4.0 DCC thoughts/odds

4.0 Blue Flight (odds to go to sectionals)
Well High Point earned this starting last July when they put their fall team together and have kept this going and I don’t see the journey ending this weekend. I don’t think it matters who wins the flight playoff and to be honest winning a trophy and getting to see Jason Freeman’s Houston team early at sectionals doesn’t seem that exciting (AAAHHH, I just had a flashback. OK I am better now)

High Point EVEN
I don’t think the loss of Blumberg kills them but he was a good addition to this team because it forced other teams to respect them at singles and not send a strong player down to doubles to attempt to get them there. It is now up to Keller to be that guy at the top where he hasn’t really played before. Guys like Dreskin, Brouer and Pickett may have to step up and take some singles matches to insure they win this weekend. If they miss sectionals it would be a major upset.

Greenhill 50 to 1
A team not to be forgotten but not sure they stack up with these top four teams. They do have experience throughout this team but I am not sure they have any big guns other than Contreras that other teams must account for. I like them to score one unexpected win that will surprise us but don’t think they could beat multiple teams in this round robin.

T Bar M 100 to 1
As high as I will go on the odds and I know I shouldn’t knock on Flight A since they stepped up but past Wallace this team should not be a factor but I hope they prove me wrong and make this a close race from top to bottom. It depends on their doubles teams which dominate good teams and then seem to disappear at other times.

4.0 Red Flight (odds to go to sectionals)

This flight is ridiculously tough and I really think any one of these teams would be a solid rep or WC to send to sectionals. It sucks only one will get to go. I would rank these teams 2-4 behind HP and in front of GH and TBar.

Lakes 2-1
My adopted team although they never return my calls. It’s OK I am still their tennis stalker that has a man crush that won’t go away. I figured I would call out myself before Marc and Eddie do. But in all serious I like this teams’ chances to get a berth to sectionals. Key members in that push will be Holt, Valtierra, Runda and Richardson. I think what might have taken off some of their luster is the sub par showing of Brookhaven and Garland this weekend. So truly who have the Lakes beaten but it isn’t their fault they landed in that flight and the regular season means nothing now. If Runda and Holt can lead the way I see this team doing very well. It will come down to doubles play for them and I think they can come up with some pairings that will make it happen.

Springpark 5-1
Hmmm. Evil Springpark, ok they aren’t that evil and after LBH Spagnola’s wimper this weekend for our “mega tough” flight they are also looking a little softer than advertised. I think it is no secret Jim has been hiding Mitch but in order to make it out of this weekend he needs to play each match as well as Mr. Big Serve Davis (I only got aced twice but I think he was being nice). Ok that makes one guaranteed win and one pretty solid shot at a win. Where does the other win come from? I don’t think Walters or Pearson are a lock at this tourney in singles this year. I think it will be up to players like Wildberger, Lazarine and Rasor to toe the line at doubles to keep the train running strong.

Lifetime 8 to 1
Feuille, Hill, Wines, Nishaki, Kennedy and Myers. This team just matured over the weekend. I will be honest before this weekend I would have put them at a 25 to 1 shot but I am starting to drink the Eddie Hill Kool-Aid. I do think Forrest has to come up big this weekend in order for them to stand a chance and he hasn’t played much league tennis before. He was a lock in the tourneys before but showed he could be beaten by Blumberg but that kryptonite is gone now so that might have just been the one road block to make the LTF miracle continue. HP isn't in their flight either which they have lost to before. How does Feuille match up with players like Holt, McGowan and Davis, that is the realy question for this team.

116 comments:

  1. If Brouer and Robinson play like they did last year at this same time, High Point definitely can lose. They lost both their doubles matches in the first two matches, and didn't even want to play in the most critical 3rd match against Springpark for the right to advance, which was lost 3-2. I'm sure that's weighing on Bob's mind a bit.

    ReplyDelete
  2. I don't think LTF matured. Your evaluation skills did. Still in your teens thought. Pick LTF to win and your eval skills will mature to manhood.

    ReplyDelete
  3. Who handles pressure the best. LTF has been under pressure since losing week 1. they are 8-0 since then.

