4.5 Week Four

A few surprises in the young 4.5 season but most of the matches are going according to plan. Huffhines and Branch both beat playoff teams last week to put themselves as the favorites of their flights. High Point and Royal Oaks remain undefeated and are poised to capitalize on every opportunity to claim the top position. Less exciting matchups this week but there are a few worth watching.

Flight A

Match of the Week: None really but I will say Oak Creek/Branch v. High Point/Bazan for comic purposes

Shouldn't be any surprises this week as the top four teams all play lower teams. Only potential upset I see is Village v. T Bar since Village has such strong doubles teams. T Bar has been rolling in singles though and I see nobody on Jason's roster who can beat their singles players. In the "feature match", I am putting the over-under at 20 games for Bazan's team. I am confident enough to say that there is no lineup I could create where Bazan's team wins this match. His top 8 vs. Rusty's bottom 8 would still be an Oak Creek victory in my opinion.

Predictions:

Branch d. Bazan 5-0
Bovermann d. Stonebridge 4-1
Feldman d. Hackberry 4-1
Royal Oaks d. Collin County 4-1
T Bar d. Village 4-1

Royal Oaks looks to be the only team that can challenge Branch at this point but inconsistent lineups in the past have hurt them.

Flight B

Match of the Week: High Point v. Brookhaven

This is a week full of competitive matches but the feature match is by far the most exciting. This is a must-win for Brookhaven after their loss to Huffhines. I will have to root for Brookhaven since my team beat them but if they have the same lineup they had against us, I don't like their chances. Only other drama will be to watch to see if any of the other frontrunners take their opponents too lightly and lose valuable position.

Predictions:

HP d. Brookhaven 3-2 (Home-court advantage is always big for HP but if David and Carl play singles, I would have to give Brookhaven the edge)
Greenhill d. DFW 4-1
Lakes d. Springpark 3-2
LB Houston d. T Bar 3-2
Huffhines d. Juhn 4-1

It should be fairly obvious after this week who the top two teams in this flight are. If HP wins, I would have to say it will be a two-team race between them in Huffhines. If Brookhaven wins, it is a little grayer but Huffhines will be a solid #1 with Brookhaven a close second.

Don't forget to voice your opinion for the over/under on Cary's team match.

  3. Brookhaven beats HP and turns our flight back into a four-team race. Huffhines is the firm no. 1 but we haven't played HP or Greenhill yet so it is far from over. I knew that if Brookhaven brought Carl and David out they would be tough to beat. It still took 2 third-set tiebreaks for Brookhaven to win but that kept them alive for the rest of the season.

  4. Corepuppy,

We crushed the over/under. I wish we had done a poll I think we would have got no love at all, I don't know our final tally but i think it was 30

  5. I just noticed that the previous post in this thread from May 13 was not me. I have changed my password now so hopefully this won't be an issue in the future. Who would have thought we would have hackers in a tennis blog?

  6. The fake Corey was right about my team though.

  8. Yep we tried to make them sweat a little bit. Unfortunately our line 1 singles player came up a little lame in his match with Rusty, I don't think he could have won but that match should have been a little closer and I was banking on at least 5 games towards our 20 goal.

    Kern/Herget were awesome though.

    Kern is my hero!

Pollard/Kiron are great as everyone knows but Donnie was just a little off yesterday and Greg/Kirby were able to capitalize on that.

Johan played great again and BMO had his debut yesterday and did pretty well too and actually outplayed Brent/Owen for most of the match but unfortunately not in the TB.

I am just glad we are done with almost all of the big dogs in our flight now with only Feldman left on our schedule the other teams I hope we have a shot of actually not knowing the outcome beforehand.

  10. I was very surprised to see the HP team lose this weekend? I thought they would be a strong team this year.

  11. HP has a couple new additions that might help them shore up their singles.
They will still have to lean heavily on doubles though.

OC Feldman barely squeaking by Hackberry. Good thing they won the fall...

  12. More posts that are not me. Feldman is hanging on until the playoffs. They have no incentive to win but hopefully they will keep one team out of the QT by finishing top 3.

  13. I have a question. I noticed one of the so called "sandbaggers" of the dallas area, Christopher Jones has a 3.5 computer rating. But there is also a Chris Jones from Coppell with a 4.0 tournament rating. Is this the same guy? Did he get rated 4.0 and create a new USTA account to sand bag? Does anyone know if there are actually two Chris Jone's from Coppell that play USTA?

  15. Why'd you delate your post? How come no one has complained. I would think he would be DQ'd and probably banned from USTA play if this was true.

  16. not sure a T rating makes you self rate at that level.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Once you have a T rating you are locked into it for one year just like any other rating. You won't self-rate after that. But yesterday he was rated 4.0T and 3.5C, but today the 4.0 Chris Jones vanished from the system. That makes me think he read this blog and changed his original account.

  18. Because it wasn't my post. If somebody wants to keep posting as me, nobody is going to be reading it.

  19. This guy changed his 4.0T USTA Account-He changed the spelling to Chrs Jones(without the "i" in Chris) and he chaged the residence to Frisco because there is a Legit Christopher Jones in Frisco who plays 3.5 league and is in fact a real 3.5. He made these changes yesterday when he knew that someone was onto him. He received the 4.0 "T" rating because he played and did well in a 4.0 tourney in Austin last year(The Sun-brr tourney in July of 2008). His doubles partner was Philip Williamson from Austin. However, he really wanted to be a 3.5 so he opened up another USTA account and intentionally lost some 3.5 league matches in a meaningless Dallas Fall league toward the end of 2008. Thats the facts.

  20. Why are you copying my blogger tag? Capitalizing Anon!!! I'm sure this info will be in the hands of a USTA official soon. There has to be a rival captain or player that wouldn't mind seeing him DQ'd

  21. Not sure why this is being discussed in the 4.5 thread, but that explanation does seem like a possibility. having seen Chris play, there is no way he should have lost those matches in the Fall. That HP team they lost to is average at best. I am not sure about how good Chris's partner was, but even if the guy was not that good, they should not have lost that match or any others. It definitley looks like he tanked the Fall!!!!

  22. Okay, so it is obvious that Chris Jones read the post from yesterday and changed his account. This to me says he's guilty. Chris or should I say Chrs, why don't you come out and defend yourself. You are an avid reader of this blog, so you must be checking it all day wondering if you will get banned from the USTA. I see you are playing Waco this weekend. That might be the last time you ever play 3.5, or USTA all together.

  23. I'm sure there's alot of other possibilities. I once got free copies of Tennis magazine because the USTA got a returned address from someone with my name, so they assumed it was me and sent it to my address. Sounds like there is just one angry person who got beat and is trying everything in their power to start shit, lol.

  24. I agree, lots of other possibilities. Calling out someone for having a common name in a big city as proof? Sounds like Anon2 is making a mountain out of a mole-hill.

    ReplyDelete
  25. It's only a mountain out of a mole hill if Anon2 and others are incorrect. Until there's proof, it's only a possibility . . .
