4.0 Week 7 Via Marc Russouw

Flight A - not much going on. HP/Bazan are creeping back up the standings to where they belong (ahh thanks Marc but we have packed it in) and will probably take down TBar who still need to get in their make-up match with the tough Stonebriar team. Assuming that Lakes and GHill manage to hold off Eldorado and LBH, Lakes & GHill will probably clinch play-off berths this weekend.

Flight B - nothing interesting happening here until the last week when JCC take on Fretz for the 2nd place. Highly unlikely that JCC lose their other 2 matches before then so it comes down to these 2 (Eldorado already has 2 losses and still needs to play Garland who will give them their 3rd loss)

Flight C - same song different tune.... The final week match-up between Canyon Creek & Village will decide who makes the play-offs with BHavenBP - who have a soft schedule remaining.

Flight D - Now this is where the action is! BhavenBB really needs to win against Garland because after their 0-5 drubbing last week to Somabut tie-breakers are not their friend. This match will be tough if both teams are able to field their top 8 players. Since that is unlikely I'm going to give the edge to BHaven as I think they have better depth at dubs but this is a toss-up. Don't be fooled by the Garland loss to Village, that was the week Newman and Kingsley were with Bob at Nationals, but does indicate their lack of depth.

MOW however has to be Somabut vs Oak Creek. I'm going to stop betting against Bob's "rebuilding" team and pick them to win this one. Somehow he has assembled a quality roster around Weymer, Kemp & Fenn. It will be interesting to see how they fare though when those 3 get bumped up at year-end.

  1. When do end of year bumps come out

  2. Oak Creek will beat Somabut 3-2. They will split singles and Oak Creek takes two lines of dubs.

  3. Never bet against Somabut. In Dallas we are fortunate to have 2 or 3 of the best captains in the country and he is one of them.

    ReplyDelete
  4. Lakes had 6 match points on one of the lines they lost to GH and did not have one of their best singles players in the lineup on another. Lakes makes some noise in the playoffs

  5. lakes cant close. Oak Creek 3-2.
ex hp Oak creek players are gonna get serious.

  6. "2 or 3 of the best captains in the country"

WTF? Even Bob would tell you that is a ridiculous statement. Who are the other 2?

    ReplyDelete
  7. Bob Bender is the king of all captains.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Bob Somabut is awesome.

  9. Branch is a great captain and Sisk is on his way up.

  10. Lakes suck, they cannot win a playoff match...

    ReplyDelete
  11. I'll bet a dollar the Lakes can and will win a playoff match. They are for real. Look out for these guys Sisk / Somabut / Brookhaven / Oak Creek / whoever. They are good.

  12. Thanks Jason! You guys are solid and have a great team. There is no doubt in my mind that you guys will be in the mix both this fall and next spring to win it.

As for the other colorful metaphors describing how we play and the quality of players we have here at the Lakes I will just say this. I will not respond with flamebait nor boast or make any arrogant predictions but I will say, we get that we don't get any respect around the league and when the time comes we will play with that in mind.

Somabut, Sisk, LTF, Russouw all have great teams and the only point I was trying to make is that whoever wins this fall is going to have to play great tennis to do so. But let the tennis be played before we crown a champ.

  13. Somabut, Sisk, LTF, Russouw all have great teams ....

LTF???? wtf????? Mitchell is obviously not paying attention.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Jason - Slow down .... Don't be such a big spender!

  15. If Fraser didn't have dough, he wouldn't have any friends or a team for that matter.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Correction about flight B. Eldorado is still mathematically in the hunt with one loss (not 2)although they are yet to play Garland. Fretz and JCC have played Garland earlier in the season

    ReplyDelete
  17. my apologies...Anon is correct. Eldorado only have 1 loss so far but still have JCC and Garland to play. Mathematically yes they are alive.... for now

    ReplyDelete
  18. I agree with Fraser and Fix, way too much tennis to be played before crowning the fall champ. Teams can have players out for one reason or another, injuries, domestic duty etc.`

    ReplyDelete
  19. lakes let greenhill get lucky. 6 match points on them.

    ReplyDelete
  20. As of right now, it looks like Burt's Brookhaven team is going to take it. They really have a deep and solid team.

