Week 1 Down. Feels like we just finished...

Week one is in the books.  A few surprises.  I thought the winner would be the rain but we got a lot of tennis in this weekend.  Lets just get started as time is short.

5.0+  I am changing my pick to Perkison. Collins and Jooste were not on the roster when I made my initial pick.  Jooste was a former Baylor #1 player and Loren Collins is fairly well known as a top guy.

Collins dropped Braga pretty hard.  This team is now officially loaded!  Hard to see them falling if they get their players out.  A very good team just got better... Significantly better.

4.5
Flight A:  There were no surprises here so little to report.  A few matches are not reporting either.  Reiman, Rossouw and Noel all won but they also didn't exactly play anyone of note.  They did what was expected.  This week is Reiman versus Rossouw to determine who the likely flight winner is.  I like Reiman's team to win this.

Flight B:  The only contender that played was T-Bar.  They won 4-1 and Lakes was on a  Bye week.  No real match of the week in this flight.

Flight C:  Village beat High Point 5-0 and looking like it wasn't even competitive.  In a surprise, Oak Creek lost to Huffhines.  Huffhines swept doubles.  I still think Brookhaven/Village wins this flight and that happens next.  Brookhaven easily dispatched the TBar B-team.

4.0
Flight A: Expected favorite Fretz/Noel wins 4-1 against Eagles Landing.  WTF is Eagles Landing?  Since there is nobody else worth mentioning, I will stop there.

Flight B:  The much discussed High Point/Le team won 5-0 against a Fretz team with 8 3.5s on it so nothing unexpected.  They weren't expected to be copetitive and they weren't.  Greenhill won 3-2 beat Springpark 3-2.  The winner of this is likely your QT participant.  Nothing major being played this week.

Flight C:  McKinney easily dispatched the Village without dropping a set.  Brookhaven handled El Dorado 4-1 so no surprises here.  McKinney does play a Fretz team but shouldn't have trouble.

Flight D:  In a surprise beat down, Oak Creek took Fretz 5-0 but Fretz defaulted two lines.  In the surprise team I have never heard of a single player is Greenhill/Wendelken they won 5-0 over Gleneagles.  Gleneagles is usually pretty decent so this may be a team to watch.

For all you clamoring about 3.5...

3.5
Flight A:  The wild card from the fall already lost 3-2 to Stonebridge by losing 3 3rd set tiebreakers.Oak Creek leads the pack.

Flight B:  Nobody has reported or played.

Flight C:  McKinney and Brookhaven won easily so that is that.

  1. The NTRP system clearly continues to have some major flaws above the 4.5 level. Loren Collins was a 5.5 last year, smoked everybody he played, and was moved down to 5.0. He picks right up this year with an 0 & 1 win over Braga who was considered to be one of the best at 5.0 (with a 12-1 singles record). If the USTA is going to designate "everyone better than 4.5" as a 5.0 it gives credibility to those claiming the right to tank to play where they feel competitive. The argument that those players should, instead, practice more so that they can compete with guys like Loren Collins is laughable.

    1. No shit, I can't practice that much.

    2. I could practice that much and it still wouldn't matter

    3. Jooste would easily handle Loren. This Dallas team is every bit as strong as Oscar's National Runner up team.

    4. This team is probably stronger.

  3. look out for Alzuro. He has a way of sneaking up on people. Another scary team would be the sisk team stocked w teterud and kelley. if he actually gives a damn they will just need to win 2 of the other 4 lines. They could be a cinderella story. Big John has a way of motivating kelly at tri and combo (undefeated), lets see if he can do same in league.

  4. alzero playing on a 4.5 team?

  5. Teterud and Alzuro should be playing 3.5......end of story.

    1. One has a 5.0+ serve and the other practices and beats 4.5s all the time. Those losses at 3.5 playoffs were just tanking.

    2. Nice try Alzuro, but your not a 4.5, not even close

  6. Rene ain't got time to practice. He's too busy petitioning USTA to create a 4.0 Mixed League so he can captain another team all the way to Nationals!!

    2. He told me his 40s team was definitely going.

  7. I'm calling Rossouw to beat Reiman.

  8. going to be interesting when Alzuro plays kelley in singles. Rumor is alzuro been practicing for this match for two years after kellley beat him in mixed alzero and alzero (0 and 0) two years ago in about 20 minutes.

  9. Agree, alzuro has improved quite a bit and will catch Kelley sleeping. Vegas right now has Alsureo as the favorite in a breaker

  10. When was the last time a Dallas team of any kind (Mens women's or mixed) won nationals?

  11. 3.5 40s won a couple of years ago.

