4.0 Sectionals Preview

So I want Eddie to have a good weekend and talk about himself some more so I decided I would put this out. Thanks to some of you including the Houstonians who offered insights into the teams but as most of you know there is always going to be some mystery at sectionals. I know nobody except the guys from Lubbock in 2008 thought they had a snowballs chance in hell of winning last year.

So it begins with FLIGHT I. It has been nicknamed the FLIGHT OF DEATH and I know some of questions whether team Wild Dallas chose this spot or was put there by Lifetime but in the end it doesn't matter.

Corpus Christi (30 to 1)

I don't know much about them but just have to go off history. I don't think they won't be competitive I just don't see them finishing at the top of this very tough heap of teams.

Noho (15 to 1)

The Houston Blog had some good insights on these guys since they are neighbors so you might want to check that out for exact names, etc. Much like CC I can see how this team could pull off an upset but not 2-3 upset wins to be in contention. They did have a DQ player so you know they aren't just coming for the socks, they will be in the mix and causing trouble for the top three teams.

Fort Worth (8 to 1)

I know this team is very good which shows you just how good this flight is since I am picking them to finish 3rd. Munz seems like a lock to win and strong players like Spector, Bell, Reid, Wynn, Lopez and Stetzer will make them very tough to beat. I think it will be depend on just what doubles teams Wynn and Lopez match up against. I think they might be beaten by Bob's top line or SA's top line so it will be important to land the right matchups and they may just come out on top.

Wild San Antonio (5 to 1)

I think it has been noted elsewhere that even though this team came in second they are probably the better SA team and may just be the top team in Texas. Everyone knows the names Wood and Zepeda but there are some solid results from other guys on this team like Mojico, Pacheco, Mugueroza and Vaca. I wish I knew more personally about this team but just on paper this team is pretty scary. Due to the depth they seem to have at doubles was the reasoning I see them just a cut above FW.

Wild Dallas (2 to 1)

Call me a homer but I have to get behind Team Bob. After last years shocking flight disaster in the final match I think this group is very focused on one goal and that is making it back to Sunday. There are no secrets this team will be carried by Johnson, Featherstone, Weymer, Fenn, Jarad and Robinson. They will only go as far as these six players can go and that is not a knock against the other guys but I don't think they are relying on wins from anyone else. With that said if Carlquist/Nguyen can reemerge as a force they could make it hard for the other top teams to take a doubles line.

Flight II

This is a rather strange flight and I have a feeling it might get decided early on Saturday morning as Austin takes on Lifetime.

Wild Waco (75 to 1)

I don't think I am the first or last to say it is shocking this team is coming to sectionals. I would be shocked if they take a match against anyone.

QT-College Station (50 to 1)

Another wierd entry, they played Abilene for a right to come to Dallas so I guess they and Wild Waco can battle it out for 4th place.

Lubbock (25 to 1)

I know nobody will overlook this team but I am not sure they are bringing any firepower this time around. I have a feeling one or two names on this roster my jump up and surprise somebody because I find it hard to believe after a taste of winning they will just come and play for fun.

Austin (8 to 1)

I know they might not to want to hear it again but most don't think they are best Austin team but they can commiserate with Eddie on how that feels as they play each other. Peterson, Barlas and Spacek anchor a pretty strong team but nothing jumps out and says Sunday contender on this team but maybe they will just gut out another big win and prove everyone wrong and maybe get a rematch with Wild Austin.

Lifetime (EVEN)

To quote Jacques (I think I just threw up in my mouth a little bit as I wrote that). It is hard for me to pick against them after listing the resumes of the other teams in this flight. This team is pretty good. Myers can win against just about anyone out there and in Eddie's mind he can beat anyone playing including guys in the 5.5 bracket. I hate to put the pressure on the other guys but their success will come down to guys like Kennedy, Moore, Brinkman, BMO and Shahab. This team was dangerously close to not making out of the QT with a tough win over OC and I have a feeling they will face another similar test and it will come down to the doubles guys to come up big. I see them as a slam dunk to get to Sunday (morning that is).

Flight III

This flight is all about the Hurricanes, they had their storm quashed by Springpark last year but I don't see that happened this time around. Kudos to the USTA for not putting Houston and Dallas in the same flight.

Valley (50 to 1)

I know Adrian brings this team every year and I admire that but this hill is just too steep for this team.

SETX and Midland (30 to 1)

Have finished middle of the pack in previous years and I don't see anything changing this time around. Morris and Shanks of SETX are very solid but one line v. the Canes or SA will not make it that interesting.

San Antonio (15 to 1)

This is the only team that poses any type of threat to the mighty Hurricanes. Names like Collier, Purser, Murray, Judkins (2), Garza and Del Rio look rather impressive. I actually see them matching up pretty well with the Hurricanes and by pretty well I mean just close enough to have Jason sweat for 20 to 30 minutes but as talented as this team is I just think they are notch below Houston. Bad luck for them I think they might have had enough to take out SAP or Lifetime in the other flights.

