Cotton Bowl Is Coming

For any of you who have never gone out to watch any of the Open draw, there is some high level tennis going on.  In years past the Open draws have been well represented by members of the UT, SMU, TCU, Baylor and LSU tennis teams, most sporting their school uniforms or colors so they are easy to spot.  At the same time, the Brookhaven pros have done well too.  It’s always fun to watch these huge hitting college kids play a few of the cagey veterans.  UT has been doing well in recent years, but this year a TCU player is the #1 seed on the men’s singles side and, coupled with an OSU player who is seeded #2 in singles, form the #1 seed in doubles.  I recommend going out and watching some early matchups if you have the time.  You’ll even see some of Dallas’ 4.5/5.0 teams giving it a go in Open doubles.  Always interesting to see how they hold up.

My 4.5 boys are showing up for the CB with a nice size singles draw.  I'll be curious to see how the seeds make out.  In the ‘I wonder how these matchups were drawn out the hat’ category, I would only note that Durten and Reiman as the #3 seeds play Kelly and Adcock in the first round.

And don’t turn up your nose at mixed until you check out some of these girls in Open or 4.5 mixed.  I wouldn’t want to have to play them.

All in all, the CB is well run and well attended.  For you tennis junkies who have a little free time during the holidays I recommend a stop by early when you can get an up close and personal look at some of these players in the barn before they move them indoors where visibility is limited.

  1. I either had a horrible nightmare, or I saw that Rene Alzuro is playing 4.5 men's doubles in the Cotton Bowl. *shudder*

    1. And he's playing with a 3.5 bump up. Too bad they don't charge entry fees by the hour. They probably could have played for free.

    2. Down goes Kelly. That should cement Kelly at 3.5.

    3. Kelley, like all his other matches that don't count, will somehow keep it close but just barely lose out in the end. He has a terrible streak of luck.

  2. Some of the draws were manipulated. Period. End of story.

    1. Kelly gets Durten and Reiman first in doubles and gets Jason Moore first in mixed. That sounds random.

    2. How else would you expect the DTA to treat him??? They know he will be one and done. This is the same guy that has skipped 3 national events and two sectionals!!

      Delete
  3. No problem, I have my tin foil hat. The DTA can't see me this way.

  4. Will Kelly have his normal drama and pick a fight with his opponents? Why is the kid so ANGER at life?

  5. Would the Kelly or his gay lover sycophant stop the incessant mutual masturbation. He is not that relevant. If he wins the Cotton Bowl acknowledge it otherwise, who cares?

    1. I'll stop if you stop

    2. I'll take it you are the gay lover.

  6. How about some picks for the Cotton Bowl at 4.0 and 4.5

    1. I'll take Newman and Voss in 4.0 doubles. No one of note is playing 4.0 singles.

      Delete
    2. 4.0 mixed is more interesting. Alan A, Huff and Zackary all in the bottom half. One of them would probably win the 4.0 singles if all three were playing in it.

      Delete
    3. I'll take Kingsley and Branch to win 4.5

      Delete
    4. I'll take the field over Kingsley and Branch.

  7. I pick Kelley to lose big.... Again.

  8. I agree. Had the DTA not put Kelly against two 5.0's in mixed and men's I would say he might try to win a round but they are testing him to see if the rat takes the bait. He will keep both close but falter at the end like usual.

  9. FYI be sure to check starting times again as some have changed.

  10. Kelley, you know play at Samuell Grand at 3 am.
    Sincerely,
    DTA

  11. Teterud/Gerber will win 4.0.

    1. They play Hutchison/Bowman in the first round. That's pretty early for an epic choke but here it comes.

    2. The choke is strong in those 4.

    1. No way, Alzuro/Wendelken will win 4.5 doubles.

      Delete
    2. Of course. Not sure how anyone missed that.

      Delete
    3. Would love to see Alzero draw Kelley first round. Kelly lets him win and Alzero gets bumped to 5,0. Ha

      Delete
    4. Missed on the Alzuro Wendelken pick. Thought that was easy money. They must be tanking to manage their rating.

  13. At least they have the balls to play up, unlike a lot of folks.

    1. Big difference between having balls, and being delusional. Rene, bless his heart, isn't competitive at 4.0.

      Delete
    2. It doesn't take balls to play up. You are just wasting the other guy's time

      Delete
  14. How can Durten play 4.5, tennis link says he is 5.0? Also Moore 5.0? I thought ratings out before tourney

    ReplyDelete
  15. Ratings are by calendar year

    ReplyDelete
  16. Forecast not favorable! Only seeded players will play, all others stay home and we got your money! THANK YOU!
    DTA

    ReplyDelete
  17. And if we don't like you we will manipulate your rating as well.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. no need for DTA to do that. Players do that well enough for themselves.

    2. Daily double prediction!
Teterud/gerber win in 3... Rieman/Durten beat a lifeless Kelley and 60 year old Adcock in two.

      Delete
    3. Need to pick it up. Still auditioning for 40s teams.

