4.0 DCC Underway

So the first matches are in the books and things have gone according the form (at least the form I predicted) as Garland won a close match over Springpark and TBar M beat out Brookhaven. I was surprised at the two Brookhaven wins at doubles. I wasn't shocked they won two lines it was just how lopsided line 3 doubles was but in the end that will be forgotten but it doesn't bode well for them matching up against Lifetime later this afternoon.

Today's Blue Flight Matches:

11a: Lifetime v. Brookhaven
There was no Renwick last night, I hope he shows today or this match will be all but decided when the lineups are handed in. With him I see a close 4-1 win for LTF. Although I wouldn't be surprised if BH could take two lines of singles because Mel is underated.

3p: What will be the showdown for a sectional spot between TBar M and Lifetime. I wish I had seen TBar M play more recently because just going off a hunch I had them winning big yesterday and that has me leaning back towards Lifetime winning this match. I know they won but I was waiting for a big thumping and they will need to step it up with that same lineup v. LTF to get the win.

Today's Red Flight Matches
11a: HP v. Springpark
A showdown between last year's sectional teams and one is guaranteed to stay home this year and possibly both if HP falters. I don't see how SP matches up here at all. I don't think Woods or McGowan can take out Featherstone and just too much talent at doubles for HP to lose this match.

3p: HP v. Garland
This should be two 1-0 teams playing for sectionals. I think both will pull out their best lineup and I have to stick with HP on this match.

I wish I could make it out but going to LBH is just too far, maybe if they played at Lifetime Fitness and I could hop in the pool when I got too hot I would make it out. I am thinking about making a Sunday trip out to watch some tennis but most likely not 4.0 since that match will be rather boring.

Good luck to all today. Well almost all of you. :)

  1. HP will crush Garland today at 3

  2. 4-1 HP over Garland. An hour away from the HP Springpark match. It should be good, temp is getting up there and LBH is not cool no matter what the temp. By far one of the worst places to play in the heat, shade is about an hour down the road.

  3. Maybe HP should worry about Springpark

    ReplyDelete
  4. Too bad he best two level 4.0 teams, Garland and HP are in the same flight and only one can make Sectionals.

The two flight structure for DCC really sucks. We need a round robin to ensure the two best teams in Dallas advance to Sectionals.

  5. Congrats HP for their win over Garland 4-1

  6. MacFarlane double bageled, what happened there?

Congrats to Team Eddie as well.

I think both of these teams will be tough at sectionals, I will be out to support both of you all that weekend and hopefully one of you can get to Las Vegas and show some Dallas pride.

    ReplyDelete
  7. I'm sure the finals will be boring like last year. Both teams will probably not use their strongest line up so everyone can get some playing time. The finals don't mean anything anyway. Congrats to LFT and HP.

    ReplyDelete
  8. congrats to HP and Lifetime. i think eddie hill is still a dbag. Everyone saw him try to hook to win the match, but it was clearly in and the official overruled.

    ReplyDelete
  9. "the finals dont mean anything any more". what a messed up system. the dta really sucks.

  10. Eddie does cheat when he thinks he can get away with it. Sometimes I wish Eddie played at another club _ maybe L.B. Houston.

  11. MacFarlane is not very good. I am not surprised he lost 6-0, 6-0. It looks like he lost his last three league matches of the year. Serious choke.

Congrats to HP and Lifetime. I think HP has much better shot at sectionals. Lifetime's singles are very questionable...

    ReplyDelete
  12. In all fairness, Andy MacFarlane is probably the second hottest 4.0 player in Dallas after Trae Bowman!

  13. Congratulations to HP (Somabut) and Lifetime (Hill) on qualifying for Sectionals. Good luck to both teams.

  16. To Cary regarding bagels

First post here on the blog.

I simply played to much tennis this season. I was burned out 3 weeks ago, and that combined with now "two" sore knees equals a much needed rest till the fall season starts. That said congrats to HP, and my oppnent today and last evening. Maybee I should play some doubles, or do what seems common and hide/rest in doubles during the season and save myself for the playoffs. Nah not the way I roll.

To anon at 5:28 who said "I'm not very good" thats a fair comment if yourve watched my play the last couple of weeks only, but prior to my knee injury 16 wins without dropping a set against 4.0 players might suggest i'm actually not a bad player, Don Buford might agree (the last time I played the way I know I can). Some 4.5 players I beat and gave a good run during the early part of the season might also agree.

Not here to make excuses, simply answer the questions, and deffend against the anon who thinks i'm "noot very good :-). Mainly to congratulate the teams moving on in the playoffs, and congratulate my teammates for a fun season with a great group of guys run by a great captain who I have nothing but respect for.

Good luck to the teams left in the playoffs. Have fun, and try to stay cool this summer :-).

  17. Everyone says HP is really deep. Why are they only playing a few players?

    ReplyDelete
  18. In response to trying to "hook" someone. Are you kidding me. There was no overrule on that call because I never made a call. I pointed to the referee to ask her after Brandon had already called it good. She (the ref) was the closest person to the ball. The ball was never called out by anyone on the court. I pointed to the ref to ask her how she saw it. She said good and we moved on to win the match in straight sets on the next point. Don't hate... congratulate. Great job fellas at LTF. Great Job HP/Bob. Can't wait to play tomorrow. I am so proud of our guys for getting it done so far. Still have a lot of work to do.

    Eddie.

  21. It was a great tourney this weekend. A lot of fun, and of course goes without saying, glad our team made it to sectionals.

I got to see a lot of old faces again, and meet some new people along the way and had a great time. T Bar M (and some stray Springparkers) had some very comical guys (in a good way) supporting their team against us. AND even though it was a nail biter at the end, the guys were great. I guess that is what it is all about.

  28. Funny, only Featherstone was missing from HP's lineup but somehow we all knew if LTF won, the LTF haters and the HP brass would say it is tainted. LTF just has a better and deeper team this year but I believe (and hope) both LTF and HP sweep at Sectionals. This could be the year a Dallas team moves on so hopefully all will support their efforts.

