3.5 C
City - Greenhill/Kayser 7 - 1 **Division Champs**
QT - Fretz/Albrecht 7 - 1
QT - Lakes Tennis/Foy 5 - 3

Flights A & B pretty much went as planned.
I was wrong about Sisk having a rebuilding year, after visiting Garland Tennis Center and seeing the Al-Qaeda like training ground Sisk has set up I can see how he keeps getting fresh blood into his system.

FYI...Did you see the Westlake match? 3 out of the 5 lines retiring?
Wow! nice way to end the season.

LT came up one 3rd set 10 point tie breaker short in a 3-2 loss vs Huffhines, vanquishing them to the QT.

Things got wild and woolly in the last weeks in flight C,
Both OC and CC flinched in the last weeks and let a surprising Lakes team into the QT,(For the first time?)
Greenhill was able to right their ship and take their rightful place as Div C champs.
Fretz finished with a very respectable 1 loss.

  1. Great job to Corey,Marc, and Cary on this blog!!!
Korbin- it was grat to have met you and to see Morris yesterday. You have an incredible serve! All three lines had big servers, I haven't seen that all season at either 4.0 or 3.5 in the same match. If you guy's want to join my 4.0 team in the fall, please contact me.
Great season and looking foward to the post-season.

  2. Anon,
We are in for the RR tournament among other teams- good stuff!

  3. Sisk, Ratcliffe, Kaiser & Haney,
You guys have any interest in putting together a "top gun" 3.5 league for the fall which has six of the top 3.5 teams from the spring? (We play a double round robin or 10 matches.) Big advantage is that the top teams and top players play each other every week. Administration would be easy. We use USTA rules exc where caps agreed to change. Maybe play our all three sets for example. Scores do not go into TennisLink so everyone can play their best every match.

We can all go back to the USTA league in the spring.

Players would love it if we could get the top captains on board. Why play a bunch of very easy matches aga the weaker 3.5 teams when we could have the best playing each other every week?

    ReplyDelete
  4. Ya, why dont you join sisk's team 4.0 (minor league) team and become known as one the cheaters from Garland. That way Sisk keeps restocking on his quest to "capt." a really good team to sectional/nationals rather than play on a really good team... just pitiful!

  5. Anon, the RR sounds good to me. I think everyone enjoys the competition. Bob Kayser

  6. I think the city championship seeding will be -
    1) Garland
    2) Huffines
    3) Greenhill
    4) Brookhaven
    5) Playoff winner

Can anyone verify that or have a different opinion?

    ReplyDelete
  7. JMO - I think the DTA did a great job scheduling the teams. There were still a lot of races that were decided on the last day for post season play or position.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Congrats to Greenhill,Garland,My Huffhines teams for winning there divisions. The City Playoffs should be very competitive. In my opinion I agree with Bob Kaiser except the QT winner should be seeded higher then Brookhaven who seems to be weaker then the fall team.
GOOD LUCK To All The Teams

  9. Nice Job on the blog Marc. It was top notch

    ReplyDelete
  10. Does seeding mean that much at cities? You play round robin, correct?

    ReplyDelete
  11. Garland vs Huffines, who wins? Lineups?

    ReplyDelete
  12. Garland, huffines does not have the doubles to compete. Huffines back bone is their singles, they rely on sweeping singles to beat good teams, and at best they split singles with garland. Garland 3-2, winning a singles line and 2 doubles.

    ReplyDelete
  13. garland is awesome both singles and doubles. they will win dcc w/o to much trouble. self-rated players will lead the way.

    ReplyDelete
  14. There doubles are not awesome! They are good, but not great by any means! Singles they are great, in a cheating way!!

    ReplyDelete
  15. Garland is overrated. They are good but nothing spectacular. They were much better last year. They have no Flora, Harvey, Defeo or Courtney. They have several Deliras but no superstars like last year.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Garland has just been keeping things underwraps for the DCC. Keith Clark is outstanding and can win any dbl line with a decent partner. He is 8-0 so far. Heath & Hess are also undefeated and probably better than Bennettt & Arcaria. Garland also has strong singles and good depth. They are the best team in the DCC.
LTF is not very strong in singles. Huffines is not very strong in doubles. Garland is strong across their entire line-up.

    ReplyDelete
  17. QT
Life Time looks like a heavy favorite to me. Fretz, HP, and Lakes just do not have the talent to compete. Westlake has an outside change but Life Time looks better in both singles and doubles. Life Time should win every QT match by at least 4-1.

  18. Anon 6/29 @ 9:43pm,

Count BH/Hogan in for a "best of the best" league. I've spoken with Johnnie, Robby and Kenneth and we thought this was an outstanding ideal. We were really surprised that none of us thought of this first. We are a great team & will be even much better this fall. So thanks for asking us to join. How many other Captains have responded?

    Thanks again,

    Ben

    ReplyDelete
  19. I hope that above statement is a joke! BH Hogan would have hard time playing in the bottom of the bottom league..

