4.0 QT Results, Look Ahead to the DCC

So Greenhill(pictured above) and Garland took the top two spots and had a close match to close out a somewhat uneventful Sunday as the final match only decided placement but that may prove to be important. Village was a surprise finishing 3rd and Brookhaven was hurt by the absence of Arenas and Kraemer for sure. After looking over results I think the outcome would have been the same either way. Congrats to both teams and good luck next weekend at the DCC.
The winner of each flight will make it to sectionals next weekend and to me it is hard to say there are clear cut favorites.
1st Flight:
High Point/Bob
Lifetime
JCC
Garland/Brueckner
2nd Flight:
Garland/Sisk
Greenhill
Lakes
Brookhaven
These are 8 solid teams and I do think it is anyone's weekend and will depend on lineups, tiebreakers and availability.
I will put out some odds and poll soon but feel free to throw in your two cents, as if I needed to request that.

  1. Am I to understand Dallas 4.0 will have two teams at sectionals, the winner of each flight, or is that a misprint?

    ReplyDelete
  2. Dallas always automatically gets a 4.0 wildcard. 4.5 is the only division that keeps getting screwed.

    ReplyDelete
  3. My money is on LTF & Greenhill going to sectionals.

    ReplyDelete
  4. Let's see if any DQ's come out of the QT. I would think GH Wertz and Garland Kierp wouild be in danger.

    ReplyDelete
  5. Just curious, why does Dallas always get a 4.0 wildcard. I thought the Texas Section used some type of lottery system. How does it work?

    ReplyDelete
  6. I Sierp is computer rated, not DQable not worthy I don't think. Wertz and Vassberg were hovering going into the weekend with Wertz getting a lot of playing time he might just go over the edge but who knows. Vassberg has one lopsided win and then a loss. I have only seen Tim play and he should be OK in 4.0 but the USTA almighty algorithms don't take common sense into the equation so he is on the hot seat as well.

  7. I thought the first WC went to the section with the most team entries and then they drew names after that but I guess I was mistaken in that assumption, maybe it depends on how many slots are to be filled. I do think it seems off that Dallas has so many 4.5 teams and gets only one team in. Good idea for OC to combine since that is the case.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Sierp is a self rate and should be DQ'd!

    ReplyDelete
  9. so, who's truly in contention here?

    ReplyDelete
  10. Sierp doesn't look to be a self rate. He played 4.0 in 2008. He only skipped out 1 year.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Odds
    Flight A
3:1 LTF 3:1-Lots of good Self Rates

4:1 HP-Quist and company, a good team but not normal Somabut good

8:1 JCC-The Lutes/Reiman show with soild players but not enough depth

10:1 GTC Brueckner-Good players but lacks depth. Does Sierp get the boot? If yes, then the odds go down.

    Flight B
3:1 Greenhill-Lots of depth but singles are suspect. If he gets swept in singles, that could be a problem.

4:1 Lakes-Great singles and solid doubles but if you sweep singles you only have to manufacture one line then you will probably win.

4:1 GTC-Lots of unknowns. O'Bannon/Courtney make for strong singles. They have lots of players but lots of unknowns.

BH 15:1-Some really good doubles lines but short on depth and singles.

    GH v LTF to sectionals.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Flight A is the weaker flight, only 2 solid teams in my opinion. HP and LTF should battle it out for first place. I have not seen any of the LTF players, so hard to make a solid prediction. I am thinking HP 3-2 over LTF.

Flight B is a much tougher flight. Each match will be competitive. GH & Garland should battle it out for first place though. Garland should be able to win both singles lines and take 1 of the doubles to advance.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Sierp is a self rate. It has an S by his name in tennislink

    ReplyDelete
  14. WCs are always randomly drawn. Each city gets 1 ticket in the hat for every 6 teams in the league.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Welcome to the new world order. Neither Somabut nor Sisk make it out of their flights. Lifetime's self rates and Greenhill's depth take the day. Everyone else goes back to the drawing board to figure out what happened when 4.0 was supposed to be so weak this year.

    ReplyDelete
  16. If Greenhill and LTF are the Dallas representatives at sectionals... it will be proof that 4.0 is weak.

    ReplyDelete
  17. 836.....That is hilarious! Lol. Too funny

    ReplyDelete
  18. I am sure that the strongest teams will win in DCC whether GH or LTF... or HP or Sisk for that matter. All those team have strengths and weaknesses. But all of those 4 team are worthy to represent Dallas at sectionals!

