4.5 Week 7

Flight A
So Rusty is keeping us waiting but in the meantime Corey Noel kept true to his promise and won 4-1 and Brookhaven also scored a big win to stay in 2nd place. Looks like these two are the favorites and we will see if Branch can climb back into it.

Interesting match is Branch v. Branch Lite (Diet Branch, Old Branch, Ex-Branches, Twigs, Broken Limbs) I see a 5-0 win for the big boys here but wouldn't be shocked with a closer score.

Hackberry has a stay alive match v. OC/Bovermann and they could use a convincing win if they want to stay in the discussion.

Flight B
Royal Oaks and OC Feldman posted strong results this weekend to all but end the playoff hopes of the TBars and the upstart Lakes crew. High Point also had a strong 5-0 sweep of Eldorado but this week will have to show up big in our 4.5 MOW v. Royal Oaks. OC/Feldman has a chance to post a big number over that same Eldorado team before they face off with RO and High Point in the next couple of weeks.

  1. Royal Oaks will destroy High Point this week. HP will be lucky to get 1 line off of them.

  2. Royal Oaks has the ringer of the year on their team and no one has mentioned anything about this. Dimitry Kaforin.

Has anyone noticed the 18 year old Russian who just self rated 4.5 while playing # 1 for Collin County. He played the JR ITF Circuit for a JR. World Ranking while in Russia, but some-how he has come to America and see's himself as a 4.5 tennis player.

I get it that Collin County is legal, but i would be interested to see how his Jr. Record is percieved since he is only 18 years old. Just don't know the rules or how it applies to this sitaution.

Interesting on this blog, how everyone is bagging on Corey for trying to win the fall, but no one is saying anything about RO's and how they are adding a Junior ITF Player who is currently 18 years old and flying under the radar as a self rate.

Interesting how the USTA rating process works when the player did not grow up in the US, but played in Russia. I don't think the Self-Rate covers that.

    HMMMMM

  4. Where is AR Hacker when you need him. Where are you SUPER MAN.

    He will know the answer.

  5. Collin County is the best at getting top foreign players before they move on to D1 or D2 schools in America. They are currently ranked 3 in the nation and the top of their lineup is always D1 material. If this guys is near the top of CC and a foriegn junior - you can mark it down - Royal Oaks starts off every match 1-0, even at nationals.

  6. Someone needs to Rocky IV him

    ReplyDelete
  7. If you ain't cheating, you ain't competing. I guess that is what the leagues have turned in to. Very sad.

    ReplyDelete
  8. People should quit posting without getting their facts straight. He played at Colin Country last year -- but he played #5. Check it out at collegetennisonline.

    ReplyDelete
  9. so exactly where is that incredibly high ranking?

    http://www.itftennis.com/juniors/players/player.asp?player=100076959

He falls in the guidelines that USTA has set, so not sure why the fuss. If they are going to allow active D1 players then a JUCO player should be nothing.

    ReplyDelete
  10. "Someone needs to Rocky IV" him?

Turn him into a really crappy movie? Require one of us to play him in Mother Russia where the crowd will chant our guys name?

    ReplyDelete
  11. This is what drives me crazy about 4.5, its not the better players who are the problem...in fact I welcome the competition! I like playing 4.5 league instead of 5.0 or 5.5 because I get to play now! Did that ever occur to you whiners?
Some of us just want to have an outlet to play, maybe we are pros or former D-1 players, but it is nice to get to play weekly! Just a new person for you to complain about, just like Maingot at Sectionals...I'll tell you what you should do about it...suck it up and come out swinging!

  12. collin county is garbage

  13. Didn't the Russian guy kill Apollo Creed dead in Rocky IV. That wouldn't be good, if someone got killed by the Kaforin forehand. U-S-A, U-S-A, U-S-A, U-S-A !!!!

    ReplyDelete
  14. Old School:

You can call me out on the Maingot and that still is a dumb situation that a coach signs a player to a LOI then drops him from the cotnract in the Spring. If Maingot had not signed an LOI, that was publicized on the TAMU-CC site it would not have been a big deal.
As for the 5.0-5.5 comment then the USTA needs to push those divisions more rather than all the trophy wife/soccer mom divisions which make the USTA all their money.