    ReplyDelete
  29. look again Sherlock. Featherstone, Dencil JOhnson, Craig Weymer all rested. That is three lines right there.

    ReplyDelete
  30. not going to go tit for tat cause we are all going to sectionals and this was not an important match, but I don't think that Johan loses to Featherstone. I really don't. I will say that I wish HP well, and that I hope that we meet in the finals. They have a really good team.

    ReplyDelete
  31. If you don't play in city, can you still play in sectionals?

    ReplyDelete
  32. Nice tank job in the finals HP. Bob was smart not to play his 3 best players. Congrats to Lifetime and HP.

    ReplyDelete
  33. not sure it was a tank. LIfetime won fair and square

    ReplyDelete
  34. Not a total tank job but there is reason Bob has many of the same players that he had 8 years ago.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I agree that Bob maybe didn't have 2 or 3 other players out there, but are you saying the others aren't that good? I beg to differ.
I think Lifetime has 6 guys that got bumped up because they play every week. Why not keep playing them now?
Not losing a set is very strong against Robinson, Brouer, Kemp, Newman, Fenn, etc. No matter how you slice it....
I guess we all need to give LT congrats, they deserve it and are clearly an excellent team.

    "Lifetime's singles are very
    questionable..."

Are you serious??? You need to put down the crack pipe.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Wow, some of you guys are really dense. Here are the facts:
    1) The City Champ match was meaningless and HP/Somabut treated it like a meaningless match.
    2) HP sat out a number of their best players
    3) the ones that did play didnt try real hard. (Everyone knew that match was a joke.)

    4) We really have a dumb DCC structure. You need a round robin to pick the best TWO teams.

    ReplyDelete
  38. 4.0 ELITE LEAGUE???
None of you captains want to organize the 4.0 Elite League? Nothing wrong with the top teams playing each other every week. Or do you prefer shitty matches against weak teams in the fall?

    ReplyDelete
  39. USTA League is all about winning the important matches (the ones that count) and treating the meaningless matches for the joke they are. When you get a little more experience maybe you'll understand.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I agree about the first part of the previous post about the league being all about winning the important matches. If it had stopped there, I would've been on-board.

However, the rest of that post is ignorant and misinformed since it implies tanking and managing scores are acceptable.

  41. CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL DCC CHAMPS
    5.0 T Bar/Bartzen (wildcard Lakes/Welwood)
    4.5 OC / Branch
    4.0 LTF / Hill (wildcard HP/Somabut)
    3.5 GTC / Sisk (wildcard Huffines/Ratcliffe)
    3.0 CC / Bender

Although Senior Leagues are not real tennis, to recognize the old farts here are the senior winners:
    SENIOR 4.5 OC/Stewart
    SENIOR 4.0 T Bar / Jordan
    SENIOR 3.5 HP /Myers
    SENIOR 3.0 HP / Bender

SUPER SR 8.0 Springpark / Roten
SUPER SR 7.0 HP / Bender

I hope a bunch of our Dallas mens teams can make Nationals this year!

    ReplyDelete
  42. LOL at the idea that the HP players were not trying today!! HP may not have had a couple players in the lineup but they also lost 5-0 (sorry Myers gave up his line even though he won the 1st set and was up 4-1 in the second).

Those HP players in the lineup were trying and HP still had some of its better players in the lineup. Congrats LTF!

    ReplyDelete
  43. I have to agree. I watches the finals today and HP was trying to win that match. Bob sat Dencil Johnson, their best doubles player and Featherstone, the best singles player, but I'm not sure that they would have made a big enough difference to win the match for HP.

The players who played for HP are all very good players. The fact is, Lifetime is the DCC champion.

There is no * by the Lifetime win. They beat HP soundly and deserved the win.

That's two years in a row that HP has finished second in the DCC.

Congratulations to both teams and good luck at sectionals!

    ReplyDelete
  44. From an HP player that was there. Yes, we didn't have our tier 1 lineup in, BUT that is no excuse. HP was trying.

Hats off to Lifetime. Good win. Good luck to every one in sectionals.

    realist HP guy

    ReplyDelete
  45. Congrats to LT. They played well today, and are a good group of guys. Yes we rested some guys today, but all of us playing were trying to win. As much as a hate to say it everyone should give LT some respect. Eddie did a great job.(It was hard to type that). Hopefully we get to play again in a few weeks.

    ReplyDelete
  46. "Bob sat Dencil Johnson, their best doubles player and Featherstone, the best singles player, but I'm not sure that they would have made a big enough difference to win the match for HP."

We have all seen in the pro sports the slightest changes in players can make a big difference. this is not the pros, but it is a relative comparison.

That would have made a difference. Its all about the match up.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Keith,

Well said, I think it would be great if we could have an all Dallas finals at Sectionals this year. I feel both teams have a good chance to make a greta showing.

Both have good singles and doubles options and that is going to be needed in the August heat.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Thanks for those last three posts Keith. That really sums it up.

    ReplyDelete
  49. right, but eddie still sucks

    ReplyDelete
  50. I had fun today everyone on the HP team seemed cool. Bob you have a strong team and look forward to playing you guys again good luck.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Finally got a chance to sit down and respond to some of this stuff here. Let me start by saying again, Congrats to HP on making sectionals. they have a great team. Most importantly, Congrats to the Lifetime team. Our guys came through this weekend as they have all season. Many of us have come a long way since LIFETIME'S first attempt at the 4.0 level 2 years ago. It feels great to be DALLAS 4.0 CHAMPIONS!!!

As for all the critics and HP apologist...GROW UP!! Funny thing to me is every HP player that I have spoken with seem to be high quality people. Most of all Bob Somabut is a great guy and great leader of his team. I think he would be the first person to tell you that he put out a strong line-up that he thought would be able to win today. We were the better team today. Maybe 3 weeks from now we won't be. We'll see about that. Our team is not afraid of anyone at Sectionals and I think we showed what type of team we have this weekend. I will close as I have many times this year.... SEE YOU AT SECTIONALS!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  52. Lifetime has the much easier pool at sectionals. There was a big difference between being in pool 1 (wild dallas) and pool 2 (dallas). As ridiculous as this may sound, Lifetime actually has a shot at making it to the semis of sectionals. HP will have to battle each and every match and they will be worn out by Sunday.

