Rain, Rain, Go Away

This is the time of year it pays to be a member at Brookhaven or other clubs with indoor courts. Question is, are those teams taking advantage of practice time in the indoor courts while the rest of us twiddle our thumbs waiting for a break of sunshine.

3.5 Flight A - Battle of the Barn Boys; 3-1 Brookhaven Alzuro takes on 4-0 Westlake at Brookhaven. Both clubs have barns to practice in. Does Alzuro have the barn booked for the weekend and can their home barn advantage give them the edge to get a win ??

3.5 Flight B - HP Entrekin hosts Huffhines. HP's first true test ??

3.5 Flight C - May as well keep raining. Sleeper flight with the top 3 teams (3-0 Oak Creek, 3-0 Brookhaven & 2-1 Sam Grand) taking on the bottom 3 winless teams (Eldorado, Lifetime, LB Houston).

Sunshine is in the forcast for Saturday and Sunday. Hopefully some matches will be played. With time off of the courts, it should be interesting to see if any impact is made to the results of this weekend.

Hey Cary, is this where you went fishing ???

  1. Board is dead with no drama. This spring was the best season ever.

    ReplyDelete
  2. Very dead. At 3.5 GTC will not lose and that one is decided.

4.0 is more interesting but Cary is on sabbatical.

4.5 may be interesting but Corey is too busy giving lessons in the rain.

  3. I am tired of hearing the Garland is unbeatable. HP was a third set tiebreaker from beating them.

    ReplyDelete
  4. Not really. Pat Jamesson can never beat Greg Wiley in doubles. Now that GTC added Zach stein as well, that is really a 4-1 win if we were to redo the match today Plus whomever else they have lurking the background in singles, as obviously they threw a scab out there to play against Macfarland and line 1, and missed the line up. 4-1 or 5-0 if they play again.

    ReplyDelete
  5. Actually, I have lost to Pat in doubles before. Who is Macfarland that is plsying singles?

That match against HP was very close. Their singles players beat ours straightup and we eeked out a 3rd set tiebreak. It could have gone either way.

    ReplyDelete
  6. How about this week-ends predictions also a rain make-up between Huffhines -Gleneagles Saturday!!! Should be an interesting week-end of play. Garland adding Zack Stein is no big deal-look at his Spring record!!!

    ReplyDelete
  7. GTC swept HP doubles with no third set tiebreaker that I can see. I think all 3 double lines went only 2 sets each.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Zach is still better than most 3.5 singles guys out there this fall. He is an upgrade for sure.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Line 3 went to a third set tiebreak. Moghe and Morriswala are good players and before the match I thought we might lose that line. Cope and Peters did a good job getting that win and we obviously needed it.

If Jameson gets his best players every week, they will be formidable in the playoffs. Of course, if you cannot get your 8 best when you need them, it makes the lineup much tougher.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Looks like after Clark/Keener won the Brookhaven 3.5 doubs tournament last weekend they recruited the team they beat in the finals Taylor/Goll to play on the durty garland 3.5 team. Not sure why anyone would want to be the 20 & 21st players on a team but whatever...

    ReplyDelete
  11. My guess is after they lose4 lots of players to the fall bumpup, they will need them for the spring. I think that is pretty smart. They definitely lose Wiley/Clark among a few others. Wire/Guttierez probably get bumped. Connelly probably gets bumped too.

  12. 11:25 AM Poster --

As I said in last blog post..... eventually, we will all be playing for Garland.

    ReplyDelete
  13. 1:50 poster---On the money!! It is not to soon to think about the Spring. As for the Anon who thinks 20-21 players is too much........it is alot, but talent and number are key. Somabut just got back from Nationals-ended 3rd in the Country- had a roster of 20+ players. Not all traveled or played, but it is nice to have depth if needed.

I'm glad 1:50 poster is awake--if you and Cpt. Fantastic are available, I can use creativity and another thinker on the team.

Cary, if you want to help me co-cpt my 4.0 team to keep the thread current, welcome!!

    ReplyDelete
  14. Hey John, If everybody who plays on your team loves you so much, just curious as to why Wiley joined another 4.0 team instead of your "farm" team... just seems a little wierd with all the love going around at the GTC.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Why don't you let me answer the previous one.

