Deja Vu All Over Again... 40s Wrap Up and Spring Season to Start

40s finally wraps up as the beginning of 18s starts over the next two weeks.  No rest of the weary.  The DTA should consider the rapid turn around as these players need some time off.  It is the same reason the Combo event usually sucks.  Everyone is done with Cities, Sectionals and Combo is just at a time where players are tired.  This season needs to wrap up sooner.

Congratulations to all the winners.  Sweeney and Wiley defended their title.  Bender took the remnants of the 3.5 team that won it all last year and won it again this year.  Like Yogi Berra said, it is like deja vu all over again.

At 4.5, Mark Sweeney took home the prize.  Every match was close.  Bartzen stood tall but not quite enough to beat the Sweeney.  Mark appeared to call the lines correct every match and was able to get 3-2 wins all weekend.  Congratulations to Mark, he has a great team and Mark is a good guy.  Good luck at sectionals!  I thought TBar would be a little better.  All four teams were pretty similar and Mark's excellent captain's calls were the difference.  I hope he keeps it up.

Here is a weekend picture of the 4.5 heavyweights between Sweeney and Fikes (could have been Wagner or Harlee as well)

At 4.0, Wiley dominated most of the weekend.  It looks like he had a semi-close call against surprising second place Greenhill.  Most everyone (including myself), picked them last.  Looks like Wiley put out a little softer lineup and had to ride his unstoppable singles guys.  Brian Wilson didn't play for TBar, I'll find out why as he would have been a difference maker for TBar.  Regardless, he can only play one line and they still beat a good TBar lineup 4-1.  The rumors he will play his spares were apparently just that... Best of luck to Wiley, his great team depth should serve him well in the sectionals heat.

This was Wiley versus Peterson.

At 3.5, Bender had a closer than expected final.  I am no 3.5 expert but I thought he would win 5-0.  He has a number of 4.0 bump downs.  Regardless, he still won and Bender adds another city championship to what must be the most overwhelmed trophy cabinet in Texas.  Best of luck in sectionals and I hope Bender does what he has done so many times before.  I hear he has a suite named after him at the various nationals locations.

Almost forgot the highlight clip of Bender and Gardner...

Best of luck to all!!!

Spring Season starts next week for 4.0.  Scheduling needs some serious rethinking.  40s wraps up; Mixed hasn't ended and Mixed playoffs are next week.  All at the same time, the spring season starts.  At least I am able to combine one post but I doubt the DTA was thinking about me when they did that.

Big matches for the opening week...
5.0+ Our own Rossouw and Noel start off against each other.  Since they have been in agreement a lot around here, they can get together complain about Kelly and play some tennis.  Rossouw will win  but that is a lot of Dallas tennis conscience in one place.

TBar has JCC and looks to be pretty competitive.  Oscar's team had to split up but that is not a big deal when you get to keep 3 and you only play five people each week.

Gleneagles shouldn't have much trouble with GH/Barnard's 4.5 heavy team.

Perkison and Wagner have a good match but Perkison has a lot of firepower.  I think Perkison is the favorite to win this flight and will win Saturday.

In 5.0, every week should have great matches.

4.5  Start April 12th.  Woohoo a whole week off for the geezers...

Flight A-- TBar starts with HP Somabut.  Somabut's has a number of 4.0s.  This should be easy sailing for Dick's team.  This flight just isn't that great.  I only gave TBar a nod this week because they are the probable flight winners.  There really isn't a match worth mentioning.

Flight B-- This flight isn't very good either.  The teams that matter are the Lakes, Rossouw and Brookhaven.  None of them play each other.  They all play average teams.  Not a week to get excited.

Flight C-- Fretz/Noel vs Garland Sisk is match of the week.  Sisk has Kelly so he must be the favorite... If only he had any depth to go with him.

Brookhaven and Village play in a few weeks to determine who will really win this flight.  There just isn't much to say about any of these flights.

4.0 Matches start this week.  Why is a mystery but not my actual problem so not sure why I care.

Flight A-- There are no big matches in week 1.  Somabut and Sisk are the probable favorites.  Yet, both of their rosters are players that just don't excite you.Somabut has fewer ho-hum players I don't know most.  I don't most of Sisk's either.

Flight B--In what most think is the most ridiculous flight, you would think there would be a few really tough matches every week.  This week there is only one that has any interest.  Eldorado vs Gleneagles.  Eldorado made the playoffs last year.  Glenegles has some players.  I predict in week 1, Eldorado loses.  No other match worth considering.