    Good job both teams!!!

    ReplyDelete
  53. Keith,

That was a funny post. thank you. Lifetime, you played well and look to be much improved.

    ReplyDelete
  54. It looks to me like the scores of the finals were pretty unambiguous (Lifetime didn't drop a set). We got beat soundly by a very good team. Great job to Lifetime. At some point we need to stop making excuses and own up to a loss (regardless of who was in the HP lineup). In spite of the loss I'm very excited about our prospects at sectionals (even though I might not see any pt). I'm thankful to play on a team with such bright prospects for the post season. Great season to my team and also to Lifetime.

    ReplyDelete
  55. I have to take issue with the concept of HP "resting" players by not playing them in the finals. Resting them for what???????

    ReplyDelete
  56. They were already in sectionals. The finals didn't really mean anything. I think Bob wanted to see how a few other people played under playoff circumstances. You will also notice none of the self rated players played. Bob is a smart captain. There was no reason to risk his self rates in a meaningless match.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Anytime you are keeping score a match means something. I agree that Bob was smart not putting in his self-rates and risk them picking up flags, but Bob did not put in:

    Keith Robinson
    Steven Brouer
    Tim Newman
    Jared Kemp
    Steve Kemp
    Jimmy Fenn

to see how they would do.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Looks to me like some people trying to stay 4.0.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Who knows, Tran seems to have been going thru the motions and had to get another match in to qualify for later action is necessary. Weymer and Johnson are self rates that would have made a diff but in the end who cares. Both teams moving on and if you make it to Sunday at noon I will be there to see the top 8 from both teams.

If LTF'ers want to talk about meaningless Sunday matches, how about last Sunday's loss to SWAT. Were you playing hard then, we weren't playing all out and we will still won. Again who cares, I was playing guitar hero this Sunday.

Sectional flight for Team Dallas does seem good. Wild Waco (seriously) how did they get a wilcard, I think Houston or Dallas should have gotten two WC's before Waco should have received one. They had four teams total in their 4.0 league, WTF??????!!!!!!!!

No clue about the team that will come from the QT but usally they are not strong although it can be a surprise team that. I do think Austin and Lubbock could be tough. Austin won their flight last year.

Team Bob has FW to deal with, the team that narrowly beat them out for the semis last year. They have Munz on that team but after that it is essentially the same team they beat head to head last year. Wild SA, Noho and CC aren't powerhouses.

So actually I like HP to get out of this flight but Team Eddie could make it out as well if it falls right for them.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Hp did the same thing last year in the finals. If they truly wanted to win they would have put out a different line up.

    ReplyDelete
  61. You lone HP player putting a defense out there, please stop bringing down the rest of your team, and just lose graciously. You are making the 22 other guys on your team look bad. Stop it.

I, a lifetime player, hope that some of those haters can come out and say we did well and that we have now finally "played somebody". I think this team barked a lot; but I think it felt like it needed to bark, because it wasn't getting any respect.

For the many of you that wished us well on Sunday, we appreciate the kudos. Thank you.

Nothing else, the blog sure had some drama this year.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Were the scores entered wrong on the singles match for myers and fen?

    ReplyDelete
  63. To Anon 8:17 AM

So, when you truly wanted to win sectionals last year (but didn't make it out your flight) you would have put out a better lineup then as well, right. Please grow up and quit making excuses. It is a team effort, not individual.

8 best players usually do not play every match. If they did, Bob would not have recruited 20+ people for the team. He would have recruited 10 or 11 at most and you probably wouldn't have made the lineup.

    ReplyDelete
  64. No they are right. Myers was winning 6-4, 4-1 and then forfeited when he was told LFT had already won.
Winning player (Fenn) score is always the first number entered for each set.

    ReplyDelete
  65. I have an idea that could smooth a lot things out. How about a 5 line line match between LTF and HP with the losing team making a donation to the winning team of say $5000. That donation would help defray Vegas expenses. If the losing team goes to sectionals and wins, the the winner of the match has to return the $5000. If the winner goes to Vegas they get to keep the money. If neither team makes to Vegas then the winner of the challenge match keeps the donation.

    Yes??????

    ReplyDelete
  66. I didn't know you were a lifetime hater Cary? LTF will go all the way to Finals this year.

After this weekend, I feel that this team is too strong not to go that far.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Let Mr. Hill and Mr. Somabut discuss it with their teams and decide. Each team could pass the hat or get a backer. Either way if a Dallas team wins it will help pay for the trip to Nationals.

One more note: I don't think you could get a better rehearsal for Sectionals than these two teams playing each other with something on the line.

    ReplyDelete
  68. I'm very suprised that we didn't see Doug Smith in any of the matches at city. He was a mid season bump up and his scores are very solid. I at least thought he would be in the meaningless match against Lifetime. I was very impressed with Mudsam from Lifetime. I don't think this guy will lose at Sectionals.

    ReplyDelete
  69. The Wild San Antonio team is loaded. Not a smart move to hand Lifetime the easier path to Sunday. I wouldn't be happy if I was on Bob's team.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Mudsam had some very impressive wins this weekend. It might cause some to wonder what he was doing playing 3.5 last year!

    ReplyDelete
  71. with 25 people on the roster, I see why you are trying to raise money. How about everyone on the team chip in for the best 8 players and the rest stay home. We don't want any excuses when Joe Blow couldn't play and woulda coulda shoulda because he didn't have the money.
You won't need that much money that way.

    ReplyDelete
  72. "Mudsam had some very impressive wins this weekend. It might cause some to wonder what he was doing playing 3.5 last year!"

