Nothing Is A Given

Nadal lost to Rosol in the 2nd round of Wimbeldon in 2012.  He lost to Soderling in the 4th round of the French in ’09.  Other greats have stumbled.

I don’t want to compare Dallas tennis to the top tier of the ATP and not up to elaborating with a full post, but I feel the following warrants a separate thread and deserves a place for its own conversation.

GTC  LOSES TO ELDORADO

This coupled with the loss of HP/Le to Fair Oaks, QT becomes a lot more interesting, and 4.0 City Playoffs are wide open.

Based on this news, I wouldn’t be surprised if the spouses at Canyon Creek are already planning a post-season party for their play-off bound boys.

Let the bashing begin……

  1. This is obviously the tale of the 2 captains that failed. Both Sisk and Le have the rosters to win. They just underestimated their regular seaon competition and made piss-poor line calls.

    Hahaha. This is too funny!!

  2. I was hoping for a Star Wars theme. Perhaps a picture of Jaba the Hutt being choked.

    ReplyDelete
  3. It's far from over. If Le and Sisk can get their lineups worked out for the playoffs they still have the goods. Time to make the tough captaining decisions.

    ReplyDelete
  4. Yes it is over for one of them moron. Only one will emerge from the QT to City Playoffs. And if they make line-up calls like they have, good chance that neither of them advance.

    1. All depends on whether Fair Oaks beats Oak Creek. Or is that math too complicated for you?

    2. Fair Oaks should be Oak Creek. Not too complicated.

  6. Didn't you read the post? CC city champs victory party next weekend. You're not invited.

  7. Do the Canyon Creekers all wear their short shorts to the party?

    ReplyDelete

    1. Only short shorts I've seen in many years over at Canyon Creek are the ones their players hot wives wear or the one's your girlfriend wears when she's over at the Creek trolling for a man with a future.

      Delete
    2. Someone thinks highly of themselves.

      Delete
    3. Someone seems infatuated with guys in short shorts since this theme is a common dig you like to take...... I guess since you've been beaten up by Hans (from the other CC team) up and down enough times to taste the power of the short-shorts slice and dice, you're probably enjoying the new trend in professional tennis, and are relishing the leggy views the likes of Nadal and Berdych are showing you these days. Maybe we'll wear our wives skirts and come watch you play the QT matches just cause we like you so much.

  8. Instead of bashing Sisk & Le, let's give credit to Fair Oaks & Eldorado / JUST SAYING

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Yes - Fair Oaks and Eldorado deserve credit. However, Sisk & Le did not go with their top 8 or even top 10 players. That made the difference.

      Delete
    2. Well, who are Sisk and Le's top 8? That may be their best.

      Delete
    3. And if they didn't go with their top 8 I doubt it was by choice. You can criticize where they put their 8 but I'm sure both captains played the best 8 they had available.

      Delete
    4. Garland and Eldorado rescheduled their match from the regular date. They could have arranged any line-up they wanted. No excuses here. Bad captaining. However, it does show vulnerabilities and that they are not as strong or deep as everyone believed. Congrats to Eldorado --they should be solid competition in Cities.

  9. Would you put money on it?? If you don't see Flora in singles, sisk is cruising. Seth Bake, randy baker, ryan pace??

    1. When was the last time sisk lost a regular season match at 4.0? He may be slipping!

      Delete
    2. Looks like flora was in the lineup though. Not his fault he wasn't in singles. It was the only match that mattered and it didn't work. How can you cruise in that match?

      Delete
    3. So who are the two favorites to make sectionals now at 4.0?

      Eldorado and Bazan?

      Delete
    4. When Fair Oaks falls to Oak Creek Tony will be back in the drivers seat. If he can find someone to help him with his lineups between now and cities he really looks good. maybe bazan, maybe dawson

      Delete
    5. So if Tony's team is that good then he'll be in the mix at city anyway after winning the QT. If he is having to hope FO loses to OC so he doesn't have to face Sisk in QT, then he probably isn't as good as you think. Why are you so sure FO will lose to OC anyway?

      Delete
    6. Once again, CC is getting no respect. You guys will have to learn the hard way.

      Delete
    7. CC is awesome. My pick to win nationals.

      Boom. Respect.

      Delete
    8. CC respects themselves so much they don't need others to respect them.

      Delete
  10. I like Bazan and the Le/Sisk QT winner to advance to sectionals.

    ReplyDelete
  11. There are always idiots on this blog that make statements about teams that they have no clue about. The Le and Sisk teams are not as good as year's past mainly because they lack lock down singles. They are however the still the two best teams in the city when they have their top 8-10 available, but part of league is winning matches when you do not have everyone to play.

