Final day of DCC

So a great day of tennis yesterday still has a lot up in the air in some of the divisions.

3.5
Garland and High Pt are tied at the top with Oak Creek and Lifetime trying to claw their past them. Two sets of matches today. One is underway now and will go a long way to determining the two sectional spots.

Someone mentioned Flora and Slemon are in DQ limbo and I have to agree. They are probably playing one another right now and my guess would be the winner of that match gets yet another strike. It doesn't really hurt Slemon to win big since his team is out of it and Flora can't let off the gas either because Garland can't afford a 2nd loss and he is their lone superstar left although Rockjock is winning well in dubs this weekend.

The Lifetime/Garland match was curious since Ferrell decided to throw Beck to the wolves and take one for the team but OMG Flora wasn't there and he was playing Key who he lost to in straight sets. If LTF doesn't advance that has to be a decision they will think about for awhile. I have to think there was someone else on the roster who could have beaten Key in singles.

4.0
High Point and Greenhill play one another after both beating TBar M yesterday. I have a feeling this match might be closer than expected but it depends on the lineup. If John can get out his best 8 which would include Durand, Windham/Ryan, Contreras, Englsebard and Sline and take your pick at throwing in the last two I think they could give High Point problems.

The High Point doubles has looked vulenarable, I really expected the pairings of Newman/Voss and Robinson/Brouer to drop the hammer but they haven't quite dominated. Should be a great match.

Springpark v. Lakes could be interesting, I know my Lakes coughed up a big one yesterday but they have the guys to hang with Springpark and Jim is managing playing time and that might cost him a close one but most likely Springpark will advance.

5p Final: I think Jim put it best, this will not be a tankfest but the best 16 players will probably not be on the court and if I were them I wouldn't put them out either. This is a good time to put out the bench players and have them prove themselves for playing time at sectionals. I would be shocked to see McGowan and Davis on the court although they have managed their scores well.

4.5
All but sealed for Royal Oaks and OC/Branch. I don't see these teams going down and losing their top two spots.

5.0
T Bar won and is advancing to sectionals, congrats guys!

169 comments:

  1. 3.5 LTF 5-0 over OC. Garland 4-1 over Gleneagles to finish at 3-1 and all but clinch one of the top two spots.

Mudsam might also be worth talking about being in jeopardy at the end of today as he beat OC BL rather soundly, that is two matches in a row he beat guys that were mid season 4.0 bumps ups in less than the figured upon 3 and 3 safe zone.

Flora also dropped another lopsided results 1 and 0 on Gobeli of GECC. I don't know how he can survive this weekend. If he does than Garland has some Irish luck or something.

  2. I do think emptying the bench is ranking as a team. However, I think that is a much better option than sending your better players out and telling them to lose. And for the record I have no problem with it as long as your team doesn't view it as a slight to them that you're avoiding someone. If you are good enough to be able to manipulate your place and get a better result more power to you. Good luck to everyone.

    ReplyDelete
  3. HP Somabut just got the first bid to sectionals by whooping Greenhill 5-0. I good sweep over a good team. The other match has yet to be posted so I am guessing it is a close one.

Carlquist/Deviney had a solid result over the GH ringer at line 1 dubs. Way to save that rep Chad.

Nguyen/Nguyen took care of line 2 and Brouer/Robinson stepped up and closed out line 3.

Keller had a tight one at singles but icepick rolled over Durand showing his new 4.5 rating off very nicely.

Congrats guys on making it to sectionals....again.

I am planning on coming by to watch the 5p match unless I get comfy on this couch. Wife at work, A/C, Dvds, baby=not sure I will make it.

Still waiting on the Lakes/SP, wow what if the my Lakes catapulted over LTF and SP, Mr. Hill might have a heart attack.

    ReplyDelete
  4. just saw SP thru to final. looks like McGowan retired after the match was decided. Smart move there but in the Gene Davis match, I have to think that is strike 2 for him on the season. So I have to think he won't be in the 5p match, or will he?

there should be good enough singles talent at sectionals that gene can play relaxed and win out but who knows. He took out Runda like he was a 3.5er

    ReplyDelete
  5. that gene davis match against eddie needs to have the name changed. blatant cheating. the captain should be punished for that.

    ReplyDelete
  6. Gleneagles and Oak Creek have Garland's destiny in their hands. If these teams allow Lifetime and HP to walk out on the court at 3:00 and beat them 5-0 then Garland will be in 3rd.

Actually, Lifetime will take 1st by simply winning their match.

HP needs to beat Oak Creek 5-0 (just like Lifetime beat them this morning).

    ReplyDelete
  7. I saw the line-up and the SP captain put Gene's name in there. It is the USTA officials mistake. It will get corrected. No cheating by SP at all. Eddie

    ReplyDelete
  8. By the Way. HP vs SP. I think we are the only team that has played both this season. 2 tough 3-2 losses for us. That will be hard for me to sleep on. Both very good teams and good guys. I would give the advantage to SP with both teams at FULL strength. Gene is sick good and Mitch is better than anyone on HP. No shot at HP. Just the truth. That means SP just needs one line of doubles. they have 2 very strong teams. I hope we see these 2 teams battle it out in the Sectional finals if possible so we can see a FULL strength battle. We won't see that today. Eddie.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Thanks, Eddie, but I could have lost to a lot of people today, I was up and down.

I'm going to have to watch the restaurants I visit for the next two weeks, 3 days after food poisoning is not exactly the time to be playing singles in 98 degree heat.

I did freak out the guy by drinking beer though during the match, that made it fun.

    My legs hurt.

