4.5 & 5.0 update

4.5 mid-season update:

These are the teams that appear to have a shot at the play-offs:

  1. High Point/ Le 4&0 (still have GlenEagles & Royal Oaks ahead) flight C
  2. Brookhaven/ Goswami 5&0 (still have Lakes & Village to play) B
  3. JCC 5&0 (Still have Oak Creek/ Herget ahead) A
  4. GlenEagles 4&0 (High Pt & Sisk) C
  5. Fair Oaks 4&1 (BHaven/ Harlee) A
  6. Lakes/ Way 4&1 (BHaven/ Goswami) B
  7. Village 3&2 (already in QT via Fall win) B
  8. Oak Creek/ Herget 4&1 (JCC & Brookhaven/ Harlee) A
  9. Royal Oaks 3&1 (Sisk & High Pt) C
  10. Sisk 3&1 (Royal Oaks and GlenEagles) C
  11. Brookhaven/ Harlee 4&1 (Fair Oaks & Oak Creek) A
  12. TBar 3&2 (Greenhill & Village) B
  13. Greenhill 3&2 (TBar) B
Technically still in it are Canyon Creek 4&1; Collin College 3&2, Oak Creek/ Myrick 3&2 but they are behind the 8 ball re schedule remaining and tiebreakers

Likely flight winners & automatic to Cities at this stage appear to be:
A: JCC
B: Brookhaven/ Goswami
C: winner of High Pt vs GlenEagles
+ QT winner

Correction to previous post: QT will have 6 teams! 2nd place teams plus Village plus next 2 best 3rd place teams

5.0:

I believe there is a 3 team play-off.  With the Village winning a close match this past weekend over Oscar's Tbar team, I believe they will now get a bye and play either TBar or the 3rd place finisher for a shot at Sectionals. That looks to be Corey's Fair Oaks team!  What a season Corey is having with a strong 4.0 team, great 4.5 team and likely 5.0 play-off team.

Of course they have to beat the formidable Oak Creek/ Monkee team.....

{what a joke!  I am very disappointed (although not surprised) with what Joel is conspiring here.  It's the worst kept secret in Dallas that he is trying to get Phy, Jean, Almazan & Kelly all down at 4.5 to make a run at nationals 4.5 next year.  I don't understand it.  It can't be any fun!  All of those guys would be extremely successful at 5.0 - they are great players.  Hell, Jean did well at Sectionals for the Blumberg team last year!  Why not play the best competition every week? It is pathetic!  My nativity thought they had turned over a new leaf but the fall and now this spring's antics indicate otherwise!  Everyone of them should be embarrassed! To those of you that play on their teams, whether you tank or not, remember that other's perception of you is influenced by the company you keep........

As a result Fair Oaks is a shoe in to take 3rd and showdown vs Tbar}

  1. What don't you understand Rossouw, seriously? All these same cheats have been at it for years at all the different levels and people keep commenting on it yet Dallas Tennis or the USTA will never do anything about it so it has become a well known and publicized joke. Kelly has become the symbol for it. No different than big bird and bender tanking the other day. Ask them personally, they will laugh about it. It's pretty well known who the captains are around here that foment it. It wouldn't be too hard to fix. You'll never get rid of it all together but you can sure slow it down. So why even bother to post the topic about your disappointment? It's a joke and the cheaters will never change, they'll just keep coming up with excuses to justify it so they can have their little shot at nationals. Surely they couldn't do it at their true levels.

    1. I hear you and agree (unfortunately). What I don't understand is why they would want to play at a lower level than their ability? (yes it's a redundant question) I want to play and test myself against the best I possibly can... if I lose I know I need to improve. I also do not understand wasting my time or someone else's in a worthless contest.... Almost everyone of us has a family and job - time is a valuable commodity.

    2. could not agree more Marc. I think it is OK to keep throwing it out there. Maybe a group to combat it could call each opponent beforehand and tell them to tank right back.

      Delete
    3. Sorry to disappoint you big bird lovers and conspiracy theorist, but I have no reason to tank. Haven't played since February because of knee issues and wasn't ready to go 100%. Was a fill in so we wouldn't default a line. Anyone who has played with me knows my partner has to carry me. Fed himself couldn't of carried me my past matches. Besides, who gives a crap about 3.5.