Houston-Hurricanes (5 to 2)

This team is full of talent and although they might not have top tier talent as in the last two years I think they have better depth. I mean they didn't even put Towle on the team. :) Vargas, Foster, Inting, Rice and others will make this team a force to be reckon all through the weekend. There is one name that scares me if I was a an opposing captain. Chambert, two matches, didn't play in the playoffs...hmmmmmmmmm RINGER, maybe? I could be wrong.

Flight IV

This flight might just be the most balanced but I still see if coming down to Waco v. Houston for the top spot but wouldn't be surprised if all teams end up with at least one loss.

San Angelo (20 to 1)
I am sure Team Bob would love to tell folks how not to underestimate this group and they return some of that same group that ruined a High Point return trip to Sunday a year ago. I find it hard to seem them landing at the top of the flight but would not be surprised for them to play spoiler once again.

Wild FW (15 to 1)
Not a bad team at all in fact they have some depth but Paul Trevino is one of their strongest singles players which is great if this wasn't Texas Sectionals. I see them involved in some close 2-3 losses.

NETX (10 to 1)
This team much like San Angelo could beat just about any team listed in this flight but not sure if they can win 4 matches or have a high enough win total to beat out Waco and Houston. The captain is a strong player as well Mercer and Bratcher who had good success when they ventured out of NETX. They team they beat to make it here was pretty solid so I know they are battled tested and ready to go.

Waco (7 to 1)
Freeman warned me about this group a year ago and Bill has a shot at returning to glory as he grabbed some of his old national champions and will take another run at it. Bill is strong himself and the Houston blog noted that Westbrook was the lynch pin to success so we will see if he can come out for 4 matches and help them get to Sunday. I know Hillestad/Schroeder from tri-level and I lost a close match to them with a very good partner. They are good and will be a tough out.

Houston-SAP (2 to 1)
Hard to pick against this team who made it through a very tough Houston 4.0 league. Some of these names sound painfully familiar from 3.5 sectionals a couple of years ago (Tongol, Goodwin and Johnson). In addition there are strong names like Alpard, Vu, Sontag and Grego. Then there is the big dog Chris Towle, who has been hitting with us lately during the week. He is as good as any 4.0 player here in Dallas.

Sunday: Dallas v. Wild Dallas, Houston v. Wild Houston

Sunday afternoon: SECTIONALS GONE WILD and the winner is WILD HOUSTON in a close 3-2 match that I will come watch.

  2. Good summary.

Thanks for the shout out. We are looking forward to playing through Sunday next weekend.

    ~Chris

  3. Good Summary. Towle is a superstar! Had a chance to play with his teammate Kyle Kray last week..he and his partner Perry Sontag will be another tough doubles combo up there.

  4. Congratulations on crafting the longest post ever,

I have played both Fort Worth teams,
And I think everyone is over-rating them.

Top to Bottom FW is weaker than Dallas.

I saw guys in FW that would not make it on to aDallas 3.5 team,

    Believe it!

    ReplyDelete
  5. Good analysis and write up, Corey

    ReplyDelete
  6. Chambert did play in Houston playoffs though.

    ReplyDelete
  7. I think Cary meant Uribe.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Cary's post not mine. Thanks though.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Good analysis. Lifetime definitely will be playing on Sunday. The Team Somabut loss to Lifetime in the finals of city will end up costing Bob a chance at Nationals. Too many hard matches to win Sectionals.

    ReplyDelete
  10. A little insight (very little) about Chambert of Houston Hurricanes. Yes, he is the Captains favored singles player. Your intuition will be proven correct.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Yesterday's news about the Dallas City.

I just don't understand why, with 6 days left until Sectionals it took them forever to update 4.0 teams, and they still only have 17 teams listed as of right now. I am wondering if there are going to be some last minute invitations come Monday?

    ReplyDelete
  12. shut up BMO. you suck and will get owned at Sectionals

    ReplyDelete
  13. its Not Dallas against Dallas anymore, bigger fish to fry now.

    ReplyDelete
  14. I wish both teams well at State!! Go "Big D"

    ReplyDelete
  15. Yes, Go Dallas forget this Team Somabut and Team Eddie stuff. Represent Dallas with good play and sportsmanship. And maybe a bad line call at the right time. Just Joking. Good luck to both Dallas teams.

    ReplyDelete
  16. On paper, no one can touch LTF. I mean no one!!!

    ReplyDelete
  17. somabuts team has a chance if bob doesnt use his 2nd string players and get beat by an inferior team (like last year)

    ReplyDelete
  18. I must have missed this the first time through the worlds longest Blog entry. You did not pick Lifetime to win it all???? Are you kidding me Cary? Can't wait to see you eat crow again. Lifetime wins the big one. See you in Vegas!!

    ReplyDelete
  19. Let's get out and support all our Dallas teams next weekend. Hopefully we can get a few mens teams to nats this year!

    ReplyDelete
  20. I cant believe your putting it all on Shahab and Bmo... dont you know that Johan, and Meyers will carry them in singles every match and then ltf will only need one line in doubs!

    ReplyDelete
  21. Will you guys please leave Bmo alone? He is a really nice guy!

    Eddie

    ReplyDelete
  22. 4.0 Sectionals and they are at Huffines?? Give me a break, what a joke!

