseball is so damn boring.

Thursday night tennis:
Anyone looking to get some last minute warm-up for the DCC or get out some stress for losing in the QT come join me and a few others at Frisco HS at 6:30 PM this Thursday. If you can come later should be OK, there will be players there till late. RSVP to me if you think you are coming.

  1. This translates to... we don't want some Dallas 3.5 whiners complaing about whether they got bumped and they can't call us if we release it after we leave.

You missed the second half of the sentence that said the Garland Cheaters were all being bumped to 5.5.

  2. I know I am not a genius, but where is it 7:29pm currently. I think this blog was a fake. Mitch probably sent it out.

  3. I don't know about the time stamp, but that information is on the USTA Texas Section website.

  4. Real surprise on the new ratings, a Raymond Fadder showed up as 3.5 and is on the Garland Team. Why does that name sound familiar

    ReplyDelete
  5. there is some kind of computer glich and they are not sure if the rating will be out today???

    ReplyDelete
  6. Yeah... I heard the Garland boys are making them institute a 7.5 and maybe even an 8.0 NTRP.

    ReplyDelete
  7. I don't think it is a computer issue. If they do it like last year they will simply post a PDF file that contains the names of ONLY those people who have a rating change. So the delay must be in coming up with or double checking the validity of the list.

    ReplyDelete
  8. No. I spoke with Jane. It is a computer clich. Some people names are not showing up, only their USTA number. They are trying to figure out how to get the names back.

    ReplyDelete
  9. honestly they should not publish the ESR's until Dallas is done with their playoffs, so hold off 1 week would not hurt anyone. This would also be beneficials because we all know that the Big guns will be out playing to win all together for the first time this season.
The 3-4 matches need to be included because many of them will be matches between top benchmark players and highly touted self-rates.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Not sure that would make a difference. I agree that The City Playoffs is where some players will be tested, but the Early Season Ratings don't really mean much. So what if they hold off a week and more players get bumped mid-season, it won't affect the playoffs.

I personally think Early Season ratings should be done away with all together. This just gives players a heads up.

    ReplyDelete
  11. yep not sure why we have the esr's since some sections has done away with them altogether. Maybe those $5 appeals from Garland really add up to some good revenue. :)

I do think they could wait till our championships are over, that might sound as if all should revolve around us but it won't benefit us and it would mix up the pot a little bit. as the prev. poster noted it either gives someone a heads up to "work" on their rating for next Spring or if they hadn't been unveiled till the DCC they are still allowed to play another season at their self rate and play in the fall at a lower rating and here in Dallas the fall affects the Spring so think it is something worth looking at.

    ReplyDelete
  12. USTA Texas Section has just updated it's website. They are saying it will be tomorrow afternoon before the ESRs are released.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Told ya there was a bigger problem.

    ReplyDelete
  14. yep looks like Garland has really messed things up:

"The 2008 Early Season ratings will be available Thursday afternoon, July 17. We apologize for the continued delay, but we have been notified by TennisLink that they are still double-checking some information."

  15. I think Garland is responsible for the dwindling squirrel population, global warming and also the extinction of the dodo bird many years ago.

    ReplyDelete
  16. There are plenty of dodo birds on this blog everyday.

  17. I wouldn't mind seeing a poll on which team will have the most players bumped up. That should be a good barometer of which teams are sandbagging the most.
I would expect 4.5 Branch, 4.0 Somabut, 3.5 Garland, 4.0 Walters to be the frontrunners.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Glad to see Dallas has some trash talk about other teams like the Houston blog does. Only the Houston guys like to take personal attacks on individuals.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I think OC Branch, HP Somabut and Life Time Ferrell get the most. Garland Sisk has had pretty regular scores while Lifetime has put some whippings on people.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Stick around and there will be the obligatory personal attack on someone's game, their girth or just how they always cheat. Be patient and you will see personal attacks.

    ReplyDelete
  21. and the personal attacks may extend to your immediate family/wife!

    ReplyDelete
  22. Glad to hear Houstonians are not the only SERIOUS leaguers.

    ReplyDelete
  23. The following comment comes from an anonymous under the Houston City Playoffs and equates too the fact that captains in Dallas are learning how to hide their ringers much better than before:

"We have some very good teams and a lot of our captains are starting to learn how to recruit and compile teams that can compete at the state and national levels."