    4. Yes, just like Marc said. Do not let these national title holders hang around you or your team, they are a terrible influence...you will be looked upon as a loser and tanker yourself!

    1. Off course its true. Last week Jean and Phy lost to Vince Kingsley 2 and 2. It is blatant tanking. Joel will never comment on this.

      Delete
    2. Kingsley will likely get bumped up as a result. Joel and gang are such aholes.

      Delete
    3. That really is one of the problems. The guys tank and it hurts the guys that beat them. Their rating goes up as a consequence and its a shame.

      Delete
    4. The bump up might happen to someone on the edge but I am pretty sure Kingsley is safe.

  5. If they would just do away with Fall, then tanking wouldn't even bother me. Then someone would only be out of level every other year at best. Seems like it wouldn't be worth it. Then if they tank during the spring and don't get bumped down they have to tank a second year in a row. I bet that would cut out 75% of it.

    ReplyDelete
  6. Keep the fall, just don't have it count towrards ratings.

    1. Yeah that's what I meant to say.

      Delete
    2. Then you would not have as many playing in the fall and that would cut down on $$$ for USTA and DTA... Do you really see that happening?

      Delete
  7. I for one want to compliment Marc for calling out the main cheaters! It only takes one honest man to speak up to hopefully start the change. If Joel, Jean, Phy, Almazan and M. Kelly dont mind putting up with the shame that comes from being called out as the out and out cheaters they are then I am not sure how much else can be done.

Obviously they appear to have some thick sking and they have been called out about it before and seem to be just fine with it, I just dont understand how they can look themselves in the mirror everyday.

I can't wait for them or all there little buddys to come on here and defend them, and talk about what a bunch of losers the rest of us are because we choose to do our best (however good that is). Just because we choose to as Marc puts it "just play and test myself against the best" and see where I stack up.

  8. Kaiser, first of all if you werent playing well then why go play line one (tanking), second it wasnt 3.5 it was a 4.0 match, thirdly you a 3.5 with a 4.0 partner vs. another 3.5 and 4.0 partner and that is your legit score??? I doubt it, plus you partner (Bender) has been to more nationals that Fed himself and you still couldnt get a couple more games than that and at least make it look like you guys were trying? Legit or not its guilt by association when your hooked up with the grandfather of cheaters Bender!

  9. There a few decent 4.0 matches this week.

    Oak Creek/Head v Fretz/Jarayam both have 1 loss. I don't think Jarayam gets Head.

High Point/Le plays McKinney/Oh, both have only 1 loss. I guess Le yawns through this one but he yawned through last week.

McKinney/Bazan v Huffhines/Prather in 1 vs 2. Bazan is quietly racking up lines and may be the team to beat.

I heard Sisk is already down 1-0 in the 'rescheduled' El Dorado match. Could Sisk and Le be fighting it out at QT for a place at cities?

    ReplyDelete

    1. That loss would be on Flora's doubles line then.....I think you're right, Le and Sisk will be battling it out QT weekend in the heat, while El Dorado and Fair Oaks are sipping some cool ones. Good news is he truly doesn't care about winning so he does not affect other teams that try to win or the outcome of the league. However, if u want to win you need him to play to get your team to nationals, like it or not

    9. I totally disagree with this!Go and look at those guys records and try again:
Durten has hardly lost a men’s match in the past 3 years! 1 was with Rothwell, one with me in a close 5.0 match and 1 with Christian O’Connor who hardly ever plays tennis and was incredibly rusty! (I was there and watched that match)
Paul Kiron is making a comeback to tennis from 2 rounds of Chemo – that will impact anyone’s results! It's great to see him back on the court!
Chris Slezak has had significant elbow problems over the past few years and is trying to make a comeback. He has distanced himself from the tankers listed – in fact if you go back a few years you will see that his questionable results were all with the players listed.....good guy, fits well with the chemistry of our team.

    2. Everyone just needs to accept the fact there are two leagues. Teams aimming for nationals and teams aimming to do well at the city level. Getting to the city tournament is a great goal for teams that aren't aimming for nationals. We can all argue how shitty it is for some players to play out of level, but nothing is going to change until Fall league no longer counts.