People improve. Mudsam is head and shoulder better than he was last year. He has developed more weapons, and is arguably the best player on the team.

    ReplyDelete
  73. People do improve, but not 2 level over one year. I guess that means at the pace he's going he should be a 5.5 by the end of next season.

Seems like a very nice guy, just probably way below level last year.

Good luck to Johan and the rest of the LT team at sectionals. You have a very good team and should do well at sectionals.

I should not have singles out Johan, there were a number of players I saw this weekend who were playing 3.5 last year who beat ESR 4.5 bump ups convincingly. Mudsam, Morrison, Defeo just to name a few.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Not a LTF hater at all and also cheering for Team Bob. I wish the best for both teams in a couple of weeks and as i mentioned I plan on getting out to watch and support both teams.

Both almost got a gift from Copperfield who narrowly missed knocking out Jason Freeman's team this weekend. Instead they are coming to Dallas and also bringing LLTC SAP a team consisted of old Freeman players that he most likely had a hand in creating as well. Both should be very good. I wish i knew more about SA, I will admit ignorance. I know Waco has a Bill Sanders team but the names on there were not overly scary but they will be a tough out for anyone and may just make it to Sunday.

    ReplyDelete
  75. Let's face it, LTF has the best team.

    ReplyDelete
  76. LT, you'd make a very good politician!

    ReplyDelete
  77. Cary. FYI

"If LTF'ers want to talk about meaningless Sunday matches, how about last Sunday's loss to SWAT. Were you playing hard then, we weren't playing all out and we will still won." Unlucky Thunder

Are you serious with this comment. The difference here vs what you get from one HP fool everytime they lose is that you did not hear one Lifetime player make claims about not having our best line-up in play. The reason for that is we don't make excuses, we play as hard as we can with the line-up we have against the line-up the other team puts out. The other real difference is that Lifetime already won the tournament.. Done, over, could have forfiet every line. HP and Lifetime were playing for Dallas City Championship and for a better flight in sectionals. So for you to compare that to a match vs SWAT when the QT was over is idiotic. I hope you are smarter than that.

    ReplyDelete
  78. Yeah Cary, I hope you and team SWAT enjoy that dead match victory. You will be telling all your friends about beating the DCC champ all summer while Lifeime is still playing.

    ReplyDelete
  79. $5000 is only $625 per man if you assume 8 only. ok lets go

In response to your next post: That's what I thought, you know the old saying about money talking and --ll---t walking?

  80. I'm not making the check out to anonymous and not making it out to Bob. Show your name so we'll know.

    ReplyDelete
  81. Cash only. I don't care where you get your money so it's none of your business where HP's come from. A mutually agreed upon bystander can hold the donations.

    ReplyDelete
  82. I didn't ask where HP's money was coming from, please read again or did you miss 2nd grade?

    ReplyDelete
  83. You guys are smoking crack if u really think people are going to put any money up on tennis. If it was $20 each, I still wouldn't want to do it...

    ReplyDelete
  84. Congrats To LTF and HP! Good luck at Sectionals!

    ReplyDelete
  85. If you want to go disrespectful - "did you miss second grade" - then no I did not miss 2nd grade raisin nuts.

    ReplyDelete
  86. This fund raising idea is just that. Nothing malicious, just a way to have fun, get a good match in, and hopefully one of the teams from Dallas goes to nationals and has some $$ thrown their way to help with expenses.

    ReplyDelete
  87. I think the two best 4.0 teams advanced to Sectionals, but the system is really flawed when the final match on Sunday is almost meaningless. The 3.5s had to battle to the end to make Sectionals and it made for a much more exciting conclusion. The 4.0 format is designed for manipulation and really lessens the importance of being city champs.

    ReplyDelete
  88. Hey Mr. Noes (sisk apologist), what happend to the mighty garland 4.0 team that was suppose to dominate? That's what I thought all John Sisk hype! What's the deal John couldnt cheat your way to a 4.0 city championship?

    ReplyDelete
  89. Cary,
You know better than to try and reason with ltf. They only claim they werent trying to win (against you guys) cause they lost, but since they beat HP then they really wanted that one... Why would Meyers retire up 4-1 in the second? Have some pride! Win 2 more games then retire! Typical Lifetime!

    ReplyDelete
  90. Lets talk about the Major zone or Combo tournament

    ReplyDelete
  91. I was never on Sisk's 4.0 bandwagon. I told John to his face on Saturday that I thought HP was the better team. I also picked Lifetime to win the DCC earlier in the season. John's depth was weak in doubles and singles ringers were not locks to win. The good news is he didn't lose anybody and he is a 4.0 now so the focus will be on that team in the fall.

    ReplyDelete
  92. I may post a FW major zone thread. Since I got the worst draw in 8 years of playing tournaments I am less excited about it now. If I get time this week, I will start one.

    ReplyDelete
  93. SCOREBOARD!!!!!

Lifetime won the QT. HP/bazaan went home.

Lifetime won the DCC. Other than Bob's team...Everyone else went home.

    Enough said.

  94. I'm just glad all the LT guys are classy winners.

  97. Congrats to Eddie and Bob for leading their teams to sectionals!!! See you guys in a month.

  99. Ft Worth Major Zone ...
Appears to me that the bottom half of the 4.0 doubles draw appears to be a really tough draw. I don't see any walkthrough wins except maybe 1 or 2 in the 3 pm rounds and that is it.

    Purser
    Newman
    Sharp
    Myers
    Terrell
    Adamick

  100. All of the guys listed below on Bob's team have been at least bumped up to 4.5 twice in the last year.

    Keith Robinson
    Steven Brouer
    Tim Newman
    Jared Kemp
    Steve Kemp
    Jimmy Fenn

It's bullshit that their still playing at the 4.0 level.

I sure hope these guys have the balls to move up.

    ReplyDelete
  101. I do play 4.5 when I get bumped. It's not my fault the computer moves me back down.

    ReplyDelete
  102. Anon 10:37 - your facts are just wrong. Not all those players have been bumped to 4.5. At least one has never been bumped to 4.5.