Fair Oaks and Eldorado have good teams and if you do not have your best players or if your best players do not play up to par they are good enough to beat the Le and Sisk teams.

These teams like CC and Bazan come on the blog and talk about how good their teams are and they get no respect. Well your rosters are the same rosters you have had year after year. The core players from each team are guys that have played 4.0 for a few years at a minimum. The players from Sisk and Le have beaten the players from your teams each year. Why is this year different? Neither have added ringers.

It will be interesting if it is Sisk and Le in the QT, and one of those teams will obviously win the QT and go on to sectionals as either the city champ or wild card. You can count on that.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Count youself as one of the idiots then since you are really only familiar with the Sisk and Le rosters....what do you really know about the other teams that are leading their flights. Have you ever played Morriswala, Ericsson, or Hubbard yourself. Seems to me these teams have added some talent, whether its 4.5 bump downs or 3.5 bump ups that don't really qualify as the same old teams you think you know so well.

      Delete
    2. The very fact that they are bump ups or bump downs says that they are known quantities. I watch out for the guys you've never heard of. If ou don't have them on your roster you'll only go so far.

      Delete
    3. Morriswala?? Wow that is funny. You have no idea.

      Delete
  12. Bazan does have some self rates.

    Aiken is a self rate
Hubbard is basically a self rate who either is not very good or tanked in the Fall at 4.5.

We will see come playoff time how good the Bazan team is.

By the look of it I agree it is Sisk/Le and Bazan to sectionals.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Should be the most interesting QT ever.

    ReplyDelete
  14. You guys can call Le, Pickett, Bender and Sisk cheaters etc, but you should see what goes in Houston. Freeman gets so many players to tank to get back to 4.0 each year after just playing 3 meaningless matches in the Fall.

Look up this name, Christopher Rossi.

This guy dominated at 4.5 in 2007. Comes back this year, plays 3 matches which he tanks and then gets a computer rating after just 3 matches. He is now winning open matches, and killing people at 4.0 and 4.5. He has guys tank year after year and somehow it is easy for the usta do grant bump downs.

    ReplyDelete

    1. So you are saying Dallas is SOL again? That is okay, we already knew it. If you didn't, you were never a factor.

      Delete
  15. Looks like Freeman and his boys are still pissed about losing trilevel back to back years to Dallas.

Keep cheating Freeman. Not sure how enjoyable or satisfying it is to have players cheat.

  16. From the Houston blog

Answer: Fall 2012 Team - 'Expendables'

Biggest cheaters in Houston tennis got together to manipulate rankings. Other teams started telling their players to go out and 'lose back'. It was so bad the last couple games of the season the opponents wouldn't even show up for the matches. Here's some of the cheaters that were tanking matches (results and opponents rankings very far outside of expected bounds based on other results) and the dates:

Robert Rizarri - Doubles matches 9/6, 9/13, Singles matches 9/17, 9/24, 10/1, 10/8 - Opponent was able to purposely lose worse
    Eddie Janek - 9/6, 9/27
    Christopher Rossi - 9/12, 9/20, 9/27
    Daniel Goodwin - 9/6, 9/20
    Ronnie Kwan - 9/6, 9/12, 9/13
    Robert Dornbos - 9/6, 9/12
    Richard Perreras - 9/20
    Ryan Reeves - 9/12
    Tuyen Nguyen - 9/13
    Nicholas Van Bemmelen - 9/12

Personally I think Houston tennis can do without any of these players and their manipulations. I would encourage captains to avoid adding any of these players with such low moral standards to their teams. In the HTA leagues (spring/fall) I would also encourage captains not to field lines against any of these players.

    ReplyDelete
  17. well said and thanks for the information.

A guy like Rossi, who when last played was a 4.5 and did not lose at 4.5 singles including playoffs. Comes back and only has to lose 3 matches in a meaningless fall season to get a 4.0C rating. Once he got his rating he is now winning at open and 4.5 yet has a 4.0 rating to play for Freeman.

Freeman is an embarrasment! He is the one captain that not only has these guys play for him but he encourages the tanking.

    ReplyDelete

    1. I am glad we can feel better about ourselves knowing we don't cheat as bad as Freeman. Personally, I think he doesn't cheat less, he just cheats better.

  22. Any speculation on the French Open? Looks like Joker and Nadal are in same bracket and could face each other in the semis. After round 3, Nadal could face Rosol again if he advances. That would be funny. Does Rosol give him a run or does Nadal punish him for the humiliation he caused him at Wimbeldon? Bottom half of the bracket isn't as interesting. Fed should cruize through only having to face Tsonga in quarters and most likely Ferrer in Semis.