Flight C-- In a flight with near nothing, there is not a match to discuss.  TBar plays Oasis...  How do they even field a team?  I don't even recognize a player on Oasis team.. not even a name.  Either they are incredible or really bad.  I suspect really bad!

Flight D-- In a flight that is even worse than Flight C, Brookhaven plays the Village... And not a good Village team.  Fretz plays Huffhines in the only match of near intrigue.  Fretz shouldn't have trouble but it is not like they are world beaters.

    1. Feel free to write one and put it here. It is tiring enough to write about teams you have to guess about in levels I actually know a little bit about. I know absolutely nothing about 3.5.

    2. Here's all the analysis of 3.5 you will ever need. For the whole season. Ever. If Bender cares enough to actually field a team it will win Dallas and has a good chance to win sectionals. Don't ask again.

  2. How would you like to be a fly on the wall when Rissouw and Noel meet in their first match????? You think Kelley will come up once or twice? They will put their HEADS together to find a way to rid him of 4.5 again. National committee 1, Roussow/Nioel 0.

    1. I think it was really Rossouw/Myers. Noel is new to the get rid of Kelly bandwagon.

    2. Mike Kelly has zero effect on me or my teams so not worth my time to try to get him kicked out of league.

  3. I am glad someone else notices how Combo sucks. It is about as compelling as little state.

    1. I once asked WTF was Little State after seeing someone wearing it. It is sectionals for losers. Why would anybody wear the shirt?

      Delete
    2. DTA was thinking of making 'we finished 2nd!' T shirts for 8.0 mixed a few years ago but Canyon Creek and Brookhaven couldn't agree on the design.

  4. Lol!!!! Funny. BTW, why would you consider Sisk and Kelley the favorite in flight C??? You do realize if he wanted to dominate and get back to another nationals he would play for Pickett. He will just be fine tuning his game and drinking beer. He is about as disinterested as it gets.

  5. There is absolutely nothing unfunny about midget wrestling. 3.5 and midget wrestling is pretty appropriate. Did Bender win by pinfall or tapout?

  7. There is only one question to ask since I do not follow mixed tennis. What team is Kelley on? He wins his line and most likely his team wins again.

  8. I think he is out. Springpark doesn't show to be in playoffs.

    1. But he shows to be on the Greenhill roster. Zackary to sectionals.

    2. Kelly & Vail will power them to a team win. They should each dominate their line

  9. Huh? Is this 40 and over? Springpark shows to be going to nationals April 6th in Hawaii and he is on roster.

    Rene,

You should be embarressed and ashamed of yourself for bringing that caliber of tennis to 7.0 mixed doubles. Was it fun for you? IT'S 7.0 MIXED DOUBLES AND WE PLAY TO GET OUT OF THE HOUSE AND FOR FUN! You should have taken those 4.0 guys onto your 8.0 mixed team. It is not like you are overwhelmed with people begging to play on your teams. I am almost sure this league is no more fun for those guys as it is for my players to have to play dodgeball with their routine shots that can cut a person in half. I spoke with Susan last night and she agrees with me. Did you pay the court and league fees for those guys? I hope you are happy with yourself for now because we will get even with you. Is your ego really that big or did you get tired of all the non-sense on here about playing line 1? No really. Just wait, you are in my crosshairs!!!

7.0 mixed is actually lower than 3.0 men's tennis.

    6. What kind of man would play 7.0 mixed? I looked and it is none other than Wiley and Clark. I guess beating up on the local men isn't enough. They have to beat up on women too. Both of you should be ashamed of yourselves.

      Delete
    7. Wiley and Clark have to play 7.0. They would get beat at 8.0.

    8. Lynn,

I do not know who you are but I know how to get revenge. Go out and sign Kelley up, then go and find a 2.5 woman who can get a few serves in and tell her to get the hell out of the way. Wiley and Clark will be begging for mercy.

  13. RUMOR is Kelley skipping 8.0 mixed playoffs. His track record may prove it true. He has already in the past few months PASSED on mixed nationals, PASSED on trilevels final match to go to I WELLS, PASSED on playing on Joel's FW super team, PASSED on playing 40 and over men's and PASSED on playing on a serious 18 and over team. I think if you sign up and don't finish out sectionals and nationals on a team you must sit out a year. Very selfish to only play WHEN he wants to play. DO NOT SIGN THIS GUY UP ON ANY ROSTER. Maybe that will get his attention.

  14. Clark, Wiley and Hutchinson getting bitched at in 7.0 mixed is funny stuff. I bet those 3 move on. Alzuro left holding the bag.

