Another week and not much to report

The weather is definitely limiting the playing time.  The indoor facilities are the only ones getting matches in.

4.5

In Flight A only 1 match was played and in a small surprise, LB Houston beat Brookhaven.  Tridib has a quite a few mediocre 4.5s so this is not the best BH team.  This week has Greenhill playing T-Bar.  T-Bar has added some strong players and should make this interesting.  I like Greenhill to win 3-2.

In Flight B only 1 match was played.  Brookhaven/Harllee beat a good Oak Creek/Loose team.  That was not a surprise but beating them 5-0 is pretty dominant.  In the MOW here, we have JCC/Reiman taking on OC/Loose.  I think this buries Oak Creek and they are likely out of the playoff picture.

4.0

In Flight A, the only match played had McKinney/Peterson-Frick beating a solid Brookhaven/Tarangioli 4-1.  I couldn't find an obvious match of the week here but I choose Brookhaven v Huffhines.

In Flight B, Greenhill/Ohl beat T-Bar/Craig.  Once again, I couldn't find an obvious MOW so I am going with Springpark v McKinney.

Next week should be more interesting when we have more results and some better matchups.  For this week, it is all about T-Bar versus Greenhill.  I like Greenhill 3-2 but not a lock.

  1. Tough to predict any of these matches until you know the lineups. Rosters tell one story, but those actually playing tell the real story.

  2. Actually playing vs. tanking?

  3. Maybe 5% of players tank in leagues where nationals is a possibility. The fall season is definitely a tankfest, 40s and spring not really. All the tank talk can wait for next fall.

    1. That's probably right. Of course if you didn't get on the team you wanted or were bumped up at year end to a level where you are worthless, you have nothing left to do but post here.

  4. If there's a message, and there usually isn't, it's gotta be that every other post being about tanking is a waste of time. I'm not in favor of it but 5:41 is another example of the I'm gonna explain this in a manner you've never heard it before and you'll marvel at how brilliant my truths are. Are you new to this blog? Every other post says the same thing. The message here is have an original thought and post that.

  5. Tbar 3-2 win. Tom Bartzen is a sure win and remaining matches will be close.

    1. I think it depends on who is available. This is probably the match of the season.

    2. Sweeney wins 4-1 and Rich didn't play. Bartzen lost in doubles. Bartzen wins that singles match.

    3. Doesn't matter, the best T-Bar does is lose 2-3.

  7. Mr. 2:46 pm 1/19: please explain how the system is set up to "support tanking". That way, whatever point you are trying to make might be taken more seriously. As it is, you have no credibility with your name-calling. Just ask your mom tonight when she is doing your laundry why you should not use bad words on the Internet.

  8. Many people have tried to change the system.

  9. I think that what 1/19, 2:46 is trying to say is that league survival depends on people that are in it to play at the level they best fit in. Have to agree. Would rather have a league to play in than not have any players. Most of the people complaining on here aren't progressing past local league no matter what anyway.

    1. Agree that the concept of tanking is essentially necessary but most any player if they try hard enough can get to playoffs and probably advance.

    2. That's a tough one. I've seen some outstanding players who have never made even city playoffs because they play on sub-par teams. And we've all seen below average players who go to the playoffs all the time because they've taken getting onto the right team to an art form. There's more than a little luck for any individual player to advance very far.

    3. I love the subpar player that gets the art of getting on a good team. That person is always the one that thinks everyone plays too.

    4. I paid the same league fee everyone else paid. Why can't I play as often?

    5. Are we giving participation ribbons now?

    6. I'd like one of those too

    7. We used to get a single wrist band. Instead the DTA uses the savings to put themselves up in that palace.

  10. Rueben Muniz has mastered the art of being a sub par player making it on very good teams.
