4.0 Week 6

So pretty good weekend of matches last weekend as two of the 4 flights are looking like they will be interesting up until the final weekend.

Flight A:
Not that much going on as the top two teams have played and now they just need to hold on and not slip up for the final few weeks. Lakes plays LB Houston. LBH doesn't look great on paper but they have enough strength to take out some good teams, just ask both of my crews who lost in 3rd set TBs to them. They are a scrappy bunch.

Flight B:
Garland has pretty much punched their ticket but 2nd place is still up for grabs but might start to take better shape this weekend as Eldorado and Fretz face off this weekend. This one is a tough call but I think Eldorado might just pull it off in a close one. JCC takes on Greenhill as well and has a chance to become relevant but if they lose both them and Greenhill will have a tough time climbing to the top. Greenhill has a tough road either way but one more loss and they can kiss the playoffs goodbye.

Flight C:
Brookhaven is cruising but they face High Point who has been up and down so far but they need this win to stay in the race so I think they might field a strong lineup. The most interesting match should be Gleneagles v. Village which should show which of those two teams will be in the running for a playoff spot in this flight. I don't have a good vibe on this match but I am leaning towards Gleneagles for some reason.

Flight D:
4.0 MOW is here as undefeated new powerhouse Brookhaven takes on HP/Bob who needs a win to keep their string of 200 straight playoff appearances. I can never bet against Bob especially because BH might struggle in singles and that is usually where Bob donates a win to the other team anyway. Also interested to see how LTF does against struggling Stonebridge who even though winless are still dangerous.

  2. What? nice job on the blog cary. Getting some work in early. Thumbs Up!

  3. 09 Spring lifetime team is the best in Texas and Nation

  4. Duurdee Garland is the team to beat

  5. I expect the Village will thump Gleneagles this week. Not sure where your vibe is from Cary but the doubles at Gleneagles is weak. They are solid in singles as Wines looks strong and is playing better than his Lifetime days and Slemon plays a smart game. But they likely split the singles and get swept in doubles for a 4-1 Village win. Pearlman easily wins that flight.

  6. The Village is a horse I have bet on and been burned on before although they did come thru in the Spring but not sure I am jumping on their bandwagon quite yet to get that 2nd spot.

  7. Thanks for the write-up Cary!

"Bob donates a line of singles"? Really? How did Featherstone, Fenn & Talliat feel about that?

I'm a little surprised that the voting is heavily in favor of Bob's team. I guess many voters are assuming he has the same crew that just went to nationals and not accounting for all the bump-ups and that he can only keep 3? He has a great reputation!

It depends on whether Fenn & Weymer are playing. If they are then Weymer's line is a lock and Fenn probably takes care of Buford or McSherry easily (Ellis may be tough though). That means they only need to find 1 more win and if Kemp has a solid partner they can pull it off. If any of those 3 are out then Bhaven takes it (also if Bob plays Kemp w/ Weymer, that line would be too strong and waste).

Either way both of these teams and Garland/ Breukner will be losing players at y/end (Kemp, Weymer, Fenn & Newman are all likely to get bumped-up due to HP?Bob nationals run; Heltebran, Smith & Mattes off BHaven are likely to get bumped looking at their strong record - this will leave both teams vulnerable in the Spring)

I expect Village/ Johnson to win and get second in that flight. Not sure what Cary is looking at to bet against them.

  8. Flight D (BH) will no longer be undefeated after Bob/HP upset today.

    ReplyDelete
  9. As I predicted. Bob/HP beats Brookhaven 5-0.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Really? As you predicted? Very easy to tell us that as an anon ..... after the match. You are a tennis God - good job!

Seriously though, that is pretty impressive that Bob has put together another team that can take down a solid team like BH 5-0. That flight is wide open now!

  11. "Flight D (BH) will no longer be undefeated after Bob/HP upset today.

    October 17, 2009 11:24 AM"

Yes, really. The matches were played at 1:00PM, so my prediction at 11:24AM was indeed a prediction, no?