    Mitch.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Funny. Good luck later today and at sectionals. Eddie

    ReplyDelete
  11. I watched Mitch play this weekend. He would probably be lucky to play line 3 doubles for HP. He is highly overrated.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Corey:
What happened in the #2 Doubles match?
Seems like a little tank job, but maybe that is one of your better teams.

    Just curious.

    ReplyDelete
  13. 4.5 Update:
Branch won 5-0 over T-Bar, showed their might and they will be tough to beat at Sectionals.
royal Oaks defeated Village 3-2, I am curious on the #2 Doubles result which seems very suspicious. Gonzales is a superb player and I know Eckel (lefty) can play some tennis also, so a 1,3 result just comes off as a little weird.

    ReplyDelete
  14. 3.5 LTF wins 4-1. Takes 1st.
Oakcreek battled HP strong in the final match, and HP is out.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Lifetime Rocks !!!

    ReplyDelete
  16. Very nice win for LTF to close out strong. That ended up being the diff. in this round robin whereas HP had all 3-2 or 2-3 decisions and in a RR format you have to post a couple of big numbers if you don't go undefeated. For the ragging I did on Flores he was the one who came up strong and stopped HP from jumping up into the 2nd spot.

    AR,
I don't think RO tanked at all Fair/Young are Corey's arguably best dubs team and I think RO knew they were in so in their heads they had to already be settled into their evening plans. No shame in that, I look forward to RO making some noise in a couple of weeks. I like their team.

    ReplyDelete
  17. yeah I sqw their record, which are pretty impressive, but I saw Eckel had defeated Russ Johnson in doubles the previous day and with the way Gonzalez had been tearing thru people, it seemed iffy, but might change my opinion seein as how Young and Fair pretty stout players.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Flores' match was irrelevant. HP had to sweep and they lost a doubles line as well. HP is 3-1 and only loss was 3-2 and they are on the outside looking in.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Congratulations to Garland and Lifetime Fitness for advancing to the 3.5 Sectionals. We tried our absolute best and there were a lot of close matches decided by 3rd set tie-breaks, but in the end, we lost out to two better teams. There was a lot of damn good 3.5 tennis played out there this weekend.

Now go kick some ass in Sectionals and send a Dallas team to Nationals.

    Highpoint

    ReplyDelete
  20. After the LTF loss, HP needed to put a whooping on GECC and didn't do it. That line 3 loss against GECC is going to be rememebered for a long, long time.

Coming back Sunday afternoon to try to win just 4 lines against OC would have been easier pill to swallow with a 4-1 posting on GECC. Was there nothing left in the tank after the LTF match? I thought HP was actually the 2nd best team out there after GTC lost Zach the first day.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Actually, watching me this weekend, you're probably right.

Good thing we won the whole division and I got to post a "ret." just in time for state.

Uncle Mitch has some exercise to do.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Pat,

    we appreciate the kind words.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Who won, HP or SP?

    ReplyDelete
  24. SP won. or did HP lose it??

    ReplyDelete
  25. Nah, SP won 4-1. There were definite pride matches going on, even if it was 2nd stringers. Line one doubles didn't seem to be, weren't they the pair from HP that had won some tournies outside of Brouer and Robinson?

    ReplyDelete
  26. I think Voss/Newman won Tyler Major Zone. Two losses for them this weekend. Not much of a confidence booster for them heading to Sectionals.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I had a feeling this question would come up. My guys just outplayed them. Doug and Jim are my #1 team by far. The more questionable result was Walt and Slezak only winning 5 and 6. I'm going to assume it was just a bad style matchup since they handed Jim and Doug their only loss of the season easily yesterday. I was happy my team could do something positive this weekend by handing Gonzalez a loss. I seriously doubt they were tanking, I just don't think Henry is a doubles player. Plus, my team was highly motivated and, as Cary said, Royal Oaks had no reason to be.
BTW, Phat Bui is the best 4.5 singles player I've seen all season, and I've pretty much seen everybody.
Overall, my team ended up 0-3 but, as expected, we left everything on the court and made the other teams work to beat us. Had that T Bar match been 3-2, today's lineup would have been much different for us.

    ReplyDelete
  28. how is it that my best prediction work came at the 4.5 level and I had never seen any of them play.

Hmm. I think I am going to bet online on some euro soccer or some crap I know nothing about. What is that goofy horse racing where the jockeys ride in little carts behind the horses? I think that might be a solid betting idea.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Cary, you underestimated SP all year.

    ReplyDelete
  30. ... because 4.5 was obvious. Neither T Bar or Village could touch the top of the other Division. It was truly an A and B league this time around.

    ReplyDelete
  31. what happened to the Lakes?? They lost both matches.

    ReplyDelete
  32. It is pretty obvious that the best 3 4.0 teams in Dallas are Springpark, HP, and Lifetime. Lifetimes lost 2 times this year. Both 3-2 losses to SP and HP. That's what happened to the Lakes.

    ReplyDelete
  33. None of their "mysterious" newcomers (Kramer, Rabiega, Sloan) showed up, and their star players did not come through. They got their 4 wins from Runda, Holt, Balan and Zambrana. Few matches were close, but in a few they looked outmatched.

    ReplyDelete
  34. After the weekend, I was suspecting there might be some DQs. So far there is nothing but I feel by the end of the week we may see a few others. 4.0 looks pretty safe. There are some 4.5 that may have some concern; Gonzales could potentially get one. In 3.5 Tuorto, Mudsam, Flora and Slemon are all in the danger zone. You can drop only so many bagels & breadsticks before the computer will catch up to you.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I am not sure how Gene is not DQed.

The two captains that faced him this weekend are just too nice to not file a complaint.