  5. Didn't someone say Flight A would have 3 teams in the top 6...3 months ago??

    ReplyDelete
  6. Eddie,

You're right. The goods teams haven't experienced any preesure yet. Lifetime won 3-2 to get out of the QT. The good teams have been taking care of business and getting ready for the weekend. I'm glad to hear you will have everybody available this week.

    Welcome to the big leagues.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Flight A will also have a team in the finals, but it won't be Lifetime or TbarM.

    ReplyDelete
  8. The "Wild" Dallas team will have a cake walk into the semis and maybe even the finals of sectionals. They should have put Wild Dallas with Houston and gave the Dallas winner the easier pool in pool IV. How does this process work? Why would all the better teams be put in Pool I and II?

    ReplyDelete
  9. It sure is nice having my own personal stat guy. I think I lost some matches in '04 also. I hope no one tells Bob. I hate to worry him.

    ReplyDelete
  10. How do I get a personal stat guy?

I have been curious about second serve return winners and unforced errors. Would love to know

    ReplyDelete
  11. Whoever makes the finals, look for both to out-tank the other to lose their way into the easy flight.

    ReplyDelete
  12. could we see a DQ if one super team tanks to another in a quest for the Wildcard??

    ReplyDelete
  13. the winner of the Final should get to chose which sectional spot they want. I am going to call Jane on that. Seriously

    ReplyDelete
  14. I did not know us Dallas boys were so afraid of the other Divisions. Just beat everyone in your own division and you don't have to worry about anything.

    ReplyDelete
  15. No one chooses their spot in sectionals. Make all the phone calls you want.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Men! Don't y'all get tired of whining???

We might have to rate this blog PG, so that our children don't start thinking this is what they have to look forward to once they become adults and play league tennis!

    ReplyDelete
  17. I want to call just so people don't tank the Final. I hate that. I could care less who we play. I just hate people that would step between the lines and try to lose. That really bothers me. I just want the threat of the other team being able to chose so everyone brings their best to the Finals.

    ReplyDelete
  18. You can call but what are they going to say when it was the DTA who changed the format?? Round Robin would have allowed us to see who was the real super team because everyone would have to play hard for the first three matches to guarantee one of the two spots. Silly DTA. Now make that call.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Good point!!! Now back to the matches. With Forrest and Eddie in singles I like our chances.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Forrest and Eddie will split singles matches at best in their flight. They could get swept. Then the question is, can Lifetime win two or possibly three doubles matches against the top teams. I don't think so. Their only chance is to sweep singles and squeek out one doubles line.

That being said, I want to congratulate Lifetime and Eddie for making it to the DCC.

    ReplyDelete
  21. thank you for the congratulaions.

    ReplyDelete
  22. wow. I remember when we called the 3.5ers the crybabies in the league.

    ReplyDelete
  23. oh they are still the biggest crybabies, although I haven't got a text from John in over 4 days, what no love John?

    ReplyDelete
  24. Look out for Spring Park, couple of ringers in Davis and a few others. Wildberger may be the most underrated 4.0 player in the city.

I hope everyone looks past T Bar, no depth but when they field their top team look out. They have a few players that NO ONE knows about and trust me they are GOOD!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  25. I understand people who don't like teams and/or players giving their all to win "between the lines" but as a captain I have no problem doing whatever necessary to put my team in the best position to ultimately win. If that means we need to throw a final or another important match, so be it.

All the smart captains would do the same but I imagine silly pride would take the better of most. Just depends on how much control the captain has over his team.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I agree to the captain comment. I have been a captain for a ton of years and I will play straight up unless I feel that playing "the game" will allow my team to win.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Dumping a Final in the Dallas Championships is different from moving your line 1 singles guy to line 2 becuase the other line 1 might beat your best guy. Teams that get too calculated with stuff like that always lose in the end. As a captain, I would never ask or allow my team to do that. It is poor leadership. "integrity is one of many paths, it is the right path because it is the one for which you will never get lost"

    ReplyDelete
  28. I agree with the last comment. Sometimes captains will flip line up to match up with the other teams tanking. Most always the team that plays the tanking game loses.... and I am very happy when that happens. Play straight up captains!!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  29. If Forrest and Eddie play singles for LTF, does Wines move to doubles? He has played all year at singles but moving to doubles would be a good move for him/LTF. Big serve, solid ground strokes. He could be a great fit with Kennedy and combined with Nishaki/Myers would give LTF two solid doubles lines.