I'm not on one of those elite teams, but I accept it for what it is.

To those individuals that have beaten Michael Kelly who feel he has given less than 100% effort , please reply to this w full name and phone number and we will present this to the USTA. You may be called to testify against him. We are hoping to show he has been failing to play up to his 5.5 ability. We appreciate your candid and swift response to this matter as he must be dealt with quickly and severely as this is a very important matter in the tennis society. We invite local captains to join in and begin a thorough investigation as to his true tennis ability. With enough signatures we might even be able to adopt a law forbidding him never to play tennis at a lower level again. This is of paramount importance. Drop everything you are doing and reply w your contact info. A local captain will be calling you at any time.
    See you on the courts!

What a waste of time and effort, if you are worried about a guy hanging around at half a hundred playing out of level you need your head examined. The reason he wins is he considers not winning nationals a failure while everyone else just wants to get to the QT in cities. Say what you want but what it takes to win at the levels he has done consistently is VERY admirable. Just keep hating if it makes you feel better. Most of the people hating have no clue to what it takes to win almost every big match you play.... But keep trying to win your city league

  58. It would almost be impossible to put a team together in Dallas with players that have not tanked in the past. Bender, Sisk, Somabut etc. etc. and their desciples Pickett, Le, Capt. Fan. etc. etc. have convinced many a people to join the cause and keep spreading the poison. There are many re-born agains that have realized it's wrong and have changed their ways, unlike the aformentioned and their group that keep at it. So stop trying to justify yourselves and making it ok just cause Roussow has some players that have done it in the past. Tanking, changing scores, etc. it's all the same BS. Justify away cheating bitches.

  61. No out of level players=no deep playoffs!! Stick to qt or 3rd in cities and have fun. Any National titles in men's adult 4.5-4.0 in Dallas or Texas??? Not even Freeman!!

    ReplyDelete
  62. Not condoning anything but most players in Dallas have no idea how hard these captains work that have success in multiple years. Look at all the one&done captains out there. It's not hard to be mediocre every year. What you should be mad about is people poaching your best players.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Totally agree, without people like Kelley you can't even get to nationals... Keep trying to win cities and set your sights small.

      Delete
  63. The teams that win Dallas and compete well at sectionals all have captains that work their ass off. You can call it cheating, sandbagging, or whatever - but it is hard work. If they really are cheating or breaking some set of rules then file a greivance and provide your evidence and how that evidence violates a particular DTA, Texas or USTA rule.

The easy part is sitting behind your computer and call others cheaters. That is no difficult and doesn't take any time, effort or thought. If you are really worked up about it then work as hard at getting these "cheaters" bumped up, DQ'd or whatever...but you won't do that, you'll just sit back and complain. Like I said, its easy.

The same captains that have won in the past will continue to win. It won't change. And the reason is, whether you like it or not, is because they work harder than you do.

I'm not saying there isn't some shady business going on and I'm not defending actual cheating. I'm just saying, prove it. Go ahead, blast away, but it is the truth.

  64. The point is it shouldnt have to come down to "working as hard at getting these cheaters bumped up" what happened to good old fashion integrity, honesty and just doing the right thing. You know kind of like how those of us that are parents try and instill those qualities into our kids. Is that to hard a concept for you to grasp?

  68. How about David Terrell? At 4.0 for 2013 season he was 0-4 in the fall but 4-0 in the spring.

    1. His buddy Andrew Clayton Schultz was 9-1 in playoff matches last year and in the fall was 1-3. Now that is tanking.

    2. Andrew Clayton Schulz partner Manuel Marta-Diaz was 8-1 and they have wins over Kingsley/Partner and Yaremenki/Partner then go a beautiful 0-3 in the fall and get his game back to be 2-0 this spring. Fine work men!!!

    3. Can't have Voss on a list without Newman.

  71. Worst tanking team? High Point Jameson, not even close. Bent Tree has a worse line record and Sisk2 is close but they are just bad. Jameson's team has managed to win only 4 out of 30 lines. Nine guys on that team have been to nationals at least once.

    ReplyDelete
  72. Pretty sure those guys are just that bad.

