4.0 Weekend #1

Flight A Winners:
High Point 5-0
3-2 good match winners: Village, LBH and Brookhaven.

Those are our next three opponents so I look forward to playing them. Looks like some good teams. Fretz put up a good fight in the match of the week but just missed out on the upset.

Flight B Winners
5-0 winners: Garland/Sisk and HP/Somabut (with newly appealed Newman..)
LBH/Hicks and OC/Smith also posted wins with a wierd default at line 1 singles in the LTF v. OC match. Any news there?

C and D played scrimmages, sorry now Team Eddie news this week.

  1. Lifetime/Hill beat Eldorado 5-0 in a Interflight match in case you wanted to know Cary. Congrats to all the A and B flight winners. LTF can't wait to play for real on Sunday.

Kirby Martin schools the previous 3.5 kids.

Bazan hides his best singles player and he still wins.

HP/Bazan with some interesting news & strategies. Can they continue?

Tune in next week for... HP/Bazan Does the dream team wake up with nightmares against Brookhaven's doubles and their 0-0 so weak singles.

  3. Line 1 singles on lifteime barron turned his ankle in second game and Andre could not continue to play as he was carried off the court. Or we would have won that match!

    ReplyDelete
  4. shouldn't that have been a "retire" and not a default?? Just curious. What is going on with major LTF injuries and guys going to hospital???

  5. I like the newsflash, i actually wasn't supposed to play, I had a beer ready to go and my flip flops on and got called into action but Kyle and I like playing together so it wasn't like it was that much of a stretch. Trying to get out of next week as well so I will wait to start drinking until I have 8 players on the court.

Fretz and BH did live up to the billing I gave them and I was a little surprised by the singles results. That should set us up for a good match with them, I look forward to it.

thanks for the scrimmage update LTF, good for you for playing it, I know of a couple of caps who weren't interested in playing their scrimmage match.

  6. Cary, its a minor point. But your info on Newman is wrong. He did not appeal becuase he was never bumped.

    ReplyDelete
  7. thanks Doug. I thought for some reason one of you was bumped.

    ReplyDelete
  8. He tried to knock his teeth out too, as he knew that this is proper protocol for LTF, but he fell wrong, and landed on his hands.

We are sending him to Andrew Weinstein for proper falling techniques.

    ReplyDelete
  9. That's just the way things work. He was going to get DQed for playing college tennis anyhow.

  10. Happened on the Same court as the great Teeth incident, Too!

    Also Vs Oak Creek,
Also resulted in a 3-2 Loss,

    The Court #1 Curse!

  11. Cary,
    Good job beating Dirty Garland.

The ticket's Pete Stein has no business playing 4.0 singles.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Or Philip Key for that matter,
    That is a weak team,
It's bad enough that all the decent 3.5 players got bumped into 4.0,
But now even marginal 3.5 players are getting into the mix.

    ReplyDelete
  13. That Garland team basically got screwed as they were not bumped but yet forbidden to play 3.5 unless they each find a new team as no more than 3 of them are allowed to compete together.

    ReplyDelete
  14. okay. enough with last week as only half of the league played. Cary, what are the biggest matches this weekend and who is going to win. There are some bad teams at 4.0 right now and only about 8 out of 34 teams are worth a crap. this is terrible for the better teams. They have to play bums for most of league play.

  15. In response to...

"Line 1 singles on lifteime barron turned his ankle in second game and Andre could not continue to play as he was carried off the court. Or we would have won that match!"

or if you would have won line 1 or line 2 doubles, you would have won that match...and had OC won line 2 single and line 3 doubles, they would have won 5-0.

Am I missing something? Isn't the reason matches are played is because their are no guarantees.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Why don't you just set up an eight team playoff based on your assessment and decide who gets a bid to cities in the spring.

The the rest of the "bums" can participate in USTA league tennis for recreation and enjoyment (as well as competition) like the USTA intends.

So much focus is on the better teams and the play-offs that the original intent of USTA league tennis has been lost.

    Signed,

    One of the bums

  17. If USTA did not intend to have elite teams then they would just have league tennis and that is it. no City, no Sectionals, no Nationals. Work on your game and improve or just appeal back to 3.5 and be a solid player at that level. I am tired seeing bad 4.0 team with half the players being 3.5 level players.

    ReplyDelete
  18. something is wrong when top teams wins 5-0 every week without dropping more than 1 set. I should not happen unless people are playing in a level they should not be playing.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Cary. Please put up the preview for this week. I am tired of this stream. although a lot of 4.0 teams suck. 7-8 good teams and that is it.

    ReplyDelete
  20. do u want some cheese with that whine? stop complaining and start competing. If u want to change the rules, join the USTA. The 3.5 players are legit, thats all that matters as of now.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Aren't you a golfer anyhow... I do compete. would like more competition so I can get better not play bad players that I breeze through that don't belong at this level.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Maybe you should be playing 4.5 then. I am being sincere, maybe u should try and get on a 4.5 team. Everyone wants to get better but proclaiming the rest of the league below par makes u sound arrogant, not competitive.