  15. Hacker

I agree, but the 4.5 is strong enough, I lost to some scrub last season but spanked Maingot, its just about being able to play and compete...that dude Dimitri is alright...just like Phat Bui, he's a CCCC player and I beat him more often that not and I don't see anyone complaining about me!

  16. Give me you name and I'll start complaining!! ;)

  17. Royal Oaks has Dimitry and he is a great player. But Nancy's Northwood team is better overall. I expect Northwood to win the fall league.

    ReplyDelete
  18. What exactly does one have to do to play in ITF tourneys. Maybe any 4.5 Jr in the world can play these tourneys and it means nothing.

I was thinknig that if someone is playing ITF tourneys and getting world rankings (albeit low) when they are 16 and 17, then when they turn 18 they would probably rate out as atleast a 5.0 player.

I am not saying he is or is not, but logic would say that jumping from getting a world jr ranking and playing ITF tourneys to 4.5 mens tennis would be a stretch (especially in the same year).

    ReplyDelete
  19. I would figure if he is playing #3-5 at CCCC then he is probably a 4.5 and would equate to maybe Top 40 in Texas.

    ReplyDelete
  20. As a former college player and a former 18 year old, playing in a 4.5 league is a waste of time (nothing against 4.5 players). If you are 18, playing at Collin County or any other non-D1 program and (hopefully) want to improve, you need to be playing 5.0. You need to be playing against that level of competition. Too much of the 4.5 league (pre-DCC and pre-Sectionals) you are going out and beating people 1-0 or 1-1 and scores like that. Dear 18 year old, leave us old people alone and come back when you are 40. Go play 5.0 and work on getting that D-1 scholarship. Why waste your time on beating up on us old geezers. Also, if you are an 18 year old playing in the 4.5 league, please do not make fun of me when I have to stretch before my match against you, please do not wear t-shirt with the sleeves torn out, please get a normal haircut and please do not act a fool. You will be old someday too.

  21. it was great advice, but can you translate to Russian please.

also, he wanted me to pass on a message to you.

Dear Old Fart - Get a job, go to work, and quit blogging during the day.

  22. OK, I just looked up Dmitry Kaforin and he played a guy on TBarM named Nate Hurd. Both of these guys were playing there first match of the year.

It turns out that if you google Nate Hurd, he just got done playing at Washburn and made second-team honors on the All-MIAA men's tennis team (at No. 6 singles and No. 3 doubles)

It seems that Royal Oaks ringer Dmitry was better than the TBar ringer Nate.

On paper, you would think that the Washburn player would beat a guy from CCCC. That just shows you how good Dmitry is, it was 4 &2.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Washburn is not a D2 powerhouse, so Nate would also be a legit 4.5 player if you go by the guidelines. Unranked D2 and JUCO all fit the 4.5 definitionno matter how skewed it appears.
Of course won TJC and Laredo figure this out 4.5 leagues will be trouble

    ReplyDelete
  24. Nate's mom isn't going to like that

    ReplyDelete
  25. Who's Rocky? And what team does he play on?

    ReplyDelete
  26. I MUST BREAK YOU!!!

    ReplyDelete
  27. Corey Noel would crush the russian - using either hand. He is just that good.

    ReplyDelete
  28. HOLLYWOOD GUARANTEES A TEAM VICTORY ON SATURDAY AGAINST THE GREAT ROYAL OAKS!!

    ReplyDelete
  29. I like that - "Hollywood Noel"

    ReplyDelete
  30. We have got to stick with "nancy" noel _ its very appropriate

    ReplyDelete
  31. hollywood and nancy not same person, check your hp 4.5 team

  32. A bunch of 4.0 mid year bump ups will not have a chance against Royal Oaks. Cmon get real.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Mark my words, RO will spank High Point

    ReplyDelete
  34. HP will not win 1 line against RO.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Royal Oaks is short singles players this week, if High Point is smart they might be able to sneak the singles lines and maybe a doubles!

