4.0 Week 2

Since Eddie is about to pee his pants along with the rest of the LTF’ers I guess I will post something for them here.

In flight A the some of the top performers of week 1 play each other HP v. BH and LBH v. Fretz. I have never played Cliff’s team or met him for that matter so it will be a mystery to me until we play them on Sunday. I look forward to a good match. LBH and Fretz should be interesting. If Fretz can come up with another strong doubles team they should be a force. If they can keep putting out two strong singles players though I see them doing well. I like HP and Fretz to win these matches.

In Flight B there isn’t anything that interesting going on. HP should beat OC although it won’t be as easy as the Stonebriar match. Garland v. LTF should be fun, almost a rematch of the 3.5 finals and will Vahdat be back or is he out for a while?

In flight C we have the 4.0 match of the week between Team Eddie (LTF) and BH/Pearlman. Based on last season these two teams have a chance to get to the postseason so this match should be important because starting the season with a loss puts you in a bad spot with only two spots per flight available. I can’t pick against Eddie so I will go 3-2 LTF.

In Flight D there are a few good week one match ups. TBar takes on OC/Smith 2 who has a solid roster. TBar lost Wallace who really set them up well so I think they are vulnerable this season. One of my favorites was BH in this flight but they are playing Eldorado who I also think is due for improvement. They combined their two teams and I think that will bring some marked improvement for them but Bartlett will be tough to beat. The big matchup in this flight is the Lakes v. GHill. Two playoff teams from the Spring. I really don’t know what to think about them but I will be more than anxious to see their result.

  1. Good picks Cary. Should be a great week of Tennis. LTF vs Brookhaven is going to be a great match. I cannot wait and I am not even playing. Good luck to all. Eddie.

  2. It will be interesting to see how many teams suffer by having their top players in San Antonio for sectionals.

    ReplyDelete
  3. I predict a strong win for Bazan's team over BH, with a 4-1 victory. Breadsticks and Bagles passed out to many of the Brookhaven players this weekend.

Spectators are advised to arrive early, or they may miss the show.

    ReplyDelete
  4. San Antonio is a 600 point tournament.
And anybody who cares about tournament rankings will be there,
It should create holes in quite a few rosters.

    ReplyDelete
  5. Hmm - I see at least 2 of Bazans top players registered for SA - but BH will be fully loaded - no excuses.

    ReplyDelete
  6. Sectionals are really tough to make it to Sunday. None of those teams have anything to worry about. there players will be driving back to Dallas on Saturday night.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Yep we are down some players this weekend. So any free agents need a place to play this weekend. Come join the party train!!!

    bazan.dean@gmail.com

    ReplyDelete
  8. I though Lifetime was the only team known for running a train.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Bowman will be back for sure unless he loses first round in which case he might linger in consolation for awhile.

    ReplyDelete
  10. No. Lifetime is known for steam-rolling teams!!!

    ReplyDelete
  11. yay Roger Federer! I am very happy for him. He really looks like he enjoyed that win cause it wasnt just automatic this time.

    ReplyDelete
  12. It looked pretty automatic to me, at least in the finals. No competition from Murray after the win over Nadal.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Anon 9:37am, how did you know I am the King of Consolation at the Majors?! I saw my draw and the possible 4 matches on Friday if I get hot and I agree that I should be on my way home sometime Saturday but at least I should SEE some good tennis done there!

    ReplyDelete
  14. I'm wondering if LTF/Hill featuring "THE BIG FISH" will even play Bmo this weekend.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Last week was supposed to be a tough match for HP/Somabut. Several of you predicted a Stonebriar victory. We beat Stonebriar 5-0 without dropping a set. No knock on Stoenbriar. They are a good team with a good group of guys.

Now Cary says this week will be a much tougher test than last.

    Whatever....

    ReplyDelete
  16. NO BACKHANDS FOR BMO!

    ReplyDelete
  17. HP/Somabut got a litte chip there?

I predicted a close match I guess I should have prefaced that they actually had to bring 8 players and bring at least 4 good ones. They brought Moomjian and that was it, no Dowd or Ryan Caras, what is up with that Stonebriar?

I don't think OC can beat HP but Voss and Newman will be in SA on Sunday and there is some quality players on that team so maybe 1-4.

    Good luck HP'ers.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Cary. Its okay. Our shoulder chip has now been soothed. Just needed some love for HP/Somabut in the midst of all this LTF adoration.

