3.5 Fall Playoffs

So looks like the drama is done and the 3.5 playoffs are set.

Blue Flight: Greenhill, Brookhaven and Samuell Grand

Longshot: Samuell Grand (Odds: 30 t o 1)
The mystery team. I would like the join the SG bandwagon but I can’t do it quite yet. Maybe once I watch them play if I get a chance they will change my mind but as of now I just don’t see them making it out of this flight. They will be a team like Oakridge that will use this season as a stepping stone to a strong Spring because I don’t think they will lose any players.

Could win, but probably won't: Greenhill (Odds 10 to 1)
This team did not add anything to cover their losses to Super senior sectionals and it will hurt them more than Westlake. Jensen may be a darkhorse that can help Sims at singles. John is solid but is not automatic point in singles at this playoff level. I bet against them last fall and they proved me wrong but they rely on doubles and they will be missing Newman, Leopard and Ridgley which are guys that got them wins last Fall in the playoffs.

Favorite to win this flight: Brookhaven (Odds 4 to 1)
Cline is back, back again, tell a friend. Sorry I digressed into Eminem lyrics, I should remember by target audience at 3.5 has an average age of 65. I think John’s team has a good shot with Cline in the mix because they have solid doubles teams that can find some more wins after Cline gets his point. I would love to see them match up with Westlake on Sunday. This core group of guys has had success but never put it together and I hope Kraemer can make it happen for them and get them all bumped to 4.0 so we can get some more cannon fodder for the Spring. :)

Red Flight: Westlake, CC/Lenehan and CC/Jolly

Longshot: CC/Lenehan (Odds 50 to 1)
I don’t see them finishing anything but last in this flight. I love McHugh’s record and he could even beat Harvey but I don’t see two other wins they could come up with. Although with a player like Robert at the top it can start an upset bid but at best they finish 1-1 and wouldn't do well in a tie situation since they most likely will win 3-2 at best.

Could win but probably won't: CC/Jolly (Odds 15 to 1)
I have tried jumping on their bandwagon before because these are some good guys and I like their talent level because they are a very solid team with good doubles players that compete well even at the 4.0 level. Their struggle will be at singles but I would advise sticking with Brownlee and Retizer and maybe Jolly in singles and going after the doubles with big performers like Parten, Stone x 2, Plummer and Frame.

Strong favorite: Westlake (Odds: EVEN)
This team is pretty solid and added some insurance with Sisk and Vandifer to boost their odds in this flight and also in the final. I do not think they are unbeatable by any means but they have enough strong players to be the favorite. Their match with team Jolly will be tough especially without Norm, Lanny and Robert Haney. John and Danny jumped on late but they will need to step up along with Eddie Johnson because Harvey can only get one win per match.

Final: Brookhaven v. Westlake

Prediction: 3-2 win for Westlake
If this is the final I think it will come down to Cline v. Harvey.
Winner gets the prize no pressure guys but that is why these teams wanted you in the first place.

  1. Red flight odds pretty accurate.
Blue flight underestimates SG and overestimates Brookhaven.
    5:1 Greenhill
    10:1 SG
    15:1 Brookhaven

  2. SG hasn't beaten anyone good yet, Oakridge is a shell of its former self and who do they have in singles that can compete with the top players?

  3. Somehow, some way, that SG team made it into the playoffs. Just like I thought though, their luck seems to have run out. Did you see how they looked dominating early on, then faded at the end? I think they played in the weakest flight of the 3, so look for whoever they play first to easily squash them.

Yes, I'm a registered SG hater! We shall see next week!

  4. They shouldn't even allow Sam Grand into the league. It is a real pisser to drive down there. Plus you need to carry a handgun for you own safety and take out extra insurance on your car.

If Sam grand wants to play in the spring they should be required to play all away matches.

    no shit!

  5. Talk about interesting. Greenhill has not only their capt. at Sr. Sectionals, but 4 of their winning doubles players. If correct that leaves him with 8 players. Even Westlake has the loss of 3 major players that will be at Sr. Sectionals. Interesting in that this is 1st place & 2nd place teams in this flight and these are over 60s players who got them there. I think it will be uphill for Westlake, but make it to the finals & Brookhaven taking them in the finals. They have the team that got them there in tack. Not a fan of Brookhaven & really don't understand why they got into the mix, but they did.

  6. I wonder why we could not have had our fall playoffs one weekend earlier so that our age 60 guys could have played. They are key players for both Greenhill and Westlake.

The playoffs will be much different without those guys

  7. McHugh can beat Harvey? This time, it won't be close.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Nobody will beat Harvey in the playoffs. One automatic line for Westlake.

    ReplyDelete
  9. yea, i agree. you would think the dta could be competent enough to read a calendar and avoid conflicts with sectional championships.

