Weekend League Results

So results are starting to roll in. In our MOW at 3.5 Rob Mchugh and CC beat Oakridge to send them to 2-2 and in jeopardy of missing the playoffs. Westlake also scored a strong win over OC which has them in a similar spot of missing the playoffs this season. I know it is possible to get in with two losses but things have to roll your way.

In 4.5 Corey's team stayed undefeated but it looked like a close one. Greenhill also has a huge hill if they want to stay with the leaders. Unfortunately for them they seem to start the season well and fade off as the season progresses. High Point/Pham fell from the ranks of the unbeaten in our 4.5 MOW as ....................the LAKES won 3-2. Who hatin' on the Lakes now?? Corey don't talk about them too muh you might just see them come November.

I am ready for tomorrow. I might actually have to play so....Right now mexican food and cabernet is calling my name.

  1. Corey jinxed HP, he might as well not get into predictions from now on.

    ReplyDelete
  2. Maybe I wanted to jinx them. I would rather play the Lakes anyday. I'm still shocked though. That flight is wide open now, or maybe OC Feldman and Royal Oaks will repeat last season's success.

  3. Just looked at the results. That is a very strange lineup for HP. I'm not sure if they took the Lakes lightly or that was all they had available. I can't imagine Steven volunteering to play singles, am I right? Keith, thoughts?
By the way, HP is still ahead of the Lakes but HP has their three toughest weeks in a row at the end of the season.

  4. High Point through out a strong 4.0 lineup...they had a grand total of 2 4.5 players in their lineup (1/2 of the line 1 doubles and 1/2 of the line 2 doubles).

    ReplyDelete
  5. you just have to give kudos to Lakes, they bounced right back after their narrow loss last week.

    ReplyDelete
  6. That's really not true, except Doug S. all other players are 4.5.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Did you notice that Ken Loose played singles and took out Frank Vo...nice win. I think he must have drawn the singles short straw and came up with a win.

    ReplyDelete
  8. High Point fielded a bunch of 4.0 guys that recently got bumped to 4.5...not sure how many appealed. They might think about appealing if they haven't...

    ReplyDelete
  9. HP would have been better off putting Pickett at singles. I'm sure they were hurting for players today. A bunch of 4.0 bump ups in the lineup. I will be interested to see who they play against Royal Oaks.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Lakes a narrow loss?? Royal Oaks defaulted a line and still won.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Well then that makes the Lakes look bad and HP look really bad.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Well the two bumped up 4.0 guys Joel & Hai, beat the perennial 4.5 pair from Lakes handily. And Rasor is a solid 4.5. Try playing them before you jump too soon and call for their appeals...

    ReplyDelete
  13. 3-2 is narrow. a default by RO doesn't make it 4-1 which I would agree is not narrow.

    ReplyDelete
  14. As someone said last week, all teams in Flight B are pretty even. Any of these four teams HP, RO, Feldman, Lakes, can make it to the playoffs.

    ReplyDelete
  15. I'm not sure what you mean by perennial pair...does that mean you think they are upper level 4.5 guys?

Regarding the Lakes, they have a few strong lines - especially Hans who looks like a legit 5.0 player

    ReplyDelete
  16. just solid 4.5 players for several years.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Hans is not a 5.0 player, he is just a very strong 4.5 player, just like many players in Branch's team and Nancy's team. The combination of Oberg and Pollack is what makes that line strong.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I agree, how does winning 4 and 4, against a recently bumped 4.0 player, make Hans a Legit 5.0 player? Such a ludicrous claim.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Joel and Hai beating Way and Morgan isn't a surprise. All 4 are strong and pretty even matchup despite Way and Morgan being 4.5s for a year or so. Hans and Scott are great pairing style wise so that is why they are having such success. The big win was in singles with McCarley getting a tough 3rd set win. I cant remember the last time seeing Brand playing singles. Thats where this match was won. Good job Brand.

    Way to go Lakes!

  20. Rocketman,

I couldn't agree more. I was just trying to make a point that Joel and Hai (and a lot of the recently bumped up 4.0 players like Rasor) are very good players even in 4.5 and there is no need to throw them all under the bus and demote them to 4.0 ranking like one of the anons was suggesting.

Also, you are right on, Brand's line made the difference. I do not remember the last time Keller had a loss, and that Brand played singles. Very impressive win.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Nancy did not play but Northwood continues to roll. 5 - 0 and looking good.