Maybe you should just play 3.5.

    ReplyDelete
  103. 4.0 is the new 3.5. Get your play together now and get better, or plan on being bored on the court and dramatized off of it (ie. name calling, gossiping like a bunch of girls, calls of cheats, liars, and stealing, stupid accusations, and sore losing).

    ReplyDelete
  104. I don't see anyone at sectionals that can stop LTF.

    ReplyDelete
  105. Just imagine if they still had Vadat.

    1S Vadat
    2S Mudsam
    1D Morrison-Kennedy
    2D Hill-Myers
    3D Moore-Brinkman

Who in 4.0 takes 3 lines from that line-up.

    ReplyDelete
  106. I don't know what Houston has this year, but Last year's Houston team would have probably beat this year's LT 4-1 or 3-2. They had two self-rated singles players who were head and shoulders above any of the singles players I saw at the DCC.

LT has an excellent team and I hope and expect they will do well. The truth is, at Sectionals the singles players can be way out of level.

Usually to win at Sectionals you have to split the singles and win two of the three doubles. On the better teams there will be no weak doubles teams.

    ReplyDelete
  107. Hp would sweep all 3 of those doubles lines. Don't be fooled by your results in the DCC.

    ReplyDelete
  108. With all the crying on here, I guess the 3.5 bump ups have arrived. Imagine how bad it would be had LTF lost, their tears would probably shor circuit the internet.

As for Keith, was Tosha really worth sleeping with to get moved back down? I am not ridiculing you for playing down more just perplexed how you got moved back down. The computer does some weird stuff.

    ReplyDelete
  109. Post season/playoff results have biggest impact on rating, if you look at certain players results in these matches you can see why they get moved up or down. Tournaments have virtually no impact and regular season league has minimal impact. Its how you do against other benchmarks that matters.

    ReplyDelete
  110. "Don't be fooled by the results at the DCC?"

I guess your saying the team you put out there was not very good?

So we beat T Bar M, the team that you lost to during the season, then we beat you all, but now you say we can't count that result either? I guess T Bar M wasn't putting out a very good line up when we played them either then according to you?

I think you should stop on in for a reality check. We are either better than you think, or you are not as good as you think.

Bob better see you boys get on the court a little bit more often in the next 3 weeks, or the real reality is you are going to crash and burn at sectionals.

    ReplyDelete
  111. The real reality is that HP got their ass kicked 0-5. GOOSE EGGED IN YOUR FACE. Did not win 1 line, did not win 1 set.

Maybe you should "Not Be Fooled by the DCC results".

    ReplyDelete
  112. If LT wants to set up a scrimmage I'm sure HP would show you what their real line up is like.
    HP 4-1

    ReplyDelete
  113. Houston's singles were good last year (same as Eugene Davis) but I've heard they are better this year - scary.

    I see an all-Dallas semi.

    ReplyDelete
  114. All Dallas semi? There are 4 teams in the semis and only 2 dallas teams. Numbers don't add up

    ReplyDelete
  115. I am not a player in the 4.0 league. Mention this because I am not emotionally attached to any team just a big tennis fan who came out to watch Saturday.

What I saw was that Lifetime and HP are really 4.5 teams but that is ok because that is what it takes to win secitonals (if you do not like it tough luck facts are facts). HP tanked and I do not blame them in the finals WHO CARES both teams advanced!!!!!!!!!!
Quit the crying facts are facts it was a wwII tank job so just move on. Maybe both teams will meet in finals of sectionals and I promise THERE WILL BE NO TANKING so we will see who is really the best.

Great tennis out there everyone, all should be proud.

    ReplyDelete
  116. I am pretty close with the HP players and I can tell you that they are still licking their wounds.

    ReplyDelete
  117. All this is kinda funny. I don't think the finals was that big a deal to most of our players. Yes, the guys playing wanted to win. I hate losing, but the finals really didn't mean much. I think it meant more to LT, because they had something to prove. The goal was to make sectionals, and we did that. LT won city, and congrats to them. They played well all weekend. The goal now is to make it to nationals. If neither of us make it it dosen't really matter who has the best team.

    ReplyDelete
  118. I do not understand why anyone is making sunday's match a big deal. I played on Sunday and would have not even showed up, but my Capt. told me the team would get an easier draw if we won. So I understand if Bob wanted to rest some of his guys no big deal I look forward to seeing them at sectionals that is if I am in the line up.

    ReplyDelete
  119. Bob resting his players for what? The losers celabration at the Waffle House or Monday morning at the office??? You are a good guy with a BIG "S" on your forehead!!!

    ReplyDelete
  120. "You are a good guy with a BIG "S" on your forehead!!!"

How is that my team won???

    ReplyDelete
  121. TO: BOB SOMABUT
The LTF/Hill team is now strutting like peacocks. They are just too dumb to realize what happened on Sunday.

Let's have a practice match HP vs LTF prior to Sectionals. It would be good practice for both teams. But your "A" players in the line-up and let them play this time. Also let's bet $500 per player.

EDDIE HILL ARE YOU MAN ENOUGH FOR THAT? (What's the problem, you beat them so easily on Sunday?) Bob Somabut let's put an end to all the LTF bragging.

    ReplyDelete
  122. I can't decide what's worse, the arrogant HP folks or the arrogant Lifetime folks. While I will agree the Lifetime folks are naive about sectionals, the HP folks are living in years past so therefore they are naive as well.

Eddie has done a really good job getting his team to sectionals and is being rewarded with a very favorable pool (I still don't expect them to make it to Sunday but they have a better chance than HP).

Bob is a consistent captain who certainly has experience on his side with a ton of veteran players. However, they screwed up and didn't take the championship to get in pool 2 (Lifetime, congrats, but you are the 2nd best team in Dallas - you were handed a gift by an overly arrogant team). It will be difficult for any team at sectionals to beat the Wild San Antonio team much less having Fort Worth, Corpus Christi and NOHO to contend with in your pool. What were you thinking?