    ReplyDelete
  20. Is that why in the preseason scrimmage Arcaria/Bennet smoked Heath and his partner 6-2 6-2??? His partner was Gordon, a solid player as well.

    ReplyDelete
  21. People like Ben Hogan (no disrespect intended) are the reason we need a "top gun" 3.5 league. Why take time away from your busy schedule, travel to another facility and then waste your time with a lousey match?

I saw the recent LTF vs Huffines match. Everyone played hard and every match was a good one. The result was in doubt right up until the end.

WHY NOT HAVE MATCHES LIKE THAT EVERY WEEK IN THE FALL? We just need 5 or 6 of our top captains to get put teams together. USTA fall league sucks anyway. What do we have to lose?

    ReplyDelete
  22. I say we make the fall league a 3 drink pre-game minimum. That would make it more fun and interesting!

    ReplyDelete
  23. anon 11:46am. You keep writing about starting a top team fall league. who are you?

    ReplyDelete
  24. There would be interest in a top league from some of the Milke Brookhaven team members.

    ReplyDelete
  25. im just a 3.5 player. we need the caps to be interested or this is dead in the water.

john sisk, ed ratckiffe, bill kaiser would u guys be willing to organize teams for a fall 3.5 top gun league???

    ReplyDelete
  26. What would be the reward of this league? Most of the top teams get good enough practice against one another and don't need to waste time for more "practice".

    ReplyDelete
  27. Reward? Money? Only computer rated players can play in league. That would be fun.

    ReplyDelete
  28. there is nothing to win in the fall usta league. not talking about "practice or scrimmage" talking about tough hard matches with everyone playing to win. playing for pride and maybe winning team gets a free lunch at the end.

this would be a good way for top players to play & socialize with other top players getting to know others better.

currently the top teams play 2/3 or 3/4 of all matches are against weak, non-competitive players & teams. thats not much fun and a lot of wasted time. the best teams dont play aga each other until the playoffs. why not a tough match every week?

    ReplyDelete
  29. Biggest Reward: Not having to play against Ben Hogan and comparable players.

    ReplyDelete
  30. what if we just got the top players and played some weekend round robins. That way you wouldnt have to be affiliated with a particular team.

    ReplyDelete
  31. We need someone to arrange it. very interested from brookhaven. We could even play indoors if you wanted.

    ReplyDelete
  32. TOP GUN 3.5 LEAGUE
    1. USTA rules apply except we play a full 3 sets
    2. Caps organ teams, get courts, record scores, etc like they do now. Scores emailed to central pt and posted on blog.
    3. All 3.5 players currently on teams are eligible to play regardless of mid-year ratings. (We want the best to play.)
    4. With 5 top teams we play a 8 game schedule. With 6 top teams we play a 10 game schedule on Sundays just like USTA.
    5. Player fees maybe $5 not $35. We buy lunch out for winning team.
    6. Any issues, caps vote by email. (We'll onlynhave 5 or 6 caps.)

Just like the playoffs, EVERY match would be tough like Huffines vs Garland, Greenhill vs LTF etc.

People whinning about cheating need not apply.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Why dont we just come up with two man teams with no affiliation. That would be a lot more fun...

    ReplyDelete
  34. we need a cap or two to step forward and help organize. im just a player and travel constantly. good at ideas but not at organization. but if u want tough matches every week in the fall -> then this is top gun league would be a big hit.

How about Carl Milke from BH??? Can u help us get organized?

JOHN SISK - what are your thoughts?

ED RATCLIFFE - is this a good idea or bad?

BILL KAISER - Any LTF interest in top guns?

BOB KAYSER - Are u interested? Can u help organize?

    ReplyDelete
  35. most of us like the team approach with 2 sgl and 3 dbl. its nice to continue to play with your buds.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Who ever you are if your really interest in this at least have the decency to post your name or else I'm going to delete all of this pie in the sky crap,

I want an all girl Swedish bikini tennis league started in Dallas,
Can all of you capts who invest too much of your time and effort in Dallas already please make this happen for me,
    Thanks

This is a Spring and QT thread,
    Please thread-jack somewhere else.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Both the QT and DCC should provide outstanding matches this year. A Top Gun league would take the same teams and have them play each other every week. Pretty cool.

Let's invite all the QT teams and all the DCC teams. If we get as many as 4 or 5 then we could really have a great time.

We do not need the USTA to organize and control all aspects of our tennis activity.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Organization and court time does not just fall out of people's asses.

It takes time and takes money.
If you have ever been a capt you know how hard it is and how much time you have to invest.

You can't have the play-off every week,
    Then it's not the play-offs,

    ReplyDelete
  39. Ok all you Democrats why dont you try and get all the rich teams taxed and then take their money give it to the poor teams so they can get better equipment/lessons and therefore get better and more competitive then we can all have great matches in the fall!

    ReplyDelete
  40. We are not talking playoffs every weekend. We are talking good matches every Sunday among the top teams.

Caps get court time JUST LIKE THEY DO TODAY. That doesnt change if we are playing a Top Gun league or a USTA league.