    ReplyDelete
  19. Sierp must have let his membership expire. By rule, he would have to self rate at his last computer rating if less than 3 years. Don't know what his rating was at the end of 2008 or whether that puts him in DQ jeopardy.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Either John Sisk left his hat in the drier to long, or his head is getting even fatter.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Guys, there's no hope of getting Sierp DQ'ed, so I wouldn't even waste time thinking about it. He has a long history of skirting the rules and has already been to nationals and knows how to play the USTA ranking system. He only plays his two qualifying matches each season and is there primarily for the playoffs and to get to Sectionals. You guys need to move on to a new target of frustrations.

    ReplyDelete
  22. GH/Lakes rematch...that's going to be a dog fight. Lakes lack of depth won't be a factor since it's the first match (Friday night). Whats' the feeling out there? Does Greenhill get revennge or is this a match up problem they just can't get past?

    ReplyDelete
  23. Sisk's head is getting fatter with every twinkie and victory lol I hope he get's both of his teams to sectionals! Great job cpt Sisk! Trent

    ReplyDelete
  24. Sounds like Trent likes Sisk's twinkie just as much as his better half does.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Since the USTA deems a double break per set "non-competitive" and constitutes a strike, we'll see how well O'bannon and other self-rates do in singles.

    ReplyDelete
  26. The balance of having to win and keep it close will be tough.

    ReplyDelete
  27. what's the schedule for DCC? can someone post it?

    ReplyDelete
  28. That double break is BS. If that was the case Wertz would be Dq'd already, esp after this weekend. Sierp should be dq'd as well.

    ReplyDelete
  29. From what I have seen I think Garland/ Sisk is the team to beat.

Strong singles in Obannon and Mike Zachery are great along with Zack Courtney. Tough to match up against.

The two 3.5 rated players are sandbaggers and Sisk has hidden them well.

With Hutchinson and Wiley they could be really tough to win 3 lines against. Lakes and Greenhill will need to bring their all against them as will Brookhaven.

Lakes have proven to be very good. I think it may come down to those two in the final group match on Sunday to determine the group.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I have some slightly different odds.

    Flight A
    LTF 3-1
    HP 3-1
    GTC 5-1
    JCC 7-1

    Flight B
    GTC Sisk 3-1
    GH 4-1
    Lakes 5-1
    BH 10-1

    ReplyDelete
  31. If that 3.5 Greenhill player got dq'd no player is safe! I think all self-rates should test it and win as big as they can.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Hahahahahaha, did Rossouw just say Hutchinson and Wylie? You just proved you know nothing about 4.0 tennis this season. Those two may play only once at DCC. If they are a key line Sisks team does not stand a chance. I cannot believe you are turning your back on your GH boys!

    ReplyDelete
  33. All of the 8 DCC rosters have solid doubles teams.

However, the winner will likely be the team with the hot (literally and figuratively) singles player.

The best computer-rated singles player is probably James Taylor, and it may come down to how well he does against Lifetime's self-rated guys and either Singh or Harvey of Garland-Brueckner.

However, Somabut may surprise everybody and unleash Quist in singles, which would could be a risky ploy if he has any strikes against him.

    ReplyDelete
  34. How is Wertz not dq'd. Look at these strikes!

    Vs Obrien/Struthers 6-2 6-1
    Vs Samson/Ryan 6-2 6-4
    Vs Tran/Shaw 6-4 6-0 (@ 4.5)
    Vs Liu/Chui 6-4 6-2
    Vs Brueckner/Key 6-3 6-3

He has not lost a match. Those are 5 matches that include double breaks.

    What gives?

    ReplyDelete
  35. Not sure how a double break per set can be a basis for a strike, particularly if the opponent(s) break three times.

    ReplyDelete
  36. We will see if the usta has the balls to dq these players following the QT.

    ReplyDelete
  37. The USTA has plenty of balls, but unfortunately they will all have Wilson stamped on them this weekend.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Do you know what you are talking about?

The usta watches self rates. They look for uncompetitive matches, which by rule is sets won by double breaks, which could be 6-3 or worse. All of those Wertz matches are by definition uncompetitive for a self rate.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Taylor beat Singh 6-2,6-0 in the regular season.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Yeah, but Singh was fasting that month.

    ReplyDelete
  41. J.Taylor might want to consider fasting.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out the two 3.5s Sisk added at the end of the year are not truly 3.5s. We will find out this weekend how out of level they self rated. He had DeFeo self rate as 3.5 when he was closer to a 4.5, which he is now.

