4.0 Week 1 preview

Flight A:
We hit dirty Garland team 3 and I am looking forward to playing a Garland team anytime. Springpark has a bye and not too much although I think the Village v. JCC could be close depending on who comes out for that match. JCC had good early season run in the Spring and I expect them to put up a fight against an improved Village team. The real match up is Brookhaven v. Fretz. Fretz hasn't put a team together in about a year but I met Cloninger at the Denise T. Tourney and he said they were focused on putting a good team together. I like their roster but they are a little thin at the bottom but I think they will start the season out strong and like them in a close upset v. Brookhaven.

Flight B:
Other than LBH v. Village I think the other 3 matches should all be close and start to show who will show up in this flight. DCC runner up HP/Somabut will get a test from Stonebriar, they have some quality players and added college recruit Moomjian who is good. Springpark v. Garland I think will set up who will be fighting for one of the top three spots with HP and LBH. The OC v. LTF/Barron match should also be good and show me if LTF 2nd team can make some noise.

  1. Lucky Lifetime does not have a real match this week. The championship parade will have to wait.

    ReplyDelete
  2. Bob's new pickups are what I would call "reaches" I wish Cary would have put this match up on the poll, I might take Stonebriar 3-2 especially if Moomjian plays.

    ReplyDelete
  3. So why again are people talking about SP and HP being the best teams. It is silly. those teams will have huge dropoffs from last season. Lifetime and HP/Bazaan have the most talent. Brookhaven and LB Houston are close. Hp and Sp and down the list some.

    ReplyDelete
  4. thanks for the love Anon. We will do our best to make you proud over the next couple of weekends. If I learned anything from last season is not to plan ahead too much and win each match, so as much as I would like to talk about Pla....., I want to win some matches and then we will get loud and obnoxious like Eddie.

    ReplyDelete
  5. HP Somabut will win the fall season again. All you guys who have been playing 4.0 the past couple of years should know better than to bet against Bob.

    ReplyDelete
  6. the San Francisco 49ers and Dallas Cowboys have 5 superbowl championship rings each. How have the last 10 years been for those teams. Past success means nothing with limited talent.

    ReplyDelete
  7. The only questions, is will Cary hide his best singles players by playing them with doubles partners so that they can keep their win/loss record down again?

Although, that WAS strategic captaining to be able to keep your players from getting bumped in the Spring season, so you could have the most important Fall season... ha ha

    Noaman/Kent doubles Line 1 ...

Unless Cary decides to sandbag his team to another losing record, Bazan actually looks to be the best team out there. OOOOOOOOOHHHHH!

    ReplyDelete
  8. Hiding them did not work so good for Cary last season. Problem is he couldn't hide himself from the lineup.

    ReplyDelete
  9. ha! I like it. Keep the bashing coming. I did try to work things maybe too much but don't worry I am playing awful lately other than singles blog matches so I will be in charge of taking pictures this season so I won't be seeing the court all that much. Too many good players in front of me. I am going to challenge Kirby "Big One" Martin next practice to see if I can get the #10 spot on our team singles ladder.

    ReplyDelete
  10. I heard that Lifetime has a player that played tennis at UNT, Adrian or Andre. How does that get reported.

    ReplyDelete
  11. UNT doesn't have men's tennis team. Maybe it was Andrea because they do have a decent women's tenni team.

I think it is Ok if you played intramurals...

    ReplyDelete
  12. How about 6 years ago??

    ReplyDelete
  13. UNT used to have a men's tennis team.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Andre, and yes, he's good. He will not lose a match at #1 singles. But he'll get bumped after this season. I've played against him.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Anon, why are you so worried about this new player Lifetime has? Are you a little upset that you couldn't win against him. So now you figure you would try and get him DQed even before the season starts? Come on now, if your not that good just accept the reality. Don't be jealous that you weren't able to recruit him.

    ReplyDelete
  16. If he played college at UNT he will get a DQ. I wouldn't report him until after he plays.

    ReplyDelete
  17. I am sure that if Barron knows he played for UNT (and he actually DID play and its not just total BS), he won't play him. It is one of the very basic questions of the self rating system.

They changed the rules this year, so that if it is obvious cheating, the captain can get suspended from USTA as well. Not just the player.

Obviously, this would fall under obvious cheating. I am sure that Barron knows better.