My posting is not a slam to finding ringers and playing them, because honestly, if you dont have them you will not make it through sectionals to get to nationals. Kudos to Dallas!!!

Breaking News!!! Starting in 2009, 3.5 league sectionals will be at the level of a Tier IV professional event, 4.0 will be at Tier III, and so on and so on.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Thanks for the poll, Cary.

    ReplyDelete
  25. no problem corey just trying to keep ya'll entertained until this weekend.

I just got off the court, Enrique beat me in 3 sets, he is tough player and will probably be a 4.0 as of tomorrow afternoon so that will make me feel a little better about losing another 3 setter.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Or maybe Cary Bazan will be on the list as a 3.5 come tomorrow.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I think there is a better chance of that happening and it should. Molina will be way over his head at 4.0.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I believe Enrique will do very well in 4.0. C'mon, he's the #1 ranked player in 3.5 right now.

I've played him, and he has a very strong game on both sides of the ball.

    Jonathan

    ReplyDelete
  29. Enrique is a good player. He won't be in over his head. Many 3.5 players move up to 4.0 and do very well, and then there is all the sudden a conspiracy about that

    ReplyDelete
  30. Jonathan,
What was the score when you played Molina... 1-1...Nuff said. He will be over his head.

    ReplyDelete
  31. that was one result, I could find one great result or bad result but it wouldn't define my playing ability.

I will say Jonathan has obviously improved a lot.

    ReplyDelete
  32. One might should look at a total body of work when determining how good/bad someone may be. I do not think one match is enough. We have all been beaten bad against similar compettion and beat someone bad of similar competition.

If someone is getting beat 0 & 1 regularly... then nobody would even be discussing them as someone who will likley be being moved up.

  33. Dutchover #1 3.5 + one year later = #1 4.0

Please Solve and show your work.

  34. Anyone going to Austin for the Austin Labor Day Tourny? I need a partner for mens 3.5 doubles.

  38. Thanks Marc,

Okay, LTF 3.5 might win the sandbag record.

Our number is 10 from what I could tell, (with a false positive on 1 for sure)

  39. nice to see TTA came to their senses and put Blumberg back to 4.5
Molina, Morrison, Sechen, Gonzales all got bumped to 5.0, surprised Branch survived even though he once again went undefeated.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I also have to say I am disgusted to see the cheat from SA make it back down to 4.5 after the crap he pulled last year, tanking matches and making a team full of new rated 5.0 players and named it "Danny 4.5"

    ReplyDelete
  44. Four of Garland's 3.5ers are moving on up. We shall see in the fall how big a ringers they truly are then.

    ReplyDelete
  45. oops - missed a couple. SIX of Garlands 3.5 team went to 4.0 - almost their whole starting lineup.

  46. Not many Somabut players get bumped?? Maybe they are not super after all.

  47. tank/sandbagger alert:

new 3.5: Steve Brueckner of Garland

    still at 3.5 John Sisk

  50. John Sisk??? How can you say that? He lost all of his spring league matches. Why would he get moved up?

    ReplyDelete
  51. somabut lost 7, how is that not alot I believe they won the 4.0 sandbagger award and someone Jean Nguyen and Tim Newman stayed at 4.0 as well as Kirby Martin so they should have 10 bumped. the great forehand of wonder Carlquist is still 4.0 as well.

    ReplyDelete
  52. By the end of the year, some of these guys will go ahead and get the bump and others will return.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Sisk is sandbagging for year 2010. Its obvious.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Go Garland 3.5 2010!!! We are going to take it all!!! WATCH out people!

    ReplyDelete
  55. that is why I said "tank alert" John is supposedly amazing but somehow he has some losses when his team has an auto bid to the DCC. Hmmm. Brueckner tanked so obviously in the fall and then just sat out this season to make sure those results stuck. Bender did much the same.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Do any of these "tankers" ever get tired of playing crappy players? I really do not know any of those guys so I cannot say if these guys tanked. Yet, if they did, do they ever get tired of beating up on weak players? Is Nationals that great of an experience?