    ReplyDelete
  23. hey Alex.. please don't make entries and sign my name to it. thanks

    the real Eddie

    ReplyDelete
  24. How do those guys carry someone when they are winning 4-1 and 5-0. Looks to me like every line at LTF is strong. They have 10-11 guys were there is no drop off in talent.

    ReplyDelete
  25. LOL! I don't need someone to take care of me, thank you though. LOL!

    ReplyDelete
  26. I know we are lucky to get a good flight and most likely Sunday will be very tough, if we get lucky we will make it close.

    Eddie

    ReplyDelete
  27. that sounds like the fake eddie

    ReplyDelete
  28. Must be fake Eddie. Real Eddie says we will crush all comers, nobody can take games much less matches or lines from the LTF machine. All hail me. I am Eddie.

Eddie is like Cher or Madonna; he only needs one name. One says Eddie and the entire world knows who you are talking about.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Funny. You guys are right though. I would never say we are lucky. I don't believe in luck. I believe in outworking people and good things happen. And BTW...yes we will crush the competition this weekend!!!

    The real Eddie.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Dont get your hopes up, 4.0 Dallas teams won't even make it out of their flight.

    Wild Waco

    ReplyDelete
  31. Good Summary. However, I think you have the San Antonio teams reversed. The team that Wood/Zepeda plays on is actually the San Antonio Champs- they lost 2nd half playoff but won League Playoff FallvsSpring Final.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Wild Waco 75-1??? 75,000 to 1 is more like it. These guys' record is 22-23, and 3 of their wins were defaults. The last time Waco got a wild card was in '07, when they went 1-19 at sectionals. This year's team finished third behind the wild card team in '07. In other words, they're not quite as salty as the '07 team.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Wild Waco is salty. They sanbagged their matches in the local league so they could come in under everyone's radar. Looks like they were successful.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I have been lucky this season being able to play with strong teamates. My goal was to make it to sectionals which we have so anything else is a bonus. Good luck everyone this weekend I hope I play well:)

    ReplyDelete
  35. So the fake Eddie shows his face. Y you will be just fine. If you get in trouble during a point, just push your cleavage together.

    ReplyDelete
  36. (Y)? Stong partners? You played with Bennett and Hill??? What are you talking about? You must be really good to carry those loads!

    ReplyDelete
  37. The winner of the first match at 7:00am Friday between Wild Dallas and Wild SA will decide the winner of Texas 4.0 Sectionals this year. It will be over early one way or the other.

Cary, you do have the SA teams reversed in your analysis. Wild SA is very good. So is wild Dallas. These are your 2 best teams. Book it!

    ReplyDelete
  38. Yeah.. and HP is unbeatable... Unbeatable minus those 2 losses this season.

Lifetime has proven to be the best team and that DCC win gives them an easy draw and chance to rest top players on first day. they will be the freshest team on Sunday and head to nationals.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Lifetime has such an inferiority complex its ridiculous. They are the Texas Aggies of the 4.0 league.

Go ahead and rest players eddie. Sounds like a great strategy.

    gig 'em LTF

    ReplyDelete
  40. "(Y)? Stong partners? You played with Bennett and Hill??? What are you talking about? You must be really good to carry those loads!"

Actually I have played with Myers and Hill a few times this year. As far as 4.0's go I think they are strong since they both got bumped up to 4.5 and both have one at least one major zone. Maybe this does not qualify as strong in your book, but it does in mine.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Myers and Hill are not strong sectional-level 4.0 players. They are above average compared to 15 or so of the 20 teams but not in the starting lineup of the other 5 or so teams.

The good news for Lifetime is they have 8-10 guys who are all slightly above average so it gives them a great chance to win 3 lines.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Thanks anon 9:36 AM!!
I couldn't agree more about LTF.

"Texas A&M University claimed another USTA Texas SECTION Tennis On Campus title Sunday defeating their arch rival Texas, 26-24 in another amazing final between the two schools, held on the campus of Texas A&M University."

    http://tinyurl.com/nhekq9

    ReplyDelete
  43. "Slightly above average for sectional teams"?????

Check the records of Myers and Hill on Sunday at about 12pm and see how "slightly above average" they are while they are holding that Sectional Championship banner.

    ReplyDelete
  44. anon 11:01....that is funny! Nice.

    ReplyDelete
  45. ok then question.....who would be the best 12 man 4.0 team you would assemble in all of Dallas players including LTF and HP players.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Fenn from HP and Murray from SA start for their teams. Myers and Hill beat those guys in the past month.

    ReplyDelete
  47. to anon "August 4, 2009 9:36 AM" Pretty damn funny!

    11:01 - not a bad comeback.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Okay tough guys, everything will be decided STARTING Friday soon enough. For you bored guys, why don't you get on the Houston website, and start razzing those guys since they are the ones predicted to win that side of the bracket. A little doubt in their head wouldn't be a bad strategy.

    ReplyDelete
  49. SAP will NOT win their bracket and the Hurricanes are less than 50 per cent to win theirs. Lifetime is the only odds on favorite of all the brackets.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Neither Fenn nor Murray are in their teams starting lineups. Above average at sectionals is not a slap. Most singles players at sectionals would easily win most major zones. Don't get major zone champs confused with sectional-level singles players.