    ReplyDelete
  22. It's about time Joel stepped up to play the big boys. I've always told him he would be a better 4.5 than 4.0. By the way, besides Smith, he always plays with a Pham or Nguyen.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I'm impressed with team Nancy. Keep it rolling Noel.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Uh, I think Keller just lost last week, if my memory serves. Thanks for the kudos. Northwood Nancies will continue to roll.

    ReplyDelete
  25. No,the combination of Hans and anybody else on that team makes that line strong; Pollack: not that impressive. Hans is a 5.0, but everybody has a 5.0 on their 4.5 team, and everyone knows it.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Royal Oaks cruised 5-0 and noticed they added a few players, including a Russian to replace Gonzalez. Should be interesting as he falls within the guidelines of 4.5 due to being a JUCO player.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Nothing will really be decided in that flight until the last two weeks as all the top teams play each other then for the most part.

    ReplyDelete
  28. To better gauge Oberg's actual rating, you have to look at Pollack's results before and after Oberg (and watch Oberg play).

However, the only true test will be late this year when year-end ratings come out.

  29. Brookhaven vs Fretz (Men’s 3.5, Flight A)

    Brookhaven won, 5 - 0.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Lifetime 3.5 won Lifetime 4.0 rolled.

3.5 has a great match up next week v Brookhaven. should be a GREAT match. Can the other LTF be the Brookhaven Nemisis again? hmmmm.

4.0 Did well, Vijay had a chance at his line, but that line gave it away in the second set. Ouch. I actually felt bad for Vijay. I would be REALLY REALLY pissed if that I had given away my 2nd set like that. Brandon and Eric did step up there play though, so it was not quite a meltdown, but still. Would proly take me 3 days before I could get a decent nights sleep. 5-2, and lose the set 5-7. Tough Luck Vijay. I feel for you.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Actually that line was up 5 0 and lost the set.

    ReplyDelete
  32. So most of the pollsters were wrong this week as the 4.5 and 4.0 matches did not go as thought with the Lakes and OC scoring wins. I was shocked by the Garland loss but not by the Lakes win. I guess OC is for real. Dammit I was really hoping I wouldn't have to go scout them, see on the sidelines OC guys.

We had a little schedule snafu but still snuck by today. We had hoped to get 4 or 5 today but Hans is a tough player. Our flight although Eddie labeled them sub par each team we have faced has solid singles even the team like CC today who has one win and JCC last week have guys who could play singles on just about any roster out there in our league.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Nice Win OC... I was surprised by that win as well. Good Job. You officially are off the Rodney Dangerfield list.

    ReplyDelete
  34. HOLY COW!!! 5 game is all that seperates TBar M and The Lakes right now. T Bar M is going to have to put a BIG Whooping on Bartlett in order to make it

    ReplyDelete
  35. OC/Garland Summary

OC takes 4 out of 5 first sets and hangs on to win line 1 and 2 doubles in straight sets to go up 2-0. Garland comes back to win the 2nd sets and subsequent tie breakers in line 1 singles and line 1 doubles taking the match to a 2-2 tie. In the deciding match (line 2 singles), Garland wins 1st set 6-4 and then loses the 2nd 4-6. With not only the match and first place in the division on the line, OC wins the 3rd set tiebreak 10-8 to hang on for the team victory. I think this match proves the old saying of "It ain't over til it's over". Good tennis today.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Cary,

As always your picks are off. Lifetime won 5-0 and did not drop a set vs Garland. Lifetime is coming into form and added a another very good player.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I would sort of like to congratulate Garland/Sisk 2 on finally winning a line during a match this past weekend. I was going too that is until I saw it was Phil Key beating Kyle Rhodes 6-0,6-3. Now I am sorry but I have seen both of these guys play several times and Kyle Rhodes is way way too good to lose to Phil. Something fishy went on here. Did Kyle have a broken arm or something?

    ReplyDelete
  38. Kyle Rhodes lost to Phil Key? WTF???? Sisk will not be called out for sandbagging players on this one. Someone should be called out and it ain't Sisk.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I don't think Kyle cares enough about the grand scheme of 4.0 league tennis to tank/sandbag/throw a match. He's just trying to get some matches in. My guess would be:

A: His opponent's style of play frustrated him and he imploded and made a bunch of errors.
B: He was hung over from Sat night.
C: He was in a hurry to catch the Cowboys game.
D: SMU sorority girls where hazing the new pledges with a game of twister next to his court.
E: Put your hands together...all of the above.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I disagree. It is just as fast to beat Key as it is to lose to him. If he were hung over, it still would not matter.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Seriously if their dynamic ratings were exposed Key is probably 3.99 and Rhodes is a 4.48.