First, I have a long relationship with the team I joined. Also, my children have 2 or 3 soccer games every Saturday and my ability to play on Saturday is very limited. I did not intend to play but Blake needed another player or they were risked defaulting. I said if the time was right I could fit it between soccer games and may have some availability certain weeks if needed. This is not about being happy or unhappy but just playing tennis. Regardless, with the distance between my house and GTC, trying to fit tennis in between soccer games would be nearly impossible.

While I enjoy playing tennis (inspite of this blog), tennis is secondary to my wife and children. My children's soccer games come before USTA tennis league matches.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Taylor and Goll will be fine. Its not about being the 21st roster addition in the fall. Its about being in the top 8 by the spring, and one of them could do that.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Has this become the John Sisk call in blog? Surely there's something else to talk about.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Who is Tyalor and Goll? did they play on a team last season? Guess their real 3.5's since nobody is yelling ringer! Self rate!

    ReplyDelete
  19. Predictions!!

There actually should be some tennis played this weekend, hopefully 2 matches for many of these teams! Huffines will be beat undefeated HP in a tight one, LTF will go to 0-4, and Fretz will continue its rebound.

    Flight A

    DCC 3-2 over Royal Oaks
    Westlake 3-2 over BH
    GTC 5-0 over Hackberry
    Stonebridge 4-1 over Sprinkpark
    HP 4-1 over CC

    Flight B

    Huffines 3-2 over HP
    GlenEagles 3-2 over OC
    Fretz 4-1 over GH
    Stonebriar 4-1 over Stonebridge

    Flight C

    BH 5-0 over El Dorado
    OC 3-2 over LTF
    SamGrand 4-1 over LBH
    CC 3-2 over JCC

  20. I was wondering who coyote was. I now get it. Wiley Coyote !!

    nice handle!

    ReplyDelete
  21. Stein is a solid player and a MZ winner,
He should have been bumped up with the last class.
There should be no "non-self-raters" that can beat him in the fall.
Spring when everyone appeals down again, that's a different story.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Stein is beatable just like everyone else playing 3.5.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Thanks for the handle props. I have been called it about a zillion times so I adopted it.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I thought Wiley could'nt play singles??????????? Give gtc the trophy already

    ReplyDelete
  25. With GTC playing Wiley at singles, I think that shows you how desperate they must be.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Yeah, Gtc is desperate and they are no good. They are lucky, not good, to be 5-0. Durty Garland stinks and everyone else stinks worse.

Gtc's self-rates will come out Dec.11, well after end of year ratings come out. Take it to the bank. haha

    ReplyDelete
  27. GTC wont be touched outside of Clark/Wiley and possiblly Stein nobody knows what they have on their roster of 21plus as different names play every week and different names win each week. You would think team captains that need a solid dub line would be reqruiting off this roster.Offering more playing time and the chance to help put the team over the top.

    ReplyDelete
  28. if the lure is more playing time they will be recruiting the bottom half of the roster. the balanced playing time will fall off in the cities. tough to get over the top with that.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I imagine that alot of those players will be gone in the spring. If not, Sisk will have to make 2 3.5 teams.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Some of those guys have been on his 3.5 team forever and always will be. They play in two matches every year. That's about it. Take them out of the mix, take his year end bump ups out of the mix, and now he has a manageable team.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Bet Huffines would of gone to nationals if they would of had some of gtc's dub players and not the gtc main two bud teams. There is lots of hidden dub talent on gtc roster that may want to play more then once or twice a season.

    ReplyDelete
  32. GTC will probably have several moved up at year end. Clark/Wiley are the most obvious but Connelly and Peters (not sure who this guy even is but he has won all of his matches and he is a self rate). MacFarland will probably get moved up too.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I don't see anything on MacFarland's record that would suggest that he will be moved up,
His winning percentage looks around 60%

    ReplyDelete
  34. Sam/Grand got hit today with a DQ. Ferdinand Schoen has to forfeit all of his matches. He was an automatic win. Rumor was that he was on a national team in Germany. This will hurt their team a lot.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Yeah, Huffines would have rolled those Austin teams if they just had two guys that didn't play post-season for Garland. Are you serious?

    ReplyDelete
  36. Garland could have used some of Garland's unused players that Huffhines needed so bad.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Huffines just needed 1 automatic doubles team

    ReplyDelete
  38. Why all the talk about last season let"s talk about what happening now in the fall. Garland seems to have the best team but lots of tennis still to be played.I still have a contending team and hope to make it back to the playoffs.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Agree on Huffines just needing one automatic doubles team, just didn't realize Garland had them sitting on the sidelines during the playoffs. What was John thinking? More importantly, who were they? We should all go recruit them.

