3.5 QT Schedule:

JCC vs. Bent Tree
Village vs. Oak Creek
Saturday, July 10 - 9:00 A.M.
Oak Creek vs. JCC
Village vs. Bent Tree
Sunday, July 11 at 11:00 A.M.
JCC vs. Village
Bent Tree vs. Oak Creek
The match of the weekend is actually on Friday night with the Village vs. Oak Creek. The winner of that match wins the QT. I have given an analysis of who I think takes it on my comment inside. But who cares what I think. I am opening this up to the anons and players from the rosters of the QT teams. Give us your insights and smack talk!
Regardless, Good Luck to all !!
my guess.....
ReplyDeleteFriday winners- JCC & Village
Saturday winners- JCC & Village
Sunday winners - Village & Oak Creek
Saturday could be a toss up with Oak Creek coming out on top of JCC. Regardless, Village wins the QT 3-0.
I am not familiar with any of the teams except the village.
ReplyDeleteIf any of the other teams have strong singles lines then they have a good shot at beating the village. The village will get a couple of doubles lines each time so you have to at least split singles to beat them.
It's hard to play at night - tough to see. They should play at Greenhill or elsewhere and start at 6 or 6:30 so that they have some daylight.
ReplyDeleteWhere are these matches being played?
ReplyDeleteBrookhaven
ReplyDeleteCaptain Fagtastic,
ReplyDeleteHow bout a little anaysis of the QT teams? U laying down on the job?
Anon---anyone can do an analysis, don't wait on cpt fantastic. Cpt has done a fantastic job!! The 3.5 level is diluted, how can one be done anyway.
ReplyDeleteI was hoping to get input from some other players throughout the league instead of monopolozing the blog with my thoughts. However, since you asked....
ReplyDeleteObviously the first thing to look for is who has the singles ringers. If you look at the Village, they have Pete Moir who has a solid 5-1 record. His one loss was to Mark Jett from Stonebridge who has been undefeated and quite frankly, surprised that Jett (who is a self-rate) has not been DQd by the system based on his season's scores.
They also have Jonathan Patrick who is 3-2 with losses to Jae Chung from Glenagles (who is undefeated this seson) and Ernest Gatewood. The loss to Ernest Gatewood has me questioning how good Patrick really is. Actually, that entire match has me questioning how good the Village actually is losing 1-4 to Stonebridge. This tells me they either were resting on their laurels thinking they had City in the bag and got caught off guard, or the just aren't that good. Regardless, it does show you they are vunerable and beatable.
You then have to take notice to Chris Church from Oak Creek. He is 4-1 with his loss in a 3rd set tie-break to Berco Neiman. Church is a self-rate and I would imagine has a few flags against him. We will see how good of a captain Reeder actually is to see if he can manage getting through QT using Church and not getting him DQ'd.
They also have Krishna G -- (no I am not going to try and spell much less pronounce his last name). He has a decent record and looks like he could be a challengig line as well.
I look at JCC's roster and what concerns me there is that there appears to be no dominate singles player on their roster. While they do have several solid doubles players, we all know how difficult it is to sweep all 3 dubs lines. The lack of an appareant singles ringer for JCC will be their achilles' heal.
Bent Tree is almost the same story. They do have Ryan Craig who was 4-1 but that is it. His wins were all tight and just don't think he is strong enough to carry them against the Village or Oak Creek.
Now, after thoroughly assessing singles, I could bore you with a doubles analysis, but I will leave room for the anons and I will boldly leave you my predictions just after viewing the singles players.
I think the Village takes the QT 3-0. They have 2 solid singles players that got them past High Point Vincent. Their dubs lines were also tight matches against them. I think they were asleep at the weel against Stonebridge and that was their wake-up call.
The singles of the Village and Oak Creek will be a battle, but I see the Village edging them out in their dubs.
Oak Creek takes 2nd place, going 2-1. JCC will come in 3rd, only edging out a poor and deflated Bent Tree that ends up on the short end of the stick 0-3.

ReplyDeleteCaptain Fantastic,
ReplyDeleteGood post. Agree with most of what you said.
Another problem with the village is their singles lines are both solid however if they get to City they won't stand a chance against some of the our of level ringers on some of the other teams.
The main problem with the village is they only have two singles players so no depth and it's not tough to work our which players they are going to play on which lines in doubles.
The QT teams look pretty close so the matches should all be competitive. But none of these teams will do well at the DCC. There is only 1 sectional-caliber 3.5 team in Dallas this year and that is Garland, Sisk.