  10. It is at least as annoying to be on a weekend that many people take vacation.

  11. To all Samuel doubters, they beat Canyon Creek 4-1 and Oak Ridge 5-0 even though all the matches were close. Dont be suprised if pull the upset in this bracket.Their singles players are both very good and all doubles teams are pretty strong. Good Luck too them. Samuel Grand is no worse than garland tennis center as far as bad area is concerned. As far as Oak Ridge is concerned they just missed the playoffs because of lost 3rd set tie-breaks.

  12. Personally I think all matches should during the season in 3.5 should be played at Lifetime! That way all of the MILF's can watch and even when the tennis players lose they can chill poolside and listen to some tunes and check out the bikini's!

  13. Samuell Grand is ten times worse than GTC. I have played at Garland 100 times and not had one incident (oh wait, there was that drive-by shooting). But I here from players weekly about their cars getting broken into out there regularly. I ran a tournament out there once and the city had to provide a security guard for the whole tournament.

    ReplyDelete
  14. I've never been to GTC nor even know where it is but I have been to Samuell Grand and I can't imagine that GTC is that rough.

  15. nancy is right on this one. sam grand is much much worse than garlard. sam grand makes garland look like flushing meadow, ny

  16. You guys are horrible, really, wake up. I am a white female, live in Lakewood, and go to Samuel Grand two or three times a week. I drive a new BMW that has never been touched in the parking lot. I've never heard a gun shot and never felt unsafe.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Jessica must be BUTT ugly. Even the SG people leave her alone. Keep going in your fancy BMW however, and odds will eventually catch up to you. Just hope you don't break down after a match when it's dark out.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Or perhaps that's why she keeps going, hoping to get a little action.....

    ReplyDelete
  19. I had Jessica once. Cost $10 and I overpaid.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Jessica may be pompous with her BMW comment but those comments were unnecessary. I am glad she has never had an issue but if she does not think that is a rough area, she is quite naive.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Since when do women get on this blog? After reading the follow-up comments I can see why they don't. You are obviously playing out there in the morning Jessica when the criminals are asleep. My boss used to teach out there and he would have to park inside the actual fenced-in area and he also had a brick thrown onto his court during a group lesson once.

  22. Harvey-Reitzer should be a good split set exibition of Ginsu artistry.

    ReplyDelete
  23. You guys are all so brave posting as 'Anonymous.' Some of your comments are very racist. Maybe that's why you are hiding.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Then talk about tennis.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Hey Wiley, don't worry about GTC, if and when you make it out there, big John will have your back, perhaps literally.....

    ReplyDelete
  26. Hey Jessica, i told you already to get your close off and get back in bed, and quit talking thats when you sound stupid!

  27. I played in a tournament at S.G. once and they found a lady's head in the bushes. True story that happened in the late '70's. The place is even more rough now.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I am the wife of a league player and my husband comments on this blog from time to time. I read the comments but do have not posted any comments before.

Jessica, I think you are arrogant and obnoxious. Start up a women's website if you want. But allow the guys to chat about their league activity w/o hearing from you. I really don't think anoyone wants to hear your opinions on Men's League.

  29. Thank you Jessica. I've been playing at SG regularly for about a year now and I have never heard gunshots and never had my car broken into. And I haven't heard about any problems experienced by any the 4 teams who played matches at SG this season, although I'm sure none of them were happy about losing.

    ReplyDelete
  30. There are always families with kids of all ages at SG playing tennis, volleyball, basketball, karate, etc. When playing tennis, I always see lots of folks walking or jogging through the park, kicking a soccer ball, playing football, etc. There is a visible police and security presence after dark. Get real.

Anyone who believes there haven't been some disgustingly racist and sexist comments in this post alone not to mention prior posts is "either blind or stupid."

    ReplyDelete
  31. I'm not a racist, I voted for Obama. But Jessica is a pompous big mouth who likes to hear herself talk. Scott is a moran.

Sam Grand sucks. So does Jessica.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Guys come on. did i miss anything? I don't think we really discriminate against women here do we?

I think many of those comments were unnecessary to her. YOu should be better than that. Just cause you can post anonymous does not mean you have the right to be ugly to anyone, especially a female.

I do agree, Jessica is misguided about Samuel Grand. And yes, she probably played at 9 am in the morning when the criminals were asleep. But, we still have to show respect, as men.

    ReplyDelete
  33. It is good to hear Big John has my back. I don't know how tough Sisk is but I know I am tougher with him than without.

Truthfully, I am not too scared of GTC or even SG. I grew up in an area pretty comparable to Garland (and I don't mean the Firewheel area, more like the area southof downtown Garland). I still think SG's surrounding area is pretty darn rough. I am unsure why it is racist when you say it is a rough area while you observe an inordinately high population of homeless people and every establishment as well as most homes with very conspicuous bars in their windows.

