And your Over the Hill Inter-Gender Champions Are!

As many know and are debating int he previous thread, the 40 and above Mixed Sectionals was last weekend.  From now on, I am renaming this bastardized version of tennis the Inter-Gender Championships.  With no further Adieu...

9.0

At the big boy level (there is no 10.0 for over 40 and it makes little difference for 99% of you anyway) for the over the hill crowd, Brookhaven-Ware represented Dallas.  They competed well but fell to flight winner NOHO 2-1.  NOHO advances to get the crap kicked out of them by Austin.  In what seems like in every 40+ event at these higher levels, it is dominated by the ageless Juan DeKruyff.  Austin wins 3-0 and who really cares since our boys (and girls) were a non-factor.
8.0

This is the level that gets all of the talk because Voldemort, Alan A and Zackary (or Zacry, Zachry, Zachary, Zackry and feel free to add about 10 more spellings if you wish) play.  Voldemort joined Zackary in Dallas-West (aka Fort Worthless or the easy road to sectionals as most people know it).  In the finals, they easily defeat NOHO 3-0.  I am attaching  a picture of Voldemort from his pre-tennis playing days.  Most had no idea that he was a pro-wrestler back in the day.

There is a rumor that with the current political climate that Alan has started self identifying as a woman tennis player so he can dominate mixed even more than he has in the past.  I am sure it has not escaped many that Voldemort played doubles with a Zackary.  Is there any truth that he is self identifying in a new way to help his mixed team?

In the usually important Dallas, Alan A had a team that fought admirably but with his usual team playing on the wuss side of the city and not yet playing with questionable gender identification, they finished 2-2.   I am certain with the return of Voldemort and this new gender identification scheme, Springpark will return to dominance.  I really have no desire to see Alan or Zackary in a skirt so I hope that is just rumor but in this new day of accepting everything, I am not sure.

7.0

Dallas looked to be in good shape by reaching the finals but ran into an all too familiar city.  They met up with mighty Houston and lost a 2-1.  There are cities we love to beat and cities that we hate to see win.  For most of us, Houston has been the bane of our existence.  I accept when Amarillo brings Logan Powell and beats us but I really hate losing to Houston.  Oh well, I will pull for Texas but I will not pull for Houston.  When they go by Texas, I will root for them again.

6.0

Intellectually, I know there is a 6.0 mixed.  I have heard about it but never actually witnessed it.  I would have forgot about it but several of you really showed some interest in the last comments.  While I suspect that was maybe one person who showed interest, Dallas wins and deserves a shout-out.  The field was extremely deep with both teams in the field narrowly winning their own cities.  Although, the deep Dallas 6.0 competition must have really prepared Alzuro (who I was told self-identifies as a 5.0) and his forces as they played Austin 3 times and emerged victorious 3 times!

Best of luck and next week we can get back to men's tennis.  I am wondering when Freeman will start a women's team in Houston and have all his male ringers identify as women.

  3. Does anyone find it odd that Allan A. Is the director at Sprungpark but is playing on a Huffines team? Seems to me that is insane.

    1. Know the rules. Allan is on a huffins team because his team qualified for nationals and had to break up. He already had 3 returning players from both his national 7.0 and 8.0 teams from last year. He couldn't play on that team or the high point team because of the rule. Played with Huffins because it has some of his Springpark members on the team.

They didn't go to nationals, but they qualified.

And the director at Huffins is playing in a High Point team. Why do you not find that odd?

And I've heard he has not had the surgery yet...yet.

    2. It's odd, period.

  4. I agree w Murray L. I find it quite satisfying that FW 8.0 team beat both Houston and NOHO. Not sure how they did but that will stick w the houstonusns for years. Ha

What kind of question is that? Zackuwey went after the best player knowing you increase ur chances of winning and signed him up. Bigger question why he signed up and not for Alan? Inquiring minds want to know. Just my opinion but Kelley should have to play 50's mixed and not 40's

    3. No they are not. Cold day in hell when they play together again

    4. Alan wanted to do a Springpark team that had no chance of getting in trouble. After the lies that the dta fell for hook, line, and sinker last year, he was afraid they would try something like they did last year. A BS suspension of the club. Professional, he wouldn't risk it.

But, I still find it funny that 2 of the players in the match that got the Springpark team suspended, now play on the high point team that is pretty much springparks team. In fact, I heard they still have the emails that prove that the other captain started the entire mess. Those would be the emails that the unbiased tennis committee said where "not important in determining the facts of what happened".

    5. Absolute lies and those in positions at DTA and country clubbers on the board also corrupted the bogus and fallacious complaint. The over zealous bump up of Kelley in 2013 did cost a dta'er their job. Guess it was worth it for the 5 weeks his rating was manipulated to 5.0.

