Damn it feels good to be a Gangster...

Sectionals 2015 is in the books.  Dallas made the Final Four or better in 5.0, 4.5 4.0, 3.5 and 3.0.  From everything I saw, this should be a very strong year for Texas come Nationals.

Straight Outta High Point

4.0 High Point/Le is your lone Dallas Champs from this weekend as they defeated a strong Fort Worth Team that previously took the mighty Houston Team behind the woodshed.  At line 1 Singles, former Lifetime teaching pro, Victor Tran had a routine 6-3, 6-2 win.  Line 2 singles had Jorge Aguilar walking off but he was up 6-3, 5-0; I have to think if they needed that line he would get it.  Shawn Arcaria and Tim Newman win in 3 after losing a set.  6-3, 4-6, 1-0.  This was a big match.  At line 2 dubs, Tony Le and Ryan De La Paz came back from a set down and won 1-6, 6-2, 1-0.  After the first set, it appeared that this line would go south but Ryan and Tony fought hard for the win.

They probably wanted to beat Freeman, I am sure this is satisfactory.   This team came with a lot of hype and they managed to overcome some early season issues and make it through.  Rigney was his usual great sport himself so maybe this is better than beating Freeman.  While it may not come with the same prestige as beating mighty Houston, shutting up that mighty mouth and attitude has to give a great amount of satisfaction.

It is time to put our petty differences aside and get behind this team.  Lets hope they bring home a championship.  The last 4.0 Texas team to win one was Bill Sanders from Waco several years back.  That is too long.

4.5 Houston/Freeman wins 4.5 and what would a sectionals weekend be like without Freeman winning a sectionals title.  They defeated the much celebrated ad ballyhoeod SETX team.  From Dallas,  Reiman gave SETX everything they wanted in the semis and dropped a close 3-2.  They had a retire so hope Feldman and Cambron are both fine.  Just like 4.0, lets get behind this Texas team.  The last Texas team to win at 4.5 was San Antonio.  I suspect this team is really good as like most, I thought SETX had this one in the bag.

5.0 San Antonio wins and Dallas is the runnerup.  Loren Collins was his usual dominant self.  Jooste and Jiminez lost a third set breaker.  This team is tremendous so I know San Antonio is too.  I am fully behind them as well.  I hope to have a Texas sweep of all levels.

Texas 2015 Nationals Representatives
From everything I saw, Texas looks stronger than I have ever seen it.  Every level looks poised to make some noise.
3.0 Dallas/Bender
3.5 Houston/Freeman
4.0 Dallas/Le
4.5 Houston/Freeman
5.0 San Antonio/Godwin

I have looked through these rosters and made some educated guesses.  I have to say this is the strongest Texas group I have ever seen.  I know we won't win them all but there is not a single team that is "just happy to be there."

Best of luck to all of you.  I am taking a break from the blog for a few weeks but will see you again.

  2. Congrats to Dallas for winning 4.0, let's get behind them to see how well they stack up against the rest of the country.
Freeman's 4.5 win was a shocker, and didn't it coming. I also thought SETX was unbeatable.

  3. 3.0 Bender known as the biggest cheating SOB of a captain in Texas history, 3.5 and 4.5 Freeman also a known cheater. And at 4.0 Tiny Le also coming into his own in terms of cheating captains, dont know anything about the 5.0 guy from SA. But it appears to me that in order to get to nationals you have to cheat your ass off... If that's what getting to nationals means to you then cheat away boys!

    3. Rigney was pissed and vocal about it on Sunday. Heard him comment a few times saying Le should be embarrassed about his sandbagging tactics. Poor guy just doesn't understand that he was out matched, out gunned, and out smarted by the master.

Credit his team for taking all three doubles matches into 3rd set tiebreakers. But he was livid over the singles players. Thought he was guaranteed 1 singles win and neither match was close. it will be interesting to see what he does in singles next year to try and get over the hump.

    4. What does he expect when he is playing 2 computer rated 3.5s in the sectionals finals. The 3.5s did bette than expected. Under the masterful tutelage of Wayne Rigney they improved from 3.5 Computer rates to sectionals finalists. Now that is great captaining.

