Nobody beats Dallas 4.5s seventeen times in a row!

Dig that groovy hair.  Looks like the father of the mullet, but with curls.  I still have that racquet but I had to get rid of the short shorts.

Last year 4.5 over 40s was won by Austin while our Dallas boys won 4.0.  The over 40 events haven’t been around too long so let’s review the recent history.  At 4.5, the event has been won by Dallas (first year of the event and no nationals so I don't count it), then Fort Worth, San Antonio, Austin and Austin.  At 4.0, it was Dallas, then San Antonio, then Dallas, then San Antonio, then Dallas.  Clearly I’m picking San Antonio to win 4.0 sectionals this year just based on the history.

I’ve been swamped and haven’t had any time to research the state, but I’m tired of getting burned by the Dallas 4.5s so I’m not picking them to win sectionals at this event in its Nationals form until they actually do it once.  SpringPark is our Dallas rep this year and they do have a nice squad but you know the old saying, fool me once - something or other.  Then again there is my favorite tennis quote of all time, “Nobody beats Vetas Gerulaitis seventeen times in a row!”  Since its only been four times in a row, still not picking Dallas.

A quick review of the Dallas 4.0 squad does not inspire me to pick them either.  It’s almost impossible to reload after having won the prior year.  While this is a nearly new squad and it looks like they’ve moved to Huffhines from Fretz, it is a shell of last year’s team and I don’t see them getting it done at sectionals either.

Sorry to not be more enthusiastic about Dallas’ chance at 40s this weekend but I just don’t see it.  Hope they both prove me wrong.

  1. Why do our 4.5s always underperform? Is it a captaining problem?

  2. Only if a captain is playing himself when he is not in the top 8.

  3. To many egos. To many people claim to be on the best team and so everyone is streched to thin. No one had made a super team in years.

  4. NOHO looks like team to beat at 4.5

    ReplyDelete
  5. NOHO should be favored in 4.0. They won 18s sectionals and have a lot of those guys on their 40s team. Dallas has several guys off of Raja's team but not their playoff guys.

    1. I thought Austin won 18s?

    2. Austin fell short to NOHO. However, Austin will win 40+, the talent Austin harbors in their older players is unmatched. Book it now, they will go to nationals. They have players from both 18+ sectionals teams that made it to semis and finals, respectively.

  8. Clark has Kanchi helping co-captain this weekend. So expect the 4.0s to do well.

  9. How can Fretz/Florence have nine 3.5s and only four 4.0s in a 4.0 league. Did they get rid of the rule saying you had to have at least half your players at the correct level?

  10. Looks like Oak Creek got the first DQ of the 2017 season already. Congratulations!

    1. First match DQ. When you beat Teterud like a rented mule, you're going to get a grievance. Takes a 5.5 or 6.0 to beat Teterud.

    2. Should be auto-DQ to 5.0

    5. Teterud tank in playoff. No way 5.5 pat lose to 4.0.

  11. Waaaat??? Beating Teterud is a strike? Did they change the strike threshold to 3.0?

  12. Teterud was much younger in this photo.

  14. Dallas beats ft worth at 4.5 40's. Looks like Rossouw is still a loser. Haha way to go SpringPark. Looks like they can do more than just mixed.

    ReplyDelete
  15. That makes Russo ZERO and 51. Incredible he has lost that many chances at nationals. Just goes to show he lacks quality 4.5's. The decent players like Hyunh and Jelley won't play for him. He will never win without top level players

    ReplyDelete
  16. He has some solid players who have advanced with Dallas teams. Maybe it's time to start looking at the captain and not the players. That's the 1 common denominator.

    ReplyDelete
  17. He normally plays himself and that's mistake number one.

  18. Dallas 4.5 wins this morning. In Finsls.

  19. Austin wins 4.5. Dallas loses one singles line 6-0,6-0. Why some of the top 4.5's guys don't play for Dallas is sad. There should be a rule if you play mixed you have to play 4.5 or you can't play mixed

    ReplyDelete

    1. That was a 4.5 against a very strong 5.0, and not relevant to your point. Texas section should do away with the nonsense of allowing Austin to put a 5.0 guy at line 2 singles, but not Dallas. Especially now that they've won 2 years in a row. Just stupid.

      Delete
    2. Did Line 2 singles matter?

      Delete
    3. smart move by Dallas to give away #1 singles, nobody is beating Dekruyff at 40+ league. They should have had a stronger #3D team Maybe Barrie/Anderson teaming with Pollard.