I hope HP and Lifetime prove me wrong and kick ass in August.

The DCC is over, lets stop focusing on it.

    ReplyDelete
  123. We will see them Sunday morning, Sept 9th. We just played them 3 days ago... Why would we play them again? We will play a practice match next week, but only against a 4.5 team. All this talk is just that. The real match was on Sunday. we have a great road to sectional simi's because of that win. I hope we see HP then. They are a great time. I think we are better. We will see Sept 9th.

    SEE YOU AT SECTIONALS!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  124. I agree that the match was not that big of a deal. Captain said we would have our matches spread out more evenly and an easier bracket if we won vs if we did not win. To get to Nationals you have to beat the best team somewhere along the way anyway.

The 2 Dallas teams should meet in the semis again, and I see that bracket being an all Dallas semi.

I don't think you saw any LTFers strutting like Peacocks until you saw water being sprayed on their feathers by HP.

I feel pretty positive that there will be a rematch.

    ReplyDelete
  125. I'm glad LTF won. HP seems to be full of Jerks.

    ReplyDelete
  126. It is interesting hearing Lifetimer's talk about sectionals and nationals. Hey guys, YOU'VE NEVER BEEN THERE BEFORE!!!!! HP is better than you, they go every year and they aren't good enough for nationals either. Stop sounding like jackasses.

You play Austin and Lubbock in your pool (Lubbock WON Texas last year). I doubt either Dallas team is playing on Sunday.

    ReplyDelete
  127. Here we go again with the same fools that talk big but sit at home now playing Wi Tennis while they wait for the Fall season to start. Those same guys said Lifetime could not get out of QT. (LTF won that quite easily)... Said LTF can't beat TBar (did that too). Said HP was in a league of their own (The No Sets Won League that is)... Now Lifetime won't make it to sectionals Sunday. We will see. Great thing is we can do more that talk about. We get to go out and do it in about 16 days.

SEE YOU AT Sectionals!!! Bring a comfortable chair.

    ReplyDelete
  128. I've been to sectionals before, I know exactly what it is like.

While the excitement and intensity is much higher in sectionals, truth be told, the matches won't be any different than the T Bar M match we played in cities.

I relish the underdog role. Just more motivation. So tell me I haven't been there before, 3.5 doesn't count, etc. You didn't play the 3.5 sectionals, so you dint see the intensity or the level of players there. We played the 3.5 Lubbock team in the semis last year. I know the intensity. I relish it.

You've never been there. This team had never been to Cities either. - Here we are.

    ReplyDelete
  129. I think Life Time will advance much further in the draw.

    ReplyDelete
  130. I think HP will go further because of Bob's top secret training tactics and incentives. Here is a brief list of the special preprations HP is going through to make it to Nationals:
    1) The doubles teams for HP have played a few practice matches so far, blindfolded, while Bob randomly tickles them.
    2) For each set they win in the upcoming tourney, HP doubles teams get a CiCi's pizza coupon (not each player but one to share with partner), singles guys get buy one get one free coupons for Chipotle.
    3) HGH, there is no testing for this, HP knows the rules
    4) Bob has collected droplets of sweat from a Roger Federer match used towel, each HP member will secretly recieve one droplet of Roger-sweat each in their water bottles before every match.
    5) HP has also collected tear drops from local Dallas strippers and will place a drop in each of their competitor's refreshment bottles.

    ReplyDelete
  131. KERN FOR PRESIDENT------ HE SAID KEITH'S LOSS WOULD BE ONLY IF BOB PUT STEPHEN BOUER WITH HIM--- CAN YOU GIVE ME SIX LUCKY NUMBERS FOR LOTTO KERN?

    ReplyDelete
  132. BMo, you might want to let your playing on court do your talking. With this group, rest assured that your words will be held against you.

    ReplyDelete
  133. Now that CiCi's pizza coupon was one for the whole team. CiCis is all you can eat, they only need one plate.

    ReplyDelete
  134. Bla, bla, bla, between Eddie and Bmo trying to justify getting to sectionals with all of the I told you so bullshit I am getting more than a little sick of it. STFU and play, Eddie quit trying to hide at doubles with the strongest partner you can find, and morrison quit living in your 3.5 past and try and win a match at 4.0 sectionals before you spout off again!

    HP Rules!

    ReplyDelete
  135. FROM TENNISLINK:
    Bob Somabut took his 4.0 team to Sectionals in 2002, 2003, 2004, 2006, 2007, 2008, and 2009.

That makes 4 years in a row and 7 times in the last 8 years.

His 4.0 team won Sectionals in 2003 and finished runner-up at Nats.

Any captain anywhere have a better record?

How many times has Eddie Hill taken his team to Sectionals?

    ReplyDelete
  136. "Eddie quit trying to hide at doubles with the strongest partner you can find"

This sounds like a very smart person LOL

    ReplyDelete
  137. LT appears to have more class than HP.

    ReplyDelete
  138. I think it is just me be so talented and flexible that I can play with anybody. I don't need a set partner. A month ago I was called a terrible doubles player. Now I am hiding? at line 1 vs the best team ever created while playing with a guy that was rated 3.5 3 months ago and readily admits how fat and out of shape he is.(Love ya (.Y.)). Not sure what to make that comment for the HP lover.

    Eddie

    ReplyDelete
  139. 3 years ago Eddie was a 1.5 player.

    ReplyDelete
  140. The HP or LT argument is getting old. LT won city. They get city champ bragging rights. Let's move on.

    ReplyDelete
  141. Oh yeah. Just an example of what kind of fools we have on this blog. I play Doubs in a big match and I am hiding??? If I put myself at line 1 singles for that match, you would get all the comments about how big my ego is and I need to move over and let better players play singles. You people a fools. I enjoy laughing about it. I will always do what is best for our team. I know our team like no one else does. Sometimes I play singles sometimes I play doubles. Sometimes I lose, most of the time I win.. The key is that WE win. Go Lifetime!