    ReplyDelete
  40. what I think was being said was what was on garlands dub bench is better then what huffines had on their line 2 or 3 maybe even line 1 dubs. Has gtc lost any dub matches this season?

    ReplyDelete
  41. You're right. Garland has doubles depth. But Anon 1:16 is crazy. 'Bet Huffines would of gone to nationals if they would of had some of gtc's dub players and not the gtc main two bud teams.'

    ReplyDelete
  42. So to decide the fall champion we'll have Huffines spring 2/3 dubs lines play Garland's spring bench. Can we move on to what's going on now?

    ReplyDelete
  43. This is fun who was on gtc's spring bench?

    ReplyDelete
  44. Why wouldnt a captain try to recruit some of gtc's bench to put with some of their own better players? Outside of wiley/clark seems that all the rest are equal abilities. Then i guess thats easier said then done.

    ReplyDelete
  45. I would like to know who was on Garland's bench that was better than Jones/Molina. If Garland had someone better, I bet Ed would have welcomed them with open arms and so would Garland... as would have any other 3.5 team in the US.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Recruiting Garland's bench is an interesting strategy until you play Garland.

From spring, you could get Tommy Coleman, Robert Cecil, Kerry Keener, Jim Ward, or Danny Man. Those are the guys who didn't play in the post-season and weren't bumped up.

Looks like Ward already signed up on Huffines fall team so I guess that makes them the favorites. Doesn't look like he's played yet this season.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Nobody said gtc had a better combo then molina and jones last year even though gtc's 3rd line took them to a third set tiebreaker. So what if you put one of gtc's guys with molina and let jones just play singles where he was better at? HUffines had to pull a great singles player to make up a strong dub team. Maybe a differnt sectional result maybe not. As far as recruiting looks like lots to choose from on the fall roster. Coyote you know who the best are that dont play much for gtc, who would you go after?

    ReplyDelete
  48. The question is who on other teams is Sisk after?

    ReplyDelete
  49. Only Coleman seems to still be on the fall team plus Wire, Gutierrez,Murray and Hardwick? Any of these guys any good?

    ReplyDelete
  50. Hardwick went 1-2 in dubs at cities and lost one singles match at sectionals. Gutierrez lost one city singles match to Zach Stein 6-2; 6-2. He and Wire then went 3-1 at sectionals.

All five of them win more than they lose at 3.5.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Patrick Wire is the key to Garland's team in the spring. He has improved dramatically, as he showed at sectionals. I heard he was unavailable for cities and it had Big John really sweating out a win. He would have been the difference maker in their LFT loss.

Watch him stay low key this fall so he'll be there to roll in the spring.

As I understand it, the captain has to sign off on people leaving their team. John would NEVER agree to Wire leaving!

    ReplyDelete
  52. It appears wire, gutierrez and hardwick are solid players. upon looking things up hardwick and sisk gave jones and molina all they could handle at cities and also lost to klamecki and Dennis in cities and beat a very good greenhill team in cities.

    ReplyDelete
  53. evindently sisk is encouraging wiley/clark to roll teams so he can make room for wire/partner to take over the #1 dubs spot.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Saw wire play at sectionals no serve, gd volleys avg groundstrokes. Not the game number one dub teams are made of. Good teams will pound his serve. Good player but if sisk is counting on him to be the man......

    ReplyDelete
  55. Flight B is turning into a real dogfight with 5 one loss teams. Highpoint in the lead now but never count out Grandpa.

Flight C has two undefeated teams facing off this weekend: Brookhaven and Oak Creek. Any predictions?

    ReplyDelete
  56. Who has the double's debt to beat gtc? There singles are suspect but they seem to be rolling in dubs. What teams in the other flights can match up with them? Brookhaven? Oak Creek? Huffines?

    ReplyDelete
  57. You win with strong singles and one good doubles team. Too hard to sweep doubles with all the matchup possibilities. Anyone with good singles play is a contender.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Sisk gently asked Keith and I to win easily and get moved up so he doesn't have to cut us next year.

With that said, Wire and Guttierez are good players among others. Morris Connelly is a very good doubles player too.

Seriously, there are so many new faces that I haven't even met. Between work, kids and GTC being a good distance from my house, I can't get down to Sisk's Al Qaeda Training camp for many practices.

