Still Waiting

As comprehensive as I can get; men’s 5.0 through 3.5 by flight.  Hard to get too excited until the playoffs start to come into view.

Much left to be decided in 5.0+ with Lakes, TBar and Perkison all still undefeated.

Flight A – Reiman, Moore and Corey are all undefeated.  This is Reiman’s flight to lose.  He has added some young talent to his always strong roster, maybe it’s his year.
Flight B – Herget-Loose and Way are both 3-0 and don’t face off until the last match of the year.  Tucker’s squad is undefeated but they have only posted one match so far.
Flight C – Warren is in the driver’s seat having already beaten Harllee’s squad.  The real question is how is Alzuro 1-1 while Corey and Sisk are both 0-3 (ok, it’s Corey’s B team but still).

Flight A – Oasis, High Point and Oak Creek are undefeated with Corey’s team firmly in fourth.  This flight is turning out to be worse than I thought.
Flight B – High Point and McKinney are still undefeated but this flight was done before it started.
Flight C – This is Bazan’s flight to lose.  Only undefeated team left

Flight D – Headed for an Oak Creek and GTC showdown.  Royal Oaks finally lost as expected.

Flight A – Oak Creek is the only undefeated team.  All 3.5 flights are a double round robin though.
Flight B – LBH is in the driver’s seat having already beaten Fretz.
Flight C – McKinney is the only undefeated team here.

  1. I'm actually looking at doing a mixed post after the season get's going. I tried mixed one season and didn't really care for it - completely different game. But for those of you who haven't, it's a lot harder than it might seem.

  2. Well said Murray. Ask Corey how hard it is this morning. I hate Kelley but he makes it look like a piece of cake. His record last 5 years pretty damned impressive. Bastard!

    1. There are a lot of things that are difficult, doesn't make you the messiah for beating up on lesser players. If I had a 4.0+ player like Kelly has every week I'm pretty sure I would love mixed too. I played with 5.0 mixed partners all season in TCD and loved it.

      Delete
    2. So why didn't you play 9.0? No one signed up to play 9.0, but springpark. Last year we kept hearing, "you can't win 9.0". Well, what happened to the other teams? And our 8.0 3.5 ladies practice mixed 4-6 hours a week. We had 8 teams come to practice on Wednesday at noon and Saturday at 8:00am. If you want to win, you need to practice. And practice going after the ladies. This way they are ready when it happens in a real match. This year there is more competition at 8.0. For the past few seasons, it's been us and Brookhaven Bartlett. This year, there are 4 teams that could win. And Corey, in your other post you said you lost respect for people who focus on mixed. I lost respect for people who get beat their first match and then quit on the season. It's going to be hard for any team to go undefeated this year. Why don't you keep playing and have your ladies practice more and try to win the playoff at the end of the year.

And if you think we are out of level, I think the Le 7.0 team would have a great chance at 8.0.

    3. corey, if you think Mike Kelleys partner is a 4,0 plus you better check again. Go watch her play. Better yet play a match with her and then decide. Since You say "Kelley " beating up on lesser players easy why didn't you win your mixed 8.0 match. You were a 5.0 last year. You have no respect for mixed buy yet you realized its not as easy as you thought??? Makes no sense

    4. Corey,
What did Kelley do or say to you to cause the rant? I am no fan of Alan or Kelley but I believe Alan absolutely right. Your comments that you lost respect for those that play mixed AND Kelley playing with a 4.0 + woman every week was easy. Go back and look at some of his partners he has won with, they are nowhere near 4.0. Why not just say mixed is a lot tougher than it seems and what Kelley has done over the years is pretty difficult to do. You are way above the anger and hate.. And all this after just ONE MATCH????? Why didn't you field a 9.0 team if it's "easy to beat up on lesser players"? You are a class act , keep it that way. Don't stoop down to the haters and bashers.

    5. Mary Zackary was a 4.5 player for a decade. In 2013 she joined Alan's 8.0 team and has since barely won a set in women's tennis dropping her rating to 3.5. It must be all of that practice they're doing......

