This is the End... Of the Regular Season... At Least Almost

The regular season is over some and should be over either this weekend or the next... weather permitting.  It is nice for the DTA to give us Father's Day off.  You newbies may not remember when the DTA scheduling geniuses scheduled us on Father's Day (let us not forget Memorial Day Weekend too).

As it stands today, we are pretty much finished at most levels but not all.

5.0 We have a 3 way tie but no match on Father's Day so it gets decided on 6/26.  First, we have the ever present teams of T-Bar Bartzen and Perkison (fka/Village but now Prestonwood).  They are joined by Greenhill Vahdat.  Bartzen gets Brookhaven Harlee and should have no problem winning this match.  I do notice Bartzen has a 6.0 player on his roster.  This is a 5.0+ league but I am pretty sure that doesn't fly.  Perkison has Lakes/Jannasch and The Lakes are 5-2 with everyone else 6-1 so this is the toughest match coming in.  Perkison has the H2H over Bartzen but a 2 line deficit will be too much to make up.  Vahdat has GH/Saqueton and should win.  The Lakes have 2 losses but they have the lines to bump somoeone if they win.

Prediction of finish:
Bartzen
Perkison
Vahdat

All teams need to actually win so they need to bring a strong lineup  I would like to see the Lakes v Perkison as that match has a lot of meaning in this flight.

4.5 is nearly complete.  The season is over but there is a match to be finished and mathematically it matters but in reality it will not.  JCC/Reiman has a match against a bottom dweller to finish.  As long as he puts ut a good lineup it should be fine.

Flight A GH/Rossouw is the winner but Rossouw may suffer from a lack of depth with only 27 quality players on his roster.  Sam Grand/Hanna finished second.  This is an overachieving team as they have a whopping 7 4.0 players on a total roster of 15.

Flight B JCC/Reiman has an outstanding match against 2-5 Stonebridge.  SN only has 6 4.0s on their roster and clearly were missing that last one to be as strong as Hanna.  It is merely a formality and Michael wins.  In pending 2nd place is ever present BH/Harllee.

Flight C Newcomer SP/Aguilar wins this flight.  They finish 7-1 but they have a 5 line lead and the last lost came in the last week.  There was no consequence.  2nd place goes to Oak Creek/Pribadi.  There were several teams with better line counts but they finish 7-1 and taake the Flight C Silver.

In the end, I think it comes down to Greenhill and Springpark.  I still am not sure what to think of the Springpark team so I will go with Rossouw to go to his umpteenth trip to sectionals.

4.0 is nearing completion.  There is still some drama and races too close to call.

Flight A has HP/Somabut and McKinney Kanchi all knotted up with equal lines.  HP has the H2H win.  If HP sweeps they win.  they play OC and a sweep is not out of the question but Somabut needs to play his best lineup.  McKinney has Greenhill and they should sweep. I get the feeling McKinney sweeps and HP drops a line giving this to McKinney.  We find out on 6/26.

Flight B has Huffhines/Ratcliffe at 8-0 but knotted up on lines with 7-1 Brookhaven/Bartlett.  Huffhines has 3-5 McKinney remaining.  If they win this, they finish in first so Huffhines needs to bring their top lineup.  BH has 6-2 Lakes remaining.  BH has the tougher match but both need to win to have any chance.

Flight C has Huffhines/Jayaram sitting at 7-0 with 2 matches remaining.  Greenhill/Ohl is 7-1 with a layup remaining.  I really can't tell you who wins but my gut goes to Greenhill/Ohl.

Flight D has Garland/Sisk with the flight wrapped up with a win of Greenhill/Alzuro.  2nd place is up for grabs.  McKinney/Bazan has a final match with third place JCC/Schachter.  McKinney needs to win to take second.

Several of these third place teams advance to QT but one never knows if the DTA will shorten or reduce teams because of a sprinkle.

That is everything for this week.  With no matches being played this week, it may be a couple of weeks before I write anything.  Unless something of interest or of note arises, have a great Father's Day and see you in a few weeks.

  1. With Wins both Huffhines Teams are in. Garland is already in. High Point edges McKinney if tied. QT should have Brookhaven, Greenhill, McKinney, Oak Creek edges Bazan but Bazan takes 3rd. The last 3rd place spot is up for grabs.

  2. The last 3rd place spot is either Hackberry/Myers or Eldorado/Browning and will come down to the wire. Lakes can get in the mix but will have to upset Brookhaven to do so.