  6. I am saying it should only be 40-49 and 50's should have their own division that way people meet their own age bracket. Say 50-59 and so on. That makes it fair for everyone.

  7. For real though, are people even able to play tennis after 50? I'd be thinking about shutting it down and enjoy riding off into the sunset.

  8. Kelly has gotten older, but he's also gotten smarter with his partner selection. He's not the same player he was 5 years ago, but he's still good for a 4.5 and when he's playing 8.0 with ladies that are closer to 4.5 than 3.5 - he's not going to lose.

    ReplyDelete
  9. I think if you reach nationals damn near every year and win two trilevels you should be suspended w bogus complaints from other teams and DTA corruption. Oh, that did happen. My bad.

    ReplyDelete
  10. I am not saying shut it down after 50 but Kelley should have to play 50's plus events so that other teams have a chance. The DTA can definitely keep doing bogus and biased suspensions but those are only temporary. I think green hill found out how hard it is to win a match at sectionals after getting swept. That's what makes what Kelley has done so damned impressive to continue racking up national appearances. It's off the charts difficult to do. Hate on him but we are witnessing a once in a lifetime phenom. Alan A has developed a monster, a Valdemort, a Beast!

  11. You don't have to look very far to see how Kelly would do playing with an appropriately leveled partner. See this years tri-level where he lost to a 60+ year old guy (Barrie).

There aren't many 4.5 guys that would lose playing with the "3.5" ladies of SP / HP, certainly Kelly isn't one of them.

    1. Saw one of Mike Kelly's matches over the weekend and he made several bad line calls, is he known for this?

    2. It's so easy to see balls from the side looking past the windscreen.

    3. True 3:07. That is same guy he beat 6-0,6-1 in combo but you are right. He would prob give up two trilevel titles and umpteen national appearance to win match he didn't need after team was up 2-0. If I was Kelley I would just quit tennis. Ha

    4. As a casual observer this guy is the most polarizing figure in Dallas. After you have had the successes he has not sure why he plays anymore. Nothing left to do. All the naysayers prob contribute to him continuing to steamroll. Not a mixed league player but looking at his winning history it is fair to say relative to grad slam appearances he is the Federer of league tennis. At some point you have to put him in the DTA hall of fame, though that ain't happening.

    5. agree w 3:42

incredible! people post a meaningless loss, say he makes bad calls and so on. bottom line guy can play tennis with skins on the wall to prove it. another national appearance coming and comes out of sectional going 5-0 and winning two matches 6-0.6-1. One of those w a partner he has never played a sectional match with. he will continue to be bashed and people will continue to say how easy mixed it and everyone can do it with the partners he plays with. If that was true they would do it. Doing what he has done is very difficult and I for one applaud him. Alan has taught him the game of mixed and it will be decades , if ever, before you see this kind of dominance. But it will only be minutes before you see bloggers ripping him a new one. Gotta love it! This is good stuff!

    6. OK now I have to speak up to 3:31 since i actually PLAYED in the match. We were up 5-2 first set long before match was decided so let's not give him credit for tanking those. The match actually got a lot closer after WE realized our team had lost. He's a great 8.0 mixed player, not unbeatable 4.5 men's player. Let's calm down a little bit.

  12. Well, I did have to look thru a windscreen, a pole, the glare from tsonata and the other side of the net but it looked out. I saw it clearly I think

    1. oh, I had my glasses on. I hate Kelley, never beaten him and I hope he never wins again. Other than that I think I clearly saw it out, or in. Or the opposite of whatever he said it was.

  13. Kelly has credited Alan for his success and done so with appreciation. When he does retire you will see him thank his partners and SP. It will be a quiet ceremony, probably at Pei Wei over a Sweet and Sour chicken. No fanfare, no pomp and circumstance. Just he and his edamame. There are many that would like to see him go now so he will create an equal playing field. Not a coincidence that the last 3 teams he has been on outside of Dallas have gone to nationals. THREE in the last year, that is unheard of. Just going to one national in your lifetime exciting. THREE in one year ridiculous. Worse yet he has skipped two, been suspended from one and passed on another. That alone is four. As his career closes to an end I am sad to see the time come. Lets all just sit back and enjoy the next few months and hope he has the desire to continue. if not, he has had an amazing run.

  19. Haven't checked the blog out in over a month and comeback to see all this mixed talk and Mike Kelly stroking his own ego? There is a reason mixed is calculated in the ratings. Get a life people.

Question: who likes to stroke their own ego and talk about themselves most?

    A) Donald Trump
    B) Mike Kelly
