Fall Initial Roster deadline is today

So just as the sectional tourneys have ended we here in Dallas start up our Fall league which does link into our Spring season with a free trip to next years all important DCC.

I will be honest I have looked around a little at other rosters but mainly I have been focusing on filling my own teams up and keeping my players from the various vulture captains (yep you know who you are, we will bring our broom to sweep you very soon). Actually I take it as a compliment and I hope other team captains do as well because I just made a few phone calls.

I did see one interesting move. Stephen Terrell moved to HP/Somabut. I wondered why he didn't play at sectionals and maybe that sheds a little light on the matter. I wish he knew he was looking because Stephen is a solid player and nice guy I am sure Jim will miss him or maybe not.

I guess Sisk will have to farm out some of those guys on his 3.5 roster since they must split up and only carry 4 existing 2008 players on the 2009 roster. I am sure someone could use them.

I look forward to the upcoming season but I fear after looking at the number of teams that we will be flighted into four groups again and have 7 matches. I really hope we go into 3 flights I think it will make for a much better league but either way it should be good.

  1. There are still some people waiting on appeals before they can sign up for a team. A couple of teams will be much stronger once all the appeals are done.

  2. Lifetime has the best team. HP/Bazan might be in the top 5. Garland should be good as well. Watch out for Eagles landing. As much as I hate to say it. HP should be pretty good as well.

    ReplyDelete
  3. Umm - how is Bazan going from bottom feeder to top 5?

    ReplyDelete
  4. Look out for Brookhave/bartlett. Mark Jenkins is back down from 4.5

    ReplyDelete
  5. Bazan has a 2 singles guys that bumped back to 4.0. If you thought Noaman was good wait till you see Steve Kent

    ReplyDelete
  6. Another interesting move involving hp/somabut has to be the k-mart move. Not only did he leave hp/somabut but bailed on his 4.5 team captaincy (sp?). What up with that?

    ReplyDelete
  7. Brookhaven/Harlee might be a force in 4.5 this year after adding Ramos and Lasalle.

    ReplyDelete
  8. What's the last day to add and when does the season start?

    ReplyDelete
  9. Vik

we can add players from now until two weeks before the season ends.

Vik if we can get you down to 4.0 I can register you today.

  10. Vik,

I just left a message on your home line. If you're still looking for a team, I'm your man.

  13. The best? I saw the 3.5 Lifetime team at sectionals, but I didn't see the 4.0 team. Am I missing something?

    ReplyDelete
  14. Vik,
No way. Come to the HP/Bazan team. The team recently had a vote and we have revoked all captain decisions from Cary, and made him captain in name only. He's kind of like, Isaiah Thomas and the NY Knicks. He is a member of our organizations but has no authority or input in any more decision making.

    Signed,
    HP/Bazan 4.0 Team

  15. Keith,
Lifetime 4.0 Mens team is kind of like USA Basketball. Yes, we haven't won anything "yet", but it is a foregone conclusion that we will ROLL thru the Fall Regular Season and will be a force come next Spring's tournament.

    Believe it!

    ReplyDelete
  16. Forget 4.0. I heard 3.5 was the new 4.5.

Northwood is a little farther than I wanted but so far nothing close has turned up.

  17. Out of curiosity, are the Dallas/Ft Worth teams able to add players after the season has started? Just curious, Houston is allowed to add players as long as they are able to get two matches in by season end, and one of them can be a default. If this is the case with Dallas, or any of the other cities, I think it should be uniform throughout the Section, not on a city by city basis.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Yes - same rules apply in Dallas. You could technically add a player for the very last week of the season - but that player would not qualify for playoffs as you need 2 appearances to meet that criteria.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Eddie,
I think your team should be pretty good in the fall. Your team has a very good chance to finish at least third.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I'm gonna blow my f-ing brains out if I have to hear Eddie talk shit all fall about his team. How was sectionals Eddie? Tough loss in the finals of sectionals. You should be at Nationals!!

    ReplyDelete
  21. Eddie has the right attitude. Everyone should think they are gonna win.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Any commnets on the Dallas Combo this weekend?

    ReplyDelete
  23. Eddie will win the combo.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Keith,

LOL. quick wit. I liked it.

COMBO - I wish we had known there weren't going to be that many teams playing. We have wayyy to many team members.

Finally, how do you get on the list of knowing which Leagues are coming out when?

    ReplyDelete
  25. Pretty interesting that the DTA still keeps their process for flighting teams a big secret. No communication or information forthcoming to players.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Where do you go to see who was granted an appeal.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Where is all the Lakes talk? I guess they discovered how average they were at city playoffs.
I bet Cary picks them to win again in the fall. He thinks anyone who can beat him is awesome.

