Ratings Countdown

I know a lot of people (especially a few captains) think about rating release like a kid does Christmas.  Well, there is an official countdown clock on Tennis Link.  Tomorrow night at 11:00 is the rating release.

I have been needing to make a new post but this fall format and people just playing with nothing to gain makes it uninteresting.  Let me know what you guys think of the fall.

Regardless, it was time for a new post and with Tri-Level and 40s coming up, it is time to re-engage the blog.

  1. Kelly looking at a 4.0 in just over a day.

    1. Rest assured Kelley will NEVER EVER be a 4.0. They have already been caught red handed manipulating his rating and they will continue to do so knowing nothing can be done about it. The most hated person in the USTA and a pain in their ars will stay a 4.5 forever, he could lose 500 matches (already a record of 6-122 since 2010 in men's leagues...... If his name was Ben Dover he would be a 3.0 by now).

    2. Bwahahaa...all that time tanking has gotten him nowhere. What a waste of time and effort and am glad they have kept him from getting to 4.0. Best Xmas gift ever! go DTA!

    3. Agreed. Voldemort will never see 4.0. The powers that be would never allow it. If you consider his winning percentage is just over 4 percent and the fact he has multiple losses to 4.0 bump ups someone is overriding his true rating no doubt. I can safely say you will never see him below a 4.5, and frankly he is lucky he is not 5.0.

    4. Kelly could play chained to the back fence with just enough slack to get to the service line and still win most matches if he were moved down. I will shave my head and reveal who Murray Langston is if he gets moved to 4.0.

  2. I'm surprised at how few people care about this league. I thought the fall was bad before but worse now.

  3. Why would people have nothing to play for? Do the fall playoff winners not get a pass to the spring playoffs like before?

    1. Exactly. The Fall has been great tennis for the first time in a long time...sorry it doesn't work out for the 20% of the folks that saw the Fall as nothing more than a way to tank.

    2. Do you still get a pass to QT? I don't know.

  4. only 1 hr 6 minutes to go until ratings are out. This countdown is stupid

  5. Interesting how so many 4.0 hopefuls are still 4.5.

  6. Any chance at a Tri-Level thread?

  7. One day before the deadline and the Cotton Bowl entries are surprisingly sparse. Is it because the tournament starts on a Tuesday this year? Or did they set the deadline too early and people haven't realized it yet? Or is Dallas tennis dying...

    ReplyDelete
  8. Dying.... especially when peeps are moved up for no apparent reason. If ratings were where they should be there would be more people playing and more income for DTA/USTA. In the end it is costing those entities a fortune by flexing their muscles and “diggin in their heels” by not moving people down where they belong.

    1. Agreed. They will never admit it but that is exactly what’s happening. Controversy makes them money, bragging rights makes them money. Keeping people at or above where they should rate costs them $$$

  9. 4.5 does seem a bit inflated, evidenced by a larger 4.5 men's singles draw than 4.0. Two years in a row. That probably shouldn't happen if ratings followed a bell curve. On the other hand, a lot of Dallas 4.5 tournament players seem to be stalwarts who sign up for the bigger tourneys with good regularity, while the 4.0s have less consistent participation, so that may explain it. And I do know of a couple 4.5 to 4.0 bump downs.

  10. Quite a few 4.5’s went to 5.0 that had no business moving up so 4.5 league should be fairly easy for some teams that normally can’t ever advance out of Texas to have a shot

    1. Would be nice if, when new ratings came out, USTA would release how many players got bumped up or bumped down from each rating level. For transparency sake. Also would give a reference point to players who are trying to climb the ladder. For example, how many players were bumped up from 4.5 to 5.0 in Dallas this year? Not player names, just how many.

Does USTA ever release that info?

      Delete
    2. Also would be nice if they would release how many players they manipulated the ratings of. Not player news, just how many.

      Delete
    3. It would also be nice if they explained how they do this, exactly. If they manipulate a rating and make someone who should be a 4.0 a 4.5, what happens to all of the players that then beat him 1 & 0? Does it go into the a system as a win over a 4.0 or a 4.5?

      Delete
    4. there is an advanced search you can use, tedious but you can see how many in say the Sprung 18 4.5 league are now 5.0. Simple search and Find Function shows 25 guys to 5.0 that played 4.5 league last spring.

      Delete
    5. It would go into the system as an “outlier” Match. The USTA will look into any suspicious patterns like keeping matches close or winning and losing in 3 sets frequently. If there is a pattern of say for example having been to nationals 14 times but unable to beat a 3.5 bump up then yes it would be considered an “outlier Match” and not counted.

    6. Check out this site: http://computerratings.blogspot.mx/2017/12/2017-usta-league-year-end-rating_4.html

It's not official, but it gives you an idea.

    7. Thank you for the link! Definitely helps.

    8. Hmm... the outlier matches are thrown out. When they see mixed domination and trilevel and combo success but men’s league not so much those don’t count. Yes thanks for the link!

  11. Who wins Trilevel? Seems quite a few peeps playing FW tri instead of Dallas Tri. Guess they are afraid of Queensley team. With Kelley injured and out it will be tough w just 3 4.5’s for Sisk. Also look out for Alzuro’s team. They are due to finally win Tri. Big John already has a nashunal trophy. Let someone else win.

    1. Alzuro is way overdue to win anything.

    2. Well Sisk has some solid 4.0’s so he prob is the favorite there. 3.5’s a toss up and who knows at 4.5 cuz Jean and Kelly hampered w injuries. Besides you never know if Kelly is trying bec he has racked up two national trilevel titles already. Looks like Kingsley may be the second best and then ALzero third.

    3. good point as Sisk does have some solid 4.0's. Best 4.0 however is Rajiv. But collectively Dallas has some solid 4.0's this year. Rajiv, Hai, Raja, Tony, Osiel, Teterud and Alan A are the top tier player. 4.0 overall pretty weak bec most of the ringer 4.0's got bumped up but still Dallas can compete at sectionals it seems at 40's.

    4. Sisk 3.5s are unbeatable! Rajiv and anyone is unbeatable! Kelly and anyone wins in Dallas! Another Tri-Level Natty for Sisk!

    5. Rajiv and Raja are set to dominate Fort Worth not Dallas.

    6. I don’t think Sisk and Kelly are set to win yet another trilevel title. I think they are satisfied w two titles as no other Texas team even has one. Yes, they will try for sure but everything from here is gravy and a bonus. Two trilevel titles in 4 years for Kelley is obscene. I think this is the year for Raja’s team out of Houston to get it done. Yes he is playing Cowtown but the team he built to win out of Houston. Will be interesting.

      Delete
    7. Raja’s team has Freeman’s name on it?

      Delete
    8. Yes, just like Clark’s team has Scott Russels name on it. Just like ALANS mixed team has Kwongs name on it. Shall I go on?

      Delete
  12. Yes if you sign up to play for Al Zero you prob can’t find anywhere else to play.

    1. True. Alzuro sweeps up the people nobody else wants. I do think however he puts together some solid 6.0 teams bec he gets a free pass to sectionals because nobody plays 6.0.

  13. Tell me that to my face at trilevel! Just for that I am going to put myself in the lineup and show you who is boss!

  19. Raja and Mills beat Teterud and Fenter in the deciding match . Basically to win the whole event. Arcaria gets destroyed.