Captains already find players, secure courts, balls, prepare line-ups, get matches played, report scores etc. We follow existing USTA rules use existing NTRP ratings.

Think about. The only thing the DTA does (prior to playoffs) is send out a schedule. With a 5 or 6 team league we can do that in about 15 minutes.

Dont be afraid. This is not difficult. Captains and players are already doing all the work.

    ReplyDelete
  41. why would a strong 3.5 team want to play a bunch of matches aga guys like ben hogan just to make the playoffs and get a few good matches at the end of the season? whats wrong with a good match every week aga one of the top teams? whats wrong with actually having a tough match and having fun every week?

    ReplyDelete
  42. If some of you guys won $1 million in the lottery you would turn down the prize because of potential tax problems.

The fall league sucks anyway _ and it is meaningless. The fall is a good time to try something new.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Just a quick thought, rather than play a top gun division.

Go play at the appropriate level at 4.0

    ReplyDelete
  44. OK. Sign me up for this Swedish girl bikini tennis league thing.

    ReplyDelete
  45. we r 3.5 players not 4.0 players. best 3.5 teams playing each other is very competitve. not true with all 4.0 teams. theres a huge gap between best and worst 4.0 teams. top 3.5 teams all pretty close in ability. top gun will be a good way to socialize and make friends with players of equal ability.

agree it is not intended to be for everyone

  49. I will supply balls, each player must sign in and pay his $2.00 ct fee. 13 spots available.

    ReplyDelete
  50. John,

    ReplyDelete
  51. If "we" are going to organize, do you have a name? I need just a little help.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Top Gun League is a good idea, but would guess that teams will not have the best lineup available every week.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Has anyone seen a picture of Pabst, the dog that just won the World's Ugliest Dog for 2009? I wish I could post the picture on here, cause I'm almost certain it is Ratcliffe.

  54. Where are you from Palacioz? Do you want to come out?

    ReplyDelete
  55. Greenhill/Kayser. Would love to, but out of town this weekend.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Who is this clown proposing the top-gun, elite, whatever-you-want-to-call-it league in every level's thread? It comes across as a very pompous and pretentious grab by someone who feels he was somehow wronged by the DTA and is looking for people to get on board to help validate his feelings of self-importance as a player at the expense of others who aren't as "gifted" as he is. Give it a rest already.

    ReplyDelete
  57. got the idea from the 4.0 guys. but doesnt look like theyre moving ahead. nothing aga dta moran. about good matches every week. but wont go w/o caps supporting idea.

if not 4 u dont play

    ReplyDelete
  58. To Anon 5:26,

What you think about me predicting that there would not be good matches every week. Top players are not available every week and if they are, what about the other players not in top line up? I wasn't there, but according to the scores, there were 2 good matches out of 5 for the LFT/Huffhines match.

    ReplyDelete
  59. "top gun" league is not a bad idea but is a bit "pie in the skie". I do not think you will see the same level of talent in the Fall as you have now as most of the true talent will be bumped to 4.0 mid-season. "IF" I captain a team in the Fall, its focus will be to have fun. I sort of like the 3 drink minimum ideal myself !

Sisk - cannot make Sunday. have a tri-event that morning and sounds like a lot of the team is out of town. Besides, hoping to play you anyway in a few weeks!!

Ed - Congrats on the win Sunday. You have a great group. I will start giving my guys chocolate milk instead of beer after the match if it will make them play like Chris Jones! Looking forward to a re-match.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Palacioz, your information on the LTF/Huffines match is not correct. LTF won line 1 doubles easily. The other two went to third set tie breaks. Chris Jones won easily, and the Oleg/Gerber match was a little more competitive then the score indicated (it was the longest of all 5 matches with many of the games going to deuce).

    ReplyDelete
  61. Nice try 7:23, I was there and saw a good portion of all 5 lines. Line 1 and line 1 doubles won in straight sets. Line 3 was a third set.

As far as singles, neither match was close. Just because gerber/oleg match lasted longer dosent mean it was close, just to damn long on change overs and between points, and way to much "pushing" going on. C. Jones could have won 0-0 but threw a couple of games to ltf just for kicks.

    Get your story straight!

    ReplyDelete
  62. I mean line 1 and line 2 doubles won in straight sets. Just look at the scores on tennis link.

    ReplyDelete
  63. To Anon 7:23,

In TennisLink, I see only one 3rd set. I know scores don't tell the whole story, but only 3 sets were 6-3 or closer from all the sets.

Back to the Oleg/Gerber match. Where you there? I was considering the Oleg/Gerber match as an easy one. You say it was little more competitive then the score indicated. Do consider it an easy win for Oleg? Do you think that Gerber would win a rematch?

    ReplyDelete
  64. I am not trying to point out that LFT/Huffhines was not a good match. Just using it as a reference to the Top Gun League. It may not turn out like we think.

    What about this option.

Forget about what team you are currently on or will be on.