    ReplyDelete
  43. yeah, you should've seen Singh play at QT... nothing like when Taylor played him!!

    ReplyDelete
  44. WOW, that 4.5 win for Wertz is HUGE! His opponents had good records too. Morrison has done good getting him!

    ReplyDelete
  45. R. Wertz should be DQed for some of the outfits he shows up to play tennis in! Somebody please tell him that those shirts and those shorts went out in the late 60s or early 70s... those are obscene and are a distraction to his oppoents. No wonder we couldnt beat him last weekend!

    ReplyDelete
  46. DQ computer was ran already. 1 DQ... On the ladies side.
    All the men are safe.

I agree w Roussow almost. 2 singles players are tough, and the 3.5 guys are ptoly closer to 4.5 if they are on Sisk team. That is why he ranked then 3.5.

Both singles and 1 doubles is thw Sisk formula. Courtney is not top 4 singles player for him and doubt he will even play.

The Lakes are in trouble because Whitaker plays a marathon against Oleg and then plays Obannon in the morning.

LTF takes it to Somabut. Quist did ultimate tennis and was npot a good record. Doubt he sandbagged Ultimate.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Double Break DQ is BS. Self rates would always be DQ'd. Plus tourney play not factored into DQ process.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Hey rocket scientist-- all the talk in 08 was about Flora and Courtney being 4.5, not Defeo. Now that 2/3 are 4.5, it's look at Defeo and Flora. When Courtney gets bumped, we can hear it now, look at Courtney,Defeo and Flora, I got it right after 2 years.

    ReplyDelete
  49. yep, lakes are screwed... they have no depth. Oleg will not go down without a fight. Even if Blakes beats him on friday night, hello sisk team in the morning and lakes are out.
I hate to agree with rossouw but he may be right this time. Sisk is the team to beat.

    ReplyDelete
  50. wait till a self rate puts a beat down on a C rate and see what happens

    ReplyDelete
  51. Sisk should have put his 3.5 self rates on his 3.5 team. His 3.5 team is about to be "bent over" by Bender.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Interesting now that I look further at Sierp and his results. Shocking that those results having brought up a DQ. But seems like new rule is you can crush people in doubles we are just trying to DQ singles players this year. Kingsley and Sierp will be tough to beat and Singh will add another solid line for Garland, the trouble for them will be coming up with another win. The Odulios didn't post big wins this weekend although Huling/Kelly seems like a winning combo. I think they might just match up well with LTF and HP. Funny line about James Taylor, not nice but funny. With that said I like James' chance against just about anyone in singles but think he might be more valuable in doubles. Jon Baker is the one to watch for Team Bob, he is the best singles player but has to be careful along with Quist.

    ReplyDelete
  53. LTF takes out Somabut this time. JCC is too short. Garland could surprise if over looked.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Wiley Hutchinson? are you kidding me??? how about Wickman, Obannon, 3.5 window dressings, Corcoron who has not lost at 4.0 in 12 months? Moreman? You think just because you don't recognize their name you can just write them off???? Come on Roussouw.

    ReplyDelete
  55. You are just making my point clearer. Sisk is the team to beat. Just because I didntt list them doesnt mean I wrote them off. I'd be more concerned about the guys I don't know on sisks teams based on big johns track record than the ones i do know.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Why are you backstabbing your boys at Greenhill, typical stuff from you Rossouw.

    ReplyDelete
  57. he is not backstabbing if he is right. Sisk's team is the force. GH has no sandbaggers to withstand the onslaught that Sisk will unleash on GH and Lakes.
Rossouw is trying to be objective. that;s it!

    ReplyDelete
  58. Exactly Mark. Those guys are unknowns for a reason. When will the guys on this blog ever learn??? It's Sisk and Somabut all the way, without much drama.

    ReplyDelete
  59. All you guys do all season is talk about how Sisk and Somabut cheat to win, and then you pick them to lose the DCC, what sense does that make?

    ReplyDelete
  60. Corey,

Unknown doesn't mean instant win. It could mean playoff jitters because never played at this intensity.

Its all easy until you have 20 people watching for the first time and playoff's pressure w no track record.

    ReplyDelete
  61. We need a poll. Who looks more like a boble head with their skinny ass body and over sized head.