    ReplyDelete
  59. why would sisk have to cut you?

    ReplyDelete
  60. So Sisk asked you to take it easy before and now its win easy?

    ReplyDelete
  61. Fretz has pretty strong doubles teams from what I've seen. They can probably challenge gtc in all 3 dubs lines.

    ReplyDelete
  62. he's making room for better teams.

    ReplyDelete
  63. MAKING room for a better team then clark/wiley? Yea ok.....

    ReplyDelete
  64. Evidently Wire demanded it. There can only be one #1.

    ReplyDelete
  65. "Saw wire play at sectionals no serve, gd volleys avg groundstrokes. Not the game number one dub teams are made of. Good teams will pound his serve. Good player but if sisk is counting on him to be the man......"

Isn't that what we were saying about Coyote last year? Sisk's best players are just getting computer rated for spring. I suspect Wire will be the same. It is probably Wire saying that up above so he can hide.

    ReplyDelete
  66. wire sounds like an A hole. I hate him.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Wire is a great guy, but there's always going to be haters when your game is that good.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Wire is the main man for spring, big slice serve, power forhand and a awesome overhead! Can volley blindfolded! Coyote wish's he had Wire's game! So has anybody seen Wire play besides the anon at sectionals?

    ReplyDelete
  69. The real question is has anybody seen his 'real' game? He doesn't roll it out except at practice and sectionals.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Is the Sam Grand captain retarded? When Schoen blew out his fist 2 opponents at S1, he needed to put a leash on the guy. What was he thinking?

Also, to the 2 guys who keep trading comments about GTC. Please email each other or get a hotel room. It's really, really boring.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Well wire has played this fall so who has played against him and what is your opinnion? I think he is just another guy no better no worse then whats all on sisks team.

    ReplyDelete
  72. SG's captain was definitely asleep at the wheel. And I think its just one guy talking to himself about Garland.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Wire is the new Glenn Strohl.

And the SG captain should know better than that. I looked at his results adn wonder how he did not beat get auto DQ after beating the other new Glenn Strohl... Ryan Eshelman.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Schoen's score against Eshelman was 6-3, 6-3. Even though it is no where in the USTA rules, when a losing player wins 6 or more games, the match will be considered competitive and therefore Schoen would not have been considered out of level on that match. Unfortunately, the USTA will not warn you when you have a player on the brink of disqualification, but that was pretty dumb on the part of Sam Grand's captain. Now, LTF picked up a win because of that.

    ReplyDelete
  75. Outside of GTC what other teams practice together regularly?

    ReplyDelete
  76. I know that Huffhines practices twice a week with players from both teams. They will all be 3.5 at seasons end which would be a team that could take GARLAND DOWN IN THE SPRING at 3.5. Prather,Bert,Molina,Anderson,Haley,Haney, and the rest have not won a line at 4.0. Grandpa has the only WIN. How bad are they?????

    ReplyDelete
  77. Combo sectionals are this weekend in Dallas.

    ReplyDelete
  78. scramble all the players and let the captains draft their teams!

    ReplyDelete
  79. What was Sam Grand's captain supposed to do? Tell Schoen to start tanking matches or purposely dropping games? That's not real tennis . . .

    ReplyDelete
  80. Tell him to rate at the correct level?

    ReplyDelete
  81. If your really stupid enough to not know what to do to keep him from the DQ, then just ask Sisk!

    ReplyDelete
  82. Hey Where are this weekends predctions and who is going to win OU-Tx game

    ReplyDelete
  83. Predictions!!!

Well it looks like Captain Fantastic went on the same fishing trip that Cary went on!

    Flight A

    DCC 3-2 over Hackberry
    GTC 4-1 over BH
    Westlake 3-2 over Stonebridge
    HP 4-1 over Springpark

Nothing much gonna happen here this week, but Stonebridge could make it interesting against Westlake.

    Flight B

    Fretz 4-1 over HP
    Huffines 3-2 over OC
    Lakes 3-2 over Stonebriar
    Glen Eagles 4-1 over Stonebridge

Fretz takes out HP convincingly. I like the HP team, but they will be no match for Fretz. Another good match will have Huffines squeeking by OC. These two matches will go a longs ways towards playoff seeding.