      Delete
    6. Good point but she is now playing with kelley. he has a tendency to make his players much, much better. I have seen her play and while she is a good player, she is not a 4.0 and her movement is very limited. She is actually the third best 3.5 on Alan's team. If you think she is so out of level , whoever this is go ask her to play with you and then ask Kelley to go find a 3.5 (or 3.0) and you guys go at it. Post on here the outcome after the match.

      Delete
    7. Not a 4.0? She's only winning because she's playing with Kelly? Perhaps instead of taking your obviously expert and impartial assessment we'll just look at her multiple 4.0 mixed major zones tournament wins last summer - none of which was with Kelly. All the while she can't get more than 3 games in any set of ladies tennis.

Looking her up and asking her to play with me against her mixed partner to prove she's out of level makes a lot of sense though. What could possibly go wrong with that scenario?

      Delete
    8. Look at who she has lost to as well in mixed tourney. When you are playing 8.0 major zones the best a male player on the other side of the net can be is a 4.0. There are no 4.5 guys in 8.0 major zones, HUGE DIFFERENCE. As I said, if she is so great snatch her away from Alan and build a team around here. Let's see how far she gets and how many wins playing against 4.5's.

      Delete
    9. I would totally agree with above poster after looking it up just now (why I wasted my time I don't know). She has never lost a match playing with Mike Kelley against anyone. The one match where she did play a 4.5 without Mike Kelley she lost. Actually the guy was even a 4.0 at the time. So yes, she is a good player but the facts are playing 8.0 tourneys against 4.0 guys and playing 4.5 guys a different animal all together. Again, with all the hate directed at Alan and SP if she was that much of a difference maker she would have been scooped up way back when. When you are dragging the 3.5 woman into the argument as to why SP is so dominant you have been beaten before you even step on the court.

      Delete
    10. GREAT POINT 11:19 and one of the more insightful. Most of these teams are beaten before the first ball is struck.

      Delete
    11. Le's best players would beat Alan's.

      Delete
    12. If they thought that they would have played 8.0. They knew w SP in 8.0 they would go for a for sure thing by playing 7.0. Nice post though. Kelley would eat those guys up in mixed and spit them out.

      Delete
    13. Agree on 12:14 poster. They will dominate at 7.0 no doubt. Playing at 8.0 and taking two lines from SP not happenin.

      Delete
    14. Who wins the other lines/ Tony's women are better players. Thanh is a 4.5 and playing as a 3.0.

      Delete
    15. why didn't Le play 6.0 mixed? That for sure wins a national title.

      Delete
    16. Keep dreamin, makes for good chatter. However, Tony's women are better. That's what makes the argument on this blog that Alan's 3.5's are not out of level. thank you.

      Delete
    17. Tony's unbeatable doubles duo tri level guys were supposedly better than Kelley too the year Kelley won Tri nationals. How did that turn out for ya?

      Delete
    18. It's no wonder why Dallas tennis a joke. Someone talking smack to Kelley the "Messiah" (not his words, Corey's) that Le's guys are better and they haven't won a single match? Not even sure why 11:45 poster would blog that. Who gives a damn! Let them dominate 7.0 and next year try and dominate 8.0. While I don't like Kelley or his gamesmanship he is arguably the best mixed player in the state. Yes, Le's guys are out of this world but give it a rest!

      Delete
    19. I would hope Toni's guys are better. They are in their early twenties and played at Baylor. Kelley is 50 and plays at Springpark.

      Delete
    20. They didn't play for Baylor.

      Delete
    21. I did ask Toni if he wanted to come have a practice match. We may play later in the season.

    22. Glad to see the blog is interesting again. I haven't quit mixed. I will be out there Sunday, and the next Sunday, and the next Sunday. And Alan I did try to play on a 9.0 team, out of Springpark actually, but the captain didn't want to waste time playing in a 2 or 3 team league which I happen to agree with.

Also, I never said people who played mixed were wasting their time, I said mixed should not be the focal point of anyone's tennis career. Is there one pro player who is a mixed doubles specialist?

And can we all please stop acting like Mike Kelly isn't playing with better players than all the other teams. Leave his level out of your reply. What I said was, he is playing with 4.0+ partners playing 3.5. That's great if you're amazing coaching got them to that level or whatever, the fact of the matter is Kelly is a 5.0 and his partner is at least a 4.0. So am I impressed with a 9.0 team that goes 775-3 or whatever in mixed when they are a full point above the opposition, no I'm not. And the vast majority of people on this blog, or in Dallas tennis, or anywhere in the world are not either.