    ReplyDelete
  23. not arrogant. Just a fact more than half of the league is below level. Too many teams with 3.5 guys. 90% of the league is below what you will see at Sectionals. 95% of the league is below what you will see at nationals.

    ReplyDelete
  24. That is true for all levels. Regadless of what level u play at, u always encounter much stronger players at the sectionals and nationals. The current 4.0 league may not be as strong as in the last few seasons but these r players just like u and I who r trying to get better.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I understand. Just don't think that gap should be that wide. If they did not allow more than 2 out of level players this would help. they should also require teams to have a minimum of 12 player registered that are at level by the time rosters are due. Raise the level of play and have less teams. That would strengthen the Dallas 4.0 League.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I agree to ur points but that needs to go in parallel with a better USTA rating system to keep ringers out.

    ReplyDelete
  27. 90% of the active player at sectionals,
and 100% the players at nationals will not be allowed to play at their level in the next season.

All of you pin heads need to stop complaining and just be happy that we have the participation level that we have and nice places to play (excluding Dirty Garland)

    ReplyDelete
  28. Whining about players and teams being BELOW level now, and whining about players being ABOVE level this past spring and summer. Geez, I have now seen and heard it all from this group, or likely, one individual.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I agree. Whine, whine, cry, cry. a little annoying. I happen to agree with Vijay though, sign up for a 4.0 team too, but you are probably going to be bumped regardless.

Here are my thoughts. USTA is trying to up the levels. You MID-LEVEL to strong 4.0s, be ready to be bumped to 4.5 for the Spring. Etc. at 4.5. Dallas had the strongest teams in 3.5 AND 4.0 sectionals.

I think there is a concentrated effort to get players bumped up by USTA. Maybe they noticed a large gap at the lower levels, and tried to create better stair steps for players, so there would not be huge gaps in play if they get moved to the next level.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I meant to type "4.5 team too". You might find that you are not to far under level there.

    ReplyDelete
  31. CARY... A penny for your thoughts on this weeks upcoming matches. PLEASE!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  32. "Cary. Please put up the preview for this week. I am tired of this stream."

YOU CAN'T BE SERIOUS??? THIS stream has been out for 1 DAY!!! What is up with these whiney people lately? Hey Cary, get rid of your JOB, just do this blog only! Maybe ask that question on thursday or friday even. its not our fault u didnt play this week, you whiney kid you.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I am so happy to read the past thread of whining and crying. It just goes to prove the haters are just that..all hate and no reason. Last season dirty Garland had ringers and now we have guys playing below level at 4.0. What you fail to see is that it is all in the grand scheme of how the USTA's rating system works. It looks like it takes a good 2 years to sort out ratings based on your win/loss records and of course many other factors. The Garland team had no other choice but to move everyone up to 4.0 because we could not form a new 3.5 team based on the USTA's rules. The team number was removed. So, we have a few guys playing 3.5..big deal at least you did not get beat by Glen Flora...yet!

    ReplyDelete
  34. Snot,

If my team does not win City this FALL, AND/OR you all do NOT give us competitive tennis, or if you beat us, I am going to be unhappy and blog bad things about YOU. Cause you suck or your a ringer. Do you understand?

You are either too good or too bad, but none of this has anything to do with me or my own issues. You must be competitive, but barely lose to me every time.

Do you understand your instructions now Snot? Or do I need to be more clear?

P.S. You world revolves around me and my world. It is my league, not your league. I am not even going to thank you for playing in it. You should be thankful that I let Jane give out net measure-ers to you scalley-wags.

See me at the Finals! Bow down to my GREAT TENNIS SKILLS!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  35. The USTA will never put any limits or rules in place for teams because they want as many people playing as possible. If they had rules that made 50 percent of the team be at the proper level, several teams would not form, thus making them less money. For the system to truly become better, you would only let players play one level. None of this winning in 3.5 and losing in 4.0 stuff.
4.5s don't want to play 4.0s, 4.0s don't want to play 3.5s, etc. But, everybody also wants more matches so if the teams are more heavily regulated, there would be fewer of them, and thus fewer matches.
    Impossible to please everybody.

    ReplyDelete
  36. We are ensuring our 3.5 rating until Glen's brother graduates High School. You should be happy to get an easy"W" I agree with vj gtc is dirty! How dare them to be the only team in history to have "out of level" players advance!
    Sisk

    ReplyDelete
  37. I hope you all get the tongue in cheek humour on that.

BUT, I do think that USTA IS trying to move all the levels up.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Thank you...I love the tennis measure thing-a-ma-jig. I will use it to curb the teams that lower their nets before playing dirty Garland! I will make sure I keep in mind that the league is all about you! Thank you for reminding me!
