5.0+ Cities... The Heavyweights

I will write about QT when the DTA gets the flights out.  I was hoping they would get on the stick but I should have known they wouldn't.  With that said, I will start with 5.0+.

In 5.0+, it is 3 vs 2 and the winner play 1.  In the first match, it is Lakes/Jannasch vs Village/Perkison.  Lakes won the first matchup 3-2.  Loren Collins easily won his singles match and Bergh/Gonzales beat Jooste/Arrent in a third set TB.  Also, Welwood/Vejman beat McCoy/Carona in three too.  I see Collins continuing his dominance and I think Perkison gets a doubles line.

That makes it Perkison vs undefeated TBar/Bartzen.  Usually, Bartzen is really solid to win this line but I think Collins is better.  He is significantly better too.  While TBar won 2-1 Collins didn't play.   am going to go with my early season prediction and Perkison win 2-1 as Collins and a doubles line win.

It is a shame as all three teams are tremendous.  Many years, any one of these three teams would advance to sectionals and do well.  It is unfortunate that all three are out of  Dallas.  I could be all wrong and any could win but that is my best guess.  It should be some pretty good tennis.

I thought about discussing 3.0 as I don't think they have a city championship at all.  I opted to look and the only name I know, High Point/Bender.  I guess he will win.  I did notice his team lost 1 flight play match and then noticed there was a DQ.  It wasn't a Bender player but a JCC player.  Seeing that is why I am going to discuss the DQs.

The guy that got DQ'd is someone I have absolutely no idea who he is from JCC.  I guess he got DQ'd on strikes.  Yet, his total 2015 record is 7-3.  He had some big wins but he lost in pretty bad fashion too.  He also had several 3 set wins.  It doesn't look like the makings of a DQ.  I really don't understand the computer...

  1. Nobody cares about 5.0 or mixed.

  2. I agree that Village wins. Bartzen won't play singles though, as good as he is he's no match for Collins (0 & 1 last year at cities). Collins likely still wins and Jooste should carry line 1 doubles.

    1. I agree Bartzen, even though he is great, won't play singles (or doubles). TBar will win if their players show up. Jooste is awesome but doesn't have ATP doubles titles like Talbot and Michael Nott could likely win singles against Collins.

  4. DQ is a mystery for self rating

  5. The new tactic is for captains to video tape players they think are out of level and then send it in to the TTA. I've seen it a few times. There is no disputing video proof of out of level play. This may be the only way to stop the tanking. What's everyone think about that strategy?

    1. I think it's garbage. The player you are videoing and think is below their level could be being made to look better than they are because the person they are playing is just playing above their level, or is just bad. Things aren't always what they seem.

Play your game to the best of your ability. Have fun. If you get beat accept you got beat by a better player instead of complaining that you were beat because the player you played was out of level.

      Tired of this crap.

    2. Exactly, all you are doing is trying to say you are the best at your level and everyone else is cheating.

      Was anyone really videotaping? Seriously?

    3. Using the phone to video. Yes, there were.

    4. only strategy that could work is for captains to self-police the leagues.
since there will always be the captains who are fine with and justify the cheating(Le, Sisk, Abruzesse, Clark, Alzero, Wiley, Bender), there is truly no point to bitch about it.

  6. videotaping players is one of the dumber ideas I've heard of and I'll bet you can't name one player who has been dq'd because of the video tape. I've heard of it happening to a few people but only one has been dq'd and that's not why it happened. clearly people don't understand how the dq process works.

    1. I've never seen it but I can guarantee you that is the biggest douche move I've never seen.

    2. I have discussed the dq process with Todd Reed pretty thoroughly and he said all the 'this player is too good' grievances get thrown in the trash. You have to have a self rate cheater or bad results. Just because someone has a nice looking forehand won't get them dq'd.

  7. the guy with the best looking strokes on my high school team played #6. his strokes were perfect but that's not the same as being able to win.

  8. Where the hell is the QT schedule? This is ridiculous.

    1. Exactly. We can tell the DTA flighted the teams so why must they hide the schedules. We know they are done. They know their schedule but some of us need to plan ours.

  9. I made the video players post. It was just to stir things up a little. We didn't have any good complaint for a few days. For what it's wroth.

    1. I'm glad nobody was really video taping players. I thought Dallas Tennis had fallen to a new low in Douchedom. That bar is already pretty low.

  10. 4.0 last team in (Greenhill/Wendelken) will win their flight and advance to cities.
The other flight is loaded. Winner of Greenhill/Ohl and Oak Creek/Head will advance.

    2. My favorite shirts ever. Front said "give me rossignal" back said "or give me head". Showing my age. Anyone remember rossignal racquets.

    3. Yeah, it had the inverted throat. They were the most flexible racquets I ever tried. I think Wilander used them. Now they make skis.

  14. Lets place your bets?
Who wins QF tourney for 3.5 ? You have 4 teams fighting for that final 1 spot at the Citys in about 2 weeks.
Here are the teams in the QF next week....
    Wild Card Team Canyon Creek,
    Stonebridge's Gatewood team
    Fret's own Keith Clark team
    Greenhill's Alzuro team
I think its down to 2 teams but we will see.

  16. Should be interesting to see who comes out of 4.0 QT. I still think Ohl has a chance to advance from QT and get a sectionals wildcard. They've been close about three years in a row.

  19. We won the regular season. Playoffs are in a month. I pick Coery's team to win the 3 plays 2 match up. But, no matter who wins, it will be a tough final.