If they played 100 sets I would be shocked if someone told me Phil was able to grab 100 games off Kyle.

    ReplyDelete
  42. so kyle would be a top 4.5?

    wow.....

    ReplyDelete
  43. Kyle is a good 4.0 and Key is a good 3.5.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Key is NOT a good 3.5. He is average at best.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Where did anyone say Kyle would be a top 4.5? Kyle played 4.5 in the spring and did not fare all that great, but a top 15 4.0 he is.

    ReplyDelete
  46. How many Bagels does TBarM hand out to El Dorado, just in case they feel like they have a chance to sneak in there if they kill Bartlett like Weatherby did?

I predict their will be 4 bagels dished out somewhere against El Dorado. Could be on the same line, could be spread out. My prediction is 4 bagels.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Kyle Rhodes is top 10 and possibly top 5. Strange result indeed but he hadn't played all that much so maybe that had something to do with. He used to play 3.0 and I remember him in 3.5 and 4.0 against teams I played on. He is very solid but I haven't seen him play in over two years.

I love that an anon exclaimed that he was right. But yet we don't know who the hell he is. Just when I think I might understand the anons they go and say something stupid.

    ReplyDelete
  48. TBar doesn't have many bagel servers on their team do they?

    ReplyDelete
  49. What's the deal with the Brookhaven/Hackberry match from Saturday in 4.5? Isn't there supposed to be a 12-hour rule on posting scores? My guess would be that Brookhaven won bc I don't think Larry is the most Internet savvy. If Hackberry won I think they would have posted already.

    ReplyDelete
  50. I am 100 right on all my predictions. I'll be happy to tell you whatever you want to know and then some. In the unlikely event I should even make a bad prediction, I will happily reveal my identity.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Cary. Quit all the idle chit chatting and put out this weeks predictions so we can separate the division talk. You never put out your mid-season rankings either. Some anon did (Eddie I'm sure), but you did not. I like Eddie, but he is too Lifetime slanted and can't see beyond that. Give us your picks.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Here is an overview for you. 4.0

Flight A stinks...Except for HP/Looping Backhand Pirate. They have a real chance to end up in the city Final

Flight B is solid. OC is for real and HP/Butt is good. Sorry Dirty Garand. You can watch the DCC on TV. or maybe not.

Flight C is the best flight. B-haven may be just good enough to hold on. Lifetime is very good and getting better. Sorry EA

Flight D is not even worth a conversation. Lakes and Greenville finish 5 & 6 in Flight C.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Flight C, the strongest, pleaaaase. I'd have to contend it is the weakest.

That BH team, didn't make the playoffs the last season, and the previous two, didn't even make it past the round robin. And then the #3 team EL gets beaten by BH 0-5. This is as weak as it can get. Let's just say, LT just got a free ride this season.

Flight D has the most competition, Flight B next, Flight A after that, and Flight C is the weakest.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Corey - I just heard Hackberry won the 4.5 match vs Brookhaven 3-2.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Carey @ 9:44,

That was one anon and he is still in training. His post will only get better as time goes on. So don't go hate'n all anons.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Flight D stinks. Bad competition does not make a flight good. When you have 5 bad evenly matched teams. You still just have 5 bad teams. None of those teams will win a match a DCC. Brookhaven and Lifetime (both from C) will play in the final. Only way that does not happen is because HP/Baz knocks off Brookhaven and then loses to LTF in the Final.

    ReplyDelete
  57. BH in the final, they are not going past round robin, again. Just because LT lost to BH, does not make it a good team. LT will face real competition in the playoffs and will fold miserably, proving flight C stinks more than others.

    ReplyDelete
  58. no way 7:16 anon
4.5 BH beat Hackberry 4-1. Don't know why Harlee has not entered the scores yet

    ReplyDelete
  59. midseason ratings? Hmm. I will be honest it would just be a shot in the dark. I think the top 10 teams are actually pretty even as is most of our leage. Don't hate on Flight D they are pretty solid both the Lakes and TBar have shown they are willing to add 50 players until they like what they have got on the court. I will say it again although the anons and Eddie probably won't care but to me I would rather play in a flight like A or C where there is some tough teams and some not so good teams as opposed to playing in flight D where every team is slightly above average or better. It is hard to stay "up" every week or like us last week have a mix up and not have enough players, in our flight it didn't hurt us but I bet if we had to default against Stonebridge or Greenhill we wouldn't have been so lucky. I still think that Eldorado team in that flight is pretty good and our 2nd team actually beat them and OC BL's crews is pretty good even though they never found the right lineups.