ReplyDeletealright! GTC Guy is back !!!
ReplyDeleteBender and Sisk are the class of the league.
ReplyDeleteu got benders team way overrated
ReplyDeleteWe shall see which team does better at sectionals. Bender has a knack for doing better at sectionals than cities.
ReplyDeleteIts not a knack or an accident, he's a smart captain that knows how the system works and how to win when it counts. Plus, he keeps his mouth shut, like Somabut, unlike some of the other blowhard captains.
ReplyDeleteEddie Hill is the wind beneath Klameci's wings. Very touching.
ReplyDeleteWhat does that even mean??? You have issues!!!
ReplyDeletewhy haven't we heard from Oak Creek, Bent Tree or any of the other QT teams? Some of those guys were posting earlier making claims. what happened?
ReplyDeleteGO BENT TREE!
ReplyDeleteThe QT doesnt matter. Whichever team wins the QT will get crushed by Garland at the DCC
ReplyDeleteTrue, but Garland will go down in the end.
ReplyDeleteWho will garland lose to? Maybe Puerto Rico.
ReplyDelete1st QT matches tomorrow at 8:00 pm at L.B. HOUSTON.
ReplyDeleteLBH is such a dam dump. The facility is a disgrace. Almost as bad as Garland. They should find another location for the playoffs. We could have easily gotten courts at Oak Creek.
I'm not sure why everyone bags on the courts at Garland. I played there for the first time this season and was expecting Compton. Admitted, when driving through the hood to get there is a little sketchy, once you get to the tennis center the courts are great.
ReplyDeleteIf I have to play at Garland I rent a car as you never know what you will return to when you finish your match.
ReplyDeleteBest to just leave you car unlocked so they don't break the windows to get in.
Half of Garland's courts are decent but the other half need to be scraped and replaced. We played there one day after a rain and half the courts had pools of water sitting on them. You could see where there were low spots and completely uneven.
ReplyDeleteJust leave your snacks on the roof of your car and Sisk wont have to break the windows!
ReplyDeleteOak Creek 4 JCC 1
ReplyDeleteBent Tree 3 Village 2
Oak Creek 4 JCC 1
ReplyDeleteBent Tree 3 Village 2
Bent Tree 4 JCC 1
Village 3 Oak Creek 2
Rain, rain go away, you screwed up some guys QT match play.
ReplyDeleteJCC defaults 2 lines. Ouch! That gives Bent Tree some addded ammo going into tomorrow's match against Oak Creek.
Oak Creek needs a 4-1 win or better to secure the QT. Otherwise (given no 3rd set tie-breaks), they will be edged out by games lost. The 2 lines JCC defaulted gives Bent Tree 0 games lost on those 2 lines.
If Oak Creek wins tomorrow 3-2 (and no 3rd set tie-breaks) both teams will be tied in terms of match win/loss, lines win/loss, and sets lost. As of now, BT only has 67 games lost. If they lose 3 lines, that would be an additional 36 games lost for a total of 103. Oak Creek has 86 games lost. If they lose 2 lines, that is 110 games lost total for them. Even though they win the match, they lose the QT.
Pull out the popcorn. The match to watch is BT and Oak Creek.
As for the Village. they beat Oak Creek 3-2, even defaulting a line. But their loss against Bent Tree (which was straight up) was too costly. Their only chance is for Oak Creek to beat BT 3-2, and for them to beat JCC 4-1. They could then squeak by winning by sets lost if there are no 3rd set tie-breaks in either of the other matches.
Who knows, stranger things have happened and I was flat out wrong to discount Bent Tree.
Good luck tomorrow.
Oak Creek beat Bent Tree 4-1 earlier this year. Can they do it again? I hear Bent Tree is really up for the match.
ReplyDeleteCaptain fan called it. Bent Tree wins the QT by least games lost.
ReplyDeleteSO UNFAIR!
ReplyDeleteThe only reason we finished behind Bent Tree was the gift they received from JCC. If JCC had not defaulted TWO lines against Bent Tree we would have advanced. The tiebreak system should be adjusted when one team receives 2 defaults and another team does not. So unfair!
I find it unbelievable that a team would default 2 lines at QT. You would think that if a team puts in the effort to make it to QT they would at least show up to play.
ReplyDeleteI feel bad for those on JCC that did play.
Anon July 11, 2010 3:42 PM..