    ReplyDelete
  28. The Village has a new 3.5 team and only 2 players are not self rated. They could be either really good and get the wrath of the anonymous.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Eddie:

Who is playing singles for you in the fall while you are out that makes you think you will win it all? It appears you have a bunch of former 3.5 players on your roster.

    ReplyDelete
  30. this isn't eddie, but I see names like FORREST, WINES, MUDSAM, I think a lot of 3.5s move up and do quite well at 4.0

    ReplyDelete
  31. The Lakes will win it all!!!

No actually Eddie Hill's team has already sent Jane their photo before Eddie got hurt because he didn't want his sling in the DCC fall champ photo. I say we just give it to them, they are soooooooooooo amazing.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Cary. Glad to see you have finally seen the light. Lifetime does have the best team. I think we will be ok in singles with Forrest, Wines, Mudsam, and a suprise or 2. I hope to be back by mid Nov. Doc says late Dec. We'll see. We are stronger now than last year.

As for sectionals last season. Just came up a hair short. With only 2 3-2 losses to HP and SP, I think we did ok. Maybe our captain will make better choices in his second season. Eddie

    ReplyDelete
  33. Eddie just remember you weren't the only team to play Springpark close, LBH Spagnola took them to 3 third set TBs and won a singles line easily. Stonebriar narrowly missed beating them. Bazan had already thrown in the towel on his season and lost to them 2-3. The Lakes in the playoffs also lost a close one to them. So I am not sure losing close means much. And as much as I hate to admit it losing you and also losing Nishakai (sp?) are key losses.

    ReplyDelete
  34. There is a difference between a maeningless league match against a lesser team and a DCC match against there best line up. Anyway I will be back when it matters most. we have replaced Takashi with an equal talent and added more as well.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Eddie I don't think their 1st two matches of the season were meaningless with only 2 teams getting into the playoffs from each flight. Our match was meaningless for us but not for them. I actually hadn't thrown in the towel completly at that point but it was in my hand hanging over the rope.

My preseason favs would be Pearlman's team and LBH/Spagnola who lost nobody to bump ups and BH added Jenkins who I believe has a win over Forrest in tourney play.

Replaced Tikashi, really? Probably not a horrible loss he will be a 4.5 in December no matter what.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I love it Carey. I assume you are making those predictions to get me fired up and increase the blog ratings. I hope those two teams and yours are in the same flight with us. Last time I checked LB did not get out of QT and Brookhaven did not make the playoffs from an inferior flight. Ok. We will see.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Lifetime will go undefeated this fall and secure their spot in the DCC. Count on it.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Not sure they won't have a slip up somewhere, but Lifetime will win the fall and get the coveted trip to DCC.

    ReplyDelete
  39. League matches are meaningless when you are trying to hide Gene and Mitch. They did not hide them at DCC and Sectionals.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Eddie:

Come on man. Replacing Tikashi is not that easy and you better win the Fall as you then lose Forrest. But I will commend you on two fronts: You never put down other players, just pump up your own team (even if the bravado gets old) and your players work hard. I know the LTF players well and many of them are former 3.5 players who work hard at their games to improve. Not a single self rated player on your roster. Your singles will have to carry you though as you relied on BMO and Marcus quite a bit and while good, they will not get you to the DCC, especially without Tikashi. You are another singles player and two doubles players away from really contending for sectionals. I also think you overachieved this past year. Just trying to keep it honest.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Cary, how bout a write-up on Combo?

    ReplyDelete
  42. uhhh. No. I will if I get around to it, maybe late Thursday possibly but predicting an event like that is not that interesting to me since the draws are pretty lackluster.

i actually like the combo tourney but the timing is just bad. There is so much going on right now with sectionals and local tourneys as well as getting fall teams together I wish combo could be done another time.

    ReplyDelete
  43. they should have hid Mitch under the bench at sectionals.

I believe they did play in some of those close wins during the regular season.

Springpark will still be good as well as Somabut's crew. They did lose a lot but these guys are the ones to watch. Hill and Bazan have a little ways to go to catch up. Although if those are battling it out in the finals, oh I can't believe i just said that. I am getting nautious at the thought of the lovefest those two would have congratulating themselves. Oh the horror.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Not easy to replace Takashi.. You are right. But I think we have done it and I am fired up about it. Wish we could have kept him, but he has known Bill far longer than he has known me. I must admit I hate the word overachieved. I you did it that means you were capable of doing it. I think most people underachieve. By the time Fall playoffs start our team will be much better than the team we had in the spring. And with that comes the Fall championship and trip to the DCC. When that day comes, Please don't hate... Congratulate!!!