Also, I think we can be a bit more respectful of Jessica. On the other hand. I agree that the 'new BMW' comment was a bit pretentious. I am unsure what the relevance of her car or her address may be. If I drive a '73 Gremlin (popular car at my old high school since nobody could afford a Smokey and the Bandit TA)and it gets burglarized, it is still burglarized. I am happy that she has never had an incident but that does not take away from the fact that the SG area is high crime.

  34. Greg,
I do have your back,if you ever make it to gtc....I hope you get to feeling better!!!!Corey see you Sunday!
    Sisk

  35. Jessica and I will take on you and Wiley John. I don't know who Jessica is but I'm confident we can win. Otherwise, you and I will take somebody else out on Sunday Sisk.

    ReplyDelete
  36. When can John and I get a piece of Corey and Jessica? If you guys beat us, we have to eat a salad.

    ReplyDelete
  37. John's the organizer. He can set it up.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Corey/John, all we need is Jessica to agree. I am not sure who Jessica is but she gets the best player for a partner.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I prefer to hear from Jessica over that Getz guy. Besides she lives here and if she hangs out around the S.G. district, well that's the kind of lady I want to know.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I slept with a girl named Jessica who played out of the S.G area a few months back. I wonder if this one is the same.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Wow, there are some very interesting posts on here. Where to begin... Ok, first off, it seems there are some bitter feelings toward SG's team. Could it be because they had a productive season and made the playoffs? Who knows how they will do against the other teams, but at least they are not on the outside looking in, right? Tell me if I'm missing something here.

Regarding Jessica...I find it flattering that a woman would take the time to read most of these insane posts. I wouldn't jump the gun and assume she's ugly. Gotta stay positive fellas. Perhaps she's a "7" and has some cute friends to boot! Jessica, your thoughts??

Oh, and one more thing about Jessica. Some of you guys have called her pretentious and all that, but think about it - if she was really that "elite", wouldn't she be playing at Lakewood CC instead of SG? It IS rather pricey over there...

Now, back to tennis... I was wondering... does anyone think any of the teams will stack their lines in order to secure certain victories? I have a feeling that will happen this weekend. Its sad but true...

Everyone talks about the singles players, but noone ever mentions the 3 lines of doubles. Which teams have strong doubles lines, and which ones suck?

Thanks guys...keep bloggin! And Jessica, attach your photo so we don't have to wonder anymore...

    ReplyDelete
  42. Then again being from S.G. Jessica is most likely a 7' tall Neanderthal gal.

    ReplyDelete
  43. I don't see anyone ripping on SG's team or even the facility. It is the surrounding area that people think is dangerous.

    ReplyDelete
  44. If Jessica is who I think it is, she is a real porker with a big mouth

    ReplyDelete
  45. If Jessica is all 3.5 can talk about, I guess this blog is done until the results this weekend become known. Good try 9:39 AM, but I guess the doubles guys have nothing to add.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Are all of the 3.5 matches this weekend at Brookhaven?

    ReplyDelete
  47. Where's Jessica? It's too quiet on this blog!

    ReplyDelete
  48. Jessica's in the hospital. She got mugged in the Samuel Grand parking lot and her BMW is missing.

    ReplyDelete
  49. They found her BMW. DriveTime Auto Credit took it back.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Come on guys, stop making fun of me.

    Jessica

    ReplyDelete
  51. I'm not making fun of you; but you could have taken the Sisk/Wiley vs Noel/Jessica challenge. Sisk and I gave you the best player (easily thebest player) of the four. If you are the best, then you guys should rock us.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Come on Greg. Tell me you didn't think that was actually her. She has probably quit getting on here like so many people who were looking for a place to talk about tennis. This doesn't fit that description 90 percent of the time.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Greenhill beat SG 3-2, got all the doubles.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Westlake beat CC Jolly 5-0, though 3 of the lines went to a 3rd set tie-break.

    ReplyDelete
  55. According to tennis link, end of season ratings have a tentative release date of Dec. 1. Time to see if that tanking and sandbagging paid off.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Brookhaven/Kraemer win 3-2
    CC - Linenhan win 4-1

    ReplyDelete
  57. Yes Coredawg that actully was me. I just wanted to talk about tennis, not really play it. Soooo, I'm going to pass on your invites.

    Jessica

    ReplyDelete
  58. Corey, I did not really think it was her. I am just playing around and don't want any bad feelings with anyone on this blog. The stuff I have written onthis thread are the most inflammatory things I will ever write. Also, congratulations on a very good year.

I will try ot find someone else for you to partner with against John and myself.

    ReplyDelete
  59. My boyfriend is going to be moved up to 4.0, because he went undefeated this season. Talk to you losers later!! I'm going to see how many people I can piss off in the 4.0 blog now.

    ReplyDelete
  60. If Jessica is on the up and up, I would guess she's Jed Dolson's girlfriend.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Piss off? No.. Annoy? Only slightly. Make a joke of yourself? In abundance.