    3. Tri-level has the single best nationals event around. If you can only get to one, that's the one. It is amazing.

    4. yes, and king kelley and Thickett has been there and won it all. Pretty damned impressive.

  14. SP about to head to nationals AGAIN in 40's and 18's. lets wish them well as Alan A. continues his mixed dynasty. Now bash away.

  15. Looks like a race back to 4.0 between Somabut and Sisk's 4.5 teams. Both took second ass whooping in a row, check the results and let us know what you think. The dynamic duo at single for Sisk of M. Kelly and P. Teterud led the way for Sisk...

    1. CARLOS AGUILAR AND JORGE AGUILAR REALLY OUT OF LEVEL!!

      Delete
    2. 3.5s that didn't win a match last year. Not even sure why they are on the roster.

      Delete
    3. Carlos Aguilar couldn't win a match at 4.0 last year, but then figured out how to win some OPEN matches in the Cotton Bowl and Bent Tree tourneys, including beating Durten in doubles? What a joke.

      Delete
    4. Him and his Brother!!!

      Delete
    5. beating durten in doubles no big deal. kelley did it and also tried to keep score close. letting those guys play at 3.5 and allowing that bs is absolutely incomprehensible. Makes kelley look like an altar boy, at least he tries 50 percent of the time. The brothers aguilar played LEfT HANDED last year.

    6. how could sisk take second ass whippin in a row, he has only played one match. get ur facts straight before u post!

    7. what results, the sisk/oak creek match not even posted yet

    8. See where Flora must have been upset by not getting to 3.5. He lost again. Maybe this year he can get it done.

    9. sisk/oak creek posted.. lost 5 really close matches

    10. Agree that Carlos is out of level. Saw him play yesterday. Don't know of any other 3.5s that are playing Line 1 in TCD Open A with a 4-2 record. After not winning a set in spring league at 4.0; He won Open Mixed Doubles at FW MZ in July and Adult Sectionals at Mens Open Doubles in September. Won the only match played at the Masters and a couple of wins in Cotton Bowl.

    12. So good that you needed to say that twice?

      Delete
    13. Alzuro could do that. He's a 3.5.

  16. Wow those are interesting results. Do captains like Erbe know they are talking in the spring? Can we set up a tank only time of the year, it has now spreading from fall to spring. what league is sacred? Combo, mixed? Yikes I hate those but sounds like I better learn to like them

  17. Did Greg Ohl have a complete change of heart? He and his guys complained mercilessly about the tankers and cheaters and Mike Zackery being one of them. Looks like he only complains about players he can't get to play for him because now Zackery is on Ohl's team.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I heard Zackery was playing for Tony Le. What happened? Did he hear Ohl has bigger ringers? Should be a good match this week. Ohl is hiding a few!

    1. Why isn't Zackry playing for Le. He'd be best player for Le

      Delete
    2. I heard Le turn Zackry down..

      Delete
    3. zackary wouldn't be in the top 5 singles players for le. Only way Ohl wins that is if the two Aguilar brothers play left handed like they did to get their 3.5 rating.

      Delete
    4. let it go Zak, we know you are 3;55 and 4;10 poster

      Delete
    5. Zackery is just mad he didn't get on Tony Le's team.

      Delete
    6. its all for fun! Doesn't matter what team I play for!!
      Mike Zackary

      Delete
    7. see, can't we all just have zakry's attitude and just play and have fun whether we win or not.

      Delete
    8. So that's why Zackery was all over the blog today getting this started? Ohl said Zackery was one of the biggest cheaters in town and he'd never take a guy like that on his team. Guess you'll only take him when he says yes.

      Delete
    9. If Zackary is truly playing "just for fun", why spend so much time tanking matches to stay at 4.0?? Just another little girl playing out of level.

      Delete
    10. He sure as hell ain't a 4.5.

      Delete
    11. Zackary is solid 4.5

      Delete
    12. He'll get a chance to prove it this week.

  20. Rene's team loses the opening match in 3.5 (2-3) to Glenn eagles and will need someone to turn around their fortunes if they wish to make it to sectionals.

    1. Looks like he got a 3.5 singles player Rohan Nilekani to sign up just in time. They guy won San Angelo major zone and hasn't lost this year. Rene would have won the match if his guy was in town to play.

  21. we lose one match and you pegged us as done? hmmm. I guarantee our team wins the flight.

  23. Good to see Teterud rolling in 4.5. He even got more games than Kelley. I guess Kelley lost it or is wanting to get down to 4.0.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Teterud doesn't tank he's just good at practice when it means nothing. Just ask him.