    ReplyDelete
  36. There is no grounds for a complaint, trust me if I knew of one we would have filed one before we played them. He is a solid player, period. I think McGowan is the stronger of the two.

I wish springpark the best, they will need some luck and for Mcgowan, Davis and Rasor to go undfeated at sectionals.

I will do my best to see them play Freeman's team. sounds like a good one.

I would think if there was going to be Dqs it would be by EOD today right?

    ReplyDelete
  37. Well even if they DQ players it will not change any results since they are not run in the middle of the tournament. If they run numbers during the championships then yes their would match changes but now all it will do is kick players out of Sectionals.
Honestly they might as well hold off running the ratings until after Sectionals and not hinder any local team.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Mitch is a good player, but isn't even close to Gene.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Cary you are nuts. I love Mitch, but just ask Mitch who the better player is between him and Gene. Not even close. Gene has 2 games. His serious 100% game, and the one he shows to beat solid 4.0's 3-3. His serious game beats the top 4.0's 1-1 at best. Having played both of them I can tell you Gene is a lot better.

    ReplyDelete
  40. In fact, I will run around Sectionals naked for 5 minutes if Gene loses a set. It is not even close. Hell, if I knew he was going to bring his 100% game, I might make that same comment on him even dropping a game. He is that good. Hey Gene, don't drop a set on purpose just to see me make a fool of myself. Eddie.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I'm not quite ready to say that we can't hang with other flight of 4.5 seeing as Royal Oaks beat us 3-2 without me or Blake Mason playing and with all of their studs playing. I agree that the other flight is stronger but that's only because Branch is stronger than every other team by far.

I also have to disagree with Cary on the Mitch v. Gene debate. Gene probably gives Mitch private lessons during the week. Gene is the much more serious player with a better game.

    ReplyDelete
  42. If the bet were Mitch had to run around the court naked, Gene might drop a set

    ReplyDelete
  43. Yes, Gene is even better than Kern and Kern was ranked #1 at 4.0 last year.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Well yikes I had no idea i would spark a who is better Mitch or Gene debate. Mitch personally told me that he is 10x better than Gene.

I really don't know that is just a hunch I was going on, if it is true I am little worried about their chances because they need those two to be ringers that are untouchable if they plan on taking out Freeman.

And trust me I know about Gene's on/off switch he had to use it against Kyle and I. Once he found out we had swept singles and he and will were down a break and he started bringing his A game. We still almost got a 3rd set breaker, too bad it was my serve at 5-6.

I look forward to meeting and playing with Mitch as well. As long as he spots me a break or two as well.

    ReplyDelete
  45. SP will take down Houston. They will be sorry they waisted time and money on the trip to Dallas. Freeman had his run last year.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Cary, trust me. That match was close because he let it be that way. Mitch was kidding you with that comment on Gene. You never had a chance in that match I can promise you. I have never seen Kyle, but it don't matter. I have played with an Open level guy and he had nothing on what I saw the first 15 minutes vs Gene. The completeness of his game forces you to hit shots that you can't consistantly execute.

    ReplyDelete
  47. The problem is you are forced to go for those shots because if you just try to keep the ball in play he forces the action and puts balls away with precision. Cary you have no reason to be concerned about them at sectionals. Mitch is very good too.

    ReplyDelete
  48. I any ringer is more effective in singles because we were able to attack Will a lot and take chances on breaking him. Gene can only do so much when he is playing dubs.

I will say Kyle and I played a bit over our heads that day and if not for a few scrappy and lucky points the score might have been more lopsided.

I expect to see him and Mitch playing a lot of singles and it will be up to the Freeman and the others to find Rasor in the lineup and send their best doubles team to beat them because I don't think their other doubles teams are locks although solid.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Some one put it very well earlier - Gene 5.0, Mitch 4.5 (average)- they are not even close in their skill and shot execution.

    ReplyDelete
  50. i have been out, but who won the 4.0 tourney....i was the one blabbing that Gene,Mitch,Rasor would roll if they wanted to at 4.0...Did my prediction come true or is there a better team....no joke, i am too lazy to look and see who won the 4.0. can you spell it out to me....i have tried reading this blog but can't keep up since i don't know all of the names...i just want to know how that team did...i just can't see them getting beat

    ReplyDelete
  51. Springpark won but HP left out some big guns.

    ReplyDelete
  52. is sp - gene adn mitch etc...if so - of course they won...if not, who does sp have

    ReplyDelete
  53. Gene rolled, mitch and rasor didn't.

    ReplyDelete
  54. wildberger/sweeney crushed kennedy/walker but the lifetime pair had already played a tough match and beat Valtierra/Richardson from the Lakes. Lack of depth from all the matches is the only way SP loses.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Sorry Corey, but Gonzales is a singles player so you would have lost 1-4 to RO with your best lineup. You would have lost 1-4 to the Oak Creek team that didn't even make the City Playoffs as well. You will probably get your shot this weekend vs. Champagne. If you win that match I'll believe in your team a little bit. You guys are a good 4.5 team but no comparison to the dark side.

    ReplyDelete
  56. At worst we would have lost 3-2 with our A lineup. Doug and Jim would beat any team they put out there, and Peter tore a muscle up 4-1 in the second with a partner he had never played with. I agree they would probably sweep the singles but we would win 2 if not all 3 doubles.
    But we'll never know.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Cory - didn't you guys lose 2 out of 3 doubles lines to Tbar on the first match of day 1? How can you say you would take 2 or 3 of the doubles lines vs RO?