    ReplyDelete
  19. LOL T-Bow - I am sure you will do fine. I was just checking to see if you were actually reading this garbage.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Are you sure Newman and Voss will be in SA on Sunday?

    ReplyDelete
  21. Newman and Voss will be out in the quarters.

    ReplyDelete
  22. It was automatic for him, but not to get there in the first place. I was just looking at Federer's facial expressions on Yahoo, and he just looks so incredibly happy and relieved. Like he really really wanted that one. it was very refreshing, it was becoming too expected for him for awhile.

    ReplyDelete
  23. VAMOS RAFA!!!! VAMOS RAFA!!!! VAMOS RAFA!!!! VAMOS RAFA!!!! VAMOS RAFA!!!! VAMOS RAFA!!!!

I JUST TRY MY BEST, NO?

    ReplyDelete
  24. Who is The Big Fish on the LTF team?

    ReplyDelete
  25. Bmo. But I don't understand the "no backhands....".

    ReplyDelete
  26. BMO. why are you looking at Federer's facial expression? Do you want to tell us something?

    ReplyDelete
  27. Just my luck! I got a 1 man fan base built up, but unfortunatlely it appears to be a hate me fan base.

No worries, you won't be the first, you won't be the last. I can tell that u r trying to get something started, but I am not playing ur game.

In fact, I have a sneaking suspicion on who u r, but it would not be smart for me to respond to any anonymous blog comments.

I also have a slight bald spot on my head, and I wish I was about an inch taller. Enjoy.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Ain't Nothing "Slight" about that bald spot!
Time to go clean like Agassi and OC BL

    ReplyDelete
  29. Now that's funny. True, but still funny.

    ReplyDelete
  30. My prediciton on Sectionals. Ike wins all draws. Everyone is available for league this w/e.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Ike leftovers in DFW on Sunday, no league play either.

    ReplyDelete
  32. BMo...Ha Ha I am the one that said no backhands for you! I have seen what you can do with it. We play you this weekend and had to throw a comment out, but was to lazy to sign in...was your guess right?

I have never seen the top of your head so I do not know about your bald spot but from my understanding the rest of your team has...Ha Ha Ha ...get it? See you Saturday and remember to pack your pistol.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Talked to San Antonio Tennis Assoc. and they are making a decision by 10am Thursday morning on whether to postpone Sectionals. So I guess we will know soon enough if everybody is in town for matches this weekend.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Trae, either way you are going to take an L this weekend.... Ha ha.. Just kidding my man. Best of luck this weekend. good seeing your name. Eddie

    ReplyDelete
  35. LOL!!!! Hey SNOT! ;)

Actually, NO! I did not think it was you!!! In fact, I had it down to 2 people, and you were not on radar.

Actually, I see a re-schedule in the horizon. Have I called you a butthead yet for doing that?

Okay, just so you know. You got me. see you soon.

    Brian

    ReplyDelete
  36. BTW... I am on Hill's team, not Barron. That is whom I was playing with in the Spring, so I continued as such.

So, we are in different divisions. Only in the playoffs and future self orgainized tourneys...

    ReplyDelete
  37. I would be so sad if sectionals was cancelled....;)

Come on Ike give me back Noaman and Trae and then slow up and hit Dallas on Sunday night.

    Bagels and Breadsticks??!!

I wish I will be happy with a close win or any win for that matter.

I am cutting back on carbs as well.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Bmo,
Why did you and Andy split?
    Sisk

    ReplyDelete
  39. Andy was tired of being the catcher,
and want to switch to pitcher.

    ReplyDelete
  40. its a long story, but he has promised to play catcher again for the team... ha ha ... JK!!!

He had already committed to Hill team, but he thought he could sign up for 2 4.0 teams at the same time. It was his first year in USTA. he dint realize it had to be at 2 different levels.

He has committed to Hill team for the spring.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Just for the record, I know it was not a high ranking 4.0 team... but good job by Garland/Sisk to win all 5 lines with their "3.5"ers.

I believe I saw on the blog how none of the new guys would do well at 4.0. I will say it again, the quality of the 3.5 was strong last year in Dallas, and there are many that will do well here in 4.0.

5-0 win is not a bad start. Still going with my original pick until I see differently. The team forever known as Dirrrty Garland wins their flight.

A strong player at their level should be somewhat "competitive" two levels up. (Not get smoked to be more precise two levels up).