  3. Jamelle Roberts has qualified on Ft. Worth team and on Kanchi's team. I wonder which one he will pick at sectionals.

    2. Kyle Davidson - is not a 4.5. Doesn't he play college at D1 school?

      I would say the following:

      Singles:
      Jorge Aguilar
      Shawn Foster
      Featherstone
      Lueng

      Doubles:
      Mark Chavez/Sam Huynh
      Dru Cambron/Clint Sumrow
Tuttle/Derrick Pearson OR virtually any one
      Todd Bailin/Ricky Ramos
      Malcolm/Lafavre
      Open for last line....

    3. Kyle has a 4.5 rating so he can play it.

    4. Another example of joke ratings.

      Delete
    5. Davidson rating is a f'ing joke he is nationally ranked in D2, why TTA has done nothing says a lot, of course if he had any cajones he would play 5.0+ and not waste time score managing at 4.5

    6. Heard he's working his way down to 4.0 now. And planning to join the Tiny Lu super 4.0 team next year.

    7. Pretty sure he is going to play 5.0. He has a injury and is just coming back. He isn't playing 4.5...he IS playing mixed 8.0 but won't be trying. Andre needs to start recruiting him. Might need to buy him a car ;)

  5. Best 4.5 in the country, but doesn't play. Kyle Davidson. He's made the quarters and semi's at the cotton bowl the last 2 years. He awesome.

    3. He very very good. But he also wants to play in 5.0. Andre Vahdat better start recruiting him for next year.

Alan plays him 8.0 mixed....seems a good time......

    4. Of course it Alan people. No one know him and basically won nothing or played much in Dallas leagues. Very solid but even he lost a mixed match on the mighty 8.0 mixed team in the finals. He on Voldemort team this season along w Gene, Hyunh, Chavez, Le, etc. how in the hell were these guys recruited to play together. No one likes Voldemort enuff to play on team??!!!!

      Delete
    5. Ummm. Maybe because Voldemort wins?? Alan A has molded Kelley into a once in a generation mixed phenom. At 50 still winning at will. I did some research. He is 123-8 since 2003 w 13 different partners. He is 54-5 in nationals and sectionals. It is not only talent but Alan as his confidant molded him mentally strong. Alan A should be coaching on the tour. I had heard he was under the radar bec of being a small club but that facility has some great instructors. Without Alan Kelly would be an average Joe.

    6. Alan is the Ivan Lendl of coaching stars. Quiet demeanor, speaks little but when he does you listen. Watch and see as he will take Keller to higher highs

  6. Best 4.5 player in the area, Rene Alzuro. And probably the best captain too.

  7. Tony Le should be considered as a strong 4.5 for a super team.

  8. Tony 0-6 record at 4.5 does make him a top 4.5. He was 0-3 at 4.0 last fall. He really has fallen off.

  9. Just noticed the first 4.0 dq of the season. Michael Vutam on Kanchi's team, in what appears to be a questionable dq, losing twice and only winning once (barely). That means Bob can shut them out with a 5.0 win, or even a 4-1 win, since a tie will go to Bob for beating them head to head. But Vutam is out for the QT and, possibly, sectionals.

    1. I've heard that new captain is taking cheating to a new level.

      Delete
    2. Yes, and Somabut is the one that filed the grievance. I have seen Vutam play and while solid should not have been dq'd

      Delete
    3. Vutam was top 35 in the nation as a junior. He should be 5.5 not 4.5.

      Delete
    4. If Vutam is 5.5 then everyone else is under level. Vutam is a high 4.0, low 4.5

      Delete
    5. Some observations on the Vutam dq: 1. His scores didn't warrant a dynamic dq, so it must have been a self-rate violation. 2. He won the USTA National 12s Championships back in 2004, as the number one seed, and got second in doubles, losing to Jack Sock. Neither the seeding nor the wins could have happened without a national ranking. Nationally-ranked juniors under the age of 30 must self-rate at least 4.5. 3. Kanchi probably knew and/or participated in the sham. 4. If there is one sham on his team, there are probably others. All of his players should be scrutinized now. 5. Some of the people calling out Kanchi for cheating are right. A national champion rating himself 3.5??? You gotta be kidding me!!!

      Delete
    6. Lost to Jack Sock? Actually played on the same court in a nationals finals event? Kanchi must be 7:57 and 12:43.

Damage control doesn't work. How many other cheaters do you have? I found one already. Might as fess up before another goes to Todd and not by you.

      Delete
    7. Vutam rated as 3.5? He was on my high school team and didn't practice with us because he was way too good. He was training with real players and not just us super champs.