    ReplyDelete
  18. 5.0 or 5.5 is minimum ranking

    ReplyDelete
  19. USTA RULES

NAIA, Div. 2 & 3 unranked college team player (commited to, playing, or played ) -program with no scholarships (not
    much stronger than High School tennis); Junior College player;
Former Juniors who had national (foreign or domestic) rankings but did not tour or play in college

This is the lowest level for anytype of college experience. Under 36 years of age. You are a minimum of 4.5. Division I is 5.0 if you are over 46 and 5.5 under 46. Forfeits will occur and captains suspended.

    ReplyDelete
  20. USTA 4.0 Description

    You have dependable
    strokes, including
    directional control and
    depth on both forehand
    and backhand sides on
    moderate-paced shots.
    You can use lobs,
    overheads, approach shots
    and volleys with some
    success and occasionally
    force errors when serving.
Rallies may be lost due to
    impatience. Teamwork in
    doubles is evident.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Cary from what I just read looks like you have a great case to request going back to 3.5.

    ReplyDelete
  22. LOL! that was good!

    ReplyDelete
  23. hey I can lob and I get impatient, doesn't that count for something?

  25. I'm not going to play Beaumont anymore after the obnoxious comments made by Getz on the 3.5 thread. I played that tourn a couple times and it wasn't that great anyway.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Whoever you are ANON, Michael Getz did not say anything to you that shouldn't have been said. You are a total assh_le. It's good you're not going to Beaumont, so I won't have to play you.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Beaumont does suck. That's why they're posting on this site to try to drum up players. Don't need to go to Beaumont to get a good game.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Going to Beaumont does not make sense unless you don't have a life

    ReplyDelete
  29. I played him once, Getz is a real jerk.

    ReplyDelete
  30. To the ANONS who have nothing better to do than play with themselves while writing about Getz. The problem is you're already doing all of the ass licking and sucking; that's the game you're really talking about.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Garland beats SP. LTF/Barron beats OC.

    ReplyDelete
  32. The Beaumont open comment was for those of you already signed up for it. We had to get special permission from the Texas section in able for the points to count after sectionals.
Because Lamar University over re-acted like the rest of the Texas Gulf cost to Hurricane Gustav, and caused the cancelation even though we didn't get an inch of rain from the storm.
Beaumont will be getting nine more city courts with four covered courts with a stadium court to come along with a small pro shop toward the end of 09'.
We are not Dallas or Austin with the millions of people to chose from for a tennis league but we are trying to get a better Tennis community down here. Besides we do have Marty Fish, Robbie Genipri, and Martina with Murphy Jenson hosting and event down here next week.

  33. I played 4.0 singles at Beaumont last year. Beaumont was my least favorite tournament. I had already decided not to play this year even before I saw the nasty comments by Mike Getz on the 3.5 thread.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Shamus,
I've got to say that Mike Getz is not helping your cause. Why would a guy in Beaumont criticize Dallas bloggers on our own League Blog site? Read his comments for yourself. I don't know the guy but he comes off pretty arrogant.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Regardless of weather the storm caused any problems for you or not,
I would be pretty short sighted to encourage people to travel on the Holiday, when the Highways are already congested with people leaving Louisiana.

Some of us are not as well off as Mike Getz, so paying for Gas and lodging when the weather situation is uncertain is foolish.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Shamus,

Your "tennis community" might be better off without Getz. Just something to think about!

    ReplyDelete
  37. Wow! I think I've been replaced as the most hated blogger, for the moment anyway. Welcome to the club Mike. As usual I don't think there are any negative comments about you from non-anonymous posters. Everybody who is posting their name has good things to say about you.

I'm still not driving to Beaumont though. Maybe if you guys get a major zone.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Counting Corey's post, I see two and both posters play tennis together.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Cary, how about a Sectionals thread? Week 1 preview thread of Fall league is not super exciting.

As a recommendation, in honor of the blog 1 year anniversary. How about combining this blog into a league and tourney blog? You sorta already have anyway. I vote to make it official.

    ReplyDelete
  40. how about renaming it "3.5s who dont know shit about tennis"

seems more appropriate given the comments and people involved

    ReplyDelete
  41. I'm not Getz. Agree he was foolish posting on this blog. And I'm not talking about tournament advertising. My recommendation was combining league talk and tourney talk on this blog.