    ReplyDelete
  51. You can talk all you want the stats don't lie. Murray is in their starting line-up and played Line #1 singles in their only playoff match. Played line 1 or 2 in 6 matches this spring and 9 in the fall.

Fenn is HP's 2nd best singles guy.

We will see how average Hill and Myers are? Post your name big mouth, so we can call you out on Sunday.

    ReplyDelete
  52. People say Lifetime has a inferiority complex. What a joke. HP has an excuse complex! Just get it done on the court. If you don't get it done.. shake hands and shut up!! HP had their chance to get the better draw and win the DCC. They didn't, they lost!! Then the unsilent minority on their team start with the excuses. I can already hear it now when they done make semi's or lose to Lifetime in the semi's..."We had to play a tougher draw.. We would have won sectionals if we were in Lifetimes draw." blah.. blah.. blah

No excuses PLEASE!!! Take your ass woopin and shut up!! THANKS.

    ReplyDelete
  53. such anger. Me thinks your inferiority complex is showing just a bit. don't worry. be happy.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Spoken like slightly above average players who have never played at sectionals.

Lets see who Wild Dallas and Wild San Antonio put out on the court against each other at 7:00 am on Friday. I GUARANTEE you Fenn and Murray won't be in that lineup (but they would both be in Lifetime's best lineup).

I realize sectionals is new to you and you are naive enough to think you can research teams and players using tennislink. Enjoy your two easy wins on Friday because the real contenders will be playing in pool 1 with real matches against real teams.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Murray lost to Lifetimes 4th option at singles (Studey). How would he get in the line-up. Check you facts.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Fenn is a good player. Can't crack top 3 at singles for Lifetime.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Nobody is questioning the strength of your singles lines. LT will definately struggle to win at doubles.

    ReplyDelete
  58. I agree about Fenn. But who's better than Murray on that San Antone team that will play ahead of him?

    ReplyDelete
  59. Morrison and Kennedy are a very good doubles team for Lifetime. No an automatic win at Sectionals, but should do very well. The other two doubles lines will be good, but not great, but could also pick up another win.

Lifetimes best chance is to try and sweep the singles and hope for a good matchup for Morrison/Kennedy.

    ReplyDelete
  60. (Y), Just because Hill and Meyers won a major zone at singles dosent mean they are good doubles players and that's what I was referring to...

Besides like the anon said winning a major zone and winning at sectionals are not the same, major zones you might have to beat only 1 or 2 at the most good players to win it.

Fenn would definitly be in the top 3 of ltf singles, behind Mudsum and Meyers and ahead of Studey and Hill!

We will see come Sunday afternoon, and you will have to say that this anon knew what he was talking about. See you then...

    ReplyDelete
  61. For Wild San Antonio Abney and Smith/Smith are close to ringer lines and Keener and Collier/Purser are very solid. They also have a couple surprises if they can get them to make the trip to Dallas.

They will be hard to beat.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Fenn has a national championship.

How many times have any of the Lifetime players even been to sectionals?

    ReplyDelete
  63. "(Y), Just because Hill and Meyers won a major zone at singles dosent mean they are good doubles players and that's what I was referring to..."

    That makes sense.

    ReplyDelete
  64. "How many times have any of the Lifetime players even been to sectionals?"

The exact same number that had never been to Cities. 3

    ReplyDelete
  65. thank God!! The banter seems to be over and these guys can let there games talk for them Friday and Saturday. Nice.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Once LT loses both matches on Friday, the blog will go silent.

    ReplyDelete
  67. "This team was dangerously close to not making out of the QT with a tough win over OC"

What drugs are you on Cary. Lifetime beat OC 5-0. Singles did not drop a set???

    ReplyDelete
  68. The closest Lifetime has come to losing all year was against TBarM at DCC. Won 3-2. Hill/Myers (Bad Doubles players by this sites standards???) Won the deciding match 6-4 7-6. Other than that, their matches have not really been close.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Bob S
For God's sake please do not put Doug Smith in the line-up this weekend. Give your team a chance to win!

    ReplyDelete
  70. Do you think God really cares if Doug is in the lineup?

    ReplyDelete
  71. you guys talk smack, but i know any of you would love to have doug on your team compared to the scrubs you have

    ReplyDelete
  72. 24 hrs away now. TIME TO PUT UP OR SHUT UP!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  73. This weekend is going to be a cakewalk for us at lifetime! Book it!

    The real Eddie

    ReplyDelete
  74. Eddie,

Do you think you will win all over your matches 5-0 and 4-1 in sectionals?

    ReplyDelete
  75. LTF

Your bracket may be a cakewalk, but you will be done Sunday morning. Your team has performed very well in Dallas, but a lot of the better teams will have at least two players as good as your player that was DQ'd. Your team will not sweep the singles against any team on Sunday.

    ReplyDelete
  76. Only having to play the first two days will make it easy on LT. They won't have to worry about the pressure of playing on Sunday. Book it!

    ReplyDelete
  77. anyone that knows me knows I don't use the phrase.. "Book it"

Again someone is posting under my name. I talk enough trash. I don't need any help. thanks.