    ReplyDelete
  45. Amazing. Cary plays one local tourney and now that rates higher on his priority list than the combo. Maybe it's because he is not playing in the combo. The least you could do is start a separate thread for those that do want to discuss it.

    ReplyDelete
  46. maybe he is too busy congratulating his 2-5 team from the spring that is now going to win the fall.

    ReplyDelete
  47. I heard Mitch got moved down to 3.5.

    ReplyDelete
  48. FALL 4.0 RANKINGS (since Cary is too busy)

    1. Lifetime/Hill. Have top talent back and added some new blood to a team that just missed sectionals. Have performed well in pressure matches. Addition of Hill late puts them over the top.

    2. Brookhaven/Pearlman. Strong team from Spring got even stronger with Jenkins back down from 4.5.

    3. LB Houston/Hicks. Rantana and Walker still 4.0 somehow and solid players all around. Could move up quickly.

    4. Garland/Sisk. Should be surprise team of fall if Sisk has another ringer up his sleeve. I am guessing he does.

    5. Highpoint/Somabut. Still have strong doulbles teams and added solid singles players. Should have a chip on their shoulder as well.

    ReplyDelete
  49. With those predictions I can see why you posted anonymous. HP/Somabut will win it again.

    ReplyDelete
  50. How can we put out rankings based on last year and the minmum rosters. That is as stupid as preseason college football polls, luckily we actually play out the matches and don't vote for league champion. At least the USTA got that right.

When I see full rosters on 8/29 then it is worth talking about but until then it is just huge speculation.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Cary is obviously upset his 2-5 team didn't get ranked. Maybe they will make honorable mention.

    ReplyDelete
  52. yep I am pissed Eddie didn't but me in his top 5. I am so pissed I am going to go to some local colleges to get the rest of our roster.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Hey, Hey , Hey. I sign all my postings...Most of the time Eddie

    ReplyDelete
  54. There is so much negativity on this blog. Let's try something positive.

Now that people are signing up for the fall season, why don't you pose this question?

If you could create a "Dream Team", and combine maybe 15 of the best players from across the city, who would you choose? You could ask this question for each division, 3.5, 4.0, and 4.5. Take into consideration you need singles and doubles players. I guess it would be three separate "Dream Teams".

Maybe it's a dumb question. It might be fun to hear some people's responses, though.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Can Eddie play both singles and doubles on my dream team?

    ReplyDelete
  56. I sure can and I am willing to captain your team as well. Eddie

    ReplyDelete
  57. My 4.5 team.

    Rusty Branch
    Jim Young
    Doug Fair
    Wesley James
    Donnie Pollard
    Blake Mason
    Peter Jones
    Walt Williams
    Chris Slezak
    Kevin Durten
    Todd Feldman
    Erik Uhlig
    Phy Pham
    Dante Edwards
    Malcolm Renwick

There you go. I left off the people who got bumped to 5.0 even though I don't know if any of them appealed. Hopefully I've increased the positivity.

    ReplyDelete
  58. 4.0 Dream Team -

    Captain - Eddie V. Hill

    1. Singles - Eddie V. Hill
    2. Singles - Eddie V. Hill

    1. Dubs - Eddie V. Hill/Eddie V. Hill
    2. Dubs - Eddie V. Hill/Eddie V. Hill
    3. Dubs - Eddie V. Hill/Eddie V. Hill

    Alts - Eddie V. Hill

  59. I would have thrown Gene Davis in at #2 singles, but the rest of that line up is pretty solid.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Keith... That is funny.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Now that's what I call stacking the line-up. Eddie

    ReplyDelete
  62. Question to all: Why is the Dallas league costing $15 more than the Fort Worth league? What is Jane doing with that money besides not earning it?

    Again, just a question?

    ReplyDelete
  63. Wow! Edward Leija signed with HP/Pham . 4.5 will be fun to watch this year! I have to wonder if Edward's posse(Kern,Cherry,Trance) from FTW will be joining him on Phams team? Phams team is looking pretty stout, but do they really have a chance against Branch and RO? I doubt it.

4.5 League will be fun to watch this season. Quite a few new teams out there.

    ReplyDelete
  64. I watch some guys from our team last night and I can say that I knew Sean Brinkman was a good player having played him a couple of times. After seeing him last night.. he is even better than advertised and a very strong doubles player. GO Lifetime. I think I owe BMo a beer for the recruitment job. Eddie

    ReplyDelete
  65. Just wondering who is Edward Leija and his group of guys? Didn't they get beat by Branch's Team at Sectionals? And why doesn't Noel list himself on his list of players? Is he up to the level. Never seen him at League Sectionals which makes me wonder how valid his points are concerning league tennis. Fall League in Dallas is always competitive but Branch will still come out on Top.