  12. Interesting match tomorrow at certain private school versus certain team. My guess is certain captain doesn't play. I know who will be there and would stay out of harms way when time for overheads and serves. Frankly I would stay in the car. Have a nice day everyone

  13. Didn't take long to google the problem with Vatum. He was ranked in the top 30 in the nation as a junior. That's an automatic 5.5 ranking at his age. Not sure how a 20 year old can forget they were a top ranked national junior just a few years ago. Maybe being seeded at Kalamazoo just wasn't that big a deal to him.

    4. wow talk about cheating, guess he should have been in a motor accident then the 4.0 would have stuck, or at least move to Houston So pathetic

    5. What are you trying to imply with that comment AR? You just keep playing league and losing at the local level. Your comments carry no substance on this blog. What's pathetic is how you've never improved after all these years.

    6. YAWN!! Would you like a kiss and rub and a tug while I am at it. MY level has been just fine going to 5.0 for 4 yrs and backdown, no complaints her on level just getting old, fat, and slow. I just detest the cheaters but hey have fun with your circle jerks and Benders

      Delete
    7. 4:49, AR is talking about Hunter Emmott, who played 4.0 on Freeman's Houston team a couple of years ago. He was about 30, and a former nationally ranked player at A&M. I think about #30. He had a motorcycle accident, barely lived, and then started playing again, losing badly , and brought his rating down to 4.5. Freeman told him to appeal to 4.0, and it worked! Hunter made a miraculous recovery at sectionals and nationals. Imagine that.

      Delete
    8. Emmott wasn't neat the junior player that Vutam was. Kanchi is a Freeman clone.

      Delete
    9. Hunter's serves and forehands were 5.0 during sectionals in 2014. I can attest to that.

      Delete
    10. And Vutam was a better junior than Hunter. Cheaters gonna Cheat!

  15. Let's see if the dta follows its own rules. Canyon creek 7.0 defaults all 3 matches on Sunday.

Let see them get out of this one.

    1. Of course they will get out of it. The 8,0 team has already played two illegal players and the 7.0 has defaulted 3 lines. Few years back the men's 4.5 wrote in fake scores and defaulted numerous lines. How they continue to even be a part of DTA tennis is a joke. You would think a family member of Canyon Crook worked for DTA... Lol. Oh.. They do. Bias, corrupt and totally slanted.

      Delete
  16. The one person I have no respect for in league is captain tiny. Sure he won 4.0 and he deserves a hand. Rather than step up and play at 4.5, he just makes a mockery of the DTA and it's leagues. Guy needs a reality check on how to improve by playing at a higher level. Step up Tiny.

    1. I must agree. you should be excited to be moved up and play at a higher level. what's the joke in tanking a few years (not playing at your level) and win nationals again. I would rather play hard and lose every match than cheat and make nationals. this takes the fun out of a very upscale sport.

    2. Problem is Tony Le knows he can't compete in 4.5. Hes a benchmark tanker at 4.0 and a cheating one at that. Won a National title and immediately came back and forgot how to play. Obviously he is a POS to league tennis.

  24. So last year Tony had a guy that self rated 3.5 and was winning Open doubles tournaments and is playing on a 5.0 team this year. If he ain't cheating he isn't trying. Definitely a POS Cheater that manipulates the system. Take your 4.0 title and show some balls you can compete at next level Tiny!! Your claim to fame is win at 4.0 then tank at 4.5???

    ReplyDelete
  25. Kanchi has taken it up a notch this year. Tony had two guys self rate 3.5 who should have been 5.0. Kanchi only had one guy (that we know of) who did it but his guy should have been rated 5.5. Todd Reed gave Kanchi and Vatum both a gift by only sending this guy to 4.5. Kanchi has other problems on his roster. Check out the other 3.5s.

    ReplyDelete
  26. This is the problem with cheating. When one captain does it, the others start doing it just to compete. Freeman, then Tiny and now some nobody named Kanchi. Maybe Kanchi is short for Kan Cheat but doesn't speak/spell English 'very good'

  28. Interesting, you look at this one closer, there is two USTA memberships under this name one without the 2nd middle name who happens to be in Arlington and I am guessing once it didn't go through, they pulled a Garland (sorry John) and altered the name ever so slightly to get the rating they wanted. I don't get this, why, someone tell me why? I have been to big events before and yes they are fun but cheating at this level is just odd to me. There are no cash prizes of any kind. I am perplexed.

They better watch out, they may be the next target.

    1. That is exactly what they (DTA) did and (I hate to say it) exactly how the seeds should be: 1-4-5 in one group and 2-3-6 in the other. The fact that the three teams in one group are probably the best 3 in the QT (which is probably the case this year) is a different story. If you don't like it, win your matches in the regular season so you don't have to play in the QT.