Determine the number of teams and captains.
Determine the number of players per team.
Players make themselves eligible to play.
Then we all meet up and have a Top Gun League Draft.

That might make the matches more competitive each week.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Let the captains play a singles tournament for drafting order.

    ReplyDelete
  66. When do Arcaria/Bennet play next, and are they on the LTF team? I'd like to watch them play, as a lot of you on here say they are a solid team...

    Thx

    ReplyDelete
  67. Palacioz,

That "fantasy tennis" idea sounds good; however, there are a lot of players out there, and not everyone knows who everyone is. I agree it would be interesting, and guys could actually meet and get to know other folks from competing teams. One of you smart guys out there figure out how to make that work! :-)

    ReplyDelete
  68. Is the QT this weekend or next?

    ReplyDelete
  69. This is my first post on the topic.
I like the idea of a top gun league esp if we can keep approx same rosters we have now. ie ignore mid-year ratings and let guys continue to play on their existing teams. Matches among top teams would be fun and very competitive. Also the weaker teams do not enjoy getting killed by GTC or LTF or example - so this could be a win/win. Nothing against the DTA. But they have to let everyone play. So if a 2.5 player wants to play 3.5 he can. Also the fall league is an "off-season" local activity.

Need captains to coordinate. Looks like Milke and Sisk are interested and Kaiser is not. What about the other top-team captains? Ratcliffe? Albrecht? Lenehan? Jameson? Haney? Kayser?

    ReplyDelete
  70. John,
I'm just a occasional 3.5 player on one of better teams. Have a couple kids, travel a lot, not a cap and not good at organizing this type of thing. I never criticize other players and never call player or cap a cheater and have no problem with DTA. I just have fun. I watched the Huffines vs LTF match and thought wouldnt it be great if the best teams played against each other every week. I also saw blog comments on the 4.0 thread. But to be honest I dont know all the details required to make that happen. It can be frustrating when you take time out from a busy schedule for tennis but the competition is very weak. (I dont think I'd compete well at 4.0 and my friends all play 3.5.) We need a few captains to champion this idea or just let it die. I wont post anymore on this topic. Best wishes to your team and all the other playoff teams.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Anon 8:22AM

This is my first post on the topic.

Hmmmm, sure sounds like the SAME guy that has posted countless times on the topic. Let it rest. It's just easier going through the USTA.

    ReplyDelete
  72. Palacioz,

I wouldn't say my match against Oleg was that easy, but I'm sure people have their opinions. The first set we were on serve up until 3-2. I definately did not play the way I usually do and it hurt me. Could I beat him in a rematch, not sure, but I guarantee the next time will be a lot closer.

BTW, you look to have a good record, you interested in playing singles this week? You can then judge for yourself. Let me know.

    Gerber

    ReplyDelete
  73. Arcaria/Bennet do play for LTF, so I would imagine they will be playing in the Friday match against Fretz @ LB Houston.

    ReplyDelete
  74. I agree with Palacioz in the sense that because 2 good teams play it does mean that everyone playing will have a competitive match. The team match may be close, but the individual matches may not be. I think if every team plays straight up and does not try to manipulate lines in order to get an advantage, you will have some competitive individual matches. Have line 1 doubles match up versus eachother, etc..

    ReplyDelete
  75. Gerber,

Sounds good. You should be getting an e-mail from me if it is not there already

    ReplyDelete
  76. QT
HP has the worst singles of all teams in the playoffs. They have decent dbl but no chance to beat a top team. Lakes and Fretz have some good players but lack the depth to challenge LTF or WL. It all comes down to LTF vs Westlake on Sat 1pm. LTF is the favorite but WL has a real chance.

    LTF 4-0
    WL 3-1
    Fretz 2-2
    Lakes 1-3
    HP 0-4

    ReplyDelete
  77. I thought Sutherland of HP was a decent singles player?

    ReplyDelete
  78. HP has great doubles lines but Sutherland is only a decent player.

    ReplyDelete
  79. Great doubles? I do not know about that! Solid doubles is what I would call it.

    ReplyDelete
  80. Westlake is short on singles players too. Also, since their average age is Super Senior, I would guess the heat will begin t get to them.

Lifetime rolls. We did not have our best line out against Huffhines. Dennis, Scribner, Weinstein and some others can still play.

    ReplyDelete
  81. Palacioz,

No email received. Lets try to play tomorrow if you can? AlangerberB@aol.com

    ReplyDelete
  82. My freaking grandmother could beat Sutherland. He is pathetic. Guarantee he will lose EVERY match he plays at the QT.

    ReplyDelete
  83. Can we get a Sutherland vs the grandmother match setup? I will take Sutherland.

    ReplyDelete
  84. Topgun is a good idea. But some of you clowns would shovel shit on any new plan. Probably the same anons that insult others & call people cheaters. My loyalty is to my captain and my team. I'll play wherever the team plays.

  91. Respect from Sisk; is that a good or a bad thing?

    ReplyDelete
  92. Has your respect due to his cheating i'm sure.