  66. 4.0 Flights are out. 4 Flights with 8 teams. Looks like 7 matches again. BS.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Ltf/Hill and Brookhaven/Pearlman in Same flight. 2 best teams in 4.0 in same flight.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Cary. You get Dirty Garland/Sisk in your flight. Ha ha

    ReplyDelete
  69. The arrogant sons of guns at the DTA should at least tell us what PROCESS they use to esatblish flights. They could post that on their website or eamil to captains. I'm sure a lot of guys would like to know.

    ReplyDelete
  70. RATING of 4.0 Flights.

    1. FLIGHT C. Lifetime/Hill and Brookhaven/Pearlman are #1 and #2 teams in 4.0. Eagles Landing is not far behind.

    2. FLIGHT B. HP/Somabut and Garland/Sisk are both top 5 teams. Canyon Creek/Heflin could be strong as well.

    3. FIGHT A. Garland/Sisk could be a sleeper team and HP/Bazan is strong on singles side. Springpark has strong veteran talent.

    4. FlIGHT D. Not one top 10 team in this Flight. Some solid teams but winner will have no chance in Playoffs.

    ReplyDelete
  71. I would love to look these over further but I actually have to work today. At first glance I actually think top to bottom Flight D is the toughest. They may not have a DCC winner but Bartlett is solid, Eldorado combined their two teams and will be stronger, Greenhill, Lakes, Stonebridge (missed playoffs for first time last season in like 7 years) and then TBar. There are not any easy matches in this flight. Our second team is in this flight so they will get a good match each week, I might need to get some ringers so they can hang in there and knock out someone.

You realize Sisk has two teams, only team one is a contender, team 2 had to move up because of their nats qualification. Helterbrann is the other solid team in our flight along with the Village (added Rhodes) and Springpark of course. JCC will not be overlooked as they improved last season. Watch out for Fretz as well.

Eagle's Landing will be good Tikashi might come back and haunt Mr. Eddie.

LBH and Somabut look solid in the other flight.

Still a month or so to fill up rosters so a little too early to make hard predictions.

I am glad to be one of the flights that gets 8 matches so I guess we will have a couple of bye weeks, for Arbor Day maybe?? Halloween?

    ReplyDelete
  72. You have this thing about flight D. You said it was toughest in Spring and Flight A was the worst. Look how that prediction turned out for you as Flight A had 3 of top 6 teams. Same is true for all as Flight C is easily the top because best 2 teams are there with a 3rd not far behind. You are right about Garland only flight B team is good. In D TBar, Greenhill, and Lakes are all average teams due to bump ups. Not same teams at all anymore.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Thanks for the confidence but don't assume that since somebody is not on my top 15 list that they are not good. I could only choose from players I've seen or known. Leija is really good based on what I heard from his doubles partner J.D. Miles at the Brookhaven tournament. Actually I might have put him on my list but I didn't know he was playing in Dallas. I would say Pham's team is definitely the most interesting team thus far in the offseason.

    ReplyDelete
  74. I'm still waiting on 4.5 flights. I'm assuming we will have 3 flights with 22 teams. That will be 6 real matches for 14 teams which sucks.

    ReplyDelete
  75. Why would they not have 2 11 team flights. It is so stupid to me. Players want more matches. I sent and email to Jane, but nothing will happen. they could care less what we want. It is no more work for them. Eddie

    ReplyDelete
  76. I hate playing 7 matches in 4.0. They could have had 3 flights with 12 in one and 11 in the other 2. 10 and 11 matches respectively.

    ReplyDelete
  77. 2nd try

Question to all: Why is the Dallas league costing $15 more than the Fort Worth league? What is Jane doing with that money besides not earning it?

    Again, just a question?

    Anything?

    ReplyDelete
  78. See the 1:31 poster and then you have your answer.

    ReplyDelete
  79. If you want quality play you have to pay for it.

    ReplyDelete
  80. Fees are higher in Dallas because the DTA maintains a very expensive office _ which is really not needed. None of the other Tennis Assoc in Texas have such a costly office.

    ReplyDelete
  81. Dear 8:33pm,

You could have signed your name on that post. Please save the anons post for hating.

    ReplyDelete
  82. So we're paying that much so Jane and them can waste it - and for what?! We get very few updates on events and happenings, very little communication, A Website that hasn't been updated since Gore invented it, and a stinkin pair of socks!

    STEP UP DTA!

I asked around to 5 other leagues and we seem to have the highest fees in the state by an difference of $11-$17 - Not to mention the fact that some of our teams have to pay court fees as well.....and we have some of the farthest distances to travel between matches because a poor job of flighting seems to be done as well.

    Ahhh, that felt good!

    ReplyDelete
  83. Someone is getting a brain lock on the DTA.