  6. Murray what's the rule at 5.0 for college guys who still play for schools?

San Antonio looked have at least two guys who play school tennis this fall. I thought there was a "one player" rule or something. What is it?

Really good tennis at the 5.0 level. Some of those guys look like real pros.

    1. does not matter anymore USTA and their Sections now ignore playing college now days. Locally we had guys currently playing for a D2 school playing 4.5. SETX had guys <5 yrs out of college playing 4.5. If someone is playing in line-up at a D1 school it should be 5.5, D2 5.0 if in Top 3, JUCO and below 4.5 unless an all-american.
USTA has allowed NTRP to get all screwed up over the last years due to self-rate fraud, league manipulation, and great sandbagging.

Jason is correct in that everything has become muddled. I am certainly not the expert on the self rating. Yet, I can read a chart. The best person to ask questions is Todd Reed. Be warned, there is nothing that can be done now. There will be no retroactive DQs. If a grievance is filed, you might keep them out of nationals but you won't overturn any results.

    1. You are playing dumb. Look at his results last year after he got beat at sectionals. He then told his team (in front of everybody) to just tank the rest of their matches. And tank they did. He was walking around saying all of Tony's guys are cheats. Funny, he has two cheating computer rated 3.5s on his own roster.

    2. He must have learned that from Miller. I know because that's how they did it on their team. Once we knew we weren't advancing, we'd have trouble "finding our rhythm" again the rest of the weekend. Only Miller is smart enough not to brag about it. I got tired of sandbagging so I moved on quickly. But it's no different than any other competitive team. It's what has to be done to compete outside of your area.

    6. Rigney hate must be coming from one of the Admins that plays on the FW side but can't beat his team. FW only has two decent teams anyway and The Old Gang is getting long in the tooth. So if you can't win in that area, your team must really suck. The 5 best Dallas team would roll through the FW league.

    8. Here is a primer. Dallas > Fort Worth.

If someone beats you, they are an out of level cheater. If you beat them they are a tanking cheater.

We hate Houston the most because they are usually the out of level cheaters.

That pretty much sums up Dallas league tennis.

    9. ^^^ This pretty much sums it up.

      Delete
    10. Sums up absolutely nothing.

      What you need to know:
      - Spend the Fall losing to get bumped down a level
      - Try to win every match in the Spring so you can go to Cities/Sectionals/etc and get bumped back up

      Repeat over and over.

If you don't believe, just take a look at just about anyone on Tony Le's roster and compare their Fall results to Spring results. It really is amazing.

  10. You guys crack me up. Le and Freeman are in a class all their own. Rigney is catching up but probably needs to learn to recruit some 18 yr old's college players for singles. But hell, it took Rigney a few years to get passed Miller's Old Gang team. It's pretty funny when you have to learn to be a better cheat than your League Coordinator.

I'm just glad to see Freeman go down for a change. Dude is the worst.

Now we can spend the fall watching these DFW teams tank to lower their ratings. And watch out for Tony Le recruiting at the super champs events. Hopefully he won't get mistaken for a child predator.

  15. The most amazing thing I find about 4.0 Dallas tennis is the willingness of "players" to lie and cheat in order to get to Nationals. Captains obviously are the catalyst to this behavior but the "players" who play out of level and lose on purpose to preserve their extraordinary 4.0 rating have no spine and are weak minded.

How do you all look yourself in the mirror and know you cheated and lied to be called a 4.0 National Champion. WHO CARES??? Do you really feel that good about yourself and your playing ability knowing you were not truthful to your opponents, your family, and most importantly, you, to get to this so-called Mecca of 4.0 tennis?

One can only hope that the players of this "Gentleman's" sport can, in the future, start acting as such. What's the worst thing that happens....you're not known as a 4.0 National Champion...you might be better off....

Try playing with a little respect to yourself and your game. The women in Dallas are able to make it work by playing to the best of their abilities and not lie and cheat to do so. Actually, they are happy to get bumped up because that means they are improving and will be considered a better player previous to their past rating. Oh yeah, I forgot, these women have bigger Cahoonas than you cheating 4.0 "Captains" and "Players".

