‘Vi Veri Veniversum Vivus Vivi’ – V for Vendetta

A little dramatic if I do say so myself.  And I’m pretty sure it wasn’t actually on the fifth of November that all this started, but close enough.  It all started when someone tried to change the rules retroactively.  Some of you may recall the introduction of Murray Langston to the blog with his inaugural post of Lord of The Ratings – The Return of The Kelly.  That first post wasn’t inspired by a relationship with He Who Shall Not Be Named, nor did it have anything to do with necessarily taking a side.  The issue was the memorable attempted coup of the NTRP system.  Regardless of whether the intentions were right or wrong, or whether the merits were right or wrong for that matter, it was just a reaction to an attempt to retroactively change the rules.

The DTA, USTA Texas and USTA National are making new rules every day and most of them are fine.  The biggest issue I see is when they try to address a unique issue with a rule that they didn’t fully understand.  And they don’t realize what the full effects will be.  Take last year’s move up/split up rule.  Worked for the one situation they were trying to address but had an adverse impact on a lot more situations that weren’t accounted for.  They had to immediately change it the very next season.  No one is immune to the issue.

Another big idea in Texas is weighted lines.  You may remember the survey that came out from USTA on the issue.  USTA Texas thinks weighting lines will somehow provide a speed bump that will slow down the traditional power teams in Texas.  They’ve already implemented this in Houston’s fall play going on right now.  Maybe I don’t get it, but if I have the best team I probably have the best singles player – and maybe the best doubles team too – how would this slow me down?  Looks to me like this will just make it easier for the best teams to dominate.

I’ve also been curious about the level of disclosure we get.  There seems to be a fear of giving people too much of a straight answer.  With tri-level having recently finished in Dallas, here’s a question.  Do you know whether tri-level results counted in your rating?  They’re pretty clear that low tri didn’t count, but do you really know whether high tri did or not?  I don’t care if it counts or not but why is this is a secret?

It would seem pretty straight forward – change the rules when you need to; do it publicly; don’t make them retroactive.

  1. First year anniversary of "THE MANUAL BUMP UP". Unfortunately It didn't stick and those captains who started the petition and top brass got a slap on the wrist when It was reversed and blew up in their face. Same person not to be named created the break up/split up rule with his mixed domination. Rumor is there is another "coup" in store for the EOY rating. Should be very interesting. I have a feeling this will be the granddaddy of all manual unjust bump up attempts. Thanks Murray for reliving this anniversary day as this will light the blog on fire. Long live the KING!

  2. The merits were right and the intentions were right. Yet, we needed to realize the ends don't justify the means. There was far more blow back than expected.

  4. Nope, what bothers me is the airtime this clown gets. He is a washed up has been who is on a 4.5 team that is 0 and 7. He cannot even beat Russell Holt in singles. He will never see or smell a sectional or national event again, unless at the 4.0 level. Never again at 4.5. Hundred better 4.5's in Dallas than him!!

    1. Mighty chatty about oneself today are we not? Show us what you have at tri-level again. Looks like Freeman brought a player into 3.5. If you don't win 4.5, you guys are failures.

  5. Dallas has never dominated the 4.5 line, why would this year be any different. Dallas will not get out of their flight.

    1. We've done fine at 4.5. We usually get our asses kicked at 4.0.

    2. This year won't be any different.

  6. 4.5 has done well at sectionals for years. 4.0 needs to step up

  7. When has 4.5 done well at sectionals? 4.0 has done just fine. 4.0 has not won sectionals recently but in the past few years they have lost twice in the finals to Houston. Making it to the final match is not getting your ass kicked.

    2. Hmmmm, seems last time Kelley took 4.5 serious was last time 4.5 Dallas went to nationals. Coincidence, probably.. Lol. See bashing below

  8. Last I checked Dallas was last Texas team to win trilevel. I think the 4.0 lines carried that team

    1. Did they win a line in Texas?

    2. I wasn't at sectionals but the 4.0s on that team went winless at cities. And a few of them are on Sisk's team now.

    3. Kingsley went winless at 4.0. Good thing he is at 4.5 now.

    4. Vince already called his shot. He ain't losing at 4.0!

    5. Really? I thought Vince was bumped down to 3.5?

  9. Hey Corey, can't your 4.0 score from yesterday posted? Did you win and win your group?

  10. Not sure if the K Clark 4.0 team has caught ebola or some other malady but there tennis game has really suffered. All of the former studs and many 4.5 bump downs are now strangely unable to win a match at 4.0

    Owen Wilson 0-5
    Sean Arcaria 0-4
    Doug Voss 0-3
    Tim Newman 0-4
    J. Yarbrough 0-3

Hope you guys all figure out what's wrong with your games soon. You all seem to have caught what M. Kelly has had for years.

  11. Looks like Freeman's might tri-level crew got beat in Houston this weekend. His 3.5s must suck. They included himself. I didn't even know he played. Now we know why.

    1. His noted cheater guy ringer mentioned above did a poor job of cheating. 3.5s went 1-3.

    2. He should have had Kelly on his roster. That would have helped his 3.5s.

  13. Ha ha! Fat Freeman thought he has the 3.5 under control in Tri Level. Freeman 3.5 players came from Pearland Poacher 3.5 team which control by his brother in law Steve Bridge (Ball Head). They are a bunch of looser. For the last four years, they all ways lost in sectional within two rounds.

2013 was a same for the Poacher, they lost all five courts in the City play-off Texas Topspin 3.5 and then lost the first round in Dallas. Some off their players left the team after Dallas because they are ashamed and humiliated of their stupid captain Steve Ball Head.

Little did Fat Freeman known that X-Men 3.5 players were actually came from Texas Topspin 3.5. They are not top 4.0 players but they play much better than his best 3.5. Freeman underestimated the X-Men team 3.5 players. He think he can came out to play with his partner Paul carrying him. Fat Freeman can not handle lefty serve and 4.5 lefty forehand. What's goes around will comes around. I watched the entire matches and was so glad that Freeman was humiliated.

HTA coordinator keep sending new players in town that are looking for team to Fat Freeman and Steve ball head for try out first. If they don't play like 4.0 players, they will send them to another team or said we have enough players or try against next year when you get better.

HTA is always in favor of Fat Freeman. This is the reason why most Houstonian don't want to play in the Tri Level or Combo.

The bottom line is Houston needs to fire or get rid off the current HTA coordinators because they are corrupted with Fat Freeman.

This is your down fall HTA, wake up and stop the corruption.

"I cam, I saw, and I was so glad" ha, ha, ha.