    ReplyDelete
  58. This is the first time I've read any of this bs and the first time to have left my own "blog". I haven't read any of the women's comments either, but I can't imagine them being any sillier; DQ's, red flags, Mitch vs Gene, etc... What a soap opera!! I realize that by sending this, I'm now opening myself up to some (hopefully good natured) taunting. I don't mind who knows who sent this, I'm just having fun playing after being away for about 15 years.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Tell me two doubles teams from Royal Oaks that would beat us. Phat and a good partner and who else? Joey and Henry would play singles so that leaves them out. As I said, it's a moot point because we will never play them again because their roster will be sans superstars next season. I'm not saying we are better than Royal Oaks, I'm responding to the comment that they are way out of our league, which is obviously false based on our records during the season and head to head matchups.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Dude, you guys were 0-3 at the City Playoffs and lost to T Bar twice this season. T Bar lost 1-4 to RO and 0-5 to Branch. The fact that T Bar could win the B Division proves how weak the Division was this year. You're not even in the conversation, give it up. Feel good about getting to the playoffs and leave it alone.

    ReplyDelete
  61. D-Raze - are you crazy for throwing your name into this mess....Go annonymous like the rest of us cowards. You can then protect yourself more easily when they start trashing you and throwing darts, bc they will, if you win....let there be no doubt - these guys trash anyone who wins, tries to get you dqd, red flagged, call you evil, cheater, sandbagger, or whatever....If you lose, they start saying nice things about you finally...just the way it works... One thing you will never hear on this blog - nice job, way to go....- your anonnymous friend.

    ReplyDelete
  62. July 22, 2008 8:16 AM

LMFAO!!!! that was funnEEEEEE!!!! nice job, way to go

    ReplyDelete
  63. Drasor,

Don't listen to them we will all be cheering for you to end the Houston run from last year and the ringer Austin team coming to Dallas.

Heck you if win nats, we are going to hang a banner for our group saying, "we almost beat those guys."

    Good luck next weekend.

Heck I am going to even cheer for Garland in a few weeks, as much as we all want to win if Dallas teams get swept out of sectionals I doubt any of us will be happy in fact it will make us feel pretty crappy about our level of play. In fact if you all get swept out of flight one, I am going back to 3.5 for 2009.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Cary,

You know you have a place to play in 2009 if you go down to 3.5..come to the dark side..my son!

Darth Vadar (co-captain for Garland 3.5)

    ReplyDelete
  65. Nooooooooooo!!!! Cary don't list to him!!!

    ReplyDelete
  66. Interesting topic. I hear someone with a bad shoulder will get surgery and medical appeal back to 3.5????

    ReplyDelete
  67. Thought I'd stop by and offer my congrats to all the teams who made it to sectionals. I saw SP, who look unreal at 4.0, and also OC at 4.5. Both teams should represent Dallas well. It was good to see good sportsmanship out there across the board, with the exception of TBar. I saw the last doubles match with OC vs. TBar. The TBar "crew" was so rude, and at one point was questioning calls from the sidelines. One person stood up and told them to stop. Anyone run into that with them. I don't know any of those guys but it seemed they lacked alot of class.

    ReplyDelete
  68. SP did look good for 4.5. They should cruise to nationals in 4.0. I would bet Mitch and Gene are the 2 best 4.0 players in Texas.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Eddie won't appeal down. That is just crazy talk by some1 not in the know.

Yeah, T bar M is a piece of work. We played them. They have a few rogues on that team, no question. 1 bad apple ruins it for all of them applies though. Makes them all look bad. And it can be contagious.

    ReplyDelete
  70. I'll just say that I was involved in one of the matches this weekend against T Bar and my girlfriend received some really nasty treatment from those guys. They just think they are better than everyone else. The guys we actually played were fine, just the ones that weren't apparently.

    ReplyDelete
  71. I also saw that and was very unimpressed with the sportsmanship of TBM - 4.5 Mens that Sunday. Not the players, but the fans. They were making fools of themselves from what i witnessed. It was embarrasing for those of us that were around them and i did not want to be associated with them. Hopefully that is not the way TBM normally acts and represents the club. TERRIBLE SPORTSMANSHIP FROM THOSE WHO DID NOT PLAY on Sunday.

    ReplyDelete
  72. Mitch will not win a match at sectionals unless he plays line 3 doubles, and the other team plays straight up. I watched him play last weekend, and he's not that good.

    ReplyDelete
  73. TBM Mens 4.5 ???? Fans and players watching that were rude or bad sports????? Cmon, there must be a mistake, that doesn't make any sense. Their captain is in charge of the leagues.

What lines did Modic and Steve Johnston play on Sunday, for TBM ?? Surely they were playing and not part of any of this.

TBM Mens 4.5 , I have always thought of that team to be some of the classiest, nicest, guys in the world - who don't talk about anyone negatively behind their back and are a very close, cohesive, bunch of good guys.

I did always wonder though, why their own club members did not want to play on that team for very long once they got to know some of the characters involved. I just thought it was due to burnout...
you may be on to something.

I will say this - the ones who were playing - were NOT the problem.

    ReplyDelete
  74. I know when I played T Bar my opponent was friendly and courteous, which is true for everybody on that team that I know. I don't know many on that team but we've never had any problems. But, as I always say, you see people's real personalities when they are losing, so that might be a reason for the observations.

    ReplyDelete
  75. stop kissing up.

    ReplyDelete
  76. I'd take Mitch and spot him a six-pack against any of you ragging on him, especially those doing so anonymously!

    ReplyDelete
  77. i warned you D-Raze - stop putting your name out there - go anonymous. Your time will come. It's a big wasp nest above your head and you are hitting it with a broom - and the door is locked - so RRRRRUUUUUNNNNN for cover NOW.

These anonymous cowards are brutal and have no fear. I should know.