    ReplyDelete
  93. If you personally know Sisk its a good thing. If you question the man's integrity then you are like the majority of people who voted for Obama you didnt know the facts about the man.

    ReplyDelete
  94. How is it pathetic when you have multiple players who self rate at a level below their capapbilities and then manipulate scores in order to avoid DQ's? It is flat out cheating, Wickman and Fonseca are for sure out of level, and to manipulate scores compounds it. Quit defending a cheater, then again you are probably one of them!

    ReplyDelete
  95. Have you ever seen Wickman and Fonseca play? I have watched them and thought they were just both pushers. They are consistent but they are not like Mudsam, Defeo or Flora last year. If you think Wickman and Fonseca are way out of level, you are wrong.

I am not defending Sisk because he brought Flora and Defeo but Wickman and Fonseca are not ringers like those other guys.

    ReplyDelete
  96. anon 7:38 am
You are so ignorant. You have no idea what a high level 3.5 looks like. Someday go and watch a National event and see the level of competition which the USTA deems 3.5.

Again, you have a big mouth but dont know what you are talking about. NONE of Sisk's players are out of level.

    ReplyDelete
  97. You too are a joke! They are out of level, you are a loser for defending them. Believe me I have seen 3.5 level players and do not even bring up PR, because no one cares about them. Sisk cheats every year, and it sounds as like you two clowns are on the Garland team. 99% of this blof knows GTC are a bunch of cheaters!!

    ReplyDelete
  98. GTC are the biggest cheaters in Texas, year in and out!!!!!!!!

Your statement leads me to believe you are a Republican, and you may have been the one who posted the remark about the Republicans funding Democrat players and bla bla...

I'm sure you are frustrated your guy didn't win - that's understandable. However, given the scope of the economic downturn, job losses, existing national debt, situation in Iraq, Iran, Pakistan, etc... I'm just curious how you feel the current administration is doing and has done in its brief 2009 tenure?

Can you formulate some better ideas that both the Congress and Senate would support? How would YOU, Mr. Obama-basher, have handled the situation handed to you from the prior administration?

And remember, short answers with no substance just won't cut it. I will give you some ammo to help start your debate -- The Fed has just been printing money out of thin air, supported by, say... China?

    Ok...go! I'm listening...

Now, as you sit there staring at a blank screen, do yourself a favor and work on more productive things in your life, like improving your tennis game!

And no, your Obama comments have not "struck a cord" with me - it was merely an opportunity to address an anonymous poster and to ask for more clarity and substance!

Captains...great job this year. Let's get ready to rumble!

Does anybody know if that is the only 3.5 wildcard?

    ReplyDelete
  114. Agree, there are just a few cheaters, but why have any?? It is not like this blog attacks 20 different players, there are a handful that cheat and it is not OK. The blog points out those few cheaters!!

    ReplyDelete
  115. The blog points out the opinnions of a few and those opinnions are based on what is read or personal beief and not acutal fact most of the time. Therefore those who read the blogs just assume the cheaters are cheaters.

    ReplyDelete
  116. the "handful" of individuals accused of cheating _ are really not cheating at all. they are just successful at attracting strong players to their team. very few individuals tank matches/manage scores. thats just mudslinging by lame losers. and 99% of players accused of being out of level are just at the high end of their level.

    ReplyDelete
  117. Cheaters are cheaters, call it anything you want.

I got your phone call, but have been swamped with work the last couple of days.

Long story short. - Banged up my ankle, so resting it until QT. Can't play this weekend. I think there is some challenge matches going on 2nite. You might want to get a feeler out with those guys that are playing 2nite.

    ReplyDelete
  120. I am not sure what all of the hype about lifetime winning the QT is. I just looked up there season records and they obviously dont have the singles to do any damage in city's anyway. There overall singles record was 10-6 not exactly stellar! The so called "great gerber" was 4-3, if you cannot sweep singles in the playoffs your road is really rough!

As far as doubles they were 18-6 not bad but far from great also. Eight of the 18 wins was from Arcaria and 7 out of those 8 are from Bennett.

Just doing a little prep work prior to the qt, but just not all that impressed.

    Thoughts?

    ReplyDelete
  121. I give them a real good shot if the heat isn't unbearable and Klamecki works on his over heads in practice this week!!!!!! Let me know if you want me to help you out, I need to get on the court and not run around, so could help out Marc.

Of course, we all know, wins and losses happen on the courts, not on the blog. Talk is cheap.

  129. Just heard no wildcards this year for Dallas 3.5. Wildcards go to Fort Worth and San Antonio. Texas Section wants to be sure that Dallas does not have 2 teams in the Sectional Finals again. That sucks!

    ReplyDelete
  130. how do other cities hear about w/c before we do?

    ReplyDelete
  131. I thought Austin had one. Where do you find this stuff out?

    ReplyDelete
  132. Info per Tosha. I had to talk with her about an NTRP issue and w/c came up. Some kinda of freaking lottery is done to determine w/c to Sectionals. Austin is getting a w/c for level 3.0 not 3.5.

