4.0 Cage Battle Royale

Tony, Ryan and Jorge, awaiting fresh meat.

Now comes Cerebrus, the three headed hell hound guarding the gates of Nationals.  Originally chosen for High Point's three super-self rates, it now symbolizes the impenetrable barrier between Freeman and another sweet captains gift from Nationals (taking a cue from USTA Texas they are now giving out towels).  Tony Le has taken some hits since the season started, now three notable ones, that have lowered him from the prohibitive favorite to merely a crushing disappointment if they don't make it.  Nonetheless, this is his year and Tony takes a hard fought 3-2 win over Freeman in what I expect to be the final.  Now to the undercard.

Austin and San Antonio, separated at birth?  Or should have been?

Flight 1 is interesting, with Austin and San Antonio sharing bunk beds making it possible for Fort Worth to finally have their own room.  With Lubbock, Amarillo and Wild Valley as room mates, I don't see anything stopping these two from deciding who gets to Sunday.  As you can see, from what I can tell they are fairly interchangeable but I'll take San Antonio on reputation.  Clearly the guy on the left lost.

Flight 2 has Tony's Dallas team with a pretty easy draw.  I don't see Corpus, San Angelo, Wild Fort Worth or Wild Austin derailing this train.

Freeman looking pretty svelte.

In Flight 3 lurks the ever present Freeman.  Just at the water's edge he waits patiently to attack.  With his past success and reputation it would be hard to say he needs to lurk or be patient, but this year he's a little more cautious with a three headed hell hound on the prowl.  Waco, SETX, Wild Dallas and Wild San Antonio will be a light appetizer before Sunday.

Rigney, well, just being Rigney.  But who is that next to him?

And finally flight 4.  I have a hard time saying this but I think Rigney's Fort Worth team wins this flight.  Yes, the guy who's team finished dead last at sectionals last year (only winning two lines all weekend).  Yes, the guy who after losing the first sectionals match 2-3 last year had all his guys dump 15 lines in a row.  And then told anyone who would listen that he was doing it.  Yes, the guy who thinks he has the secret USTA decoder ring and can show you anyone's rating to the 100th degree (no, he actually can't).  I could go on and on, but yes, that guy.  What can I say, it's a really easy flight.  Laredo, Valley (aren't they the same team?), Wild Houston (no, not the Unicorns) and Wild San Antonio.

  1. Don't underestimate Rigney. He is the real deal.

    1. Obviously you've never met him. He's a certifiable nut job.
And he swore he was the real deal last year too.

    2. I've met him and I can verify that certified nut jobs would take offense at that statement.

    3. Even Zackary has figured it out. Look at the picture, he's running away.

  2. I'm glad this is finally here. I've been hearing about the Tony Le super team for over a year. It will be fun to see if they play up to their talent. These guys have never played for anything so it will be fun t see how they handle it.

  3. So basically, the biggest cheats in Texas will face off to go to nationals.

    1. Same thing every year.

    2. They will compete for the opportunity to go to nationals and get beat by other sections. If you think these two are cheaters can you imagine how all the flight play guys from those other sections feel?

    3. If Tony and Freeman didn't field a team you wouldn't win sectionals anyway so why do you care?

  4. Same old cheaters, same old justifications. We can't win unless we cheat, so be it. Lame nutless losers, as simple as that. They are the ones that got their asses kicked as kids and they are trying to make up for it. Probably have kids playing sports too, demanding participation trophies for their kiddos, so they don't have the same trauma when they are adults. Doesn't work that way unfortunately, once a loser always a loser.

  5. So that's why they're winning? Because they're losers. Interesting philosophy 8:36.

  6. Well said 8:36, some people just cant handle the truth so be prepared for the blowback by the micro penis crowd.

  7. If your season is over why are you even still posting? Its the playoffs so all the non-cheaters are home feeling good about their losses.

  10. This might not apply to everyone on Le or Bender's team. But if you actually tank your matches and try to lose to lesser players in the fall to achieve a rating and a chance to win your leagues in the spring for a chance to go to sectionals/ nationals, would you tell your children to lie about their age in order to play with younger children and have an advantage that way? In tennis terms, if you have a 15 year old tennis player would you sign him/her up in the 14 year old division so that they have a batter chance of winning? And if they did win, would you say that it's ok because of the result? The people that are defending these teams that tank are basically saying it would be ok for kids to do this in order to win. I do realize that other areas other than Dallas do this also. If someone who has tanked matches in order to achieve the said result and had a child beaten by someone who cheated, it would be hard for that father to get mad unless he is a hypocrite. I just think that as parents we have to be role models for our children. I think the whining over these teams has gone overboard but also the justification of these teams doing it is also just as bad. Just my 2 cents.

    1. The junior tennis analogy is terrible. A child actually has something to play for - a college scholarship, maybe a career in tennis, so playing below his level only hurts him. As adults we have no such goals, no ranking that matters, only bragging rights (nationals) to play for. In order to get to nationals, you have to put together a team of 'cheaters' to have a CHANCE of being competitive at the sectional or national level. Make sense?

    2. You obviously have no experience with junior tennis. The best juniors do go to the best tournaments to establish their ranking but as soon as its established they play up so they don't hurt their established ranking. If you get a top 10 ranking in 16s then when the big tourneys roll around later you play up in 18s because it won't effect your 16s ranking. About 6 or 7 years ago Brookhaven was taking maybe 6 kids to Kalamazoo and only one played his age level in 16s. Of course he was ranked #1 in the nation at the time.

    3. 9:47 thanks for making my point. In juniors you play up to secure your ranking, not down, as you said. In adults playing up does nothing to for you, playing down gets you to playoffs.

  11. I love the guys who have never been to nationals, or even sectionals, that get on here to tell you what its all about. Over 90% of Tony's team has been legitimately beaten by some 4.0 in Texas. And some have been beaten several times. They aren't ringers and at nationals they'd get hammered. Just because they beat you, or got bumped to 4.5 at some point, it doesn't mean they're ringers. You'll see.

    1. in total agreement w 3pm poster. We haven't had a Dallas team win nationals ever so why start now. oh wait, SP 8.0 goes all the time and Bender is a bad ass. In that case, Tony le will win sectionals and hopefully get his shot. Go Le!

  12. agreed. Those at home sitting and complaining. Prob have never been to nationals at any level. Getting there once a dream. There are people in Dallas that have skipped more than most of us have gone. Le Champion of Texas section despite being singled out and unfairly disciplined. And yes, you go nowhere without ringers.

  15. Anybody think the Wild Austin team has a shot against Dallas? Looks like they were the best team in Austin and lost in a close match that was probably a fluke. Could be tough.

Wild Ft. Worth and San Angelo don't seem great.

Corpus Christi hasn't lost but I think we've seen this team before, not very strong.

  16. Other than people posing as Tony's guys or Zackary, this blog has gone eerily quiet. Another sign that most of the whiners are gone by the playoffs.

    1. Because eventually they get beat by other cheaters. Did you really think you were the only person who had a tough childhood?