    The real "Real Eddie"

  78. The Fake Book iT!August 6, 2009 at 1:38 PM

Be yourself, everyone else is already taken.

    ReplyDelete
  79. "Do you think you will win all over your matches 5-0 and 4-1 in sectionals?"

No. But if you can and should win 5-0, then go out and do it. Get that done 3 times and you don't need to play the 4th match. Rest. At the end of the day we will be smart with our guys, but the #1 priority is to win 3-2 or 5-0 don't matter.

    Eddie (the real Eddie)

  80. Eddie,

Your order is ready for pick up: 15 pink pull over shirts, 15 black speedo shorts, 16 pairs of black/pink striped socks, 1 pink pull over shirt with a dayglo green "C" on left chest, 1 black speedo shorts with dayglo green lightning bolt on the seat.

    Total Due........... $734.86.

    Thanks,

    Wang Ho

    ReplyDelete
  81. The Hurricanes will dominate. The only matches they lose are the ones they choose to lose.

    ReplyDelete
  82. Eddie's girls don't wear pink.. they wear Fuscia. IWth their black speedos and their fuscia tops, their team name is the Good -n- Plentys.

    ReplyDelete
  83. Eddie is a real piece of work but I hope his team does well.

    ReplyDelete
  84. HP won first match. They took all 3 dubs line and singles still going on.

    ReplyDelete
  85. Dallas Wild beats Wild SA in first match. Look out. Those guys are good and hungry and playing for real this time.

    ReplyDelete
  86. With the exception of Austin, Dallas Wild has the better flight.

    ReplyDelete
  87. Oops, I meat Fort Wrth and not Austin, I guess the 3.5 talk is still sticking with me.

    ReplyDelete
  88. Whatever. HP lost both lines of singles vs Austin and was tested at line 1 doubs. They better be ready for FW. They will be lucky to get 1 line of doubs vs FW.

    ReplyDelete
  89. Sorry I mean against SA.

    ReplyDelete
  90. HP swept doubles against Fort Worth. Did you mean FW woul dbe lucky to get one line against Wild Dallas?

Oh yeah, HP swept FW singles too.

    ReplyDelete
  91. Fort Worth? More like Fort Worthless.

    ReplyDelete
  92. Wild Dallas > Fort Worth

    ReplyDelete
  93. Ha. So much for FW. What a weird lineup they showed. Always a good sign when your best player isn't available.

    ReplyDelete
  94. Dallas 5-0 over the mighty Ft. Worth. Look out. Ft. Worth is a good team. What does that say about Dallas Wild? It says shut your pie hole. These guys are serious.

    ReplyDelete
  95. Ft Worth thinks they are real good every year. At the 4.0 level Ft Worth would probably not finish in the top 5 in Dallas. The competition is much stronger across the board.

    ReplyDelete
  96. both dallas teams played very well on day 1. Day 2 will be interesting

    ReplyDelete
  97. Semis Look to be

    Wild Dallas / Dallas
    Wild Houston / Waco

    ReplyDelete
  98. not soo fast my friend. still too much tennis to go.

    ReplyDelete
  99. If anyone knows the scores of all of the teams for the first day, would you be kind enough to post them. Thanks.

    ReplyDelete
  100. hey fool. ever hear of tennislink. look 'em up yourself.

    ReplyDelete
  101. LTF is hands down the best team at 4.0 Sectionals this year.

    ReplyDelete
  102. I went to tennis link and searched but was unable to find the sectional results. But I do want to thank the person that was was rude for the advice.

    ReplyDelete
  103. Question - why do they have the Main team and their Wild counterparts meeting in the semis? Is it just me or should they be on opposite sides of draw.

    ReplyDelete
  104. Click on Championship - Advanced Search. Add 2009, Texas then you see all the sectionals divisions. Click on one of the m4.0 and you'll be all set.

    ReplyDelete
  105. Agree, it is a real screw up on the part of the Trexas Section to have two teams from the same city meet in the semi-finals. Just dumb!

    ReplyDelete
  106. Lifetime lost to Austin...what a joke...LOL @ best team at sectionals

    ReplyDelete
  107. LT swept in singles. Where was Johan? Another captain's error for a Dallas team at Sectionals. You can not rest your best players at Sectionals. The time for your best players to rest is on Monday. LT still has their destiny in their own hands against Lubbock.

You can not put your 4 and 5 singles players on the court at Sectionals and hope to get a win.

    Come on Eddie!

    Good Luck!

    ReplyDelete
  108. They have to beat Lubbock 5-0 to advance, 4-1 they lose the other tiebreaks!

    ReplyDelete
  109. Looking at the TB for LT it looks to me that they could win 4-1 and advance if they win all four matches and only have one of those matches go three sets. That would have LT advance 13 sets lost to 14 sets lost.

  110. I hope LTF beats Lubbock 4-1 or 5-0 and makes the semi's. But, dam, Eddie is dumber than I thought. His line-up this morning was one of the biggest blunders any captain has ever made. Why is it that LTF teams seem to have great players and stupid captains??? (just look at Bill Kaiser at 3.5 for example.)

    ReplyDelete
  111. I'm sure Eddie feels horrible and will never make that mistake again. Hopefully he can make it back to sectionals at 4.5.