    Insider

    ReplyDelete
  36. Translation: RO is short on doubles players this weekend so please HP place your ringers in singles.

    ReplyDelete
  37. It does not matter how HP lines up against RO. RO will dominate this match. HP has to many 4.0 bump ups that can't hang in 4.5.

    ReplyDelete
  38. HP will sweep the doubles.

    ReplyDelete
  39. HP doubles can't match up against RO doubles. 5-0 Sweep RO!!

haha...you guys are so funny...haha just watch "a bunch of 4.0 bump ups" will win this match! and you can take that to the Bank...it's a guarantee!

    ReplyDelete
  41. cmon Phy, be real. a bunch of your "4.0 bump ups" have not even done well enough to get bumped up yet. how you gonna compete with Rothwell's pros? maybe you squeak out a line of doubles....then who else wins?

    ReplyDelete
  42. It seems most 4.5 guys I've played this year aren't any better than 4.0 players. In fact most of you guys kinda suck. Maybe you should beat a couple of the 4.0 bump ups before you start running your mouth.

    ReplyDelete
  43. midyear bump - yes, 4.0s are just like 4.5's and 3.5s are just like 4.0s. I don't know why we have this silly rating scale - everyone is the same.

    ReplyDelete
  44. I'm glad to see the 4.0 bump-ups, too many 4.5 deadwoods who cant play hanging around polluting the level. They are just keeping their rating by playing doubles against other deadwoods. These new bump ups will probably bump some of the d-woods down to 4.0 where they probably wont even be that competitive there.

our ringer for singles is a "bunch of 4.0 bump ups"...any other strategy you guys want me to try??? come by HP and let me know so I could change the line up...Thanks Coach or Coaches! bring a camcorder too...you might learn a few things or two from the 4.0 bump ups.

  47. I saw baby cheetah on the main stage at Silver City. Did not know he/she could play tennis

  48. Royal Oaks barely beats HP 3-2. super breakers were the difference.

    ReplyDelete
  49. I'm not impressed unless Kaforin played Anyone know if Kaforin played??

    ReplyDelete
  50. So he did play Royal Oaks should be ashamed and won much easier.

    ReplyDelete
  51. looks like old school got schooled by HP.

How's the egg on the face??

    ReplyDelete
  52. i am a little surprised and impressed with the HP result today. I know they thought they could win and were really close but those 4.0 bump ups gave us regular 4.0s some hope that we can hang with the big dogs very soon.

    See you in the spring.

BTW Lucky Thunder is on a 2 match win streak at 4.5 as of today. Yep just racked up another double bagel default. I am unstoppable.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Noel wins over CC - but not sure of score.

    ReplyDelete
  54. It was tight. 3-2. We lost 1 singles and 1 doubles and won the other three. None of the matches were really that competitive but I'm not so upset that my #1 team lost, could be good for next season. We need one more win this season to guarantee a playoff spot.
    Any other results?

    ReplyDelete
  55. i saw the ro hp match and rusty would be proud ro tanked the last match up 3-1

    ReplyDelete
  56. where you at phynomenon? i guess baby cheetah should stay on the main stage at Silver city. We put your "4.0 bump ups" in their place

    ReplyDelete
  57. Crushing all those 4.0 bump ups in 3rd set tie breaks really shows your dominance. They should all go back to 4.0 where they belong.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Great Job Royal Oaks for crushing the 4.0 bump-ups in 3rd set super tie-breakers. Dominating performance!!!

  62. RO was missing a few players including Molina...a guaranteed win a whatever line he plays. If they did tank the last match when they were up 3-1, I wouldn't get too excited HP - it wasn't that close.

    ReplyDelete
  63. thats what i though bitchkid

    ReplyDelete
  64. They weren't up 3-1 until the last match was in a third set tie break. Trust me there was way too much cussing to be throwing the match. HP had a couple of match points at line 2 singles. RO was lucky to escape with the win.

    ReplyDelete
  65. hahaha...that line one double was kinda weak...yall stack lines and barely beat us with 3 super tie breaker...what dominance is that? it was a fairly even match up, wont' be so lucky next time.