    A. Cory Noel
    B. Marc Rossouw

Sorry Sisk you cannot be part of the poll. Your head definitely meets the criteria, but no one would be able to pick up your boble head with that enormous body.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Does anyone see any 4.0s hanging around the 3.5 blog? Exactly, NO. Then how come those 2 4.5 losers of Noel and Rossouw keep coming on the 4.0 blog? These 2 creeps probably still hang out at the high schools and attend proms. Losers!

    ReplyDelete
  63. You are not 4.0 either punks! I'm certain you got bumped to 4.0 w/a losing record. Is that you Kim Anderson??? Definately immature 40 something year old lifetimers!!!

    ReplyDelete
  64. Don't pick on Kim,he will be Arcaria's "go to" man in the playoffs lol unless he's out of town. Wink Wink

    ReplyDelete
  65. The only way Noel or Rossouw go to prom is with each other or with their sisters.

    ReplyDelete
  66. This comment has been removed by the author.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Sounds like somebody struck a Sisk nerve. You getting tired of it fat boy. Stop your cheating ass ways or play yourself on your own playoff teams. Then you can fly to Puerto Rico and hang out with Willy while everyone else plays tennis.

    ReplyDelete
  68. This message is for PEARLMAN - Burt, no hard feelings, really, but nothing feels better than INSTANT KARMA.

Did you see us walking from the barn to the courts at 1 pm when you called the ref on us? We got there literally between 1:01 pm and 1:02 pm. I heard how it actually went down, and I heard you pulled the same thing last year. The ladies were on the courts last time we checked, (which was just before 1 pm)

BUT, again the INSTANT KARMA was awesome. Guess you should of told your singles guy to be actually watching his court too if you are going to pull something like that - Since your singles guy was late by well over 5 minutes while you were getting us penalized games on the other courts.

We should of gotten more than the 1game and serve for that court, but KARMA and justice were both served up nicely with a side of 5-0 schlacking.

I won't think twice about this again, and it is too much work for me to hold a grudge, but in my opinion, God did not like what you did and that is why he served you up the Instant Karma.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Cease and desist with the criticism of Rossouw and Noel for dispensing their sage advice and opinions.

They are not, as insinuated, blog busybodies. Rather they are providing invaluable insight that those of us at the 4.0 level have not yet acquired. Please show some maturity and respect to these two blog icons.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Lol....no nerve struck here! The attention we/ anyone gets, means success. Name calling is not bothersome at all, but anon is right about middle-aged men(boys) acting like boys. When have I not played in the playoffs? When? Uh huh---got it. Just chatter from a spineless anon.I get tired of getting txt'd about this mindless/ non-constructive garbage, I mean really?????

    ReplyDelete
  71. Nice job BMo! Pearlman is a total ass and is a whiney little bi:tch. Classless move by Pearlman, but expected by that grump.

    ReplyDelete
  72. Nathan Quist should be a 5.0

    The facts are

1992 Oklahoma State Champion in doubles

    Played at NAIA William Jewell

    1994 All District/Region at WJ

William Jewell went to Nationals in 1990, 1991, 1993, 1994

Played USTA in 2002 at 5.0
(All members of that team are currently 4.5 or 5.0, execept for Quist)

What should DQ Quist is that he played on a NAIA ranked team.
A college team that goes to Nationals in 4 of 5 years does not go unranked. Given his age, he should self rate at 5.0

    http://www.jewell.edu/william_jewell/gen/william_and_jewell_generated_pages/Tennis_Mens_History_Page_p4826.html

    http://tennislink.usta.com/leagues/reports/TennisLinkReports.asp?Level=T&TeamCode=DB006FCB00D0C52695141B2A2928AF3E&CYear=2002

    ReplyDelete
  73. look, I know Nathan Quist from early 2000s (league and tournaments). He is an open player and end of story! I don't understand how Bob and Sisk persuade players of that type of caliber to play way under their level!!!! sick to my stomach! Unless he is in a wheelchair now, he should not be playing anywhere near 4.0!

    ReplyDelete
  74. 2008 Ultimate Tennis.

    He lost to David Moore
    He barely beat Paul Trevino
He barely beat Talliat in 1 set before he got a crepe.

in he might just be overly talked about.

There are probably other worries on his team.

    ReplyDelete
  75. I've seen Nathan play recently. He is an upper level 4.0 who could probably win some 4.5 matches playing line 2 or 3 doubles. He would not have made the starting line up on Bob's team last year. Until you have seen him play you quit your bitchin and complaining about what he did in 1992.