SEE YOU ALL AT SECTIONALS!!!! Oh my bad, not all of you. Enjoy Wi Tennis Cary!

    Eddie

    ReplyDelete
  142. Ok Mr. Superstar Eddie, If your so freaking great, lets see you at Sectionals playing with your boyfriend Morrison at doubles instead of leting (Y) carry you. Thats what I thought...

Oh and good luck against the 3.5 Yarmenko in Ft. Worth you are going to need it Mr. 4.5...

    ReplyDelete
  143. I agree, argument is getting old. I think we could use a Ft Worth thread. It DOES start tomorrow.

Who are the 4 teams in the semis in 4.0 dubs? that's not an easy answer.

okay, just to change the subject, I pushed the appeal button yesterday (yes, I was tempted by the serpent and that damn apple) just to see what would happen, and I think its not working and you have to send it manually during the fall. - No I won't be going through that much trouble to send it in.

It said my new rating is 4.0 and my appeal down from 4.0 was denied. It should have said new rating of 4.5... appeal down was whatever. So, for your true want to be appealers... send them manually. I believe that to be the correct process.

    ReplyDelete
  144. LOL! Y is too fat to carry anybody! - Cheers Alex

Seriously though, Eddie is an athelete and can hold his own out there. He doesn't need to hang on anyone's back. No matter what - haters will hate.

    ReplyDelete
  145. FYI. Morrison and I both play the duece court dumbass. so we never play together. Have to choose from one of 4 guys on team that play Add court.

    ReplyDelete
  146. Man, I'm so glad LT made Sectionals so I can get more Eddie posts. Now not only is he talking smack but he's backing it up! I love it. When would LT play Wild Houston, I'm too lazy to look it up. I would love it if Eddie beat Freeman's team, I think Freeman might cry. Good luck Eddie, let me know where to bring you Gatorade.
As far as predicting Keith would lose with Brouer, I can't take much credit for that. Keith is good but not good enough to carry Brouer. Maybe one day he can try to carry me and let us know if Stephen or I is heavier.
Good luck to both HP and LT.

    ReplyDelete
  147. We couldn't even win our own city much less sectionals. It will be a fun trip. I'm just excited I get some more USTA socks :)

    Kern, do you ever work?

    ReplyDelete
  148. Lifetime would have won Houston just as easily as we won Dallas. Actually, name the city and you'll get the same answer. Those "Wild" (i.e., loser) teams should go play at Little State.

    ReplyDelete
  149. Those are USTA socks Freeman. I tought you just had USTA tatooed on those pasty ankles of yours.

    ReplyDelete
  150. Not sure who that is talking trash for Lifetime, but I can tell you it isn't me and I have the biggest mouth on the team. So that tells me it is someone else probably from HP trying to make Lifetime look bad. We only talk trash to defend ourselves. I know Freeman well enough to know he doesn't talk trash about his team. Nice try whoever is trying to start something. Did not work. I have a lot of respect for the teams at sectionals. Especially Houston and Freeman's team. We will have our hands full for every match.

    Eddie

    ReplyDelete
  151. "Kern, do you ever work?"

Coming from someone who seems to be monitoring boards inside and outside of Houston so carefully, ...

    ReplyDelete
  152. this is getting really old and I am pretty sure alot of this shit talking isnt coming from any HP players. prolly some lifetime haters just buzzing it up.

    hp player

    ReplyDelete
  153. I just got home from a swank club on Main Street, needless to say this hot piece of ass is in my bathroom throwing up the 8 diet redbull and vodkas she had so she can come climb in bed. Let me tell you guys, all I did was mention that I once played Eddie and lost to him and she came home with me. Seriously, I am getting more ass thrown at me by losing to Eddie than Tony Romo ever dreamed about, USTA Leagues rock!

    ReplyDelete
  154. She is still throwing up, well I have a few more seconds. So I am planning on dominating 4.0 Nationals in 2035. How? Well, I am gonna have Eddie father some children with any player in the top 50 of the WTA (I am sure we can get enough offspring to field a team, might have to hedge our bets to make sure we get enough males, but the females can help me dominate TCD as well!). By then Bob will have taken his teams to what, like 44 straight sectionals and I can break the greatest sports streak of all time, ahahahaha, oh gotta go, she just finished with the Listerine, yes!

    ReplyDelete
  155. (.Y.) please keep you sexploits to your self. thanks

    ReplyDelete
  156. There won't be a Fort Worth MZ write up b/c Corey is the one that always does the MZ write ups.

This week, he saw his draw and immediately withdrew instead of taking his beating. Talk about yellow.

    ReplyDelete
  157. I thought that must be a joke post, but it's correct that he withdrew from singles. As of right now, he's still listed in the doubles draw though.

    ReplyDelete
  158. I didn't deny that. I actually had to work on Friday but I probably wouldn't have played anyway. Had nothing to do with the ability of my opponent but him personally. My match with him was the most unpleasant experience I've ever had in a tournament. I didn't want to do that again.

We did play him in doubles yesterday though and it was fine, even though we got killed.

    ReplyDelete
  159. By the way, this blog is called "Dallas League Tennis."

    ReplyDelete
  160. Eddie wins the Ft Worth Open!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  161. congrats Eddie for winning major zone. very impressive.

    HP guy

    ReplyDelete
  162. "By the way, this blog is called "Dallas League Tennis."

Then don't ever post another tournament write up again if that's the defense you want to use. You are something else.

    ReplyDelete
  163. I already put my defense. That was a sidenote. My responsibilities on this blog are 4.5 league, nothing else. If you want to initiate a tournament conversation, nobody is stopping you.

    ReplyDelete
  164. Thanks HP guy. Man am I tired. I have no idea how Brandon won 2 4.0Major Zones in a row. You have to beat a lot of good players in a short period of time. Congrats to another Lifetimer Brian Studey for winning the 4.0 consolation bracket. The best part of the weekend was talking to all the other guys from different areas that are on teams that made sectionals. It is going to be tough.