    1. Appealing to these players is a waste of time. I use to think that, when things got bad enough, the USTA would step in and make some major changes...something like McAllister's ideas referenced here:

      http://dallasleaguetennis.blogspot.com/2014/06/usta-texas-section-executive-director.html

Unfortunately, at least on the men's side, the 1% he references has increased to about 5%, their impact has been magnified...and the USTA has done nothing.

    2. Who cares indeed? Sounds like you may be the only one that really cares.

    1. No. I am somewhat familiar with both tennis scenes. What I've noticed is, on the women's side, there are many divisions and matches within those divisions that are close, competitive, and meaningful until the last week of division play. Although some women are not perfect angels and a few women might be, shall I say in a nice way "very competitive", they all fight hard and fight fair to try to win. It's refreshing to see.

On the men's side, it is almost a foregone conclusion before anyone steps on to the court, who is going to win the division and go straight to cities. The rest of the lower echelon teams can fight it out amongst themselves in QT, put the next weekend on hold for fun with family and friends only to get smoked in cities by a bunch of cheaters (the captains) and liars (the players). What a great way to spend a summer weekend.

The cheating is blatant. I've witnessed multiple captains agree to put a 6-1, 6-0 win in Tennislink as 6-4, 6-4. I've witnessed excellent players gratuitously moan and groan, hit balls just wide or deep, and clip the tops of nets to lose to a lesser player in a meaningless match to preserve their kick-ass, 4.0 rating. The poor, unsuspecting opponents, on the other side of the net, are trying their butts off to try to win but those of us, in the "know", understand exactly what is happening. Along the same lines, "captains" put their experienced cheating claws into many of these unsuspecting, recently back-to-the-game players and tell them to self rate (lie) as a 3.5 or 4.0 fully understanding they are at least a 4.5 once they've witnessed them play.

Yes, these players can help get you to 4.0 Nationals! Wow! Amazing! You have the abilities to lie and cheat to get to that point. You should be so proud to tell Mommy, Daddy, your kids and Grandma what you've achieved. However, it's interesting to hear from recent comment that a 4.0 Dallas team hasn't won Nationals in 9 years. Try to remember the old adage, Winners never cheat and Cheaters never win....

The solution may be that everyone "man up" and see where their abilities will take them and be happy with realizing you've done the best you could do in a fair and honest manner. At the end of the day, isn't it really about hanging with friends, playing fairly and competitively and enjoying a beer after the match?

  18. The butt hurt is strong here. This must be the place where the losers come to console each other. Until the USTA fixes the system and enforces the rules, stop whining about what guys do to game the system. Sure it sucks that they do it, but the real problem is sitting in Austin.

And by the way, Russouw and Klamecki should be assumed for always putting out so much junk while hiding behind the name "Murray Langston". While you two are at it, why not get the Twitter mob riled up and have them attack Freeman, Le and Rigney. Those three totally deserve a good public shaming. Maybe get them fired. Maybe cause their wives to leave them. Get enough momentum and maybe John Oliver would expose the injustice taking place in Texas tennis. That should show those cheaters. But until then, keep playing subpar tennis and hope Freeman, Le and/or Rigney are nice enough to offer a reach around.

    1. I didn't know Rossouw and Klamecki were Murray Langston. Interesting.

    2. I know Rossouw and Klamecki. Not sure either are Murray. But Murray Langston is the unknown comic and I'm pretty sure the real one isn't concerned with Texas tennis. So it's definitely a name that someone is hiding behind.

Since most people don't give a crap about FW tennis, I'd bet Klamecki is at least handling that content for the articles. Plus he can't beat Rigney's team so I wouldn't be shocked if he is the one with the beef here. Probably half the "anonymous" rants about Rigney are coming from him. At the end of the day, who cares though. Dallas is the deeper league as is Houston. FW is just an occasional blip on the radar. Big Brother Dallas is always there to put them back in their place.

      Delete
    3. Having been around some of these guys, you sure it's all Klamecki? Homan is the team captain and I know he was pretty upset about the ass pounding they took during the FW finals. I was standing near the team after their matches and there was a lot of whining about it. I'm not even sure Homan lasted 35 mins on court before it was over. He can be an arrogant prick at times so it was a pleasure to watch.