    Nice job newbies.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Won't matter if they do. Lifetime/Hill, Brookhaven/Pearl, HP/Bazan and LBH have the top 4 teams. Lifetime runs away with this thing easily. so it does not matter if Garland can win their flight, which they won't.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Bmo...good luck this season! We still need to play the doubles match that never happened.

Hope to see you in the playoffs!

    ReplyDelete
  44. I was post September 11, 2008 8:11 AM

And I don't even play for Garland, just so you know.

    Top 4 flight winners:

    HP/Bazan
    Garland/dirtty Garland
    Lifetime/Hill (uhhh)
    ???/??? BH/Bartlett?

Alright Lifetimer, your words are like air until you prove something. Can you stop beating your chest for like 5 seconds? why don't u wait until you even play ur first match before you crown yourself king.

I like lifetime, and even I am getting annoyed.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Completely annoyed is the understatement of the year.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Hey Bazan's 15th player. I thought Cary was the 15th player. Does that make you 14??? Years old that is. No reason to be annoyed about Lifetime. They are for real. Maybe we can set up a match between you and our 14th best player on Court Six at Lifetime.

    ReplyDelete
  47. No. Bazan is the beer boy, i am only the water boy. His ranking is much higher on the team. (I am not of legal serving age yet).

Have your player ready, I will take him on today. Just make sure that it is not on Court 1. I hear that court is cursed.

Have him waiting for me on Eddie's court. What time?

    ReplyDelete
  48. Nevermind. I can't play your 14th player. I already have a prior tennis commitment today.

Let's just see if we can go a whole 3 days without talking about lifetime. ESPECIALLY if the matches get rained out.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Until then, Breadsticks and Bagels for Brookhaven!

    ReplyDelete
  50. Breadsticks and Bagels Baby!! Breadsticks and Bagels.

    ReplyDelete
  51. You guys are "jiving me" too much. cmon now bro.

    ReplyDelete
  52. With Ike being the same size as Texas, something tells me Getz isnt in his home this time around

    ReplyDelete
  53. Effing Grapefest Director Chris Giordano. What a moron. Last time I do that tourney. And that used to be a fun tourney with tix to Grapefest, sponsers etc. Guy was clueless.

He "Meant to email us that opponets wanted to play at 430 pm on Friday instead of 2 pm"

So, we could have played at 430 pm all along instead of taking a half day from work? And then you can't even tell us, put it on the website, etc, until we SHOW UP? I "meant to email you..." ????

Plus, still no idea or times posted beyond Sat 8 am as of Friday. Come on, seriously? What a moron. No sponsers (like all the previous years), no organization, nets were all jacked up and not even close to being the right level on one of the courts in particular. Maybe 2 inches to 2.5 inches low and sagging? (Middle court on the north side at the Hilton) But wants someone (not us) to play a USTA match played on it?

Seriously. What a waste. Don't waste your money next year. Walked out!! Have you ever been to a tournament where it is so disorganized and screwed up that you literally would rather leave then play? Pissed!

    ReplyDelete
  54. It's really a joke.
    The draw is terrible,
The Tournament director has his head up his ass.

Grapefest used to be a fun little tournament,
They had a couple grand in prize money for the open Division which brought in some really good players from all over the state,
    Really good matches to watch,
They had big sponsorships, Raffles, Wilson would giveaway rackets and racket bags and stuff, Free tickets to Grapefest,

Now some new guy took over the DFW hilton tennis club, and he can't even get the god damn draw posted on the website,
No Sponsore, prize money, not even a fucking t-shirt.

I sent him a couple email with no response,
This is the closest tournament to my house but I doubt I will play in it again unless they get their shit together,

The Director claims to have indoor courts at the Colonial in FW reserved if it rains,
But that's like 40 miles away, and if the guy does not have it together enough to have match times posted, Fuck that!
This is why I don't play tournaments, I have better thing to do with my time than wait around.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Grapefest sucks _ just like Beaumont

    ReplyDelete
  56. Was that tournament this weekend? Why would you even schedule a tournament the same weekend as the most important tournament of the year in Texas (Sectionals)? The strongest players at every level would have been playing San Antonio anyway.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Same reason people climb mountains I guess.

    ReplyDelete
  58. The point was it USED to be a fun tourney with benies. Grapefest tix, etc. Maybe it was not normally scheduled during sectionals, idk, but I DO know the point was that it was the most horribly run tourney I have been to, and I will NEVER be going back.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Looks like Matches for tomorrow are Golden. Bazan team ready to add another ho hum W to the column.