Take Corey for example - he went 0-2 at Cities after he posted his name.

PS - I am with you though - Mitch for Pres - Davis for VP - and D-Raze for Press Secretary. Put Paul as your diplomat. I will be your under-cover jack bauer like agent. your bud, anonnymouth

    ReplyDelete
  78. Actually I was 1-1 in the cities but this blog definitely has a negative impact on my game.

    ReplyDelete
  79. Sorry, I was in between beers and missed a lot of this.

But you're right, I suck, and Gene's awesome.

Now who was it that was supposed to beat me besides Gene in 4.0?

    ReplyDelete
  80. My bad Corey - 1-1. I got excited and misblogged.

    ReplyDelete
  81. Sleeper team is Houston Wild. They had players suspended for the HCC but they will be allowed to play in sectionals. They have the #1 player in the state in singles (Dutchover) and one of the top doubles teams in Tom Le / Phoung Le.

    ReplyDelete
  82. sleeper team in what division.
    3.5, gene and mitche's, 4.5, 5.0 or 5.5.

    ReplyDelete
  83. I have a gut feeling that Somabut or Walters will win Sectionals. I really like Somabuts team, they have depth that will make a big difference playing in the 100 degree weather.

    ReplyDelete
  84. Let me tell you a secret. I have played both Dutchover and Gene. Ismail is solid, Gene will win 1-2 if he is being nice 0-0 if he get's pissed off from this blog talk. And for the trash talkers about Mitch. Go watch him go undefeated at Sectionals.

    ReplyDelete
  85. What some of you idiots don't understand is that Gene and Mitch have one goal... get to Nationals without getting DQed. They both have so much more game than they show.

    ReplyDelete
  86. I agree that HP and SP with be in the Final at Sectionals. I hope this time they have to really duke it out. Does Texas get 2 teams at Nationals???

    ReplyDelete
  87. If they are so much better than everyone how can this be fun for them? If they are really that good they should be ashamed for playing 4.0. They must be real jerks to play so far beneath their level.

    ReplyDelete
  88. It is just the way the game is played to win a national championship. I local league it would probably not be that fun. That is probably why both of them only played 3 of the 7 matches. It will get more challenging in Sectionals becuase Houston, Austin, and SA will have a couple of ringers as well. At Nationals every team will have at least one guy as good as Mitch. I don't think Gene will see anyone as good as himself, but he will at least be pushed there.

    ReplyDelete
  89. What is funny is that at Nationals there will be a guys that is extremely good and has not had to push himself all year and feels like he is unbeatable. Then he will play Gene and be like.. what the F***.

    ReplyDelete
  90. I think everyone knows how good Gene and Mitch are but what else does SP have to back them up? This is why I think HP is the team to beat, maybe no outright ringers but deep at every line.

You can't win sectionals with 2 players.

    ReplyDelete
  91. Well SP won't even have to play Gene and Mitch until they play Houston, the rest of their pool looks VERY weak.

For all the talk about the DCC winner getting in a harder pool - I just don't see it. Other than Houston, there is virtually no team that can push SP while Pool IV has several decent teams that will push HP. SP will have a harder semi-final though.

    ReplyDelete
  92. First,

Eddie by no means would I ever want to see you run around at sectionals naked. Not even for comedic effect. Eddie enjoyed our match.

    Second,

Mitch you need to quit drinking so much because you keep missing your lessons.

On a serious note, I appreciate all the kind words but by no means do I feel I'm the best 4.0 in the city, state, nation, world, or whatever. I'm pretty positive there are going to be tough matches in singles and doubles ahead for me at sectionals. All of this about me being a 5.0 / Open player is kinda silly. To be a true playoff caliber 5.0 one should be ten years younger then me, probably played some college tennis, drop 25 pounds, and play more then 8 total singles matches (including this weekend) since 2004.

Dan, I did it too. My name is out there as well. Does this mean I get grief now?

    Gene

  93. Is anyone a little surprised that there were no third flags picked up this last weekend?

    ReplyDelete
  94. Gene/Mitch,

Just seeing if you guys want to do a doubles challenge match tomorrow or next week sometime. Let me know.

  97. Hey Jean Jean Jean,

    Who do you play for?

    ReplyDelete
  98. Just heard about this blog and fact there were negative comments about the fans of the Tbar 4.5 team.

Can someone be more specific about the behavior? It just doesn't seem consistent with the people we know on this team. Thanks.

    ReplyDelete
  99. After Sectionals we will be representing Texas. haha.

    Playing for Highpoint Somabut.

    Jean

    ReplyDelete
  100. let me know if you all put this together, I would love to watch if I am available, or play in a side challenge match. I know Keith and Steven kind of suck maybe I could beat up on them so they can get ready for their sectional beatdowns. :)

    ReplyDelete
  101. They were shooting guns in the parking lot.

    ReplyDelete
  102. how about Sunday, I think you guys will be knocked out of the tourney by then, right?

    ReplyDelete
  103. DQ flags:

Yep anon I am curious as well, it seems the DQ counter was turned off last weekend but I hope those caps manage their players because I don't Dallas to have any players get rung up at sectionals. LTF and Garland make sure you ring up some 4-1 and 5-0 wins just in case something happens.

I think they should sound a horn when someone gets DQ'd at sectionals just for fun that way everyone knows. And then maybe they have to walk around with a scarlet number with their new rating as they watch the rest of the weekend.

    ReplyDelete
  104. They removed the wheels from the opponents ice chest.

    ReplyDelete
  105. There are no DQs at sectionals. The ratings are run after the tournament and anyone with 3 red flags can't go to nationals.