    1. It's also b.s. that 3 Americans are in the same bracket facing each other in Round 2. Harrison and Isner face each other and would play Sock if he were to beat Haas. However Haas has been playing some awesome tennis lately, especially for an old fart at 35.

  35. Looks like Tony Le almost blew another match and a chance at the QT. Line 3 dubs win in a tight 3 setter. Trying to get all of his boys is a tougher thing to do than he thought. Tells you there ain't much depth there as everyone once believed.

    3. One of them will be the Underwhelming King after QT and the other is still in the running for sectionals. QT will finally matter.

      Delete
    4. The match had no impact on QT Einstein, just as the last match is meaningless. We will be going to the QT and Fair Oaks will win the flight as they deserve to.

Unlike many of you, we are not playing to just make cities as most of us have been there multiple times. We are playing to win sectionals. If we cannot win QT then we would not be good enough to make a dent at sectionals. As we look at it we get an extra weekend of tennis and hopefully get a chance to play you CC, FO, and Bazan teams who think you are legends by just winning your flight.

Nice win Noel team and very nice comeback by your line 1 this week.

      Delete
    5. Sure it could have. If you would have lost this match and next week, there would be a chance you would be out. Now with this win, your upcoming week is meaningless. Regardless, it doesn't appear there was any tanking going on or any need to with computer rated players playing. Yet, you had 3 lines go to third set breakers with a mediocre team. A couple of your players were late adds to your roster. That's not impressive depth to fight through 4 matches in QT and then Cities.

      Delete
    6. I agree with you, it was not an impressive win by us at all.

  36. A big congrats to "Hollywood" for keeping his perfect record in tact through the 5.0 season! And for the "mixed is for sissies" comment. Find a guy with your same rating and come out and play me with my mixed partner. You should win, but you can see that it's good tennis. But, imagine if you get beat. My partner is a 3.5 by the way. Will you except th challenge?

  55. 4.0 play-off question -
If QT includes the five second place teams and the 3 best third place teams, how are the last three determined?
For example if it is third place team's team records then lines won/lost it would be LB Houston, Springpark (thanks to Brookhaven default line), and Huffhines.
However, Fretz had a better record than Huffhines and if all the teams were simply ranked regardless of flight, Fretz would have been the last team in.
If you go on lines won/lost only (not team wins/losses), then the three teams would be Oak Creek/Rich, LB Houston, and JCC.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. You have to finish 3rd in your flight. Then ranking is by lines won, sets lost, games lost.

      Delete
    2. Does that mean 5-3 28-12 Oak Creek/Rich would be ahead of 6-2 LB Houston?
I would have thought that since all flights played an even number of matches, the first consideration would be the team win/loss record.
Usually, ignoring team win/loss record only occurs when there are flights with different number of matches played.

      Delete
    3. Its the best record finishing third in your flight. OC would not make it at 5-3.

It would be Huffines, LBH, and Springpark as all are 6-2.

      Delete
    4. The poster above said ranking is by lines won.
Oak Creek/Rich finished third in and was 28-12, better than any other third place team.
I agree that 5-3 teams would be below 6-2 teams, but that is not what is stated above.

      Delete
    5. Also not fair for Fretz. They were 6-2 and would be slightly ahead of Huffhines (games lost)
If all teams were ranked 1-40 based on record (team wins/losses, then lines won, sets lost, games lost) they would be number 8, not Huffhines, correct?

      Delete
    6. They are not all ranked 1-40. You finished 4th in your own flight. Get over it, you don't belong in QT if you cannot even get into the top 3 of your own flight.

      Delete
    7. Let me guess, you must be from Huffhines...
BTW, I don't play for Fretz.

      Delete
  56. Better question, why did DTA opt to include third place teams instead of finally having a round robin QT with no flights?

    ReplyDelete

    1. Last year was just a single round robin wasn't it?

With five flights this season, why not just a five team round robin?

  57. $450 hotel bill, $200 food bill, $100 gas bill for mixed sectionals..... Watching Kelley get ripped on blog... PRICELESS!

  58. For the 9:11 post. We had 4 teams. Kelly played 5 matches. All but 2 people played 4 matches. We played in San Antonio. They could have played their entire team. They had no travel. What other excuses can you use. The bottom line is that we had the best team. And I hate to say this, buts it's because we play Dallas city leagues. Brookhaven would have won sectionals if they would have won Dallas. They were the toughest matches we had all season.