      Delete
    23. I wish the other captain would have kept the team. I think we could have had a really good competitive 7 match season. We had to switch up our team to make 2 so we could have a season.

      Alan

    24. I was totally up for it. Four teams would have been ideal.

    25. The 9.0 Dallas winner last year had most of their 4.5s bumped to 5.0, which isn't unusual for a team of good players that don't tank their men's and women's matches. Makes it hard to form a team, though.

Will be interesting to see if Sprinkpark 9.0 can repeat last year's team result and make it to nationals...

      Delete
    26. Corey, the partner you played with last Sunday was playing in 4.0 leagues in 2013. You were a 5.0 as well. That would make you guys 9.0. Bottom line it is not as easy as you think. You said as much yourself. I despise kelley but his mixed record is absolutely off the charts. You have played only one match and lost it. I don't care what kelley does or doesn't do but to say it is no big deal to win 8.0 when you have lost more matches in an hour and a half than he has in two years is stupid.

      Delete
    27. Agreed with above, and yes Leander Paes is a mixed doubles specialist, just like Kelley. He can't win in mens but he can dominate mixed, just like Kelley. Only difference is about $25 million dollars.

      Delete
    28. I'm pretty sure Paes has won a fair share of men's doubles tournaments. I guess he and the Bryans suck because all they won is doubles. If you haven't won 18 grand slams you suck. Anything less is just a joke.

      Delete
    29. Federer only won 17.

      Delete
    30. Not once did I ever say it was easy. I said it wasn't admirable for a 9.0 or 9.5 team to dominate 8.0.

      Delete
    31. Would it be impressive for Federer to go and win 100 challenger titles?? The goal is supposed to be to compete at the highest level you can AND win. Not go as low as possible to win more often. It's kind of common sense.

      Delete
  3. Kelley why don't you go out and play a real mans sport instead of beating up on 3.5 and 4.0 women! You would get your ass handed to you in tourneys!

Speaking of T. Le, another 5-0 sweep led by line one doubles star Arcarryme and one of Le's new studs. Speaking of studs M. Kelly and S. Hyunh continue to struggle with thier tennis games with both going down in straight sets again... come on guys take a lesson!

    2. If you have played both and can beat both what's the issue?

      Delete
    3. The issue is Kelly is 102-3 in mixed when others just playing for fun and exercise. The DTA should make a rule where if you completely dominate a league you must then play w a lower level woman. For instance if he annihilates people the way he has w a 3.5 he should then have to play w a 3.0 for the following year. Lets see how fun that moron likes that!

      Delete
    4. I am not too sure he wouldn't dominate playing with a 3.0. If he is as good as he thinks I think he should do that some week and play with a 3.0.

    5. All he does is play singles with a stationary woman standing very close to the net in the alley.

If you're bitching because someone is "too good" then it sounds to me like you're playing above your level and you should perhaps consider bumping yourself down.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Corey......I've never heard Kelly claim to be the Messiah, but there is a comparison, one delivers biblical cleansing and the other delivers tennis trophies. Play with Kelly's partner for a set, then switch and see if Kelly is 2-0

    ReplyDelete
  9. I would agree w 8:23. kelley plays when and where Alan tells him too. I know he is probably a jerk but in the limited time i have spoken to him I have never heard him mention his accomplishments at mixed. Anyway, I would tend to argue that even if playing with a 3.5 he could beat most 9.0 teams. He is very smart and has court savvy and can raise his game if need be. NEVER has he referred to himself as the "messiah" but you may have coined a phrase you may get tired of hearing.

    ReplyDelete
  10. If you call court savvy hogging the freakin ball every chance you get then the "Messiah" is the king of the ball hoggers. How hard is it to play the whole court against lesser opponents? please . Corey is right, what a sham and a farce mixed is. It is only for sissies like Kelley!!!

  12. Corey, this is your quote on May 4 @ 10:30:

"I feel a lot differently than I did the day before my match. I feel like I may not want to do it again next season. So i guess you would say I lost respect for players who focus on mixed. It's not real tennis."