    ReplyDelete
  106. They run the computer after every match at sectionals. You are wrong about that. Some teams will even file grievances with Tosha right there.

    ReplyDelete
  107. You can file grievances all day long at Sectionals... but this year there will not be any flagged DQs.

This means that the only real guys in jeopardy are those who are self-rated and/or lied on their form. It will be tough to get rid of a computer-rated player.

On another note: what is being the best 4.0 player in the state, country, world like? Not sure if that is an honor or a disgrace...

Lastly, you guys all talk certain dominant players and how one of them won't lose a set at sectionals. I recall watching a finals match last year (think it was 3.5) where one guy was supposed to be one of these Uber-3.5s. Problem was, he had played four round robin matches, the semifinals and now the finals. It was 100 degrees all weekend and the guy was spent. He went on to lose and then his team thinks the other guy should be bumped... STFU, he just happened to be better rested.

    Just some food for thought.

    ReplyDelete
  108. I saw three guys, who had been wearing TBM shirts, caressing vapor rub onto one another and repeatedly chanted "Obama oh eight".

    ReplyDelete
  109. Thios must be the first year you are not dynamically DQ'd in sectionals. Is there a link to that? If that is true, a team that gets through city playoffs without three strikes is fine. It may destroy their chances at effectively competing at nationals but a two strike sectionals player is probably going to strike out anyway. If they lose a couple players, then a much better team could represent Texas but the crippled team will go instead.

    ReplyDelete
  110. as far as what SP has behind Gene & Mitch...I believe they have a couple or three guys that are very solid at singles...Walters,Terrell, and Pearson. SP has the depth and that was proven on Sunday in the final against HP...SP will advance out of sectionals

    ReplyDelete
  111. Yes, this is the first year without DQs at sectionals. There is no link to see, but the captain's letter from the state coordinator Sue Johnon-Maurer says that in no uncertain terms.

    ReplyDelete
  112. Walters, Terrell and Pearson. Uhhh. I don't think so. Maybe if the other team is rather weak at singles they can put these guys in. They can win at the local level but check Pearson's record this season, he didn't even do well in Dallas, Terrell is up and down. Jim is good but his style is suspect to getting overpowered, oops have I said too much.

    (just kidding)

    ReplyDelete
  114. Hey SP Supporter I appreciate your support for the team but based on your last comment I need some practice would you be available to play.

    mpearson

    ReplyDelete
  115. The TBM spectators had to be staved off by police in riot gear with tear gas and rubber bullets.

    ReplyDelete
  116. M Pearson. I didn't make the comment, but I will play you tonight if you want. 8pm Eddie

    ReplyDelete
  117. M. Pearson. Take 2 minutes to join the single Tennis Ladder and challenge me and we can coordinate for tonight. Eddie.

    ReplyDelete
  118. Hey Eddie good to hear from you. I have a team practice tonight but I am sure we can play another night. Just tell me when you are available to play.

    Thanks
    mpearson

  119. Jean,

No disrespect intended, but didn't Gene and I already play HP Somabut's #1 team and then our #4 team beat your #2 on Sunday?

I'll ask him if he's interested; Who's your partner?

    ReplyDelete
  120. nicely put Mitch, hey which one is you in the pic so I know who to cheer for next weekend? If Phy is playing with him they might be able to make you at least limit yourself to one beer.

I might like a shot at Pearson but I think had called Jim out, maybe next week...or after the big dance.

    ReplyDelete
  121. Cary,
Mitch is the one on the far right in sandals crouched over and wearing shades. Gene is the one way in the back towards the meddle wearing shades.

Interesting note. The two supposedly 5.0s are incognito wearing the shades.

    Hmmmm.......

    ReplyDelete
  122. M Pearson. It will have to be in the next couple of days. I am scheduled for Shoulder surgery on Monday and will be out for 3 months after that. I am trying to play all I can this week before I go under the knife.. Actually just a scope, but you know what I mean.
    Eddie

    ReplyDelete
  123. Wow, the rest of us on SP must suck; I was feeling pretty good about myself until I read some of these comments; I'm going to have to go to therapy to get my confidence back before sectionals.

    Jean,
    Hit the submit button ONCE!!

    ReplyDelete
  124. D-Raze - there you go again. let em talk about gene and mitch - if you stay out of the mix , you can be the silent assasin. they may not know you now, but wait till sectionals- you gots skillz. teh whole world will know....

    ReplyDelete
  125. to answer your question about the 4.5 TBM fans, spectators, and players that were watching this past Sunday - it seemed like there was a lot of whining, excuse making, accusing the other team of this or that, griping about this or that - just in general, being very rude, condescending and talking down about the other team. At one point, i heard some people accusing the other team of cheating or making bad calls and I was thinking - are you watching the same match everyone else is watching. The matches seemed to be going well and the players were not arguing at all- it was the spectators that seemed to be the problem. No big deal, but they were talking in front of everyone and I was thinking "how embarrassing if someones family is in the stands" - they acted like they were just in their own little world and had little regard for the others who were watching and trying to enjoy tennis. No big deal if it had just been one person, but it was enough to make people notice and comment.

Also - i noticed after the match - that they lost that match 5-0 and thought to myslef that might have been the problem. No one likes to get beat, but cmon, be a good sport.

Hope that is what you are looking for.

    ReplyDelete
  126. drasor,
Yes you and the rest of the team(except Gene but including Mitch)suck.

    ReplyDelete
  127. Mitch,

I was thinking playing with Phy-nomenon. But after thinking about it, it wouldn't be fair to you guys. How bout you guys pick one for me.

    Jean 'Hollywood' Nguyen

    ReplyDelete
  128. Jean Jean Jean,

    We'll play.