  21. Power rankings? ( teams with a chance to make playoffs)
    1. Sisk
    2. Somabut
    3. Oak creek
    4. Garland/ breukner
    5. Greenhill
    6. Lakes
    7. Bhaven Bartlett
    8. Bhaven pearlman
    9. Village
    10. Jcc/ Fretz/ canyon creek/ eldorado

    ReplyDelete
  22. Interesting but not much love for Oak Creek in the MOW poll. BH teams may be too low....

    ReplyDelete
  23. Dude - in regards to your Power Rankings .......your going to have to do a little more homework.

    ReplyDelete
  24. If Rossouw would spend as much time on his breakdown on teams and there playoff chances as he does on his "grammer" homework he might be a little more accurate... who is this self proclaimed expert?

    ReplyDelete
  25. haha, very obvious grammar error plant there Anon - could there be a semi-intelligent Anon with a sense of humor? Probably not. I don't think anyone here is proclaiming to be an expert. This is not ESPN. It is a discussion board for amateur tennis players. The idea is to discuss opinions not to criticize and slam anyone who has one. If the power rankings above are so far off what would you suggest?

    ReplyDelete
  26. If it WAS ESPN, we would all be getting laid...............

    ReplyDelete
  27. That doesn't make any sense.

    ReplyDelete
  28. oh how the mighty have fallen. No mention of Lifetime in the power rankings? Maybe Eddie will keep losing at 4.5 and they will get him back and be one of the top teams again. Sorry to see Lifetime falling so hard. NOT!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  29. Lifetime lost like 7 players to 4.5 and they are currently well over .500 in 4.5 play. The 4.0 team is not the same team, even with a new captain. Give it a rest.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Yes the 4.0 LTF team sort of sucks

    ReplyDelete
  31. With all the LT 4.5 bump-ups, still could'nt get out of their flight at State.

    ReplyDelete
  32. That's ok. They beat some team at city finals 5-0.

    ReplyDelete
  33. And CHOKED when it counts! Keep the city trophy, give me State and trip to Vegas!!!!!!! 1k out of 1k times!

    ReplyDelete
  34. Interesting results today. Bartlett BH win 4-1 on strong singles play of Buford and Ellis and Oak Creek beats Somabut 3-2.
Sets up a big match in two weeks with BH and OC. Loser may not make the playoffs.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Brookhaven (Pearlman) kicked some ass over Gleneagles! Brookhaven beats them 5 - zip! Wow!

    ReplyDelete
  36. Oak Creek, Garland, and Greenhill are the best teams in Dallas.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Power rankings of contenders after this weekend when BHaven's play-off lineup takes down Garland; Eldorado/ Brownings get's upset by Hackberry & Lakes are upset by the other Eldorado team and Oak Creek beat the Weymerless Somabut:

    1. Garland/ Sisk
    2. Oak Creek
    3. HP/ Somabut
    4. BHaven/ Perlman
    5. Greenhill
    6. BHaven/ Bartlett
    7. Lakes (these guys have let TBar back into the race although Tbar are way behind on tie-breakers)
    8. Village/ Canyon Creek
    9. Fretz/ JCC

(This assumes that Garland/ Breukner doesn't make the play-offs although they still have an outside chance but will have to win out and get help)

    Constructive thoughts?

    ReplyDelete
  38. HP/ Somabut is ranked 3rd? You must be smoking crystal meth.

    ReplyDelete
  39. You have a short memory.... they beat Brookhaven 5-0 2 weeks ago and were without Weymer this week. I think you need to put down the crack pipe and get back to reality!

    ReplyDelete
  40. I think it's a pretty fair assessment. I might move Somabut down a couple of spots between Greenhill and Bartlett due to having two losses at this point. With Weymer they are a significantly better team though. I think he's the best player in 4.0tennis without even a close second.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I think those power rankings are a fair reflection. 2 through 7 are very close. It's a pity that one of Bartlett, Somabut & Oak Creek will miss the play-offs. Bartlett will need to beat Oak Creek this week to keep their hopes alive because I expect Somabut to sweep their remianing matches (Spring Park, Lifetime & Prather) and have the edge on tie-breakers. Lakes can't afford anymore slip-ups although TBar does have the tough HP team this week so that could derail their late season charge.

    ReplyDelete
  42. weymer is the greatest