  19. 8:26 is so naive and such a bitch. You have no clue. If you are out to just hang with friends then do that. Why even worry about the politics and if you win or lose if you are our for fun? You are just a little bitch who does nothing but complain. You claim to know about women's tennis but you are way off. It is the exact same. You say Texas will not win because cheaters "never win"? Well Texas losses every year at Nationals. Dallas hasn't made it to Nationals at 18s in years. These teams that you claim are cheaters are losing to teams, which in your eyes means they are even bigger cheaters. In the end a cheating team is winning.

Quit bitching. Ive never seen grown men complain so much in my life. It is embarrassing.

    ReplyDelete
  20. And we all know who the majority of the guys complaining and bashing on this blog are. It is embarrassing for each of you.

  21. Complaining that this captain does this or this player does that...when it comes down to it you're just upset that you aren't good enough to be invited to play on one of those well planned teams.

    ReplyDelete
  22. 8:26 post is spot on. Be prepared for all of the ridicule that will come you way for telling the truth (something that is not in most of the cheaters). I find it funny that all of the known cheaters and yes based on being around the tennis scene here in Dallas for years its easy to pick them out. Look at the fall results and spring results on most of the players on the "winning" teams. These guys all justify there cheating by pointing out how all the other regions that win nationals must be bigger cheaters because they beat our local "hero's".

Most of these cheating assholes are all just alike, they like hanging out with each other because they are all the same. Hanging out after tennis practice or matches telling each other how great they are, what a bunch of losers!

  23. Some interesting points from this years sectionals.

In 4.0 Finals Dallas vs Fort worth there were 2 players on the court from Ft Worth who were rated 3.5 players. One at #2 singles and one at #3 doubles. (Rigney kept saying to anyone that would listen that that was his #1 team). Pretty impressive if that was a true statement.
Dallas 4.0 was so deep and loaded that they were able to throw in a fresh set of guys for the finals. That always helps. Jorge Aguilar was a lock as predicted. Even with the 3 DQ's they will be a favorite at Nationals.

In 4.5 the sleeper team from SETX had the team to beat but they didn't have a key component Sunday Tyler Cobb. (This is the guy Dallas players were complaining about all season who was on 4.0 Houston roster). Their singles players were lights out but the Dallas heat on Sunday caught up to them in back to back matches. Oh and by the way the #1 guy from Beaumont actually resides in Dallas so he loved playing in his backyard and hearing how good he was on his local blog.

In 5.0 Loren Collins treated the eventual champions San Antonio team singles player to a double bagel and with such ease. What a display.

Lastly Dallas did another great job of hosting sectionals. Facilities were amazing and the only thing I would want in the future is for the men's 4.0/4.5 and maybe 5.0 on Sunday to be at the same spot. So we can definitely see the difference in levels first hand.

  24. A quick question for you guys that seem to bitch every week on this blog about Le, Freeman, Sisk, Pickett, Bender, Clark and what ever other captain wins.

Do you really think you have any chance if they were not in the picture? You guys need to get a reality check on your tennis games.

The Le 4.0 team has a number of guys who will win maybe 60% of the 4.5 matches they play in. They are nice 4.5 ability players who beat you guys 0,0 and 1,1, etc. These are average 4.5 players playing 4.0 and are beating you badly. Should they be at 4.5, yes! But most of you complaining should be at 3.5! You make way too much out of what they are doing.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Did you see the Houston 3.5 team? I don't think they beat them either.

      Delete
    2. I do agree with 8:26 but I also agree with 11:55 here. All the guys (that I know) would not do very well at 4.5. But I think the reason most people are upset at that team specifically is because they committed all three of the most complained about rules violations in team tennis all on one team:

      1. Tanking to get rating down.
      2. Recruiting out of level ringers to play.
      3. Lying on self-rate form.

There are lots of teams that do #2, a few less teams that do #1, and very few teams who do #3. And this is probably the only team in Texas that did all three. While most of the blog posts congratulate this kind of behavior, I think that 95 percent of us would be perfectly content getting rid of teams/captains that do this and losing at nationals every year. I don't get why anyone cares if Texas wins nationals or Dallas wins Sectionals are whatever. Would be much more pleasant to have competitive matches on a weekly basis at whatever level. Let the bashing begin.