I think LTF gets by SP but loses to Lakes.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I have a lot of respect for LTF getting to the DCC as I figured they had no chance. I would bet my dog though that they win only 1 or 2 matches in total against SP and Lakes. They are a year away. Wines, Feuille and Hill need to all improve for their singles to win at DCC or Sectionals and they need at least 3 more doubles players.

Let's give them respect for the growth they have shown but be realistic of their chances this year. It's nil.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I don't expect to see captains telling their players to lose on purpose. But I sure wouldnt be surprised to see only the benchwarmers in the lineup, playing whatever is not their specialty - i.e. singles guys playing doubles. Of course the Texas Section invited this situation themselves by stacking the top half of the draw with both Houstons, Austin #1, and Dallas #1. The only large city team on the bottom half is San Antonio, who is not bringing some of their players. The other teams are smaller cities or the big cities #2 teams. Then they published the draw before the playoffs, which effectively let the cities with two teams coming try to choose the bracket they wanted. Of course one can argue that Dallas could start and finish their leagues earlier - Austin started in February and were done in May. Then there would be no incentive to roll over and play dead.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Eddie Hill is the greatest. Eddie Hill loses to scrubs at a tournament. Eddies shoulder is blown out . Eddie Cant play for 6 months and needs rehab. ALL OF A SUDDEN Eddie can play in the playoffs..

What a rollercoaster. This guy is a TO wanabe. Lifetime blows and so does Eddie.

Did they name the court 6 after him yet?

    ReplyDelete
  33. I heard HP is going to play Keith and Hai at singles.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Corpus also started in February, and finished in April.

    ReplyDelete
  35. It would be a pretty big project to change the league schedules for over a thousand players. It would be a really simple thing to withhold the word "wild" from the draw, until after the wild team was decided. Apparently, that's what they did in the 4.5 sectionals, though it may not be for that reason.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Teams whose goal is to go to Nationals shouldn't worry when they have to play the tough teams. Only one team goes to Nationals. It doesn't matter if you meet them in your flight while you are freash or possibly in the finals after a lot of tough matches. It is true that some flight are tougher than others, but a National bound team can overcome that challenge.

    ReplyDelete
  37. What's HPs "A" Line-up going to be this weekend? They have so much talent at doubles it's freaking scary!

    ReplyDelete
  38. My guess at HP's "A" lineup this weekend will be:

    Singles:

    Keller and Somabut, possibly Pickett

    Doubles:

    Brouer/Robinson
    Newman/Voss
    H. Ngyuen/J. Ngyuen

    Pickett/Smith would be first alternate

Another idiot questioning my injury. Check the old blog entries dumb ass. I never said I was out 6 months. I said I needed surgery, (which I will get when we are done playing) and said I was out for at least a month. I was out for 6 weeks working my ass off in rehab strengthening the muscles around the damaged shoulder joint.

As for court 6.. Still waiting. Eddie

  40. 1. Keller
    2. Somabut/Pickett/Newman

    1. Voss/Newman
    2. Robinson/Brouer
    3. Deviney/Carlquist

    alts - Picket/Smith, J.Nguyen/Kemp

  41. Cary,

I think you were a little tough on TbarM. They played two great matches this weekend. I think they could beat Greenhill if they continue to play at that level. They have a lot of experienced, smart doubles players to go with Wallace.

    ReplyDelete
  42. You are right that Newman is a good singles player as well as Brouer, but I don't think Bob will split up one of his top doubles teams to get a singles player in a big match.

    ReplyDelete
  43. don't think I was tough just honest. I would say the same if it was my own team. TBar is good and congrats for getting this far but I have seen them in person a couple of times and nothing screams out upset. If they are Eddie pull it out somehow I will dedicate much time to them on Monday.

