USTA Tourney Sectionals

So I will be honest I haven't combed these draws all that well. I just looked at them now when Noaman told me he beat John Blackwell 6-3, 6-1 to move onto the 2nd round.

4.0 is a monster draw in doubles and singles with all the big names making their way down.

Any thoughts on favs and post some results that you all know when they start rolling in.

  1. Looking backhand Pirate wins 4.0 sectional Draw!

  2. Why did Robinson/Brouer skip sectionals? They would have been the #1 seed. Are they just playing 4.5 now?

  3. Thet are too busy tanking matches so they can play 4.0 next year.

  4. Brouer/robinson have a good record in 4.5. 4-1.

  5. Steven and Keith didn't need to play Sectionals to make the top 8 masters tournament. That is the goal of most tournament players I would say, so why make the 5-hour drive if they have already accomplished that.
My teammate Trey McKinney has a ridiculously easy path to the quarters in 4.5 and should rack up huge points. Good luck. 4.5 draw was really decimated by rescheduling and withdrawals.

  6. We just didn't feel like driving to San Antonio. I'm not tanking matches yet, but I'll get back to 4.0 somehow. Bob will find a way. I'll self rate as Brian Robinson.

  8. Thanks Brian. We miss having you and Steven out at practice. We will probably see you guys in the playoffs. Have you ever been on a team that wasn't in the playoffs? :) You all are 17-3 and we are 21-2, should be a good match if it happens.

  10. JD Miles withdrew so Trey now has two relatively easy matches to get to the semifinals.

  11. For the tourney neophyte (i havent played a tourney since my college days 20 yrs ago), what are the best tourneys during the year in the Dallas/FT Worth area to test your mettle against the best players in 4.0. I have 3 young kids under 12 so i cant travel and dedicate my time to tourneys but would like to get a feel for how i would stack up in singles outside of league play. Love some blog suggestions.

  12. I would say the best is the Cotton Bowl in December by far. The Fort Worth Major Zone is probably a little better competition but it is more than 10 months away. Any Brookhaven tournament has solid competition, but the top players in the state only come out for the major zones.

  13. Wow, what a lovefest b/w Keith and Nancy.

  14. If you like doubles the Brookhaven indoor tourney in February is a good one.

  15. McKinney out in the quarters. Not bad for first 4.5 major.

  16. Who would have thought Sectionals draw would be worse than Abilene...

The thing is the draw wasn't very good even before the postponement.

  17. I thought i had an easy draw but I had to drop out anyway. Turns out the guy I would have played 8 a.m. Friday beat Scott Sevin today and is in the semis. Glad I didn't go.
This reiterates my idea that points in tournaments should be based on the size of the draw. Houston is always the toughest tournament every year, with sometimes more than 128 players in some draws.

  18. HOW DID THAT 3.5 GETZ GUY DO IN SAN ANTONIO???

The new iron Man Scott Blackburn also kicked buttin Singles and Doubles all the way to the Semis in both as well as in Mixed Doubles. Wow, super impressed.

  21. No shame in losing to Scott Blackburn. He is playing great as evidenced by his tourmament performance, not only in singles, but also doubles. Kudos to Scott. Mike Getz

  23. Okay, I woke up long enough to visit your fair city to play in 6.5 combo sectionals. I will have to say that the tennis facilities in Dallas that we played at were outstanding. Played at T Bar M and Greenhill School and they were great. Liked it so much I might have to move to Dallas. I am sure all the anons would love that. Mike Getz