    ReplyDelete
  57. I don't know. I dunked on a lot of kids in pre school yesterday. Those kids have NOTHING on my moves!

    ReplyDelete
  58. We will ALL find out if they start winning all the sudden against stronger players in the playoffs, but yet lose to weaker players in regular season.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Yeah, but if they win in the playoffs and lose in regular season, the end of they year computer will probably get them.

Sisk has no reason to tank. His team has a legitimate chance to go to Nationals. A tanked match at sectionals would be the difference between a trip to Nationals and another weekend in Garland. I can't imagine he is tanking.

    ReplyDelete
  78. Look at the Houston blog. Four days after the playoffs, the 2nd place team conveniently decides they cannot go to Sectionals. In essence, they fu**ed Houston out of 2 teams at Sectionals and the spot will most likely go to another city.

    ReplyDelete
  79. Let's start lobbying. Dallas get's 3 teams.

  80. minions,

so i love that Marc hacked thru firewalls to get some good info. Marc gets raise for his work today.

    LTF-89 players bumped?
    Garland: 5-7?

    4.0
    HP
    Lakes

    4.5
    Royal Oaks
any other 4.5 teams lose anyone???

    ReplyDelete
  81. i did read that on the Houston site, it is very unfortunate but I like the idea of three dallas but it won't happen

    ReplyDelete
  82. I am so glad to see Prather got bumped up. Now he can stop complaining about all the 3.5 sandbaggers. ut oh. now that means he will be constantly complaining about 4.0 supposed sandbaggers. Damn it. Can we send him back to 3.5?

    ReplyDelete
  83. The spot will most likely go to Austin or San Antonio, if they decline then Fort worth or Dallas may get another team.

    ReplyDelete
  84. For those of us that do not want to go to the Dirty Houston Blog,
can you give us the short version of why their wild team punked out?

    ReplyDelete
  85. Team roster is small, injuries, and other committments. If you play league and are good, then you should be able to play it through til the end. Don't punk out midway.

    ReplyDelete
  86. Mid year ratings have been published.

    ReplyDelete
  87. 11 LTF players bumped. I missed Scott Bonneau

    ReplyDelete
  88. Ok BMO you all have to go to Nats now. I lost 8 a year ago and I thought that was crazy but 11, OMG. I am getting on the LTF bandwagon now. Can I get a T Shirt or something to wear to the matches this weekend??

    ReplyDelete
  89. I have an observation about these bump ups- you 3.5 and 4.0 people are crazy. The whole Dallas 4.5 league consisting of 17 teams has 9bump ups with 3 coming from 1 team alone. That makes for a very fair league I would say. You 3.5 and 4.0 people take the sandbagging to a whole new level. If the blog is correct, some teams have close to the same amount as the whole 4.5 team. I'd be angry too. I guess at 3.5 and 4.0 you really have to live by the motto- if you ain't cheatin' you ain't trying.

    ReplyDelete
  90. Actually, our motto is "If you ain't cheating... you are only cheating yourself."

    ReplyDelete
  91. OC BL--

My wife would disagree with that statement. The former President might not... but I can tell you my wife would.

    ReplyDelete
  92. racer you are pretty much spot on. the lower the level more tougher it is to regulate. There is not as many playing guidelines as there are at the higher levels. I think 4.0 will be cleaned up a lot in the near future since college records are much more easy to find. I had a chance to see 2.5 nats before in CA when my wife played. That was funny to see the champs there, I saw women and men with some fairly good games.

I think more 5.0 and 5.5 leagues could help because 3.5 is like the last frontier where you can grab guys off thet street and put together a solid team but at 4.0 and 4.5 there are some players with big games that can make a weekend hacker look rather awful.

I like Vik's note about fresh meat, I feel the same way about the new 4.0s. Finally I am not the lowest rated 4.0 in the league.

    ReplyDelete
  93. There are so many more players in 3.5 and 4.0 that you can have a very wide range of players. There can be some very bad tennis in 3.5 On the other hand, there can be some very good tennis as well. Obviously, the very good teams have guys out of level. If you go to the play-offs this weekend, you will see some 3.5 players that do not look too terribly different than some high level 4.0 to lower level 4.5. You will not see muany players that look like what I think of 3.5 players.