    ReplyDelete
  112. Lubbock wins 4-1 over Lifetime..

    ReplyDelete
  113. Go gettem Bob don't let us down keep on winning...

    ReplyDelete
  114. Lifetime will rule the fall league. ha ha ha

    ReplyDelete
  115. LTF counted chickens......now they hatched. I'm sure the blog will go very quiet now. If you talk so much trash you better back it up. 2 losses in your 'easy' bracket. Oh my.

Wild Dallas still playing. Good luck to them on Sunday!!! Somehow surviving the 'killer' bracket. At Sectionals all brackets are killers. Huh Eddie.

    ReplyDelete
  116. All the bragging and all the swagger. But LTF can't back it up on the courts.

Eddie has a huge ego and he is a dumb ass. No question about that.

The rest of the guys had a very inflated opinion of themselves. When they beat Somabut's team they were celebrating like they won Nats. When really Bob had many of his top players on the sidelines. Then the LTF players all posted on this blog to tell us just how great they were.

    ASSHOLES!!!

    ReplyDelete
  117. Lubbock is looking really solid...they really took it to LTF

    ReplyDelete
  118. SNOOP DOUGEY DOUG IN THE MUTHAF*CKING HOUSE!!! 2-0 at SECTIONALS!!!

    ReplyDelete
  119. Where's the 4.5 Sectionals thread? Branch makes it to Sunday.

    ReplyDelete
  120. LTF started celebrating and bragging a little too soon!

    ReplyDelete
  121. The Lubbock guys were a bit classless too. I heard the guy that beat Eddie talk about having to throw him some games because he was afraid of a strike.

    ReplyDelete
  122. With no 4.5 thread, I will put it here. I guess Gene Davis was a pretty good 4.0 last year. Since he appears to be just as good at 4.5 this year. At #1 singles, he has dropped 9 games in 3 matches at sectionals. I read some doubters earlier in the year.

    ReplyDelete
  123. With how everything played out, yo have to wonder if Somabut schooled Eddie and picked the preferable flight. Did he dump his match to get the better flight? I can't believe that Lifetime is really 5-0 better than High Point and it looks more and more like Somabut taught Eddie a captaining lesson.

    ReplyDelete
  124. previous poster....

No. Somabut had the much harder bracket. Somebut just has the much better team than LTF. LTF did have an easy bracket save for Lubbock who continues to amaze.

As for schooling. I don't think so. He is a better captain. But he also has better players. The DCC final meant nothing except to a bunch of LTF'ers than thought they had won Wimbledon.

    ReplyDelete
  125. Lifetime dominates Wild Waco in 5-0 victory. Strikes fear in the hearts of the other teams. Awesome job guys!

    ReplyDelete
  126. Man, there are a lotta' haters in here. I feel like any captain who gets his team to Sectionals through a tough league season in a city as big as Dallas should be commended.

    ReplyDelete
  127. "Bob shouldn't put Doug Smith in"
" Jimmy Fenn wouldnt be top 3 at LFT"

    blah blah blah.

I hope HP keeps going, but either way.

    FINAL FOUR

    ReplyDelete
  128. Lubbock could beat HP. I saw them. They are really solid. Better watch out Bob and team. Don't count chickens like LTF.

    ReplyDelete
  129. Bob gives everyone respect and never underestimates his opponents. Been doing this too long. Good job Wild Dallas.

    ReplyDelete
  130. Bin Nguyen is in THE HOUSE for Highpoint. Bin, great play today. Nice playing with you. You are playing great and an great asset to Highpoint.

    ReplyDelete
  131. To requote myself to someone that I text already, If our best can't beat their best, then we don't deserve it. It was a nice ride, and I was very happy w our team and our chances. Losing 4 1 was better than losing a heartbreaker. We just got beat, no 2nd guessing. It was a shocker, but not a 2nd guesser. We got beat. Lubbock was a good team. A great team.

I would not mind playing another match next week or in 2 weeks against HP. Our best against their best. Not for money, but for a keg. Loser buys, we all drink together.

I really enjoyed myself. It absolutely sux right now, but I really enjoyed myself. What a great sport we have where we can still go out there and be competitive and have fun every week. Thank you for the opportunity to met some great people all season and have some great tennis. Thank you for the great competition.

    ReplyDelete
  132. get over it man. its done.

    ReplyDelete
  133. What time does LTF play tomorrow?

    ReplyDelete
  134. they are having a team practice exhibition open to the public tommorrow at 7am. Its the greatest show on hardcourt in the southwest. Even though they didnt prove it in sectionals, they are the best team in texas. SEE YOU IN VEGAS!! i mean Preston and legacy.

    ReplyDelete
  135. haha..The Greatest show on hardcourt on Preston and Legacy.

    ReplyDelete
  136. dang i want to see this open practice! how much does it cost? Lifetime is awesome!!

    ReplyDelete
  137. Has anyone ever experienced the Eddie silence for so long?

Seriously, his guys are a good group and Eddie's schtick canbe a bot amusing but when you are as confident and bragadocious as him, the haters are going to come out.