See you all at sections in 11 days.

    Eddie

    ReplyDelete
  165. What's more amazing than you winning Eddie is congratulating yourself in four different anon posts.

    :))))

    Nice playing.

    ReplyDelete
  166. As far as tourney posts, I would love to keep up with that but there is only so much time in a day. And I don't pretend to know about any of the players from out of town or care to do the research. Volunteers are always welcome, complainers can $*&^ it.

    :)

    ReplyDelete
  167. Sounds good Cary.

Lifetime is rolling through these major zones. Winning a major zone at any level is a huge accomplishment. Congrats Eddie.

    ReplyDelete
  168. Nice pic on the front Cary, that is hilarious.
    But seriously, excellent win Eddie!

    ReplyDelete
  169. Lifetime has to be considered the favorite to win 4.0 sectionals. You can't argue with the accomplishments this team has.

    ReplyDelete
  170. LT won't even make it out of their bracket at sectionals. They won't be able to pick up any doubles lines.

    ReplyDelete
  171. Congratulations Eddie the 4.5 player winning the 4.0 Ft. Worth tournament! You should feel really good about yourself! Why dont you just play up to the level that you were just given?

Lifetime will get rocked at Sectionals!

    GTC.

    ReplyDelete
  172. Congrats on winning the major zone this weekend Eddie!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  173. There is always a hater, someone that can't help but be upset at someone else's accomplishments. Who knows what team you are on, but it looks to me like someone trying to stir the beehive. Looks like a fake post, and not even worth responding to it.

    ReplyDelete
  174. thanks Jason, Cory and others. I love this blog... First I am not good enough to be in our line-up, now I am too good and out of level. Funny that someone from Garland would make that comment???

    See you all at sectionals.

    Eddie

    ReplyDelete
  175. what a bunch of doochbags on this blog

    ReplyDelete
  176. Funny how 2 weeks ago, there were posts that Lifetime singles wasn't good enough to take lines from other teams, but doubles was good. Now, there's posts that they won't pick up any doubles lines???? Too funny.

    ReplyDelete
  177. Lifetime's team is looking pretty scary right now.

    ReplyDelete
  178. Congrats Eddie on winning Ft. Worth. This now qualifies you as
the man. Way to represent Dallas strong!!!

By the way, with all the people that rag on Eddie, at least for a
day you ought to at least give him his props for job well done.

    ReplyDelete
  179. I concur with the last statement. Job well done Eddie. Congratulations; you have much to be proud of.
    Fraser

    ReplyDelete
  180. Nice Job Eddie,

I'm inspired by your return from the surgery table to Major Zone Champion and Capt of USTA Dallas team who are heading to the nationals,
You are truly "the wind beneath my wings"

I should have jumped on your band wagon instead of Kaisers.

    ReplyDelete
  181. Lifetime now has 3-4 guys they can put out there in singles and still be confident in a singles sweep at sectionals. Just rotate your horses Eddie, no team can hang. By Sunday all the other teams will be dead in singles and your guys will be fresh. Follow your instincts like you have all year. Sectionals now just seems like a formality along the way to nationals.

    ReplyDelete
  182. I almost don't know what to say. Not something that happens very often to me. Thanks again guys. We have a great group of players on our team that have pushed each other all year. No different than other good teams I guess. I hope it pays off next weekend.

    Eddie

BTW... LTBL that "wind beneth my wings" comment was pretty good. Seriously though, I was thinking about how I felt on July 27th 2008. Our team just lost 3-2 for a chance to go to sectionals and I was scheduled for shoulder surgery in 3 days. What a difference a year makes.

    ReplyDelete
  183. Actually, the 'wind beneath my wings' statement was pretty gay.

    Otherwise, congratulations onthe win.

    ReplyDelete
  184. He was kidding with that comment.. Hello. I think Eddie understood that too.

    ReplyDelete
  185. I think he just got lucky and Brandon must have saved himself for a better shot at doubles w/ whats his name (goatboy). Myers is still much better. HP all the way!!!

    ReplyDelete
  186. Yes, I think brandon must have thought he was better at doubles and Eddie would take singles and LTF would look good in the mean time. But Fort Worth will win sectionals. Just hide and watch you yellow belly cowards.

    ReplyDelete
  187. Thank you for your opinion'io Mr. P. Trevinio. Now go and practice your own game'io. You may make it passed the round of 32'io in San Antinio. Do you hear me'io. You're not even on the team'io.

    ReplyDelete
  188. ??? What was that all about ???

    ReplyDelete
  189. It's an inside joke. Just don't worry about it. You will never get it.

    ReplyDelete
  190. Hey Black Panther, save your sucking up to Eddie, you have already burned those bridges... besides your making Morrison jelous.

    ReplyDelete
  191. TB3 doesn't play for Eddie

    ReplyDelete
  192. I agree with the Fort Worth comment above. If they can get past Wild San Antonio and Dallas they should win sectionals. They are the deepest team at sectionals. Maybe Miller will be the benificiary of another Somabut gift just like last year.

    ReplyDelete
  193. LTF better not start thinking too highly of themselves before Sectionals. It's a dangerous game to play. Don't take any wins for granted or overlook anyone, or it may come back to haunt you.

    ReplyDelete
  194. Lopez/Wynn from Ft Worth are a good doubles team. Just ask everyone they played. They gave up 1 set this past weekend at the Ft Worth MZ.

    ReplyDelete
  195. C'mon CoreDawg -- I wish you wouldn't enter a tournament when you're working on the first day of it. It's a good thing your doubles wasn't also on Friday, although why play if you had a problem with him? Was it his antics, line calling, etc. that bothered you?

    ReplyDelete
  196. And those guys may not even be in Fort Worth's starting lineup.

    ReplyDelete
  197. Cary. Please start a new entry on 4.0 Sectionals talk. thanks.

    ReplyDelete
  198. yeah. New 4.0 entry. this is beating!!!!

    ReplyDelete