    ReplyDelete
  12. First, I'm not sure the time stamps are Central time, or are they? I'll check after I post this!

.....and second, when you are posting as an Anon and don't put your name behind your prediction you could be anyone and therefore won't be taken seriously. You could claim anyone else's prediction. Man-up and put your name behind your bold predictions. I certainly will give you more credibility and I suspect so will many others on here. If you get it wrong, so what? It's a blog where we give our opinions and we'll never be correct all the time.

I certainly underestimated Bob's team at the beginning of the season and suggested that they would struggle after losing so many players. Boy was I wrong! They are a force to be reckoned with.

    ReplyDelete
  13. ....as I suspected, time stamp is 7:34pm and I posted it at 9:34pm. So, Anon, you posted your bold prediction 24 minutes after you claim the matches begun. Which would definately be before they were completed so well done to you on your correct prediction!

Bob, as always, have picked up a good singles player and his team is going to be extremely tough to deal with. Like Cary said, we can never underestimate Bob's team and this week definitely proved his point.

But it's so great to see such a tight and exciting race in Flight D. It's going to be even more exciting playing against my ex-teammates.

Oak Creek/Smith beats Village/Gordon 4-1. Anyone know other scores in Flight D?

  15. Anyone notice that Glenn Flora posted his salary on the 3.5 thread? Claims to make $128,000 per year. Strange guy . . .

    ReplyDelete
  16. Anyone playing the Bob Noel tournament?

    ReplyDelete
  17. maybe we should all post our salaries to impress each other or not

    ReplyDelete
  18. I'm the real Glynn Phlora and this is my first ever post. Yes, even when Zack, the other 4.5+ superstar were the subjects in Spring 2008. I've been unemployed since June and have been donating my unemployment check to charity and living off my Trust.

  19. I work for the Post Office and make only $63,000 per year.

But I'm smart enough to not get DQed.

  20. My wall street firm bonus this year is over 500K and i drive a civic. My penis is also tiny, but i have a great serve.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I did not know sisk drove a Civic.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Wiley, why would you say that about your boy?

    ReplyDelete
  23. That is the one thing I like about tennis. It does not matter what you do for a living, how much you make, or what you drive. I once played a guy who said he worked at Hooters as a cook. He was about 45 years old. I said to myself I am not losing to a fry cook. It turned out he did beat me and he was not a fry cook but a part owner of the Hooters franchise. He had been retired for a few years. It is all out tennis and not money or jobs. I love tennis for this reason.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Well, good for you.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I don't know about salaries, but did anyone hear a thump just now? Yeah, that was me setting it on the table.

    ReplyDelete
  26. What where you thumping on the table, your head, while big Sisk took you from behind?

    ReplyDelete
  27. HP Bob will win the Fall, and silence you doubters once again.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I know LTF (eddie hill) can talk alot, but damn HP never shuts up! These guys love to tout their own horn!

Who cares if he was a cook a Hooters, he worked at Hooters, and was probably banging half the chicks after hours. It might be worth $10 an hour!

    ReplyDelete
  29. The difference between Eddie and HP Bob is HP Bob backs up their talk.

    ReplyDelete
  30. this is the first time they have backed it up!

    ReplyDelete
  31. Gone to sectionals like 8 years years in a row, and nationals twice in that 8 years. Your right though this is the first time HP Bob has backed it up. Do your homework before challenging the greatness of HP Bob.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Eddie doesn't back it up. Ok Lifetime did not get to Nats, but last time I check they City Playoffs by beating HP. Backed something up there. Looks like his 4.5 team is now 3-1 as well. Not bad for team full of bump ups???

    ReplyDelete
  33. Last time I checked. Eddie was the #1 ranked 4.0 Tournament player in the state out of like 500 guys and won last 2 major zones.

Backed up some talk there too I guess.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Newsflash for Lifetime If HP wanted to beat you in the city playoffs they would have. You were the victims of sandbagging. You didn't have a doubles line that could compete. The singles could have gone either way though.