    ReplyDelete
  138. You the man Snoop. Good times today. Still alot of work to do. Beano

    ReplyDelete
  139. Eddie your order for the pink shirts with a STATE CHAMPS logo is in. Please pick them up soon.
    Thanks,

  140. Well. what can I say. If you dish it out you better be able to take it. Tough day for Lifetime. I put out line-ups that didn't get it done today. For a variety of reasons, but the end of the day we did not get it done. Vs Austin this morning I was convinced we could sweep Doubs and split singles with that line-up. We lost 3rd set TB at line 1 and 6-4 7-6 on line 2. Lost 6-4 6-4 Line 3 doubs. My miscalculation. we rested 2 of our top 5 guys so they would be ready for Lubbock and 2 matches Sunday. Sunday never came as we lost 4-1 to a very strong Lubbock team. Hats off to them. We controlled our destiny needing a 4-1 win and lost 4-1. Hard pill to swallow. I have 2 regrets right now. Not playing Johan this morning and not playing better this afternoon. Take all the shots you want at me, but our guys did a great Job and had great season. We did not accomplish the ultimate goal, but made great strides. We will be back at both 4.0 and 4.5 levels. We have a lot of work to do, but will get it done.

Great Job HP. Be at your best vs Lubbock. They are very good.

    Eddie

    ReplyDelete
  141. Congrats on a good season Eddie.
Look forward to your contributions to 4.5

  145. congrats Bob. congrats to the rest of the HP team as well. Win this thing at 10am!!!

    Eddie

    ReplyDelete
  146. Bob could have beat Lubbock 5-0, after sweeping doubles, he pulled singles off. GO SOMA.

    ReplyDelete
  147. As usual for overrated Lifetime teams they choked just like the 3.5 team did. I think someone needs to teach playing under pressure to all their teams. Great talent but fold when it really counts!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  148. poster 8:22am quit trying to make it sound better. Fenn lost the first set and was down in the second. You won, period.

Congrats to 4.5 Houston, sweeping doubles twice on Sunday is very impressive.

    ReplyDelete
  153. Good job Bob and all the players on HP. Winning the Texas Sectional is a monster deed. Also, congrats to LTF for taking down the City championship.

    ReplyDelete
  154. Way to go HP Somabut. You guys were awesome all weekend. Played with heart. Enjoy Vegas baby.

Oh, and I would hope the question about best team in Dallas has been well answered by now. By a mile.

    ReplyDelete
  155. I want to give a shout out to all my boys at High Point!! Much props to Bob for captaining. Helluva job.

Mr. Jarad Kemp and Craig Weymer steam rolling 6-0 this week.
Dencil and Tim closing the deal this morning.

Thanks for dealing with me this weekend Keith and Doug.

    It was our time.

  156. Jarad, Craig, Dencil, Tim, Keith, Bin, Vinny and Chris. You guys played with heart and there was no retreat, no defeat in your words. Destiny is yet to define us. We trained our mind and our body followed. Great weekend. An honor to call you teammates! Great job Bob!!!!

First time Vegas for this Dougie Fresh! Thanks for taking me there guys.

  157. HP might be the sectional champs, but there still needs to be a scrimmage against life time for who is the best in collin county.

    lifetime will own

    ReplyDelete
  158. seriously? lol......

    everyone knows lifetime is it.

  164. congrats to HP and Bob. This must taste extra sweet after all the crap he took after the loss last year. Enjoy Vegas!

    ReplyDelete
  165. Nice win HP. The whole team looked good out there. Weymer & Kemp were especially impressive. I have never seen a team move that quick before. Both you guys covered a lot of net, quickly. That was awesome. btw, pretty obvious, but that's not a lifetimer trying to take anything away from the HP win, just a hater trying to fuel the fire. That was a great win today HP and quite an accomplishment. Well deserved.

    ReplyDelete
  166. i wonder if the recruiting of the HP team has started since the team has to be scattered. All of the HP players are so solid even down to the last person. Gonna be interesting in the fall when all these guys have to compete against each other.

    ReplyDelete
  167. Congrats to team Bob on another trip to nationals. The draw looks pretty tough with Southern & Mo Valley, but PNW should be no problem. Jimmy will be looking to add another trophy so he will have bookends :-).

    ReplyDelete
  168. Oops. Make that PNW, New England, Southwest & Carribean. Should be two punching bags, and two challenges. Best of luck in Vegas.

    ReplyDelete
  169. Congrats to Bob!!!!! Great job to all Highpoint players! It was a great weekend, enjoyed watching all the talent from all over the State! Go get the hardware and bring it back Texas!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  170. Hey Snoop, the question is, whom will you be taking to Vegas with ya, the new wifey or icepick?

    ReplyDelete
  171. Sisk, do you remember Carribean last year? Seems like they were underrated cheaters, coaching each other in Spanish, etc. Bob has to play Carribean at nationals.

    ReplyDelete
  172. Snoop is taking the wife, the parents and Icepick wouldn't miss it, he'll be there.

    ReplyDelete
  173. Dallas should be Southern as they lost their best player to a Dynamic DQ. They also may be without one half of their best doubles team as one will be at College in Philly Area and possibly unavailable. They have a younger guy for singles, but he also may not be available. Good team but not world beaters. If I can hang with them beat some of their guys that says something since I am the AR Hacker.