      Delete
    3. All in reference to Le's team since I didn't specify. In first paragraph I meant all the players I know on Le's team which is about half of them.

    4. Well reading about the 3.5 team out of SOCAL going to nationals sounds llike Freeman and Le have a twin that knows how to manipulate the computer. Good job guys, hope you go out there and whip out and measure your selves to see who is the biggest and the best in the midget category

      Delete
  25. Although it's not likely to happen, doing away with the NTRP system entirely might be the only way to make things fair again and prevent cheating. Maybe the USTA leagues should have an Open division, and then go by age ranges such as 18-34, 35-49, 50-60, 60-70, or something similar. Just as in tournaments, you could play in a division younger than your actual age, but not an older division. Maybe doing this would encourage players to become the best that they can be, trying to improve each season, and eliminating sandbagging because it would be of no benefit. If there are any questions as to accuracy of age, demand proof via official ID or document, and if it doesn't match up, the player is removed from competition in the specified division. Of course no system is perfect, and lower-level players would have difficulty advancing very far in this age system...but the current system does very little to curb cheating and sandbagging, so those lower-level players are getting a raw deal regardless. At least in an age-based system, cheating would be virtually non-existent.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Theres so much that would have to change....its all subjective as to who belongs at what level anyway.
You say the 3.5s are really 4.5s? Didn't some of them lose matches? At least some sets? Close ones? That means it's competitive. Competition means that the players are appropriately rated in my opinion.

    1. I have no issues with you or your teams. I don't know anybody that really does. I am sure there are a small number of people who have serious issues but I don't know them.

Even if I could not stand your guts, I think you have been screwed over. If calling someone a female dog or a male genital part can get this kind of DTA wrath, then they will be handing out suspensions like the police could give speeding tickets at the Indy 500.

I have seen far worse behavior than anything you have done.

As for putting my name, I really don't want a DTA vendetta against me.

    2. If the USTA National organization finally gets involved in this they may very well come to Dallas to have a little audit of the local DTA's abuse of authority. If this were a real company somebody would likely get fired.

    3. I guess the DTA committee has never played against these women. I quit playing mixed because so many of the women were ridiculous bitches. I once unintentionally hit a Brookhaven woman and she called be quite a few choice words that go beyond that. Can I file a retroactive DQ?

Another time I served hard to one (another Brookhaven) and the man threatened me with violence.

I know this is Greenhill but I usually think of Greenhill as Brookhaven people who want to add some non-members.

As a result, I will never play mixed again.

    4. i would think there are a lot of folks who would prefer this stay local.
If the national USTA org gets involved and gets pointed to look at the match records of many of the players that are complained about endlessly on this blog, it could end very poorly for them.

Just be careful what you wish for..

  30. Whether you like Alan or not, the DTA has really screwed itself this time. The next time anyone utters a profanity at another player, disparages another player, or gets into any off the court disagreement the DTA will have to ban them from tennis for at least six months. Can't wait to watch this blow up on them. Every captain should pick their least favorite country club and start filing grievances.

  31. It is too funny reading all the whining about teams that win. Have you ever considered that if these "cheating" teams can't win Nationals because the other regions are better that you bitches are playing out of level and not the "cheaters". Put your egos aside and play the level you should be playing at 3.5!

    1. That's exactly what I have been trying to say. If there are competitive matches then you're true to level!

  32. All players, all genders that win Nationals are out of level!!! Corey....you witnessed it first hand in 2008. The content on this blog is cyclic. It's really ridiculous to repost about this nonsense! If kelly, Alan, and Gene's suspension sricks, half the DTA population should be next. All DTA winners are out of level! !!!!

    1. No surprise to see John and Alan on here trying to defend their actions.

There is "out of level" and there is cheating/tanking to manipulate your rating.

Those who are "out of level" are use only a temporary issue, as the computer will move them up appropriately. No one is or has been complaining about that.