I do think they could upset Greenhill especially if they are both out of the running by that point. Greenhill is a mystery, they signed up 8 million players, didn't play half of them, got a guy from Waco then lost to brand new team from LBH, then won it by late DQ. They should have been much better this year so I could see them going south and TBar being the 1-1 team in that flight but if you are telling me they are going to compete with HP, puhleeese.

    ReplyDelete
  44. No, you are right about their chances of getting out of their flight, I was just saying that their odds should have been closer to Greenhills odds.

    ReplyDelete
  45. I agree that teams who legitimately think they have a chance to make it to nationals will ultimately have to go through each team. However, the longer your team stays alive the better your chances. Getting to Sunday is the key because anything can happen in those pressure packed matches. Plus, an easier pool means you get to rest your best players more and everyone gets involved with some playing time. It is a no brainer.

    ReplyDelete
  46. yep I don't have a problem with the strategy if you think it works with your player availability, matchups, etc.

I was faced with the same option but the 4.0 teams have an easier dilemma because either way they are going to sectionals. My plan was to roll throug the our first 3 DCC matches and then have a team meeting about it. Then dirty Garland messed up my plan by beating us so I scraped that plan and just told our guys to go out and win and we would see what happened and be happy either way.

i agree if you can get to Sunday it makes a big difference because then if you are deep and have talent you can hang with anyone but one tough match in flight play and you are out.

The question is how good is Freeman's team, they seem to be rolling thru the competition but two of those teams in the city playoffs were guys much like my 3.5 team of last year that were playing their first spring at 4.0 so I am not sure he beat anyone solid but that means they have yet to unleash what they are capable of.

i think Austin may be the team to watch for at 4.0.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Freeman got exactly what he wanted out of the HCC. He won it and all his players had some nice and tight scores reported and some of his top players even picked up losses. Don't put too much stock into any score or any results you have seen so far, everthing is calculated. Freeman knows how to work the system as well as any captain in Texas.

    ReplyDelete
  48. I just sent and email and had a conversation with the DTA and it is in the works to relevaluate where the Dallas Champ goes at sectionals so there will be no tanking. they are upset that it was put out prior to our final and are committed to fixing the issue.

    ReplyDelete
  49. I know last year Jane didn't want us to see the sectional schedule until Garland or us Officially won the DCC because of this very reason but if TX puts out the draws before it makes it hard on the DTA to keep things a secret. Even if TX just lists the teams as Dallas instead of wild Dallas which is what they did last year you can usually figure it out since you would never have two wild teams in the same flight. it is something to think about, draws usually come out the Monday before in tourneys why should sectionals be any different.

it is not like you are getting a friday bye or something, if you are planning on playing this tourney you are commited to playing the weekend so you shouldn't need 3 weeks of notice to when and where, etc.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Boy there is a lot of pressure on HP and Springpark to win this. Especially on the so called ringer singles and doubles teams. If they let their teams down it is over for both of them. That is a lot of pressure for Rec players to have on them.

    ReplyDelete
  51. It was said several months ago that the HEAT and the PRESSURE makes you have to throw out all the records and crispness of a guys stroke in warm-ups. Once that first toss goes in the air, it is about toughness and who will fight to find a way to win. I like our chances in that situation. GO LTF.

    ReplyDelete
  52. They will not change the sectional pools after they have been published. You can call Jane all you want. Nothing will change.

The TTA should make the change though.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Looks to me like there is a lot of pressure on Lifetime. They have been thumping their chest all season and have the second most votes in the poll. Twice as many as The Lakes and SpringPark. Plus, how could a team lose with Eddie "I just fight, no" Hill. That's a lot of pressure on his teammates.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Actually that puts more pressure on me. Just where I want it to be.

  55. 2008 Early Season Ratings

    Jul 15 2008 7:29PM

The 2008 Early Season ratings will be available Wednesday afternoon, July 16. We apologize for the delay, but we have been instructed by the national office that they are double-checking some information.

