Why Can't We All Just Get Along?

With my apologies to Tim Burton.

Although I am a recent blog contributor, I was previously only a casual blog observer.  I did see enough, however, to watch a lot of nonsense packed in around several notable blowups over the last few years.  While this last week doesn’t match some of the high profile blowups of the past, it hasn’t really happened in a while and it got me thinking about why this happens.  I suppose it’s inevitable, mainly due to the anonymity, but it is interesting none-the-less how people can get so worked up about all this considering almost no one is ever willing to admit that men’s recreational tennis (or mixed recreational tennis) is that important to them.  Evidently it’s very important.

Jack said it best in the attached video, “Why can’t we all just get along?”  Of course you see what happened to Jack.

  1. No, we can't all just get along.

  2. I would say that the majority of us actually do get along. However, only those who do not get along will post about it. In the grand scheme, the number of people who do not get along are a small percentage of the actual population of players.

  4. I knew about the stabbing in the back part but didn't know his hand came off first.

  5. We do need to get along. I'm tired of losing to Houston every year.

  7. This is the biggest group of cry babies, some just like to alienate others to hope to get childish reaction on the board or send some personal attack because they are jealous, have personal dislike or another player or team. All teams want to win, get over it if a captain is trying to find a formula to win, players are going to cheat the system, will lose to protect their ratings, its going to happen, its not a surprise people who should dominant will tank until playoffs or tank if they get bumped. If you really want to win Dallas area captains and players, form a super team and win. Its a simple formula, get the best players form an unstoppable team and win or maybe form 2 or 3 super teams instead of some water down mediocre teams who barely get to citys and get crushed in Sectionals.
Who cares if a guy tanks, who cares in a guy pads his rating, he wants to WIN.

    1. but I want to take my 10 friends and win without having to get better players. and if we formed a super team I wouldn't be on it. or at least I wouldn't get to captain it. egos, its all about egos

  8. And what about the player opposing the cheating tanker....isn't his rating going to be affected unfairly? But that's ok, who cares.

    1. One match over an entire season has no effect

    2. People, quit complaining about Zakry. He is not a tanker bec he is not 4.5 quality and he ducks big matches. Complain about something else.

  9. I see Zacry is managing scores again.

    1. Or maybe the person you mention never did that or if he did he has been rehabilitated, and the person he played was merely better than expected. Always better to give people benefit of doubt until there is proof to the contrary.

  10. not good enuff to manage scores. he is playing at the level he should so there is no problem.

  11. agree w 4;10. Zachary a good 4.0 but will never dominate in sectionals so cant be a ringer. If he was a ringer Tony would have him on the super team. Had his chance and avoided le match for fear of losing. there are a lot of solid 4.0 players in dallas, and Tony has them all. It is ok to come in second or third place. Can we all not just play tennis and respect someone who is better than we are. If houston wins again they win, who cares. are we getting paid?

  12. Going to be very interesting to see a couple 8.0 matchups today. Brookhaven taking on SP right off the bat today. Lots of 8.0 teams, everyone desperately wanting to knock off Alan a and his dynasty. I think Brookhaven does that today.

    3. Will Scott a great addition to Tony's team. Nice guy w a big serve. Tony has put together two 5.0's, 6 4.5's and a bunch of VERY solid 4.0's. In my book he is Captain of the year easily.

    4. Is that captain or cheater of the year?

  14. For all those who think mixed is "easy" go ask Corey how he feels today (and Corey is a hell of a player). Not quite a walk in the park like those who can't do it think they can.

    1. As much as I hate kelley it makes what he has done in mixed last 5 years pretty damned impressive. Alan definitely has taught him and his team how to play mixed. kelley makes something very difficult look amazingly easy. bastard.

  15. I feel a lot differently than I did the day before my match. I feel like I may not want to do it again next season. So i guess you would say I lost respect for players who focus on mixed. It's not real tennis.

  16. So we went from all mike zackary all the time to now all mixed all the time? This blog is a waste.