Really? Not real tennis? hmmmm, guess Leander Paes should give his prize money back.

    Real translation:

"It's a lot more difficult, even impossible it seems to win playing with a 3.5 and not as easy as I thought. The "Messiah" gets no respect from me and what he has done. Mixed is a waste of time since it's fake tennis".

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Well the singles winner at Wimbledon in 2014 got 1.76 million pounds and the mixed doubles winner got 96 thousand. Which do you think Leander Paes would rather win? Leander Paes is an amazing doubles player but he is not choosing mixed over singles because he wants to.

I already said mixed was difficult.

      Delete
    2. While that is true Corey. The winner of Men's 4.5 Nationals and the winner of 7.0 Mixed both just got a crystal tennis ball. At this rec level, it is all the same and merely a preference. Tony played 7.0 because it was easier than facing Alan when he would have a good chance there too. If they both win, they get the same glass tennis ball. I would think the value is exactly the same.

      Delete
    3. You think winning 7.0 is as impressive as winning 8.0? If that's how the majority of people feel then that would make all the tanking, sandbagging, etc. make sense to me finally. I would rather be 5.0 and be the 500th best than be the best 3.5 or 4.0 but that's me. I can't speak for anyone else.

      Delete
    4. Kinda elitist are we? I think best 5.0 is stupid as you aren't the best 5.5 or 6.0 or 6.5 or 7.0.

Best at level is best at level. In the end, all you get is a piece of glass.

      Delete
    5. Well yes none of us are actually playing to be the best. But it would be nice if everyone tried to be their best.

      Delete
    6. Sorry to say this Corey because its not personal to you, but you'd get beat at 4.0 Nationals anyway. If you think there are any 4.0s playing on Sunday at 4.0 Nationals then you are sadly mistaken.

      Delete
    7. Corey....don't even try with these morons it's not worth it. Completely agree with you, would rather be an average 4.5, than win anything at a level in which you have to tank to be successful at, whether it's at playoffs, sectionals, or whatever. If you are a true 4.5 or 5.0, it would be embarrassing as hell to tell anyone you won nationals at 4.0 or 3.5, but these cheats are that to begin, and there are probably good reasons for that to begin with.

      Delete
    8. To 5:05,

I don't think there are. Isn't that the problem?

      Delete
    9. If you get to 4.0 nationals you probably aren't a 4.0 anymore anyway. You had to beat an entire city and section's worth of 4.0s so by the natural process your rating would keep going up and you'd almost have to be 4.5 by then. I don't know if that's the problem or just the way the system works to identify who gets moved up.

      Delete
  13. to 8:42:

So you say hogging the ball and beating up on lesser opponents and 3.5 and 4.0 women a joke. Last time I checked there were men on the other side of the court as well. Both Corey and his team mate playing the other line were 5.0's last year and both lost? Waste of time (right), easy to win (wrong).

  16. How out of level must Tony Le's 7.0 mixed team be to get a direct call out from Alan A.? Given all that Alan's teams have accomplished, I would trust his opinion. Tony must have outdone himself.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Tony by far has outcaptained anyone in the league. He has amassed a very good 7.0 team but his 4.0 team is off the charts. If he doesn't win nationals with that team there is no hope for any of us. However, i will say doing it on the court and doing it on paper two different things. Alan and his mixed team have dominated for years and made it look easy doing so. I am not ready to label tony as captain of the decade like Alan A. but I will say he definitely is captain of this year. Any of those lucky enuff to be on his 4.0 team have a great ride. If Tony could get kelley as a 4.0 he might take that team all the way to galaxies (that's after nationals against the best martians and aliens on the planet).

I personally accept that many teams have players that are slightly above level and will be bumped up soon. This has become somewhat the norm and acceptable. The real issue happens with misleading self-rates and players tanking in the Fall to get bumped down to a level below where they should be playing based on their prior results. Where is the line of what's acceptable to the Dallas tennis community?

    3. I don't think I have any cheaters at 7.0. Zackery may be the one who thinks he is out of level. Mike Pearson is solid, but not way out of level. Will Scott is not out of level. Sarah is as good as it gets at 3.0, but not out of level.