    ReplyDelete
  60. I'm starting to think our 15th player plays for BH. This will not be a ho hum W at all. Last week maybe but not this week, we will need to play well today. 2PM at Brookhaven indoor courts FYI.

We booked inside thinking it would be wet but it is awesome outside today, oh well...

Looking forward to a good match.

    ReplyDelete
  61. HP/Somabut...uhhh...oops! How is that chip on the shoulder doing? :)

    ReplyDelete
  62. We had a tough win today against a tough team from BH. They have some great dubs players luckily they were light at singles or we would have been in trouble. I won't make excuses, I didn't plan on playing but got subbed in on Friday. Frank and I were up a set and two breaks and just couldn't close out our opponents. Bob and Juan did not play well in the 1st set but played and served extremely well in the 2nd set and the TB coming up with aces and strong 1st serves. Ed and Kirby said Cliff and Dave are a force to watch out for.

Not shocked by the HP loss, OC is a good team, Hey Bob come over to the party train in the Spring so we can relax instead of toughing out these matches.

    ReplyDelete
  63. BTW, I will say it for anon, I suck. I had match point put away volley and put it in the net.

    I really suck!!!

    ReplyDelete
  64. OC had a chance to win 4 of the 5....lost #1 Singles 12-10 in the tiebreak after winning first set at 3. Line 2 dubs was a sound defeat by what looked to be a couple of guys who could have beat most 4.5 teams today. Looks like Bob switched the lineup. The other 3 matches could have gone either way. It was a good showing by both team.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Lifetime Loses 1st match. Yowser. Dropped both singles and 1 dubs.

    ReplyDelete
  66. lakes and Greenhill had a tough, tight match today. match was decided at Line 1 singles and that match was a nailbiter. Windham and Tran both showed some excellent skills. Tran pulled out a tough one. Lakes wins 3-2.

    rockettman

    ReplyDelete
  67. Holy COW!!! Look at that Garland win!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  68. Of Course, Bazan team won. I was never as worried as Cary was apparently. GREAT JOB GUYS!!! No more dropping 2 lines though. Ridiculous to make it that close. Come On!

    ReplyDelete
  69. Holy Cow. Garland/dirrty Garland yet to drop a line, and Glenn Flora has not even made his appearance yet. Looks like my predictions are holding true, with the exception of LTF/Hill. Although, I don't know how Forrest Lost! That's a shocker!

    ReplyDelete
  70. Not a shocker if Eddie is trying to get Forrest bumped back down to 4.0 for the Spring. Forrest has already shown that he has no desire to play at his appropriate level where he wouldn't win 90% of his matches.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Forrest did not play. Was at a wedding in California. BH played well enough to win. We missed a great opportunity. Just have to win out again, just like the spring. A lot of work ahead of us. Eddie.

    ReplyDelete
  72. BMO AND ANDY NEED TO BE TOGETHER,MAKE IT HAPPEN!!!!!!!
    Sisk

    ReplyDelete
  73. "Looks like my predictions are holding true, with the exception of LTF/Hill." So I guess you picked the OC over HighPoint??? Guess I missed that.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Would have been nice if you would have given Bob a heads up. Looks like teams need to bring their "A" game each week the rest of the season. Their may be a few more sleeping giants out there.

    ReplyDelete
  75. Looks like Lifetime threw Marcus to the wolves at line 1 singles but I am surprised line 2 lost so soundly. Same with line 1 doubles. Wines and Kennedy are supposed to be some of the strength of that team. Not a good sign for them.

BH in great position to make the playoffs now even if it is only week 1. Please don't tell me Garland is the team to beat in that division.

    ReplyDelete
  76. Actually, my only prediction as far as that flight was that Garland/Sisk is the team to beat in that flight. My apologies to OC. You guys have definitely proven to be a better team than I (and most people?) thought. Nice win today.

I still don't think Garland/flight C is in the running. Lifetime slipped up obviously with Forrest not being around. What about Mudsam???? Not sure what happened there either.

Don't know about the Eagles Landing results as of yet, but I have an idea that they will not be fully staffed but maybe half the season, which means they are nothing but spoilers for the other teams. So, which team shows up from Eagles Landing may end up in teams making/missing playoffs.

Match up of the season happens next week with Garland/dirrty Garland taking on HP/Questions-a-lot.

I am not sure if dirrty can put up another 5-0 victory, but I would not be shocked by a 4-1 victory. Is Flora out of the country/state right now? I might have to come out for that match? Please post the time on that one. Sure to be a crowd pleaser.