    ReplyDelete
  76. It is not bitchin, it is the facts. Doesn't matter how he is playing. He needed to self rate at 5.0. Play in 5.0, if his play is at low 4.5 or high 4.0, he will then get a computer rating after a couple of seasons.

    ReplyDelete
  77. Sisk, why you calling Anderson out like that......that's constructive garbage right?

If you are tired of the useless insults, call 1-800-JennyCraig.

    ReplyDelete
  78. He barely beat Talliat in 1 set before he got a crepe.

"Crepes"!...... that is obviously not a 4.0 food, a frittata maybe. But a crepe? Bump him and bump him hard!!

Acceptable 4.0 foods mid-match include power bars, sandwiches, fruit and some varieties of nuts.

    Crepes are strictly 5.0+.

Just a good a reason for a bump as any of the others posted.

    Aw, Lou and his frittatas........

    ReplyDelete
  79. Quist eats crepes? Quist eats crepes?? Quist eats crepes???

Just saying it three times convinces me that he is seriously a 5.0+ player.

Plus he won state at #2 doubles in OKLAHOMA! #2 doubles means he played 5 or 6 on his team there in OKLAHOMA.

And he eats crepes. During matches.

    ReplyDelete
  80. When do mid-year ratings come out?

    ReplyDelete
  81. Quist is an easy DQ if someone actually files. Of course with all the chatter on this blog it's clear that no one has done that yet. LTF can get eliminated by Bob/Quist and then Houston or Lubbock will file on Quist. Too late to address the issue for this weekend though.

    ReplyDelete
  82. Gotta respect James Taylor for entering 4.5 singles in the upcoming Ft. Worth MZ tourney. Clearly, he will be bumped to 4.5 at mid-year, but he could still enter 4.0 tourneys for the remainder of the year as some other obvious bump-ups are doing. We have plenty examples of wimps on this blog. Here is an example of a guy doing the right thing, even at the risk of costing him valuable year-end rating points.

    ReplyDelete
  83. Jenny Craig doesn't allow Shiner's in the program, so that is out. The name calling is fine by me, just put your name on your post, so I know the "real" man. So it is Anderson posting anon? The trash talk is mindless bs! The matches have to be played, there will be two teams advancing to State and hopefully one from here to Nationals period!!!! Somabut is King of 4.0's! Sectionals 7 out of 8 years or something like that.If he does it again, I'll be rooting and cheering them on the whole way just like last year!

    ReplyDelete
  84. Who will be some of the top 4.0's looking for new teams in the fall? Looks like alot of the top 4.0 guys from spring will get bumped to 4.5's. Any good 4.0's out there on crappy teams that might be looking to make a move?

    ReplyDelete
  85. Does Cary have a brother that is on a 4.0 team?

    ReplyDelete
  86. Bazan will be looking for a 3.5 team. Perhaps he can get on one of Sisk's teams so the cheats can stockpile.

    ReplyDelete
  87. Why doesnt the Texas Section officially publish something about flights and wildcards for Sectionals? We r getting everything 2nd hand.

    ReplyDelete
  88. You guys are right, Marc and I shouldn't post in the 4.0 thread of a blog that we are moderators of. Makes perfect sense to me. Not only that, I would venture to say he knows 90 percent of the 4.0s in the playoffs, and apparently I'm the only one that knows John players, so I would say our credibility in this area is not in question.

    ReplyDelete
  89. Nobody is claiming you two don't know anything or arent' moderators, we just don't want your fing opinions nor do we care to hear from you. So shut your traps.

    ReplyDelete
  90. GTC ALL THE WAY BABY!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  91. I think Cory is so interested in how Sisk does because rumor has it if Sisk makes Nationals GTC will upgrade the double wide trailer tennis center, buy some more recycled tennis balls, and by some new fish nets to replace all the crappy nets they have now.

    ReplyDelete
  92. 1- 4.5, 3- 4.0, 1- 3.5 teams in the DCC from GTC..... Unmatched anywhere in the city! Great job Sisk, Brueckner and Noel

    ReplyDelete
  93. To Anonymous @ July 13, 2010 11:46 AM. What James is doing is the smart thing to do. Play a better quality player to get you ready for the Big tourneys coming up. Sectionals and Master Series. Both of them are 600 Points and are the true measure of the season. After playing many 4.5's he will be ready to smack around the 4.0s in thuse tournamenst. I guarantee that he will be playing 4.0 in both..

    ReplyDelete