  73. I have long suspected Kelly Michaels of tanking, especially when he had his a$$ handed to him by Bruno Braga. I've heard his captain said "we don't need your d@mn match."

  74. Why get on Kelley, he is not affecting the outcome of any 4.5 league nor has he caused any trouble, can't a guy go out and work on his game w out worrying about the score. I think it is admirable what he is doing, having fun and practicing

  75. This is not rocket science people!... If Kelly or any of these characters tank just tank back or even better, just retire!...all of these bloggers talk smack about that's what they would do but nobody ever does it!.. Guess having a win over Kelley makes you feel like a bad a$$. Just retire and eventually he will get tired of that.. Case closed!

    1. Seems pretty easy. One of my players tells me he was winning his match but retired because he felt morally obligated to do so. Because he read it on a blog from someone he doesn't know. Yeah, that guys probably not in the lineup any more.

    2. Sometimes I wonder if these people want a win so bad, they are trying to shame people into defaulting.

  77. It's easy to see when the Kelly/Phy/Pickett/Jean crew posts.
All they can do is try to deflect attention to other teams.
They know they can't even begin to defend their own tanking.

  84. Corey should be mad at Russo for saying Corey's team was a shoe in ( russows words) for the playoffs bec they were playing Phy monkeys team...should have waited til after this week to blast and call out Kelley , may cost Corey a spot in the big dance, instead he can stay home and watch reruns of GIlligans Island!...

  88. If I wuz Corey I try to avoid playing Kelly, go in there and keep a low profile and be really nice so he tanks. If Hawkins and Coredoggy play Kelley they will be watching the playoffs from the bleachers bec he will try just hard enough to win

  90. He won't take a line from Corey. Think about it. If they want to beat Corey's team in one line they can't . Kelley will not play their 5.5 singles guy and risk beating him, nor would he win doubles bec he stays back and try's to play singles. Corey's doubles teams are solid top to bottom. Welcome to 5.0 Kelley, you will find it tough sledding, your half ass effort won't work in this league .... Lol

  94. If more people were willing to tank then the league would be more competitive. Just saying.

    ReplyDelete
  95. That is a true statement.

    ReplyDelete
  96. Just make a 4.5-5.0 league, half the 5.0 players are 4.5's anyway

    ReplyDelete
  97. 10:22 is right. If I play a top guy and he is tanking his way back down and he is having a bad day then there is a good chance that I can beat him. That would make me feel really good about myself but if I wanted to change teams then I could tell my new captain about that win. That should earn me a spot on their next spring team or move me up to line 2 doubles of my existing team. Either way, I would have a team that worshiped me and that's a win win. Don't you agree too?

  98. True confessions of a tanker:

I earn, on average, $375/hr (including work I do aside from my weekday job) on a 30 hour week. I spend nearly 15 hours per week on the tennis courts (including match times). I live in a mansion on an estate in a prestious city (not Highlsnd Park or University Park). If I didn't tank then my wife, who retired 9 years ago from her $975 per hour job (50 hour per week including overtime, at the age of 50), would have to come out of retirement because I would have to double my time on the courts to play at a higher level and that would take time away from my work. That, my friends, is not fair to me or my wife. Until I start cashing checks on Mondays for my play on weekends then.............. You crybabies should just play weeknight league matches out of your local tennis center or mixed doubles at TDC or something you can handle. I heard those leagues can be competitive tennis and most centers give out participation trophies, if that is what you are looking for. Let's face it, the league doesn't begain until the citiy championships and you won't be there and it wasn't much fun playing you to get there. Kind've like real life isn't it. Sorry, but life left you short.

    ReplyDelete
  104. You beat me to the post, see it is not that easy to play your best every match!

    ReplyDelete
  105. You see Kelley and Federer similar. Both have national titles and both seem to only play hard in big events at clutch times. As a matter of fact Kelly has an indirect win over Federer. Kelly beat Petrova in a 10 pt breaker at Indian Wells, Petrova beat Benjamin Becker in a mixed tourney in Brussels, Becker beat Agassi at US Open, and Agassi beat Federer. Yet Kelly struggles in league matches, must be all about the sectional and national events.... Kinda Fed like