    ReplyDelete
  77. Maybe they are saving their 4.5+ superstar for the most important match?!?!?

    ReplyDelete
  78. It's pretty impressive that Oak Creek has lost 11 sets but they are still 2-0. A lot of three-set wins to get that kind of statistic.

    ReplyDelete
  79. Agreed. Looks like BH is now team to beat in Flight C.

    ReplyDelete
  80. Going to be an interesting matchup between Garland and High Point next weekend.

    ReplyDelete
  81. Sisk,
Get over your man crush on Bmo and Andy, they are "overrated" just like Marcus and Wines, both are decent 3.5 players!!!

    ReplyDelete
  82. Congrats to OCBL on his big grapefest 3.5 championship...??? I thought you were so good that you got bumped up to 4.0 but you just cant let go of your 3.5 glory can you? Wow that was a great win over all of those 3.0 and 3.5s.

    ReplyDelete
  83. Who played line 2 dubs for highpoint. Thought they lost all their good players?

    ReplyDelete
  84. Interesting, I've been bumped up to a decent 3.5 player.

BH/Pearlman has two very good 4.0 Singles in their lineup. But there are still six matches left to play, so anything can happen.

    Should be a fun season.

    ReplyDelete
  85. Nguyen/Smith played line 2 for Somabut.

    ReplyDelete
  86. What I saw this weekend from HP at dubs was far better than what they threw at us last year. Both line 1 and 2 were very strong. I'm not sure they have lost too much talent. Bob never does.

    ReplyDelete
  87. You must have played Bob's C team last season.

    ReplyDelete
  88. I would take Brian and Andy in a nanosecond,I do love them too!!!!!!!!!!
    Sisk

    ReplyDelete
  89. Now I know why they really call you "dirty" garland. Lets keep this about tennis not your personal desires.

    ReplyDelete
  90. Anon 9:47 am (9/15):

I'm not a 4.5 player by any means but I'm also not a 3.5 player. I'm right where I belong. I played a terrible match against BH and my opponent did exactly what he needed to do to let me make error after error. I let the LTF team down but I and we will rebound and we'll still be there in the end.

If you'd like to play, post your name and contact info as I clearly need the practice and you need to know what you are talking about. J Marcus is also not a 3.5 player as he has worked hard on his game and is in his rightful place at 4.0.

  91. Mark,

DO NOT REPLY DIRECTLY TO ANONS

    It like feeding the bears.

The reason they can't post their names is because they play line #3 doubles and can't hold your jock strap.

Just let them live in their glass houses.
    Peace be with you,

    ReplyDelete
  92. Baseline Jesus is the best. I love it.

    ReplyDelete
  93. Isn't Baseline Jesus a form of anonymous? I give him the benefit of the doubt that he is not trying to convince anyone that he is the real Jesus Christ.

He has taken the Judge Not so that ye be not judged verse and then judges all of those anons. Talk about mentioning glass houses?

Baseline Jesus is blasphemous. For what it is worth, I really think this false Jesus Christ does not understand the verses he doth quote.

    ReplyDelete
  94. Anons are highly spiritual people.

    ReplyDelete
  95. We'll be hosting Bob's team at 1pm and I will have extra courts,if anybody wants to hit.
    Sisk

    ReplyDelete
  96. ha ha Sisk! Good luck on Saturday. should be a good match.

I dont think Baseline is really a form of anon, cause it is the same person responding everytime. So at least there is a level of consistency out there. A pseudo anon at best.

Also, It' not like Baseline is throwing rocks at glass houses either like true anons.

The name makes me laugh as well. Furthermore and in finale, He is saying, hey, I follow the Lord, and I play tennis, so I will represent both just a little bit with a nice touch of humour to it.

I think it is an appropriate way to get two messages across at the same time without coming across as some sort of bible beater weirdo or a major turn off where you want to puke. Very appropriate as it is done currently.

    You Rock Freebase Jesus!

    ReplyDelete
  97. ooops! I meant Baseline Jesus.

    ReplyDelete
  98. Baseline Jesus is throwing rocks in glass pipes.

    John,

I think you need to recruit Brian and Andy for next year. I will pay for their fees and beer! FYI anon poster, they are a solid 4.0 doubles team!

    ReplyDelete
  99. They know I'd take them.I admire their loyalty, btw,I'd take Eddie too!