    1. Thx, those are kind words. I am on the Brookhaven team and it is so frustrating playin Kelley. It is impossible to predict the next shot, and if you do it is never hit in an area that you are comfortable hitting from. If you serve and volley a lob is coming, if u stay back he pounds the baseline and comes in. Go at his woman and he puts her in alley and plays singles....can't stand him but respect his game...

  59. Agree w 1:33, SA played in their home city w everybody cheering for them in final. They slept at home w no travel and were familiar w the courts. Why does everybody keep hammering the fact Dallas won?.. Be proud for Alan and Springpark, that is a major accomplishment, seems they do it year after year but still very difficult to achieve.

    1. Sure seems like Dallas teams should do a lot better at regular Sectionals, then.

      Delete
    2. They should but not having a dominant men's player that guarantees a win hurts Dallas. The last year Kelley played men's and took it seriously they went to nationals .... He has not played a men's match that he took serious since. There are many good players currently, but In need of a clutch player and no one to fill that role.

  60. Better ? is does Sisk use his free pass from the fall. He had at least 4 guys bumped to 4.5 & if they can be utilized for the QT & cities then what does he do????? Can he combine both squads - what are the rules - anyone know???

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. No - he cannot use players from the Fall that got bumped at year end.

      Delete
  61. He can if they move down mid season

    1. Wrong, YE bump up would not be eligible for the Spring playoffs.

  62. How about this, he can only play who is on his roster lol

  65. A belated congrats to the High Point Le team for beating up on the Lakes 3.5 team, you got a clean sweep against some barely average 3.5 players, I am kind of surprised you are not on the blog touting your tennis prowess, thats what yall normally do.

    1. Someone sounds bitter. Don't complain when you are playing out of level. Your 4.0 players are more like 3.5 too. You guys could have made a serious run at last place in the 3.5 QT.

      Delete
    2. I woudn't exactly say a 5 - 0 win over average 3.5's where two lines went to 3rd set breakers and another was 4 and 4 was any kind of a statement.

    2. When has a Le team member come on an bragged about a regular season league match? Someone has some hostility that they were not asked to play on the Le team.

    3. Playing on a Le team is an honor and a privilege ..

      Delete
    4. Le and honor should never be used in the same sentence.

      Delete
    5. You guys also said we would fail at trilevel when in fact we were two sets from winning and beating the team that won nationals this year. Do not underestimate a Le captained team.....

      Delete
    6. As a matter of fact had Kelley not played against us in finals we would have won sectionals and advanced to nationals w a great chance to win it all.

      Delete
    7. Had you not lied about your scores, you wouldn't have been in the finals. Since that helped you advance, I guess that was good captaining.

      Delete
    8. Bottom line we were 2 sets from nationals

      Delete
    9. Lol!!! Surely you are not a real Tony Le player. I know a lot of those guys and they are good guys and they aren't douchebags. We were 'sets away from nationals' has to be just to make Le's boys look bad.

      Delete
    10. I'd bet you were just two sets away from winning most of your matches

  68. New question now that the season is over. (Concerning the 4.0 league) What was more annoying to you: a) playing 4.5 players or b) playing 3.5 players.

    1. I didn't see any 4.5s this year. Houston is going to embarrass us this year.

    2. Half the 3.5s think they're 4.0. Half the 4.0s play like they're 3.5. What's the difference.

  71. Unbelievable on tennis channell!.. They just showed a small 5 minute piece on Sharapova and one of the clips of her working out showed mike Kelly and Jason Moore playing on a court next to her at Indian wells!!!!!! .....unfreakin believable!!!! 78. Oh wow old hater, Did you notice H.P. Jameson won a match? You said they were the worse team ever. To bad Lakewood was busy Duchin at match time and got the hose stuck where the sun doesn't shine. Maybe they will pull it out next year? LOL

    1. Still the worst tanking team this year. They should be ashamed they didn't tell four guys on the team what was going on.

    2. Tanking, maybe... but those players are still really bad.

      Delete
    3. They've been to Nationals more times than you and they'll be back again before you. They're tanking now so they can go back at seniors.

  81. Here is my contestants for 4.0 spring tankers of the season. Mark Myers and Bo Mcnulan (or whatever his name is) from High Pt. Jameson and Rene Alzuro from Greenhill. I know none of these 3 are all that good but come on guys at least try and look competitive, your scores this spring are above embarrasing!

    ReplyDelete
  82. Worthy candidates but Jameson is 1-15 since year end ratings came out and he's better than both those guys. Unfortunately, Alzuro is trying his best.

  83. Since no one looks to have two singles ringers there will likely be a lot of splits when the good teams play. Who's got good enough doubles to win two limes? Eldorado's top two doubles have looked pretty good.