  20. I second that. He won and was a total class act.

  22. Who cares??? What about 8.0 mixed city playoffs this weekend? Now there's some real hard feelings and a lot of history. Who wins the 2/3 match for the privilege of having Kelly beat them down??? Again!!!

    1. If Zackary has his players, it won't be close. For men,he has Moore, Kern and Kelly. Might as well not show up. Also, since when is this a mixed blog? Men who play mixed are masochists because they aren't there for the hotties. The hotties aren't even at Lifetime any more.

      Delete
  23. Really is no history there. Kelley has dominated mixed in this town since God was a baby so there really is no rivalry, maybe hatred though. I would suspect he will be playing CC. I don't think anyone from Brookhaven wants any part of playing him. I do think that w all the pull CC AND Brookhaven have there will be a wildcard issued. They will beg for it. That will be the only way one of those teams gets to sectionals.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Real story is Kelley has won most of his matches before the first serve. There is no more dominant mixed player in Dallas than him. His results are past gawky and knows that part of the game extremely well. ONLY shot they have is that he has a bad day. What makes him so solid is his ability to play well in big matches. Hate on him but the guy comes up w the goods time and time again.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I am a 5.0 and if I had a solid 3.5 I would destroy Kelly.

    ReplyDelete
  26. This is a total waste of time and typing effort. If Kelley comes to play, takes it serious and wants to win he will. If he doesn't he won't. You never know what in the heck he is thinking. If he tries, his line is a lock, period. Kern or Moore should prob win one of the others you would think. Does make it easier knowing your are up 1-0 w Kelley on ur team.

    ReplyDelete
  27. The pictures are appropriate. Sweeney went through a tough 4.5 flight and knocks out Rocky Brookhaven as well as Apollo TBar.

  28. To all those who face Kelley this weekend! This is valuable info. There are thousands, consequently millions, that want to see him fail! This is very simple: HIT TO THE WOMAN! DO NOT HIT TO HIM! THAT IS THE RECIPE FOR SUCCESS. Please get the word out if you know ANYONE in mixed playoffs this weekend and may not read this blog. His partner is basically a beginner and no way even Kelley cover for that. THE WHOLE CITY WILL REJOICE IF HE LOSES! I repeat : HIT TO THE WOMAN!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Very few people, especially 4.5 men, want to be an asshole and hit every ball at a 3.5 woman. It's less about "winning" at all costs, and more about having some integrity, and being a gentleman. Maybe I should not think this way, but I do. I know many other men that do too.

      Delete
    2. You must be one of the people that didn't make playoffs. Even the pros go at the woman...

      Delete
    3. It is not millions and not thousands... Well there are hundreds... Most of them play at Canyon Creeps or Hookhaven.

      Delete
    4. You must be an idiot. Women pros can handle themselves. There's a huge difference between a 4.5 hitting at a 3.5 woman, and a pro man hitting at a pro woman.

      Delete
    5. And you, 10:38, must be one of the assholes.

      Delete
  29. If I am Zachary I am VERY careful when turning in the lineup as the person running the tourney will absolutely be on the side of CC or Brookhaven. They will tell the opponent where Kelley is playing. That is a fact.

    ReplyDelete
  30. What's even more amazing than Kelley s skills are his ability to ignore the constant criticism, bashing and hatred and still continue to carry teams year after year. That is pretty damn remarkable... And I am not a big fan.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Great point. This guy goes in every match getting his opponents best shot. Every time he plays he is rooted against even by the other teams fans (see last years sectional when CC brought whole club and acted classless). I was sitting watching and it was unbelievable what was said. I suppose one just ignores it and just plays but u have to be mentally tough.

  32. How about a 4.5 thread for the upcoming season. Take a look at that Tony Le team, I predict those tankers do not win one match. If you need a place to drop to or stay at 4.0 and want to donate $33 to the USTA, call Le. Maybe the USTA just needs to have a special category, pay double for the season and we will drop you down one level and save you the hassle of cheating. Klamecki make it happen, that way people don't have to waste their time playing the tankers on the weekend and the USTA still comes out on top. It's not like we don't know who 90% of the tankers are.

    2. What are you talking about? You have an obvious problem with Le. Get over it, you are the loser.

      Delete
    3. Why the Le bashing? He's gotten caught up in the captaining trap. The more you captain the more your own game falls off. Hit with him two weeks ago and he really doesn't have it anymore. But still a really nice guy.

  40. You people posting on "what ifs" are wasting your time on Kelley. It is plain and simple. If he wants to win and he feels the stakes are big enough he will, if he doesn't he won't.