500 dollars or a Benjamin per game.

    Capiche'?

    Mitch.

PS, you're playing with your brother, right, the line 2, 3, or 4 for High Point?

so how bad do you beat Voss/Numen or Brouer/Robinson when you and your (life) partner play around with each other?

    ReplyDelete
  129. Wasn't HP's depth supposed to propel them far and far and further and farther?

Uuuh, why would HP lose terribly to SP if both teams play their depths?

Dan Rasor, Jim, Gene, Overrated Mitch, Cliff...all these guys on the bench and HP still has more depth losing 4-1?

Please explain this to me, 'cuz I don't think I can get there from here.

    ReplyDelete
  130. Mitch,

How bad can I and my partner beat the team of Voss/Newman or Brouer/Robinson.

NOT ALL THE TIME! We're all pretty much even. That is why you and Gene shoudn't have any problems. It's just a friendly challenge. You never know though... any given match, anything could happen.

    Jean Nguyen

    ReplyDelete
  131. Let's see SP's depth. How about Mitch picks another player from his team as a partner. We all know Gene is playing way below his level. I bet a case of beer Hai and Jean will beat Mitch and any other SP player.

    ReplyDelete
  132. Is it now official??? The 4.0 and 4.5 are every bit the cry babies that 3.5 is.

    ReplyDelete
  133. D-Raze and Mitch would destroy those two, you mention. save your beer bc i have my own, but don't go to vegas any time soon.

    ReplyDelete
  134. Reality Check.......

If HP put out their top line-up against SP's top line-up, HP wins every time 3-2 regardless as to how it is stacked. If SP plays Mith and Gene is doubles then it would be 4-1 EVERYTIME!!!

    ReplyDelete
  135. wow...i didn't know there's this much drama in league tennis...sounds like TNT drama up in here...haha it is more fun when everyone is talking trash to each other though...keep it up people...
and dan rasor, you don't need more beers!!! hahahaha stop betting for beers!

    ReplyDelete
  136. HP and SP should give the blog what they want. Exhibition match before Sectionals. SP Top 8 vs HP Top 8. Would be a fun match to watch!

    ReplyDelete
  137. well if we all help them scout the other teams we can watch that match up next Sunday at 12:30p.

Send your insights to Jim and Bob, jk, I doubt they want it or maybe they do.

I am not sure who would win in a 8 v. 8 with those guys but it would be close for sure and I hope we get to see that next weekend. I would have to cheer for HP but would not be upset to see the evil Springparkers go the nats either.

Same goes for a rematch i would like to see between Royal Oaks and OC/Branch. I would root for RO but just because this group hasn't been the sectionals for like 45 years in row.

    ReplyDelete
  138. Well Gene and Mitch would easily sweep the singles and I SP has at least 2 doubles teams that could take a doubles line off of HP. SP would have to put Gene and Mitch in doubles to even make it a competitive matach-up.

    ReplyDelete
  139. Mitch is not in shape to play singles in 100+ degree weather! He almost passed out last weekend at the DCC.

    ReplyDelete
  140. Ok I'm getting really curious now. Somebody who saw me play last year and has seen Gene and Mitch play tell me how much better they are than I was. I know I wasn't the best player at Sectionals last year but it would at least give me an idea of how good they are. I'm available next week if Gene or Mitch want to get a warm up match in before Sectionals. Good luck and I'm looking forward to hearing about next weekend.

    ReplyDelete
  141. Kern would get smoked!!!

    ReplyDelete
  142. Kern. I have never seen you, but if you cannot consistantly be 5.0's Gene will win 2-2.

    ReplyDelete
  143. oh my this is starting to sound like the 3.5ers talking about the Garland players who according to them could win at the 4.5 level. Everyone at sectionals gave me dirty looks about Kyle and then he proceeded to go 0.500 in his first 4.0 season. Granted now he plays at a high 4.0 level and could probably do Ok at 4.5 but to say you can just hop up a couple of levels and start crushing people...hmmm not so sure.

Gene and Mitch are strong players, one I know from seeing him play and Mitch told me he is amazing himself but to say they are merely need to walk on the court is a bit much.

They will have to play well, luckily I think they won't even be tested until Sat. afternoon, sorry still working on my post about sectionals.

I find it funny the only guarantees are from our friend anonymous, I don't think Mitch and Gene would ever say things like that unless they were playing Steven and Keith again but heck who wouldn't against those two guys.

    ReplyDelete
  144. I am sure jean and phy would take mitch and genie out! that's a no contest...that's like saying the william sister playing against the brian brothers...come on...who u think would win that one? i mean the sisters look big, strong and everything but it's not a comparison. hmmm just my thoughts..

    ReplyDelete
  145. wow....thanks buddy from the previous comment...but who the heck is mitch and genie? are they suppose to be really good or something? i just got back into the tennis world...dont' really know anyone. where's this match coming from? yall just want to see me shake my bootie huh?

    -phy

    ReplyDelete
  146. The comment about Mitch passing out in 100 degree weather is silly. I am in great shape and almost passed out at DCC while playing a tough match.

    ReplyDelete
  147. That may be a factor. a player like Dutchover who may not be a ringer or some phenom is in top condition and can play all the matches and his level of play will not drop at all.

He had beaten plenty of players that are better than them but outlasting them.

    ReplyDelete
  148. early forecast for next weekend. 97 degrees. Nice and toasty.

    ReplyDelete
  149. I am sure SP knows they need to be in shape. I am sure that is why Mitch and Gene both played plenty last weekend. It is time for them to ratchet it up and do what they joined the team to do. Go undefeated.