ReplyDeleteYour right it is unfair however it's not as if any team in QT stands a chance of winning any lines at DCC.
The quality of the teams at city's is a whole different level.
Repeat after me...
ReplyDelete"Life's not fair"
If this is the worse injustice you have seen you have led a sheltered life.
ISNT IT FUNNY?
ReplyDeleteMarvin Reader who was whining about 1 defaulted line (HP vs Bent Tree) is "victimized" again during the QT. This time it is JCC defaulting 2 lines against Bent Tree. And poor Marvin Reader is crying about it. If JCC had only fielded a full team then Oak Creek would be going to the DCC.
Boo hoo hoo
Go Bent Tree!
-----------------------------------
ReplyDeleteI predict Garland to win City Championships this year unless High Point coaches during matches again. With in match coaching again, they should probably win City Championships.
Of course, Oak Creek should have advanced but JCC defaulted 2 lines on SAT.
Typical DTA B*lls*it rules
-----------------------------------
@ Anon 9:22
ReplyDeleteHow did/does HP coach during matches? What do they tell their players?
That's just Marvin Reader STILL complaining about Berco's mother. What did she say to Berco? Something like "atta boy"?
ReplyDeletereader shouldnt complain. it was his bad line-up call aga bent tree that cost oc a spot in the dcc.
ReplyDeletereader stacked sgl putting chris church at #2. if reader goes straight up, then church beats art smith (church beat him before) & krishna easily beats bill lewis. that gives oc a 4-1 win & spot in dcc. even some of the oc players were crtical of that 1/2 assed call.
but rather than take respons for a poor decision lets whine about how unfair the world is. & lets blame jcc
If any of the QT teams were that good, they should have swept who they played 3-0. It is pathetic that JCC would make it and then default lines because of the weather delays. Your team should know anything can happen in the playoffs and they should be there and ready to play at anytime knowing the circumstances with the rain. I just don't get it. Did the team have 3 Bar Mitzvahs to attend??
ReplyDeleteOak Creek can't whine because they shouldn't have lost their match to the Village. What are they bitching about when they were given a line and 0 games lost on that?? Their doubles shouldn't have been spanked like they were.
The Village I just don't get and is a total f* up. They must have not have taken Bent Tree seriously and that was the same attitude that had them lose their last match of the season which placed them into the QT.
Bent Tree made the most of what was given them, won the matches they needed and the lines they needed to secure their spot in the DCC.
Congrats to Bent Tree on making the most of what they had. Job well done.
confucious well put...
ReplyDeleteAnybody want to put a list together of the best singles & doubles players for this weekend?
ReplyDeleteBetter still maybe Cap. Fantastic can but together what he believes the match results will be...
I would take a shot however I don't know most of the players.
If you want to see the best players just take a look at Sisk's roster.
ReplyDeleteSisk has depth in doubles I give u that. He has 1 good sinles guy in Donnie Davis however he is got great and has lost a few matches in 3.5 tournaments.
ReplyDeleteBack up your blanket statement that sisk's team is the best.
Sisk has 2 losses in singles and 2 in doubles. Pretty strong imo. Bender is Bender----strong
ReplyDeleteLet's assume the Sunday match between Bender and Sisk is going to determine who advances to Sectionals. Let's play armchair captain. Who do you think those guys will put in their lineups for that match?
ReplyDelete1 singles Harrison 2s Delarosa 1 dubs Ott/Kevin 2 dubs Jason C/ Mike M 3 dubs Andy M/ Donnie
ReplyDelete1s Neiman 2s Cuevas 1d Monk & Kaiser 2d To & Nguyen 3d Toney & Moghe
ReplyDeletebender only has a few self rates and they are weak. the best, truong won plano open 3.5 s but is out of state & cant play dcc.
neiman probably wins. cuevas definitely loses. but garland has by far the best dubs. in fact garlands 3d is better then hp 1d. looks like a easy 4-1 w for gtc. empty ur bank acct & bet it all on gtc.
1s Neiman 2s Cuevas 1d Monk & Kaiser 2d To & Nguyen 3d Toney & Moghe
ReplyDeleteIf he does NOT play straight up.
Kaiser is a line 3 doubles player through & though and needs a good partner to pull out a win even on line 3. check his record last season.
I think HP vincent will pull out a surprise win and shock you all.
ReplyDeleteAgainst either HP bob or Sisk -
They can split singles, win line 1 Dubs, then you never know what can happen.