    ReplyDelete
  133. THEY SHOULDNT LEAK THIS TYPE ON INFO. EVERYONE SHOULD BE TOLD AT THE SAME TIME.

    ReplyDelete
  134. The only bright spot is for any team that makes sectionals from Dallas, the quality of competition will be less with an additional FW and SA team. Better chance at Nationals!!

    ReplyDelete
  135. Jane Gilpin was informed about wildcards at the same time all league administrators were informed in other cities. But OTHER cities put the info out on their blog and/or sent emails to captains. I'm sure you will all hear soon.
    -Tosha

    ReplyDelete
  136. The Wild card is a downer,
Both Hufines and Garland are good enough to compete at Sectionals,

Looking at the Ft Worth league,
    Not so much

    ReplyDelete
  137. Huffines does not have the doubles to compete at lifetime. It should be embarrasing that they barely beat LTF 3-2.

    ReplyDelete
  138. Garland will beat both Huffines and LTF. They have the best team top to bottom.

But none of the these teams are close to as good as Garland 3.5 in 2008.

    ReplyDelete
  139. Yeh, last year Glen Flora was grossly out of level and yet guys like Nancy Noel tried to defend Garland. It was good to see that cheater DQed at Sectionals. This year I dont see anyone even close to as good as Flora in 3.5.

    ReplyDelete
  140. Garland has very good singles players not up to Flora's gm but very good still. Their doubles are much deeper then last years doubles. Sisk has many different pairings he can use and has not shown any of the ultimate lines he can put out.

    ReplyDelete
  141. With apologies to Huffines and LTF, GTC is definitely the team to beat.

    ReplyDelete
  142. based on what? how do you know?

    ReplyDelete
  143. seen all the top 3.5ers play and have played with a lot of em.

i'm not rooting for GTC - would like to see them lose but they have the best 3.5 team this year.

    ReplyDelete
  144. Who does Garland have that is so damn good? I have seen all of them and they are just good, nothing more nothing less.

Wickman is good but not great.
Fonseca is better than Wickman but nothing special. These guys are both old and just pushers. The heat will eat them alive.

Clark got beat with another Garland guy in a Brookhaven tournament and everyone says he is awesome; if Clark is the same guy playing that tournament then he is not awesome. I saw him at Brookhaven and he is not awesome. He is solid but nothing extraordinary.

Heath is someone I know very little about so I won't comment much but one of my Lifetime friends said they played against him and were unimpressed.

Hess is pretty good; he is a bump down. He is a top 3.5 but beatable.

Wiley is like Hess only alot weaker. He is solid but nothing great.

I am not even sure who else they have that would play.

    GTC is overrated

    ReplyDelete
  145. USTA Texas site shows 4 wildcards and 20 total teams.
Wildcards for Dallas, Ft. Worth, San Antonio, and Austin.

    ReplyDelete
  146. If ture, that is great news for Dallas. Where did you see it?

    ReplyDelete
  147. I just looked and under the schedule for 3.5 playoffs it shows a wild card dallas!

    ReplyDelete
  148. Great News for either GTC or Huffhines

    ReplyDelete
  149. Not sure about Garland but Huffines is not that good. They have 2 great singles players but their doubles can get swept very easily, GH and the QT winner (probably LTF) will each have a shot at it. If Garland is that good it is good news for all the Dallas teams that make Cities!

    ReplyDelete
  150. All matches for sectionals are at GH and LBH, with Semis and Finals at LBH.

    ReplyDelete
  151. Sweet,
I love LB Houston in the summer,
that will be great incentive to make it to sectionals and will represent Dallas well.

This will be the last year dallas hosts the sectionals.

    ReplyDelete
  152. Hey Anon 12:49 What the hell are you talking about Huffines doubles have not been swept all season. What makes you think they will now???? Another stupid comment by one of you ANONS. I think there doubles were 18-6.

    ReplyDelete
  153. Gtc is overrated. How can you say Wiley is weaker than Hess but a solid player? All teams in the post season are there because they are good!! HELLOOOOOOOOOO!If we get beat, I'm pulling for BIG D all the way! I wish everyone well. I have 10 cts again this Sunday and have Patrick Wire vs Jerry Defeo--- Bring the popcorn. Any team want to scrimmage?

    ReplyDelete
  154. Obviously their doubles were never swept you idiot, if they had they would have lost a match, but the competition is much tougher now and they almost got swept by LTF and an average line 3 doubles team. It is a strong possibility that Huffines could lose all 3 doubles lines!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  155. who cares if they lose all 3 doubles... they always have a puncher's chance there. It is not that easy to pull off wins in all 3 double lines! One of the 3 doubles from a "better" team can always choke against them.

    ReplyDelete
  156. Not saying they do not have a chance at all, they are 1 of the 4 best teams in my opinion, but to say it is Huffines or GTC is not the case.

    ReplyDelete
  157. Any of the top three fav's can win it! They are all close and have their weakness and strenghts. Bottom line the team who has a off day loses if everybody plays to potential then its a crap shoot.