      Delete
    4. It's impossible to know how things play out if Dallas doesn't have to worry about Austin playing 5.0 at 4.5 lines. Maybe they move Moore into doubles and play Barrie at singles. Maybe not. The point is that different cities playing by different sets of rules is just plain stupid.

  20. Like Dallas allowing 28 players on a roster

    ReplyDelete
  21. Lol.... 28 players on a roster is absolutely stupid. Just means another year of being a bridesmaid.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Teterud an average 4.0 but at 3.5 would be a stud. If he gets to 3.5 he will be my main star.

    Clark

  23. Dallas 4.5s have no chance because they can't get Kelly. But the 4.0s will be great next year when he joins them!

    1. Can you imagine Kelleye at 4.0?? He already dominates playing with a 3.5. What the hell would happen with him playing with a 4.0?? INSANE! Rumor is Alan and Kellye getting back together for a 40 and over team at 7.0 if Jelly gets moved down... Ha

      Delete
    2. Everyone calm Down. He will NEVER EVER get to 4.0. The DTA will override and manipulate his rating again to keep him at 4.5 or above. What you really should be concerned about is him playing 8.0 mixed as a senior at 55's. You think people are mad now, get back in this blog in 3 years and 3 months and let me know how that's working out. He will have won 4-5 trilevel titles and be approaching 20 national appearances by then. THAT IS SICK!

    3. Ha Ha .. Kelly sandbagging TCD like he does USTA. Look at him down on line 2 leaving Mitch to get worked over on line 1.

      Delete
    4. He lost previous week, ego couldn't handle 2 losses in a row.

      Delete
    5. He was not sandbagging. Kelly had already beaten the guy that worked Mitch over. Kelley beat him last year so he prob wanted to play the 5.0 teaching pro Bell

  24. Mixed sectionals is right around the corner. You know who again.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Kelly on another team headed to sectionals???? I thought he was playing in Fort Worth and going to nationals again? When is enough enough????? There needs to be a rule in place where after a certain number of sectionals or nationals you automatically have to sit out a year. This is getting ridiculous.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Hey I am on Kelly's mixed team headed to nationals and although I am 500 wins and 14 nationals behind him I am the best player on the team.

    2. I think he said if they have Kelley, Alan, Tetrude, Raja, Sam, victor and Hai at 4.0 they would be able to default a line and still win. Problem is THERE IS NO WAY IN HELL KELLEY WILL BE PLAYING 4.0 EVER, never, EVER . The guy has been to nationals at EVERY LEVEL. It ain't happening people. Stop with the what ifs

  28. I know people on the inside at certain organizations and there are actually meetings on keeping this guy at bay. The problem is he has them by the short hairs. He may be the only human on the planet that TCD SCORES were used against him in his bogus suspension. I saw both TCD MATCHES he played. They were pathetic and he even tried losing again but he is so solid in mixed his tanking is still enough to win

    ReplyDelete
  29. I will admit though blowing out Craig Bell in mixed is impressive. DAMN

  30. Kelley has you people on a yo-yo and has for 10 years. No one ever knows what he is thinking or when he is trying and no one ever will. He is a slick cat so quit wasting time commenting on him bec 99 percent of what is said is a damn guess. He is one step ahead of most everyone. Only Alan knows him well and he does what Alan says bec he likes Alan. Can we have a NEW BLOG POST PLEASE!!!!!!!!

  31. How about a blog on "should Pete Rose be in the Hall of a Fame"?

    ReplyDelete
  32. Vykydalova is a very solid lady player and would have easily dispatched MK, just like the one he played last season. Cowardice is easy to spot, but go ahead and make some more excuses - the stuff about TCD results being used to alter USTA ratings is particularly amusing.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Pete rose only belongs if he DIDNT bet on his own team. And yes, she is solid but Kelley would have dispatched them playing w even a lesser lady. Do not doubt the prowess of the mighty Valdemort! Many people have and gotten beat! Do not doubt Rajalicious either!

    ReplyDelete
  34. I know for a fact Kelley was told to tap the brakes on his TCD wins. Seems the local 8.0 captains had been using that for ammunition. I saw the email last year. If he was smart he should stay out of TCD all together.

  35. When you have achieved what he has at the recreational level I think it's amusing that the haters all come out of the woodwork. Instead of practicing they just complain. I firmly believe Dallas tennis players are more jealous and hate than any other city. Raja, Tony, Sisk, Clark and Alan are also high achieves and hated. When you are hated you are doing something right. See the New England Patriots as example