Side note: Where is that poster now that claimed Gleneagles was the top team this Fall?? They get the wheels back on this week after 3 straight losses due to playing a weak opponent. LOL

    Flight C

BH 3-2 over OC (match of week)
    Village 3-2 over CC
    Sam Grand 3-2 over JCC
    LBH 4-1 over El Dorado

I though of making the LBH/El Dprado the match of the week but it just missed the cut! The 2 undefeated go at one another in which I think BH pulls it out. Which CC team shows up, they are the hardest team to predict in all of 3.5. Their season is on the line and I think they fall to the Villages and their Fall season is over.

    ReplyDelete
  84. Sisk has smarten up a little since getting his best player was DQed in 2008. But Flora's DQ was a HUGE rookie capt blunder.

No matter what kind of degree Flora has _ he is a dumb shit to get DQed. It cost him a trip to Nats and he will never have that opportunity again. He just needed to keep his scores close like the rest of us do. ONLY DUMB ASSES GET DQed. For Flora, this cost him a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

    ReplyDelete
  85. getting dq or not is a managable event. look @ bobsomabutt. his team finished 3rd at nats w/o their best guy. they had maybe the best 4.0 team in country and no dq. even weymer kept things under control. thats a good cap and smart players.

    ReplyDelete
  86. Anon,

It's not a rookie blunder mistake- I never would have asked Glen to manage his score if I had to do it again. Glen did travel with us and we had a GREAT time, I wish he could have played, but it would not have made a difference vs Puerto Rico. If Glen were in and won, I still needed two other lines, and none were close to even splitting sets.
Glen is a great young man and I'm fortunate for him to still be playing for me while living in Florida.

It's not rocket science, to get "out of level" players computer ratings, that's easy. We had 6-7 self rates and lost one. I WILL TAKE THAT EVERY SPRING AND A TRIP TO NATS. I will just keep the dummy cpt title and all my stupid players.

In case any cpt does'nt know how. Have your Nadal self rate in the fall, play two matches have computer rating end of year and Abra Cadabra you are the genius cpt w/no dq-able player for the Spring, who cares if you make it to Nationals, get out of your flight, come in 3rd or 2nd-you are still a genius.

Bigger challenge: TRY TO DO IT WITH 6-7 SELF RATES----TRY THAT!!!

    ReplyDelete
  87. 6-0 0U

Anon 7:55 Sisk won Spring 3.5 and is headed to winning 3.5/ 4.0 Fall, he is a dumbass cpt. A good cpt would win both levels in both seasons.
You sound like a broke trailer/whitetrash idiot. Glen,a single 26 year old project manager, earning 128k, is not worried about 1,500.00 to Tucson with his team. Or flights to Dallas from Florida to play on John's team if your G.E.D. mind didn't figure that out. Work on being debt free and you can get off public assistance.

I don't know how Sisk has over 50+ players on his rosters. That dumbass is something.

Please reveal your highest post-season play and which team you cpt/played on. Won't happen trailer man---had to ask!

    ReplyDelete
  88. doesnt matter how much $ flora makes he's still a dumb assand so r u. Watching ur teammates play nats and not being able to join really sucks. he will never have another chance at nats. one chance and he blew it.

    ReplyDelete
  89. Not $125,000 or $130,000 but $128,000. hmmmm

Flora likes all his friends to know how much he makes. Tell me that's not weird.

Does that include bonus or stock options?

Flora, please let us all know the next time you get a salary increase. We are all really interested.

    ReplyDelete
  90. Just in case anyone cares about real tennis, instead of just whinning, Austin is in the semi's today at the 3.5 Nationals along with Fla, No-Cal, and you'll never believe it, but the Caribbean.

    ReplyDelete
  91. The point is a trip to Tucson won't bankrupt everyone as one anon was concerned about expenses and not playing. It is not life or death to play or not. We all had a great time period.

Not all of Somabuts players who went to Vegas played. Get over it!

    ReplyDelete
  92. some people win and some people bitch. it's really that simple. no amount of complaining is going to make 3.5 so watered down that the bitchs are ever going to win.

    ReplyDelete
  93. I see Westlake lost but they have a new guy that 0 & 1ed a player. Interesting, never heard of him either.

    ReplyDelete
  94. We'll see next week. If he 0&1s a GTC player then I would say so. If he gives Wiley or Clark an 0 & 1, I will first laugh because those two arrogant schmucks deserve it but then think we have a new Dumbass of the Month Award (DMA).

I looked him up and the guy he beat was no great player so it may not even mean anything but I would like to see Wiley/Clark get a well deserved beat down.

    ReplyDelete