    ReplyDelete
  56. While I'll agree that Freeman does know how the system works (he has taken 2 teams to nationals as well as 6 teams to Sectionals in the last year and a half), nobody wants any match to come down to a 10-8 tiebreaker. I'm sure that was much more than what he was bargaining for in the HCC. In the end though he did make it out and that's all he was looking for. Also IMHO the Houston playoffs last year were more difficult than Sectionals partly due to the stupid no-ad scoring. So we'll see how much that difficult match is an indication of the strength of his team.
I am looking forward to being at LBH at 4pm on that Saturday to see if HP can exercise their demons and take down Houston (unless they tank DCC). I'm sure it will be a cool summer afternoon.

  58. i just saw this original blog and this may be redundant - but if we are putting odds and mitch, gene, paul, dan are all on the same team and anyone does not think they will win - you are smoking some serious weed - or these guys are not the same mitch, gene, paul, and dan. are you kidding me. that is a 4.5 or 5.0 team just two years ago. if this team shows up and wants to win -they will win nationals. please tell me where i have gone wrong, bc i don't get it, but have been out of TX for a while.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Oh c'mon, Gene and Mitch yes, but Paul and Dan? Plenty of guys that can hang with those dudes.

    ReplyDelete
  60. not in Dallas, playing in the 4.0 league. that team is LOADED - i say even money odds

    ReplyDelete
  61. Gene 5.0, Mitch 4.5, and everyone else solid 4.0 and nothing more. They should make it to sectionals, but they are not a lock.

    ReplyDelete
  62. The guys who are ripping on Eddie are probably guys who would get beaten 6-0,6-0 by him. I heard about this website and wanted to check it out, but it seems that their are a lot of jealous people out there. I can attest that Eddie was hurt very badly from the moment I met him down in Waco. He is not sandbagging and has been very dedicated to his recovery process. I am not saying that Lifetime will win or lose, but I do think it was quite an accomplishment to get to the DCC with a short-staffed team for many of the matches. That just shows that we are first and foremost a team and will take on whatever comes our way. Good luck to all in the DCC. Forrest

    ReplyDelete
  63. forrest and eddie = both douche bags

    ReplyDelete
  64. play nice. Eddie isnt a douchbag. He just likes a whiny NFL football player and always wants the spot light. Always talking trash and not backing it up

    ReplyDelete
  65. sounds like someone has an ax to grind with eddie and forrest. what's up with all the hate and continous name calling. why don't you give eddie or forrest a call, since you obviosly know who they are. talk about it man to man vs blogging and calling them names and wasting space on a good blog.

    ReplyDelete
  66. whoever this is does not know either one of us. I doubt anyone that does would say anything close to that. Other than spotlight comment about me of course... Actually I could care less about the spotlight, just enjoy competition and having an impact on the outcome. Can't wait til Saturday. Eddie

    ReplyDelete
  67. mitch and gene are solid but after that there is a big drop off on that team and they become on par or a little below the rest of the talent this weekend.

these guys are just getting old, they are solid senior team. I wouldn't be shocked to see them win the DCC though they have a fighting chance and with Gene and Mitch they just need to win one line. I don't think Gene and Mitch are locks at nats or even sectionals for that matter. I don't know if any player in Dallas is, maybe Houston and Austin but not Dallas.

    ReplyDelete
  68. It's hard to tell whether there is anyone in Dallas that match up to their (Gene & Mitch) skills, since they haven't played the top players in Dallas yet. Hopefully they'll meet their match (read Eddie) in the DCC.

These two seem like they played 5.0 few years ago, won some, then went into hiding, then just crept back into the scene playing 4.0. weird!

    ReplyDelete
  69. I will be curious to see how the Lifetime vs. The Lakes match turns out Saturday morning. Appears to be first real test for both teams.

In the other flight I don't think High Point will have any trouble with Greenhill. Greenhill's ringer is Eric Engelsgjerd, not Contreras, but be won't be able to hang with HP.

    ReplyDelete
  70. How does Eddie feel today?

    ReplyDelete
  71. That's like asking how Superman feels. I'm sure he feels great!