    ReplyDelete
  158. Since 3.5 has a wildcard to Sectionals our top two teams go. Obviously GTC will be one. Likely Huffines will be the other.

    ReplyDelete

  160. LTF is just as good as GTC and Huffhines. It could be any 2 of the 3. We have all forgotten about Greenhill. They have Palacioz, Stein, Kayser and alot of other experienced guys.

    ReplyDelete
  161. Agree, I do not want to put LTF in the City Playoffs yet, but o fthe teams still playing there are 4 teams that have a shot at those 2 spots, and it could be any 2!! they are Huffines, GTC, LTF, and Greenhill. If LTF does make Cities there will good matches every time and the team that plays best will win!

    ReplyDelete
  162. bRoOkHaVeN!!!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  163. LTF, GTC, Huffines, Greenhill, and Brookhaven. The last on the list and only country clubbers are clearly the worst and don't deserve the spot in cities. What a waste.

    ReplyDelete
  164. QT Predictions

    LTF 4-0
    Westlake 3-1
    Fretz 2-2
    HP 1-3
    Lakes 0-4

Looking at the lineups, if LTF plays decent tennis I do not see any of these teams beating them. LTF will be on to the City Playoff!!

    ReplyDelete
  165. Ltf wins QT on the strength of doubles lines, if I were them I would be very worried about singles!

Westlake is still kind of a wild card to me, and have a good chance if ltf screws up.

Fretz could pull some upsets but cant win it.

    Highpoint same as above.

Lakes will not lose all 4 matches but will be hard pressed to finish in the top 3.

    Just one man's opinion.

    ReplyDelete
  166. Singles for LTF has struggled at times, but none of the teams in QT have that great of singles either. There are a couple solid players, but LTF should be OK at singles against these teams.

    ReplyDelete
  167. The Mighty Gerber will return to form these playoffs!! Mark it down!!

    ReplyDelete
  168. I dont think "the mighty gerber" is an authorized nickname, its either the great gerber or big ego gerber. Get it right!

Not sure which form he is returning to. The form he had against Riffert, Sillers or Yaremenko?

Talk is cheap, results are not!

    ReplyDelete
  169. Results, ok so Gerber is 13-3 in the last two seasons, not too shabby if you ask me.

He will win every match he plays in the playoffs, mark it down so I don't have to tell you I told you so next week. There may be more than you know next to those losses.

Funny thing is, when cheaters like Yaremenko or Jones lose, that's not a big deal right?

    ReplyDelete
  170. By the way, Yaremenko lost in doubles to Sillers as well, 1 & 1, playing along side with Reitzer. So what gives there? Either he's a consistant cheater and tanked that one obviously, or Sillers is a darn good player along with his partner.

    ReplyDelete
  171. Sillers can play really well. His partner has very good touch. Together they are the perfect combination for a good doubles team. I am not suprised they beat Reitzer/Yaremenko.

    ReplyDelete
  172. IM NEVER WRONG ABOUT THIS SHIT:
LTF will EASILY win the QT. None of the other teams are close. BIG EGO Gerber will win all his singles matches in the QT.

However, when you get to DCC, GTC is CLEARLY the best 3.5 team in Dallas. So DCC becomes a battle for 2nd place _ and the wildcard to Sectionals. That will be interesting but it will be either Huffines or Greenhill. Everyone else is just playing for fun and their season will soon be over.

    ReplyDelete
  173. Just remember that there will be 4/5 matches in DCC for each team to handle in one VERY HOT weekend!!! GTC is certainly a very good team, but again how would you know that unless DCC happens??? Even good teams and good players lose...
One thing for sure it will be a fun weekend at DCC!!!

    ReplyDelete
  174. Agree, Sisk is a better captain and better player than Ratcliffe or Kaiser. But still those two have put together two strong teams.

    ReplyDelete
  175. Captains are not about how good they are in tennis... Captains are about good leadership, recruiting, motivation, organization, and strategizing!!! Just because Sisk puts himself in a line up against a weaker team does not mean that he is a good player. Why doesn't he play in a line-up against LFT or huffines in DCC?

    ReplyDelete
  176. Hey brain surgeon, DCC has not even taken place so how do you know Sisk wont be in the lineup? There are many players on GTC and a good Captain will play all his players throughout the season even if its not his strongest lineup. When it comes to the final big match Sisk will put the best team forward with or without him playing. No captain will play there second best player at crunch time.Where does it say the captain is the best player and should play all the time?

    ReplyDelete
  177. John is a smart guy, a strong recruiter, and he runs his team well. Can't say the same for all the playoff captains.

    ReplyDelete
  178. Anon,
I only played three matches this season, ALL WERE CRUCIAL. Going into Westlake two undefeated teams, is that big enough? I am middle of the pack on my team. Highpoint only had one loss, and could have given our first. Sam Grand, stout players with lots of PRIDE.

    ReplyDelete
  179. OOOPS--- and against SG, if we lost 4-1, Westlake wins the flight and we are in QT.Crucial?

