Mixed DCC

So in 9.0 the favorite team from Greenhill beat the Village to take the sectional spot. Two close matches and one blowout by Pham/Gonzalez at line 2.

In 8.0 High Point/Lazarine in convincing fashion swept all three of their matches. They didn't even a drop a set. I would think this team will be a favorite at sectionals.

In 7.0 a pretty big upset occured as High Point was beaten by Greenhill. It came down to a 3rd set tiebreaker and Greenhill won, the other two matches were somewhat lopsided. A very curious result, after looking at again I still don't get what happened. But congrats to Greenhill on your victory.

Mixed Doubles sectionals is in Corpus Christi, October 3-5.

  1. Yea congrats to Greenhill.

I really was shocked at the result as I figured Dima would win easily at line 3. by stacking the lines, HP looked poised to get the victory and then i see Dima playing the oldest team in the event over the weekend and he loses. Experience does count and they proved it.

Lakes should have beaten greenhill but the wife and i failed to pull out the coman. Full 3rd set would have been different but i'm sure Dima would say the same thing. We could have helped out HP if that had happened on the first day. It would have changed our strategy over the course of the rest of the weekend but we wouldn't have been able to recover on sets and games.

  4. Yes, experience does count, they did exactly what annoyed us most and. Lob, lob, slice, lob *throws racquet*. We adjusted and started playing better in the 2nd set and won that easily. At that point I would have given anything for a 3rd set, but instead it was down to the glorious tiebreak and we came out on the wrong end.

Needless to say I feel extremely terrible/embarrassed that we didn't adjust in time and lost. I would have much rather gotten beaten badly or even chocked and lost than having played reasonably well and lost on a coin flip.

Congrats to everyone on our team for an extremely great season and especially to Sharon/Kirby going undefeated in all matches.

  5. WOW! HP 8.0 mix cruised right through without losing a set. I thought Springpark was the better team and notice that the OVERHYPED ringer, Mcgowan, got beat by Nguyen pretty convincingly 6-2, 6-3. I know it's mix dubs and all but Mcgowan was suppose to be unstoppable at 4.0.

Either Nguyen is really good or Mcgowan is horrible. My pick is Mcgowan is horrible. I've seen Nguyen play and he didn't impress me at all.

  6. I think Mitch would willingly admit that he is a singles player.

  8. to the person that commented on nguyen and mcgowan...what matters is that nguyen got the "W" and fairly easy i might add...and who are you to say nguyen wasn't impressive? i bet he and his partner(whoever) will probably beat you and your partner if you reveal who you are. or just be on the side lines making silly comments and watch nguyen go to sectionals.

  9. hopefully this time he won't cramp up and cost his team a chance at nationals. nguyen is overrated.

  10. Stay away from this blog Phy. You are too good for this stuff. It's too late for me but you can still be saved.

  11. Jean, Hia, and Phy are all OVERRATED!!! They need to play at the 3.5 level.

  12. wow some of the anonymous posters are pathetic.

Congrats Phy on the 8.0 MXD and good luck at Sectionals.
Also Jean is a darn good player who was talented in juniors but never got to high. Stupid PESH and PSHS players ;)

  13. A 10 point Coman tiebreak that ends 10 to 5 is an awfully l o n g coin flip, expecially to those of us that run in a geriatric circle). We thank you for the opportunity to wiggle our toes in the ocean and work on our tans down in Corpus.

  14. wow did Dima just get called out by an old chick. That is awesome. In his defense I don't think he meant it quite like that. Many feel they are coin clips I actually like them for the most part (maybe because I am winning them lately) but they force you to really value points early on, as opposed to sometimes 3rd sets played out just reward the younger and fitter. I will probably change my tune if I lose a few more pounds and get in the gym once a week.

But Go Greenhill, that was quite a win.

  15. comans are tough and in theory should reward the strong minded and able. I agree with Dima that they can be a coin flip in comparison to playing a 3rd set even if the actual coman isnt close. My opponent was tiring visibly in the 2nd set so if i had more games and points then likely could have taken advantage especially since we won the 2nd set fairly easily. Points are gold in comans. In the case of mixed doubles the disparity of consistency of partners can be huge so only a few points may not allow ability to cover up for a less than consistent partner. My wife played well for her standard but she was the weakest player on the court and in a full set I can often more than cover and help us.

Notwithstanding my argument, love the Lob Queen's callout.

  21. No problem, maybe next week Rockettman. There is definitely beer to be had when Kirby comes to practice and he never finishes his wings at Hooters after practice on Thursdays.

Let me know a good day over the next couple of weeks and maybe we could have a "extra" practice to fit you in. Our first match is a scrimmage, oh wait we are playing Garland/Sisk team 2 (same thing I guess)