    ReplyDelete
  72. Eddie is probably less stressed this week knowing he doesn't have to play line 1 since Forrest is back. or will he?

    ReplyDelete
  73. Forrest and I just stepped off the court in a tough singles match after 3hrs...6-4 3-6 5-5.(I had to pick up my kids from FB camp) He had not played in over a week so I had an unfair advantage. By the end of the match we were both at the top of our games so I guess you all will have to wait and see what happens with the line-up. I sure am glad he is on our team for many reasons. Most of all he is a good guy. Eddie

    ReplyDelete
  74. Did you give Forrest a kiss before you went to pick your kids up?

    Lifetime = Gay

    ReplyDelete
  75. i just saw that all of blumberg's matches were DQed at 4.0 and 4.5. Shouldn't this drop them down in total match wins and change the flight assignments since these were assigned based on total ind. wins?

    ReplyDelete
  76. I saw where Hai Nguyen from HP played for the 4.5 team in the QT. I thought you could only play on 1 league team for the post season. Does that mean he is unavailable for Somabut's team? If yes... this hits keep coming for Somabut.

    ReplyDelete
  77. I am pretty sure that if it is more than 24 hours after the conclusion fo the last match then the team results stadn but his individual results turn to a DQ. I don't think it will alter seeding.

    ReplyDelete
  78. NO. QT is not a championship. You must chose which team you play for Once the championships start and stay with that team until they lose.

    ReplyDelete
  79. I'm not sure. The DQs are showing up as DQ and not DQ*. That usually means that the player is DQ from that team, but oppent doesn't get the default. It is my understanding that self-rated players who are bumped are DQed from the team and all of their matches are awarded to their opponents. As a self-rated player I'm not sure why the DQ* was not used.

    ReplyDelete
  80. since the 4.5 HP team lost it is irrelevant they can play for whomever but it could have took them out of the DCC if they would have gone onto to win the QT which they were pretty close to getting into a match with Corey's team for the right to play. I know Kirby is ready to move up and play 4.5 which I guess is why he made that decision and Hai is just really good but I was a little surprised to seem them play last weekend.

    ReplyDelete
  81. I am 100% confident that if you play for team A in the QT or the DCC then you can NOT play for team B (in any sections playoffs) before the sectional championships. All a captain will need to do is protest any match these guys play in and it will be treated as a "default" because they will be illegal players. Somabut will be forced to sit any of his guys who played a match in the QT for a 4.5 team.

    ReplyDelete
  82. The QT is treated as a championship because teams had to "advance through competition" to get there. This has been discussed over and over in other sections.

    ReplyDelete
  83. I think you are right. I got this from the email Jane sent out to the captains last week. I guess it does not matter since they lost, but that was a big risk to take.

The QT is in the championship progression. If a player is on two teams and plays with one team in the QT and his team wins the QT, he cannot elect to play with his other team in the City Championships. But if the team he plays with in the QT is eliminated, he may join his other team in the City Championships. In other words, once a players plays on a team in the championship progress, he is committed to that team as long as they are
in the running for the National Championship.

  85. To address comment at July 16, 2008 6:17 AM:

Didn't HP's best team get whooped by Gene and Mitch, then Mitch drank beer, kept drinking beer, and quashed the great Eddie?

Not sure how you believe the voting, Gene and Mitch were supposed to lose that match by a 2/3's vote on the blog.

    See ya' Saturday.

    ReplyDelete
  86. Mitch and Gene are cowards. They are scared to play in 4.5 or 5.0 because they know they would get owned.

Eddie Hill just needs to go pro now he so good. Him and Blake can represent the black race in tennis like Tiger in golf

    ReplyDelete
  87. lets not make this about race guys. I love fried chicken

    ReplyDelete
  88. Sorry to tell you your 100% confidence is wrong. It specifically says in the rules they gave to every captain that if your team is eliminated in the QT, you can play on another team in the DCC. I didn't know that until this season either.

  89. To Anonymous poster: Lifetime fitness will create a new tennis facility after Eddie Hill + your douchebag comments + your gay comments.

It is pretty easy to see it is the same person over and over, and we are just laughing AT YOU, not with you.