    ReplyDelete
  35. That's great Eddie, but you are no longer a 4.0. You are just a lower level 4.5 now. You are like that guy who graduates highschool, but you still see him around the campus trying to relive his glory years. Go over to the 4.5 thread now. You have graduated from this one.

    ReplyDelete
  36. He is still 4.0 in tournaments until the "Simply the Best" top 8 tournament is played in 3 weeks.

I'm sure he is ready to move on, but his name keeps coming up on the 4.0 thread. Probably feels like he has to defend himself.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Judging by Eddie's 4.5 record so far, there is no reason for him to leave the 4.0 thread. His rating will be back to 4.0 in a couple of months.

    ReplyDelete
  38. "If if's and but's were candy and nuts, we'd all have a Merry Christmas" HP never beat LTF in the City playoffs, so they can never call themselves 2008 city champs.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Your right I would rather win a meaningless city championship than go to nationals. You win.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I'd rather do both. HP can't say that either!!!

    ReplyDelete
  41. Bud Thames Senior 4.0 team can say they went to Nationals and WON it. Lets hear it for a Texas team!

    ReplyDelete
  42. And the lifetime 4.0 team can always fall back on the fact that they just lost to the previously winless stonebridge team, impressive.

    ReplyDelete
  43. That Stonebridge team would beat about 30 of the current 4.0 teams.
    That flight is crazy stacked.

    ReplyDelete
  44. That is embarrasing that LTF lost to Stonebridge, cause those guys SUCK!

    ReplyDelete
  45. I think Oak Creek will win flight D (Somabut and Garland will be tough matces for them though); and you're right that D is the toughest flight. LTF and Stonebridge would probably fare much better in another flight as they certainly have some good players. Oak Creek is just very deep with good players.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Nobody cares what you think, so shut up Fraser.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Now you see why people post anon!!!! wow that was harsh

    ReplyDelete
  48. Flight D is the toughest one. BH, LTF, Oak Creek, HP, Garland/Brucner, Stonebridge...it is a dog fight. Whoever wins that flight would be battle tested.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Springpark is solid as well in Flight D.

    ReplyDelete
  50. HP has tanked the last two city championships.

    ReplyDelete
  51. At Lifetime we just try to go out an win every line in every match. Just try our best. If we win great. If we lose, we try to come back better next time. If we win too much, we get bumped up and play at the next level. That's what we do. That attitude made us 2009 4.0 Dallas City Champs. No excuses, No explanations. Just City Champs

    ReplyDelete
  52. Based on last post I gotta agree with the previous retard comment.

    ReplyDelete
  53. All I know is that the 2009 Dallas City Trophy hangs prominently on display at LTF in the trophy case. Come by anytime HP and come view it. Its displayed on the right hand side as you walk in. If you can't find it, ask one of the desk workers there, they can point it out to you.

    ReplyDelete
  54. I'm sure HP is very jealous of your city championship. Maybe LFT can come over and look at their sectional, or nationals trophies since they have never seen one.

    ReplyDelete
  55. The old saying goes, LTF, "You won the battle but lost the war!"

    ReplyDelete
  56. wow! you get a trophy for GOING to nationals! That is just AMAZING! Yayyyyyy Trophy!

    ReplyDelete
  57. Shut up Weenie. who invited you to the cat fight? Now, what were all you pansy girls from both teams saying again?

    ReplyDelete
  58. Arrange the match for 1,000.00 and see who wins! I'm interested in side bets!

    ReplyDelete
  59. Sisk,

Yea sure we trust you on money bets... knowing your reputation you would "throw" the match to make a litte $$$, your reputation speaks for itself!

    ReplyDelete
  60. nats is not about the trophy. its about the experience - which is incredible.

guys that want to make nats - need to get on a team with a cap that can get u there.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Mudsam v Featherstone LTF wins
    Hill v Fenn LTF wins

    BMo/Kennedy Kemp/Weymer HP wins
    Myers/Moore v Brouer/Robinson LTF wins
    Shahab/Studey v Denzel/Smith or Newman LTF wins

    4-1 Lifetime just like DCC

    ReplyDelete
  62. HP would sweep all 3 doubles lines easily.