Wiley may be out of level, but I don't think he will be in town. It will be 0-3. Maybe 1-2. My team is using 18's for 40's practice. No one can beat Le's team. Unless there are some dq's. If that happens, we have a shot to win. But no one in the league has a chance, if he brings out his best players. He's lines 4-6 would still be a solid team. I've already told him that he has won the league.

    4. I agree. I don't see anything unbeatable. You have nobody that can take Tony's top 5 lines.

    5. Tony will be very smart about this. He will get the Aguilars some losses and that 3.0 a loss as well. Tony will beat this rap! I notice Corey awful quiet about Tiny le

    6. Wiley is only out of level because he is 3.5. He is a good 4.0 and nothing else.

    7. Analysis of Tony Le's 7.0 Team (guys):
Jorge Aguilar – 3.5 – is probably a 5.0 player but at the worst a top level 4.5 player – see history below
Tournament history from 2014 in Open division:
      - Cotton Bowl singles – won 1 match and lost 2nd round match
      - Cotton bowl doubles – lost opening match – pleayed with Jean Nguyen
      - Charlie Weaver – lost opening match; won one and lost one in consolation rounds
      - Looks to have played Boys 18s tournament in 2009;
      League history from 2014:
      - Played on Oak Creek/Erbe 4.0 division – Played 4 doubles matches with Carlos Aguilar – Lost all 4 matches – scores were 6-4,6-4; 6-1,6-4; 6-0, 6-2; 6-2, 6-1;
Carlos Aguilar – 3.5 –Now Carlos is not on the team but most likely he will join – he is definitely a 5.0 player – is currently the #2 ranked player in Men’s Open Doubles – see history below
      Looks to have played Boys 18s tournaments in 2010;
Tournament history from 2014 in Open division:
      - Charlie Weaver – Open Doubles – Won the Doubles title with Ferny Avila
      - Played in Poke-Jos Top 8 Mens Open Doubles – won 1 match – no other matches played
      - Cotton Bowl – Open Doubles – won 2 matches lost 1 match – played with Ferny Avila
      - Charlie Weaver –Open Singles - won 1st round match and lost in 2nd rd
      League history from 2014 – losses I mentioned above and singles loss 6-2,6-2;
Ryan McClanahan - 3.5 - it looks like he might have played for something called Tennis on Campus while he was in college at OU. So must be a younger guy. His team seemed to be good and they seemed to have gone far in USTA competition. For him to be playing USTA recreational tennis while he was at OU, he must have played in high school and was probably pretty good. He probably wanted to keep playing competitively. He is most likely a mid-level 4.5 player
      Victor Tran – 4.0 – is probably a good 4.5 player
      Tony Le - 4.0 - probably 4.5
Mo Mahmoud - 3.5 - lots of 6-0,6-1,6-2 defeats in 4.0 in the fall - however regained form this year - its a miracle; probably a 4.0
Thanh Tran - 3.0 - this is a straight up joke - Thanh won Brookhaven Mixed 4.0 doubles (4 matches); he is most likely a 4.0
James peter burger – 3.5 – was not able to find much on burger – plays mostly 3.5 and mixed – has a lot of wins but nothing out of the ordinary –probably a top 3.5 player
Chuck Lee – 3.0 – was not able to find much – he played in one match at #3 line and won – anytime a guy is self-rate 3.0, we can call bullshit on that – let us be conservative and call him a 3.5 player
Jose Aguilar – 3.5 – not much history on Jose

    8. I was going to do an analysis on Le's 7.0 team ladies but I don't think it is worth it. His 4.0 team has some of the same players I mentioned above: Aguilars (Jorge, Carlos and Jose), McClanahan, Tran, etc. I am sure if I dig deeper, there are probably 2-3 more players that have the same history as these guys above.
Frankly - this is quite embarrassing. I expect most teams to have a couple of players that are out of level (and that a 1 level bump so a 4.5 playing in 4.0, etc.). This is just ridiculous and shameless. It is insulting to the rest of the Dallas players. I hope the trip to Nationals is worth it.