Gtc goes into Sunday 10-0 or 9-1:)
ReplyDelete3.5 DCC FINAL RESULTS
ReplyDeleteGarland 3-0
HP/Bender 1-2
HP/Vincent 1-2
Bent Tree 1-2
You Anons been hitting the crack pipe way too hard. HP Vincent will be lucky to get a win against Bent Tree and will probably walk off losing 0-5 or 1-4 to both Bender and Sisk.]
ReplyDeleteIn terms of the only real match being played which is Garland vs. HP Bender, whoever came up with that line up for HP cracks me up and obviously has no clue about any of their players.
However, I did hear Berco has to work that weekend, both To and Tuong are in Thailand, Cueves is in Mexico, and Kaiser has a Bar Mitzvah to attend.
>>July 14, 2010 7:58 AM
ReplyDeleteYou are too funny. Way to go BigBird..
>>Anonymous July 13, 2010 2:32 PM
1d Monk & Kaiser
Are you crazy. Kaiser is the weakest guy on the team so unless you are trying to give up line 1 dubs why on would you do that.
Monk is solid at dubs and singles.
Bent Tree singles is very week. I saw their match on Sunday and it was an absolute push fest.
ReplyDeleteI doubt they will win against any team.
They do have a couple of good doubles lines though.
I thought Big Bird was Kaiser. If he is Bender's worst player, then he must have a decent team. I have seen Kaiser play recently and he is definitely a different player from a year ago.
ReplyDeleteIf 3.5er is who I think he is, he will be lucky to walk away with a win this weekend on any line, singles or dubs.
Your Right. 3.5 is the Brittish Ninja. He has a difficult weekend ahead of him.
ReplyDeleteFor the record I don't post on this or any other blogs. Check the IP's.
ReplyDelete3.5er is not BritishNinja..
I agree that it will be a tough weekend as all the teams playing are tough teams however I believe we have a shot.
I expect most of those posting on this board are not even playing this weekend as they have no game.
Any computer rated 3.5 player that thinks they can beat me I welcome the opportunity to play you after DCC....
BritishNinja
you don't post?? you just did !!
ReplyDeleteInteresting... Not sure about his tennis record but his criminal one certainly earns him the "trailer trash" title! What else is to expect to come from the Garland team? All are a bunch of cheaters and scum. He was right in his post. His name officially (in the DL) is spelled without '...

My guess at benders lineup agaist sisk.
ReplyDeleteS1- Neiman
S2 - monk
D1 - steve ng. / ?
D2 - paul to / rene c.
D3 - bender / ?
Will update when I get more time.
wow, garland got schooled.
ReplyDeleteDonnie Davis bent over and took it from both HP bender & HP Vincent. I guess tournament play is a few level's below league right ?
HP bender kicked everybody's butt and showed who the #1 team was.
Bent Tree took HP bender to 3 tie breaks loosing 2 and was deserving of the wild card spot.
fun weekend and some good tennis was played.
I guess the garland's supporters are not talking now ha !!
ReplyDeleteDonnie Davis #1 in what ?
Somebody with no serve at all just kicked Donnie Davis ass today.
Who is that Berco Neiman guy?, is he good or this Donnie Davis is overrated?
Berco Neiman went to nationals a few years ago as 3.0 then got double bumped to 4.0. he spent a year or more at 4.0 until he got bumped down to 3.5 year end.
ReplyDeleteHis skill level is around average 4.0 singles player. Very smart tennis player who makes very few errors and knows the angles of a tennis court.
Yes, Berco is that good and Duke(from HP Vincent) out played me Both beat me fair and square. And Yes, if you go off of the Tournament Rankings ...I will fully agree with you that I am probably overated...as you say.
ReplyDeleteFor the record, I have not talked trash about anyone nor thought I was better than anyone else. I have enough problems keeping my own ball in the court.
I simply like to play tennis and as a result have played several tournaments this year. That is the only reason I have so many points. No big head here. I play this weekend at Ft. Worth and can easily lose in the first round.
So if anyone from GTC talked me up before the DCC...then they too ran their mouth without knowing me as a person or what type of matchups I struggle with.
All of the DCC matches our opponents won ...they won becaused they earned it. I would be very surprised if anyone on the GTC 3.5 team that would say differently.
Nice win Dallas !!!
ReplyDeleteNow bring the trophy back home!!!
Go Dallas !!!!! Lets go Texas !!!!
WOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO !!!!