I realize that is not the current definition Cary has put for this blog. He is the blog captain and he can decide. It's just a suggestion. At this point in time I find upcoming Sectionals more interesting than fall preview.

Don't confuse this poster with anything Getz related.

    ReplyDelete
  42. hey guys,

I will try and post tourney stuff when I can but to be honest when league is going it will always be 2nd banana.

Speaking of 2nd banana, I have family staying with us and they are sleeping in the computer room so a sectionals thread might not happen, I have just enough time to work on my own team but I will find time this weekend to look at some results.

Good luck to you all this weekend.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Can you believe some numb skull is criticizing an evacuation effort on the Dallas tennis blog? Talk about an arm chair quarterback. You know the kind!!!

    ReplyDelete
  44. I really cannot believe Mike Getz. He wants to let us know how brave he was not to evacute and after the fact he critizes the evacution designed to save lives. He wants to brag about his big house and tennis court. And he wants to criticize DALLAS league bloggers. (See the 3.5 thread.)Wow is that arrogant?

I say to hell with Getz, to hell with Beaumont and to hell with Beaumont tournaments

    ReplyDelete
  45. How about some 4.0 league talk. Cary what time is you match with Garland? Is it at Highpoint???

    ReplyDelete
  46. Cary,

Whatever you do - please don't come back from your Garland match and talk about how great your team is. If your team can't beat 8 3.5ers 5-0, then you are doomed.

    ReplyDelete
  47. With the weather we're having, I think I'll go fishing that weekend. Sorry Shamus. But come and play a tournament in Dallas some time. We have great folks up here.

    ReplyDelete
  48. we are playing at 2p at HP v. Garland. don't worry we won't brag but we will put our best effort no matter who the opponent is out there.

I will stay quiet but if you know me well enough, if we start winning over the next couple of weekends it is going get reallllly loud in hurrrr.

    ReplyDelete
  49. why can't Cary boast about beating 3.5 players in a 4.0 league. Lifetime is still patting themselves on the back about finishing 2nd in flight A by beating a bunch of 3.5 heavy teams.

    Cary, go get'em.

    ReplyDelete
  50. To Sept. 3 7:15 poster:

I played against him in doubs once, not in league play. And whether I won or lost doesn't matter (I actually was on the winning side). But he even said he will raise eyebrows. But I guess we'll see.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Hey guys, can one of you come to Beaumont and play teenis with me in my backyard?

    ReplyDelete
  52. I played Mike Getz in a tournament last year and got a couple bad calls at crucial times. Anyone else had the same experience with that guy?

    ReplyDelete
  53. I played Mike in a m.z. tournament this year and he has'nt changed.

    ReplyDelete
  54. How can a guy like Shamass ask us to come down and play the Beautmont tournament when one of his buddies Mike Getz is bashing Dallas league players? We are not as dumb as they think we are.

    ReplyDelete
  55. ALRIGHT.. THIS FULL BLOWN FOOTBALL SEASON.. SEE YOU DBAGS LATER.

    ReplyDelete
  56. I'm not responsible for any comments typed on here for anyone in my area. But if your going to try and make fun of my name come up with something original. Because i have yet to say anything negative about any one on this blog. My earlier blog notice was for those people who may have signed up for our Labor Day tournament and waht to do if they still wanted to play. What you and Mike say to each other is between you and him. I'm just trying to promote tennis.

Shamus Darden....oh sorry as stated earlier Shamass....wow, that was good. better luck next time. To the rest of you good luck at sectionals sorry I'm not there. And any one who knows me from any of these tournaments knows who writes this stuff, let them know i'm about to have my dogs nuts cut off, if they need them so they will actually post a name with their comments instead of hiding behind a computer keyboard i'll talk to the doc and mail them to him.
I didn't start it but I'll be glad to meet at any court and finish it.

    Shamass Darden

  57. nothing but steers and queers in Beaumont

    ReplyDelete
  58. sure act like it, as sensitive as they are.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Shameless Shamass,
This is the DALLAS LEAGUE blog. It is not intended for tournament advertisements. Next time use the Yellow Pages

    ReplyDelete
  60. Shamus was cool until 6:45pm. Now he is just a typical person from Beaumont.