Not only are you boring, but you are also childish, and embarassing. Is your mentality even over 18? SERIOUSLY??? It is pretty easy to see that whomever is posting these messages is obviously very immature, single, and lonely. Cause no self respecting female would put up with a guy like you. You are a disgrace. If you are married, your wife hates you, and if you look back at your own messages it should be pretty easy for you to figure out why she does.

I would hope you would grow up, but since pretty much everyone in this league is over 30, that leaves very little hope for you that you will ever turn into a man.

  91. Lakes vs Lifetime How do the doubles teams match up? Singles looks close and could go either way. Problem with having a big first match. Loser is done

    ReplyDelete
  92. Lakes vs. Lifetime Doubles Matchup? Both teams are very good or they wouldn't still be playing this late in the season. It's going to come down to who wants it more and who plays the "tough" points the best.

This is similar to last year's NBA Playoffs of Golden State vs the Mavericks, and we know how that turned out.

    ReplyDelete
  93. The format is tough, but it doesn't mean your done with a loss, you just can't lose worse than 3-2 and you have to win your next match. All three teams in that pool are very good. It will probably come down to all 3 at 1-1 and the matches won and sets won will determine who moves on.

    ReplyDelete
  94. It is actually lines won and sets lost, but you know what I mean.

    ReplyDelete
  95. Lifetime will have to win both singles matches to have any chance against SP or Lakes. I just don't see them beating either team. Even money on Springpark to make it to the finals.

    ReplyDelete
  96. Yeah, I remember the Mavericks were swarmed and pick-pocketed by the Golden State GYPSIES (Note: no racial connotations intended, if you've ever been a tourist in Italy, you will know what I am talking about).

Don't see that happening in the Lakes/LT situation.

Different sport, here it is one against one or two against two. "Gypsyism" doesn't work in team tennis.

If you really want to see First seed vs. Last seed upset comparison, it has got to be HP vs. TBar. Don't see that happening either.

    ReplyDelete
  97. I agree. the teams in the Lakes pool are too closely matched. No real upset there. Just good teams. It should be a fun weekend.

  98. yeah talk about your team or who you think will win this weekend or get off the blog. More than anything GROW UP!!!

  105. From USTA:

this is in regards to Nguyen. They did get lucky that they lost out.

The Qualifying Tournament (the first weekend of our two playoff weekends) is in the championship progression. If a player is on two teams and plays with one team in the QT and his team wins the QT, he cannot elect to play with his other team in the City Championships. But if the team he plays with in the QT is eliminated, he may join his other team in the City Championships. In other words, once a players plays on a team in the championship progress, he is committed to that team as long as they are in the running for the National Championship.

You are really weird. REALLY WEIRD. Its obvious you are poster 1,2 & 3. I am not addressing you nor your actions anymore.

  108. 7:48am and poster above. Way more people agree with your sentiment. I have played League Tennis for several years in Dallas and 99% of the guys I have run into are good guys that love tennis. Whoever this fool is name calling like a 5th grader does not represent the quality of people I have met and care to be associated with. Grow up is right.

  109. Lot's of pressure on all these ringers from HP and Springpark that just got bumped up. They now have the weight of knowing that this is their last real shot at ever making a run at nationals. They will be just average at the next level. that is a lot of pressure.

    ReplyDelete
  110. I don't know about that! The guys that got bumped up from HP/Springpark will be able to hold their own in 4.5. Some of them already played 4.5 in the past and have beaten the high end 4.5 players.

    ReplyDelete
  111. Then why the hell would anyone that can beat high end 4.5 players want to play 4.0. Winning at a lower level means nothing, absolutly nothing.....not only for that player but also for the team that he/she played on...cheating is not winning. USTA can fix this real easy...only allow players to play at one level. What is really bad is that they even allow players who protest their rating to play at the level they were before they protested. Can someone explain why a player would protest and then want to play up?

    ReplyDelete
  112. Because you know that you can play at the level above, but at the time that you SIGNED UP, you did not think that you could play above at a COMPETITIVE level.... and then you surprise yourself.