    ReplyDelete
  63. we seriously need to get together and play this match to end all the talk. We won city... they won sectionals. I get that they won the bigger prize. Fact is they have not beaten us. Let's just play to end the talk before everything changes. it is still 2009. Let's settle it once and for all who is better

Tell Bob to get with Eddie to set it up.

    ReplyDelete
  64. I think it has been settled. The only people who can't accept the reality are Lifetimers.

    ReplyDelete
  65. or apparently HPers

    ReplyDelete
  66. Sandbagger alert: I was looking at the results of the 4.0 Senior FW men's team that just won Nationals. They have a guy on their roster that has a 3.5 rating named Stephen Osborne and it shows that he is from Abilene. He has played 3.5 singles in numerous small USTA tourneys in Abilene this year and he has lost all of his matches pretty badly. Some of these losses were to legit 3.0 players that were playing up in 3.5. However he WON EVERY MATCH at 4.0 Senior Nationals for the FW team and they won Nationals. This guy really knows how to play the system. Lose all matches intentionally in 3.5 tourneys and Win all of your 4.0 League matches. Who knows what other skeletons are in the FW team's closet? Makes you wonder if their National Championship is truly deserved or if it is a result of NTRP corruption.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Who cares about Old Fart tennis anyway. If I am still playing by then and blogging about other teams cheating... Someone shoot me!

    ReplyDelete
  68. Don't ever talk bad about Senior league tennis again. If you have a problem, meet me in the Luby's parking lot and we'll settle this once and for all.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Just shutup. The guy is a good friend of John Sisk.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Correction to earlier posters projection -

Denzel/Newman wins third line of doubles. Check their record - 8&1 for the year, with the only loss in the semi's at nats. Shahab/Studey didn't play together this year.

And after correcting the line 1 singles to an HP win -
    HP wins 3-2.

    ReplyDelete
  71. So, what's the deal? Are we crowning a champ before the playoffs? The 4.0 playoffs should be very interesting as there are a lot of teams with great players on them outside of the favored few. I realize that Garland, HP, and LTF are great teams but Greenhill is very solid and we have a lot of strong players up here at the Lakes as well.

    ReplyDelete
  72. Yeah, sure you do and you'll be saying that_next year and the year after...........

    ReplyDelete
  73. Lubys P-lot!!! LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL!!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  74. its been nice to take a week away from this sport and this blog. Nice to see some things will never change. Since we are having our end of the year party pretty close to lifetime i guess some of the guys could swing by and show you hardware. Your right we weren't city champs, however from all geography lesson I've taken States are bigger than Cities. Or in tennis lingo "sections". As for Fall (which is what we are in) I think cities will be another hard fought battle. really it comes down to line ups, styles and personal schedules.

    ReplyDelete
  75. Who won Dallas Cup?

    ReplyDelete
  76. who gives a shit.

dallas cup is just one big rip off when benefits the dta officers not children. if you are dumb enough to play dallas cup for $100 you get what you deserve.

    ReplyDelete
  77. lol, that wuz funny

    ReplyDelete
  78. Yep, Dallas Cup is a rip-off. Support "My Possibilites" next year!

    ReplyDelete
  79. Broeur and Keith have won several major zones over the last year. How can you bet against them? Mudsam is a great player but Featherstone was the biggest ringer in 4.0 last year. He can compete at 5.0. Eddie and Fenn would be a close match up.

Lifetime had a great team last year but would get swept in the dubs and probably split singles.

    4-1 Somabut.

    ReplyDelete
  80. anon,

why so much hatred against the Dallas cup. I got to play in it for the first time this year and it was great. I am looking forward to doing it in the future.

    ReplyDelete
  81. Cary,
Where can I find the match scores and results for the Dallas Cup? Is there a website for it?

    Please advise.