    ReplyDelete
  174. Congrats to Wild Dallas from Lubbock. You guys were just too tough. We came in with 8 great guys knowing it would be a fight just to get to Sunday. Heck, we were lucky to get out of our local league. I don't think anyone would say that our bracket was easy by any means, especially with no subs. It would have been nice to have fresh arms and legs out there this morning. Regardless, Bob's guys were solid all the way around and took it to us. Have safe travels and good luck to you all in Vegas.

And to whoever called Lubbock classless...ah, nevermind. Hope to see everyone next year.

    B.R.

    ReplyDelete
  175. Apologies from Dallas for whoever may have said that. 8 guys! Ah to be young again.

    ReplyDelete
  176. How come Snoop Doug always has to post in all caps? Way to call out your two wins at sectionals!

    ReplyDelete
  177. Eddie, How do you prefer your crow served? Hot, cold, or maybe with some salsa?

I hope you and your ltf team can now let it rest regarding who is Dallas's best team. HP beat the same Lubbock lineup that stomped your team 4-1, and it wasnt even close!

    HP Rules!

    ReplyDelete
  178. Good Job Brady, you are a class act all the way.

    ReplyDelete
  179. 8:08 is a guy from Bob's team. Probably sat it out and wants to feel important. What an ass.

    ReplyDelete
  180. I know 8:08, 8:15, 8:57, 8:59 and 9:13 is the same H.P. guy. Look it up. BIG, VERY BIG ASS!!! I wish LTF would have won. They would have if it were not for a hook call at a crutial moment. Ask any LTF guy on the bench. I saw it and LTF had more class than to argue it out. Great job LTF, you will get them next year.

    ReplyDelete
  181. Brady is a collage bud of mine from way back when, I just spoke with him, and he doesn't know any anything about a blog. You are a DICK man.

    ReplyDelete
  182. I just want to say thank you to Bob and the team. Couldn't ask for a better captain or team!!! Thanks for giving me a chance to go back to nationals guys!!

    --Fenn

    ReplyDelete
  183. Actually, I played against Brady, and he mentioned it to me, un-prevoked and to my surprise, that they read the blog, and he even asked me specific questions about it. So, I would say he probably reads the blog if he brought it up to me.

    ReplyDelete
  184. And nice spelling of college

    ReplyDelete
  185. I don't call out my wins you cocksucker. Why don't you put your name down you pussy. I'm grateful I got in with all the talent and I was carried in both matches so go climb on your sister and have a nice day. I sign my name and always have.

    Doug Smith

    ReplyDelete
  186. Unfortunately, I would be upset if there was a hook call, but there was no hook call. In addition, I was standing in the alley when Landon gave us a call where the ball was either out, or maybe, maybe the fuzz touched the side of the line during a cross court rally and he still hit it back and we ended up winning that point. Cheaters is not a word that I would use describing Lubbock.

Finally, it was 4-1, but thanks for the cheers from whomever that was, but we just got beat.

    Again, Congrats to HP

    ReplyDelete
  187. Hey Doug,
Dont let some jerk bother you. I watched both your matches and your played awesome tennis! Great job!!!

    ReplyDelete
  188. No bother, thanks for the support. He probably got a hard on when I took my shirt off and his wife was with him. Typical anon poster or imposter. I'm done reading the blog. On hold booking my room. Wonder if anon played two matches this weekend.

    Doug

    ReplyDelete
  189. Brady didn't have any College buds there. I don't understand why people say that kind of bullcrap.

I wanted to offer up my congratulations to HP too from Lubbock. You guys were to tough and deep this weekend. Great job. Bring home the title for Texas.

Also, we really enjoyed the bickering on the blog here. It's freaking hilarious. Seems as though Eddie takes a lot of heat. He must talk a bunch of crap. I was pretty disappointed in some of his line calls against us....one in particular....yeah you know which one Eddie :). ahhh.....it all competition. It was fun..

    Good luck HP!!

    -Tyler Chadwick

    ReplyDelete
  190. You said he didnt have any college buddies there, but did you actually verify he did not have any collage buddies there?

I mean, according to the blog, he must have had a friend from the 1st grade there when they did collages in art class. You need to be more specific Tyler. ha ha!

    ReplyDelete
  191. And yes, Eddie crap talk keeps it all interesting.

    ReplyDelete
  192. I wish I had a dollar for every person who said that they were done reading this blog. You and I both know that you cant look away, its just way to entertaining! A word of advice, dont take everything so seriously!

This is Charlie Rivera, the one who kick your ass at the Waco Open. If you can't play tennis with out crying to mom, PLEASE GET OUT OF THE LEAGUE!!! A lot of the current 4.5 players out there have paid their dues more than you think. If you can't win a match just don't be a bad looser. I bet there is a lot of 4.5 players out there that could play open if it wasn't because of injury's, I am one of them. I told my partner, Dave Luedtke, I bet he drop out because he saw he was playing me again, I was right. Let's not make this a bad place to see what's happening, this is great for a lot of reasons. Just go out there and try your hardest. Have a good rest of 2009.