It's that group of folks who continually go out and lose matches on purpose to maintain a rating that are the problem. It's sad, pathetic and lacks any sportsmanship.

Funny thing is, if you meet the folks who are the biggest tankers, their behavior makes a lot of sense, as they are exactly the kind of losers you expect they would be.

  33. It's the best teams' fault that the mid-level whiners are always on here complaining. If you'd let them go to sectionals once in a while and get crushed by someone outside of Dallas they'd start complaining about them instead.

    1. Exactly! We'd just like to get beat by some people we don't know occasionally.

    2. Why don't you play up a level. That is a similar level to sectionals and you would be getting beat by people you don't know.

  34. Hey Dallas Blog!
First time, first time, but let me educate you all:
All this bitching from the 4.0 field is nonsense. The real criminals are in the 5.0+ and I seem to be the only one who has the nerve to mention it.
Loren Collins, Loren Collins, the guy is a hack! I've seen him play, decent footwork. Did you know the guy threatens his opponents? Yep, heard it myself. Told the San Antonio guy if he won a game he would go Nick Kyrgios on his girlfriend. I don't even know what that means but the poor little guy was visibly rattled by it.
There are also guys like Jimenez, Russo and Arrant. All bad seeds! I saw Jimenez hit a ball at a young boy once, thank goodness he missed, he couldn't hit water from a boat with that forehand. All three of those guys have a very violent history.
The captain of those convicts is no saint himself. I guess it takes a special kind of guy create a team of deadbeats. Perkison fancys himself as a writer which is interesting because I heard that he published a book about a violent tennis player that murders his father. Humm...wonder where he got that idea?

    2. I'd like to apologize and retract my last post. Loren does not threaten his opponents, I did not hear him say anything to the San Antonio kid about his girlfriend and he is not a hack. He is an excellent attorney. Russo, Arrant and Jimenez are not violent people, quite the contrary, salt of the earth. Jimenez has a decent forehand. However, I stand by everything I said about Perkison. Don't cross the guy, you've been warned.

I'm sending my crew of rats for you, 4:24. We may be penniless, homeless and (most of us increasingly) hairless, but we're coming; an aging, slowing, parade of 15 year old rackets and continental grips. Like Crystal Pepsi or Taylor Swift's cultural relevance, we're coming.

    We're coming in droves.

  39. Evidently the players who were embarrassed by their captains behavior are thinking about skipping cities.

  40. I'm from the Corpus team that lost to the Dallas 4.0 team in flight play. In no way would we consider Dallas or Tony Le cheaters. They know the system and know how to play it. I wish we could come back next year even stronger (like I'm sure Dallas and these other top teams will), but it's tougher in the smaller cities with a smaller pool of players to choose from.

Anyway, again, great match from the Dallas team. Keep up the good work and good luck at nationals.

    1. Really a super champ playing 4.0, CC is no better than Dallas and Houston

    2. Who is the 19 year old super champ that played line 1? Because we had a guy on our team that got DQ'd once he qualified for super champs, but that's it. He definitely didn't come with us to sectionals.

    3. quite certain that you will not get bumped if you are computer rated prior to becoming a Super Champ or get a D1 scholarship, etc.

      Delete
    4. Self rated not computer rated. And he was reevaluated after qualifying for super champs and bumped up based on his rating from the 2 league matches he played.

  45. Does anyone know if DTA has considered not counting the fall and spring leagues for ratings, and only count the summer? It may help limit the tanking. At worst, the tankers can't play at that level for 1 year.

Houston only counts the summer league for ratings.

    2. Dta would lose a lot of money if they did that.

    3. As long as their precious country clubs won they would think it is worth it.

    4. Do you think participation would significantly drop if the fall and spring leagues don't count toward ratings?

I would still play just to keep working on my game and having fun.

    5. I'd play Ultimate or League Tennis.

    6. I think participation drops because the dta cares more about the clubs they belong to over the rest of the players. They have done a bad job for years and people are sick of it.

  46. You did not get an answer from Sherri, lol
    Say it ain't so.
They want your league money, but don't want to provide any value or customer service.

    Vote with your $$$.
Boycott the fall or play in Ft Worth instead.
This is our League not Sherri's.