    ReplyDelete
  180. Not likely, big John, that anyone will beat your team 1-4 this side of Nats. But agree that you are a strong 3.5 player and have played in the big matches. Unlike Ratcliffe and Kaiser.

John teamed with the WORST player on the GTC 3.5 roster could easily beat Ratcliffe and Kaiser.

    ReplyDelete
  181. Sisk is the worst player on his team. He should clearly be a 4.0 player. So how does that work out for everone else?

    ReplyDelete
  182. Who cares how good a coach is at playing!! All these coaches have teams that are playing in the playoffs and should be commended. If you want to bag on coaches, how about the ones that are finished or their teams choked like CC.

    ReplyDelete
  183. everyone else needs to quit whining about garland/sisk

    ReplyDelete
  184. Thanks GTC Player. Why don't you shut the hell up! Your a bunch of cheats, the best team in 3.5 and 90% of the players are self rates?? That makes sense!

    ReplyDelete
  185. Some players on lessor teams always say the good teams cheat. Its the way it has always been. Bet those who complain do nothing about trying to modify USTA rules all they do is complain and throw out accusations.

    ReplyDelete
  186. To 2:18 july 7th poster, not sure how you can say that the great gerber will win all of his singles matches in the qt when he couldnt win all of his singles matches during regular season. From what I can tell the great gerber lost 2 of his 3 matches to non playoff team players, and then got killed by a good huffines player.

Its pretty tough for anyone to win all of there playoff singles matches in the heat. And even harder if you really are just a pretty good 3.5 player not some out of level super star.

    ReplyDelete
  187. Mr. 2:01 poster yesterday, as a fellow teammate of Sillers at DCC, please stop making excuses because he kicked your butt. Sillers is a great guy and a pretty good "doubles" player. He really has not buisness playing singles and never does, it was a fluke he played that one time cause someone else couldnt make it.

Oh by the way I have seen Reitzer play and anybody who loses to him should start playing raquetball because he is older than dirt and can barely move. Tennis just might not be your game.

    ReplyDelete
  188. Who is making excuses?? From what I read it states Silers is a good player and that is why he beat Gerber and Yaremenko (in doubles).

    ReplyDelete
  189. I could not agree more, how stoopid is the argument about the coaches not playing themselves in the playoffs. It is probably one of the crap teams trying to get a coach to put a lesser lineup out there from one of the contenders.

    ReplyDelete
  190. The poll for QT is a complete landslide! 5 teams and 1 team has 70% of the vote!!

    ReplyDelete
  191. Did Jane Gilpin every tell captains about Dallas having a wild card spot in sectionals? Does the DTA relay any information or do we need to always figure it out ourselves.

    What a joke.

    ReplyDelete
  192. I can understand Lifetime being favored to win the QT but not by the landslide that the poll shows. They've got the best doubles line in Dallas 3.5 with Arcaria/Bennett, but the rest of their team can be beat. Their singles players, Gerber, Abadzic, Demets..., and Klamecki are very good but they're not lights out. Westlake could easily take LTF. Bedford, Eddie Johnson, and Haley are very underrated at singles and could conceivable beat any of the LTF singles guys. And a couple of Westlakes doubles could surprise.

Fretz has a lights out singles player in Yaun Chen, and a couple good doubles lines that could also surprise LTF in the first game. The HP vs LTF match might be close, but HP doesn't have any singles players that can beat any of LTF's singles. HP has a couple good doubles lines, so at best they might win a line or two of doubles against LTF. Don't know much about Lakes, but from what I can see, LTF shouldn't have a problem with them.

So LTF should win the QT - but don't give them their pass to DCC just yet.

    ReplyDelete
  193. I don't know who the anon above is,
But, go smoke your crack pipe and leave this to the Pros.

There is noway anybody from Fretz or Westlake can beat Klamecki

    ReplyDelete
  194. I love having the anons back. Anons are the heart and soul of the blog!

    ReplyDelete
  195. It's going to be so peaceful on the blog next week when LTF gets eliminated from the QT. All the blow hard LTFers will be too busy crying and pouting to post. I can't wait.

    ReplyDelete
  196. yeah, what heart and soul?

About 10 anons are on this 3.5 blog, talking to each other... No one else reads it or bothers to post anything because all that this blog became is a stupid channel for bitching, ego boosting, and baseless accusations... Oh, WOW! What a pitiful heart and soul!!!

    ReplyDelete
  197. Well said! I concur!

    ReplyDelete
  198. Hey 12:52 Anon, what are you basing the Klamecki boast on? His one win at singles this year? - which was against a guy that lost almost all of his singles matches? Bert Bedford had a very good singles record and even beat one of GTC's self-rated ringers. Eddie Johnson lost only 1 singles match. And Donnie Davis played another one of GTC's self-raters to a very close match.

IMHO Westlake splits singles with LTF. And I wouldn't be totally surprised if they take both lines with the right match-ups.

    ReplyDelete