    9. Just to be clear, I questioned the Line 1 team that played against my team on Sunday. A quick search showed he was a Super Champ (barely more than 5 years ago) and went to Nationals with Oklahoma in USTA Tennis on Campus. She was a 3 time individual state qualifier in 4A here in Texas.
      Both were rated 3.5.
That is all I questioned. I was told that the guy was already being looked into along with several others from the Men's 4.0 team (from an inquiry a few weeks ago, likely after they played in Men's 4.0)

    10. Tennis on Campus Nationals is 5.0 but that is not fair. I know the Oklahoma Tennis team sucks so I bet the Tennis on Campus thing sucks there too. You probably just show up and are on the team. Doubt they have enough players to make a squad and everyone goes to Nationals.

    11. Oklahoma is ranked 1 in the nation in NCAAs and it is a big university.

      Delete
    12. So worst case scenario Tony will have 3 or 4 players DQ from his 7.0 and 4.0 teams. The rest of the squad might still be good enough to get to Nationals.

  35. Its sad but Most people who read this actually don't care about these people like Corey, kelley, le, muniz. I know I don't. I really don't think most people do either. This boring blog has like 2 or 3 people crying over and over and not talking about Dallas tennis, it just the same boo hoo bitch fest every other post.
So, whats wrong with a guy wanting to talk about 4.0 or 3.5 tennis, let them. We have as many 3.5s as 4.5er's in Dallas.

HEY Corey Noel, B-Mo, Captain Fantastic, Murray Langston, Rossouw, Klamecki, why don't you update this pathetic blog and let anyone post a topic and make it more a enjoyable message board because this blog sucks!!!
Why don't you so called bloggers....due something valuable and break down the players on a team, and that's right bitches....talk about the top singles guys on a team or in a division, maybe the top dubs teams in a division. Better yet....Why not give a break down of the top singles guys like top 10, for singles and dubs for 3.5, 4.0, and 4.5.

    1. They have tried that and it works ok, but there is more comments when people bitch and complain.

    2. Hey 7:30. You sound like everyone you're complaining about. Bitch, bitch, bitch. What makes you any different? People will post what they want to post, bloggers will write what they want to write. Feel free to cancel your subscription and stop reading it. Yes, we know who the best teams, singles players, doubles teams are. Why the hell should we tell you? Anyone with a clue about Dallas tennis already knows the answers to those questions.

    4. -they don't play 3.5
-maybe in 2011 but not now
-kelly wins less than 50% at 4.5

    5. Relax Huffins. You beat Fretz. That's like beating the Rangers.

  37. The thread topic the bloggers start has no impact on what the anons write. That's the easiest thing about this blog to figure out.

    We've reached a new low.

  39. Well.....some 3.5 stuff....
Lets see....Canyon Creek's Wild Card should be taking back, am I right...? My prediction is they will be finishing 2-6 or maybe 1-7 like JCC. Fall results mean nothing CC.

Flight A....Oakcreek should easily win group A and could go 7-1 or 8-0 depending on if some of the guys want to protect their ratings(just saying...look at the scores and players). Singles highlights: Only 1 player Ted Peng is 4-0 for Oakcreek with no challenges so far. Oakcreek wins flight A. No dubs teams to report.

Flight B: Fretz and LB will be in a dogfight for 1st in Flight B.
Players to watch in Singles: LB's Akhil Pawar is 2-0, and Fretz has 2 singles guys who are both 2-0 Mo Mahmoud and Nick Strohla.
In Dubs, Fretz also has probably the strongest doubles team in Flight B and maybe all of 3.5 with Wei-Bin and Yarbrough who are cruising at 2-0 but LB's Timothy Boyce / David Bittermann are also 2-0. I doubt either Capt will have them face off with each other in their 2nd team meeting but I would take Fretz.

Flight C: McKinney has a small lead 3-0 but I think Greenhill can finish 7-1 in Flight C. Brookhaven is also showing some signs that they are ready to compete again and might be able to edge out Mckinney for 2nd place at the end of the season.
Players to watch in Flight C: Singles Patrick N. Patterson 2-0, Greenhill has a few singles or dual role guys like Lipsie.
Doubles: Ronald Jones/ Rich Farris 2-0. I think Greenhill has the best group of players to compete with Fretz.

Most improved teams 3.5 are LB and Brookhaven. LB should be challenging to win the cities but I think i would rank them the 4th best team in 3.5.

Predictions for 1st place : Toss up Fretz or Greenhill
    3rd place : Oakcreek
    4th place: LB