    ReplyDelete
  94. Lifetime should win some appeals back to 3.5... ie. Gary Beck??

Seems like they were trying to send a message.

    ReplyDelete
  95. 4.0 Sandbagger Update:

The Lakes have 5 players who where ESR bumps:

    The Lakes(5)

    R. Balan
    R. Holt
    N. Johnson
    M. Runda
    R. Valtierra

That puts them one behind HP:

    HP(6)

    A. Blumberg
    S. Brouer
    D. Keller
    H. Nguyen
    J. Pickett
    K. Robinson

Not sure why HP is catching all the grief? The Lakes have only one less bump up than HP and almost twice as many as Springpark.

Sounds like Lifetime would have had the same number as Springpark is Eddie hadn't got hurt. According to him he was at 5-5 in the third set with Forrest, one of his two bump ups.

    ReplyDelete
  96. I disagree with the previous posting.

You can't blame lakes for sandbagging because all their players except Runda were benchmark 4.0 players on the system for several years in a row, not that they had an option to be rated 4.5 at the beginning of the season.

What the re-rating means is those guys played at a 4.5 level this season - I don't think that's a crime.

Let's just pick on those self rates and those people who disappeared from the system for a few years, then come back in with a lower ratings.

    ReplyDelete
  97. AGREED - thank you for injecting COMMON SENSE into this discussion. If someone is computer rated - gripe at the computer - not the player....

    ReplyDelete
  98. I had 12 guys bumped up to 4.0 off of my 3.5 team last year.

I had 10 guys bumped up to 4.5 off of my 4.0 team last year.

They were all well deserved and all previously computer rated.

    ReplyDelete
  99. Lifetime fitness is sending a message. And that message is, watch out! you beat us and ur proly going to get bumped.

    ReplyDelete
  100. Jonathan,

Thanks for your support. As for the person that said "I will be over my head" hit me up on the challenge ladder. The harder the ball the better I do.

I had a great time play against Cary although I was very tense playing a "blog super star".

Thanks for play with me Cary.

All that matters is that you have fun when we play tennis no matter what level.

    Enrique Molina

    ReplyDelete
  101. Dude, I am so overrated, how will I ever compete in the 4.5's?

Will you guys still be my friends?

I thought fat was a medical pass.

    ---Mitch.

    ReplyDelete
  102. The computer rated folks are not the issue at all; its all about the unknown folks that self-rate. Lakes and HP both had folks bumped that have been playing for awhile and in reality playing 4.5 as a 4.0 so they arent dodging the system they are looking to improve and be bumped up or bumped back up. Those that are lying in wait playing only 4.0 after self-rating and tearing it up creates the frustration and unbalanced feel.

    rockettman

    ReplyDelete
  103. It always amazes me how many people think that a 3.5 or even 4.0 players are cookie cutter players. Most do not realize there are actually entry level 3.5 & top out 3.5 & etc, but both & all between are the same markings a 3.5. The #1 3.5 player in Texas is a 3.5 player & the 300th 3.5 player in Texas is a 3.5 player, but I think that the #1 could beat the #300 in straight sets & maybe 0 & 0. Does that make the #1 player a 4.0 & the #300 a 3.0? Also we all know that singles is an entirely different game. The top 3.5 or 4.0 player is not always a good doubles player & vs, yet they both have the same rating.

    ReplyDelete
  104. I wish the USTA would let people see their Dynamic NTPR

Like you could see the you are a 3.86
    or a 4.65,

That would eliminate all of the mystery of the DQ's and strikes and let us police ourselves.

People say that is would encourage tanking and score management but that is happening already,
the cheaters will cheat no matter what, might as well keep tabs on them,

    ReplyDelete
  105. I think everyone realizes that all 3.5s are not created equal. The issue is that the some of the ones playing this weekend are able to beat all but a few this weekend really bad. THe distrubing thisng is their scores against top players are similar to those against bbottom level players.

Go watch some of the matches this weekend and then report on whether there may be a few out of level players.

    ReplyDelete
  106. Man, if only the USTA raters had seen the ass whipping Brouer and Robinson took from Gene and Mitch, they would've stayed at 4.0. Prediction: High Point chokes, led by aforementioned duo.