    ReplyDelete
  150. Cary hows that Lakes 4.0 team doing?

    ReplyDelete
  151. Dan Rasor sounds familiar. Isn't he the same guy that played in the 60's and 70's? I can't play against my elders...

    ...come on, Mitch

    Hollywood Nguyen

    ReplyDelete
  152. Come on Gene and Mitch. Open up a can on this guy. Just let me know when and where so I can watch and laugh. Mitch, you know you need the exercise...

    ReplyDelete
  153. No, he is not at all the same player that played at highpoint in the 70's and 80's with the white Kniesel racket, serving like Kevin Curran. That was Racer Dan.

This is the new and improved D-RAZE and you will RESPECT your elders and do it NOW DAMNIT.

He is like a fine bottle of whine.

I have tried to keep him annonymous and have warned him against throwing his name out there publically, but he refuses my instruction and he is about to be made public.

You can not keep a good man down, espicially with his ability and you fools that keep talking about Gene and Mitch haven't a clue as to who you are messing with when it comes to D-RAZE.

he has forgotten more about tennis than this whole blog combined.

HE IS MR. D-RAZE to you looneys. There, i have said it and he has been exposed. Start the DQ process immediately.

    ReplyDelete
  154. The lakes sent me a personal apology so I have forgiven them and they will be my preseason fav unless they are in my flight and then they will be crushed.

    ReplyDelete
  155. If he has forgotten more about tennis then every1 on this blog???? then doesnt that just make him old AND senile?

    ReplyDelete
  156. Lifetime has to be the favorite. They have the most coming back and Eddie will have a new bionic shoulder.

    ReplyDelete
  157. Cary has been on the Houston blog rooting for Houston to beat Dallas. I am burning my Lucky Thunder T-shirt.

    ReplyDelete
  158. Don't forget he is a bit out of shape also. For those keeping score at home - you are about to get a smak down a-kicking from an out of shape, old, senile - SUPER HERO D-RAZE.....

I feel sorry for the team that get's beat badly by someone who is old, out of shape, and senile. That will make for an interesting conversation at night explaining the match to your wife and kids....

    D-RAZE FOREVER....

I am getting T-Shirts made up, that says "my out of shape, senile, old fart super hero - just beat your DADDY at Sectionals" on the Front. on the back it will say :
    D-RAZE FOREVER....

who is mitch and gene and i hope they have game, bc D-RAZE needs some support - he can not play on all lines....

BUT if he could - he would be up 3-0 = each and every match and well on his way to AZ for NATS....

    D-RAZE FAN CLUB

    ReplyDelete
  159. I thought I got tired of hearing about all the negative comments of the 3.5 matches, capts. & 6.0 players on the 3.5 teams, but it is no different in the 4.0 or 4.5. I am going to go back to watching a honest sport, tag team wresling.

    ReplyDelete
  160. I bet D-RAZE can wrestle too.

    ReplyDelete
  161. I cannot respond intelligently right now (possibly the senility is setting in) because I'm laughing so hard; in the meantime, whoever is heading up my fan club, don't pump me up so much, I might actually start to believe some of that crap. (But I appreciate the kinds word anyway, thanks MOM)

    ReplyDelete
  162. Not your mom - but keep guessing.

It's about time you responded D-RAZE - we have all been waiting and the fans are going crazy. I have been trying to hold them off, but they are wanting to start partying in anticipation of next week - starting NOW.

Call me at my new tennis acadamy - 1-888-raz-2win. I want you to come play an exhibition. See if MB or BH can come and it will be like a 'reunion.'

Is it true- do you plan to run for President.

    RAZE RULES

    ReplyDelete
  163. I didn't realise drasor was a real person. I thought he was just an urban legend.

    ReplyDelete
  164. Keith - Give me a call at the D-Raze Tennis academy tommorow and we can start building your very ownurban legend tommorow. It will cost you $100 per day and $20 per cheerleader at tournaments. additional charges for things special request like : pretty, female, skinny, two eyes, basic stuff.

I only charged D-Raze 50 bucks, but that was bc we were tight back in the day, and i needed the cash.

D-Raze - are you going to come speak at the academy or not. Bring your boy CB with you. It will be like a 'reunion.'

Clues so far - MB, BH, and CB.

    ReplyDelete
  165. rooting for Houston? I think not. That is kind of like rooting for the Yankees isn't it?

Lucky Thunder Tshirts still on sale...

    ReplyDelete
  166. I think I know who MB and BH are, but I'm stumped on CB; also I did not play with a "Kniesal" racket (whatever the heck that is); it was a Garcia (Harold Solomen Autograph), until my supplier at Western Auto couldn't keep up with the demand.

I am now going to begin a self-imposed restraining order upon myself and this "chatroom" at least through sectionals; I can't believe I allowed myself to get caught up in all this in the first place. I prefer to be left out of all this posturing. Anyway it's way past my bedtime, and I have to take my geritol before I go to sleep.

    Bye for now.

    ReplyDelete
  167. I figured it out! Now that was my final entry until after sectionals!

    ReplyDelete
  168. I sense some serious ugliness with T Bar. What is up with that? Great group of guys who will party with you and hang out which is more than I can say about 90% of the other teams yet they get ripped about disention etc. come on ALL team have players wanting to leave because of playing time. Give it up nicest team we play PERIOD!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  169. 7:15pm is one of the TBM bench guys. He wants more playing time too!!! Cmon, ice chest, guns in the lot, three guys in the stands, police in riot gear........ you must be kidding that they are the nicest, parting guys. Who would want to......After all, he waited over a week to respond. The "ugliness" is that he is in damage control mode PERIOD!!!!!! Too little, too late, give us something we can believe.