      Delete
    4. I ain't 60 yet, just 59. And I still have one good hip!

      Delete
    5. I pick Adcock/Kelly over Reiman/Durten in 3. Kelly reads the blog, and now is fired up. Adcock is solid enough not to get picked on.

      Delete
    6. Fired up not the problem. Trying to figure if he even wants to win is the issue. If he does the match won't even go 3.

      Delete
  18. You would think but after talking to Kelley at tri level in November he is not playing 40's. He def would help any team out as its like having another 5.0.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. More likely that was Gerber and Teterud auditioning

      Delete
  19. Gerberud actually a solid 4.5 team

    ReplyDelete
  20. Gerber and Teterud really? Talk about two over rated tennis players! If it was an ego contest they would win but since its tennis they are in big trouble. There is not way possible that they win the 4.0 draw. And I second the opinion of the pussy factor, two 4.5s playing in 4.0, some people will do anything for a stupid $4 trophy.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Quit hating on us! Durten and Moore playing 4.5 as well and they were bumped! Same thing.

    1. It's ok. No one is worried about you winning it

      Delete
  22. I saw the match. Tetarud is clearly still a 3.5 regardless of his rating. Gerber is a solid 4.5 most of the time. They won't win their next match if their opponents hit to Tetarud.

    1. Who the hell is Tetherball? Seriously, I've never heard of either guy and we are acting like they will win something. If they are any good, Rossouw will get them.

      Delete
  23. Kelley should be barred from tourney .he hit two balls left handed and acted like it was funny. It was so ridiculous I left after they lost first set. I love it!!!

    ReplyDelete
  24. Gerber and Teterud made Leonard and Bowman look like two schoolgirls. Ratings don't lie .

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Not sure how he did it but Kelley took over the second and third set. He has another gear when needed. Pretty fun to watch. I will admit I wanted to see him go postal but the guy can play when pushed.

      Delete
  25. Unfortunately, Kelly has game and cam back to win in a comeman. Very close match and def trying out there

    ReplyDelete

    1. I concur. The guy has game. It is uncanny how he turns on a switch and plays for real. Damn solid and very smart doubles player

      Delete
    2. Kelly not that hard to beat. You just have to pressure his serve and always be ready for a pussy lob

      Delete
  26. And Teterud is rolling in singles...choke on that!

    ReplyDelete
  27. Teterud was unconscious today!

    ReplyDelete
  28. I'm not familiar with some of these guys in 4.0 singles. Of the ones who are left, will any of them be playing singles in city playoffs?

    ReplyDelete
  29. Kelley seems to always snatch victory just when he looks lifeless. Uncanny ability to pull the rabbit out of the hat.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I was watching the match and Kelly did have some very timely poor calls. Durten and Reiman handled it well, but it stopped the momentum and cost them the match. The match came down to a few points, and it was very close. I think Dallas just wishes the biggest a hole in Dallas didnt have game.

    ReplyDelete
  31. He can do it because of his childish games bothers his opponents

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I was there as well and there were timely calls from his opponents as well. He handled it w no issues. He dominated the last half of second set and breaker. I have been reading about him for years on blog. I now see this guy has definite skills. He is money come crunch time and very athletic.

      Delete
    2. If you are the 5,0 on the court momentum stoppers are an excuse. Pure and simple Kelley best player on the court by far. This guy doesn't win 99 percent of his matches by accident.

      Delete
    3. Is this Kelly again. Loves to write about himself. He has game but a total tool. Let's see if he can last longer than one great match.

  32. Must have lost to him11:47

    1. not sure if 11:47 has lost to him but I haven't and I can't stand reading about him. If it isn't Mike Kelly posting about himself; Mike has some serious stalker. Like most, I assume it is him.

  33. It's him. This is his life. Will be interested if he will keep it going for whole tourney.

    1. Answer is nope. He got the win he wanted. Played today like a 4.0....

      Delete
    2. As a casual observer along w 4o other people he was for some reason worst player on the court. No hooking, no energy and not arguing. Very strange.

      Delete
  34. BS! That is Kelly bloging again about himself. The reality is he is a top 4.5/low end 5.0 and will lose or have very close matches with the same type of player. There about 25 in Dallas alone. In mixed he will dominate because of his unusual game and silliness with the ladies. If you want to talk more about Kelly I suggest you start mixed blog. No more talk on him especially if you are talking about yourself, Kelly

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I agree with everything you said except he is a low end to mediocre 5.0. He and Adcock lost because Adcock is not as good as the other three.

      Delete
  35. Tom is a very solid 4.5 but not good enough for 5.0. He went 15-3 in 2014 at 4.5. Gets a lot back plays percentage tennis without any weapons. The other guys are a step higher top 4.5/low end 5.0. We all wish Kelly would just let his tennis do the talking and no games. He is a clown

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Tom is a nice guy and player, but with all due respect this blog is about MK.

      Delete
  36. MK stop writing about yourself. It is really annoying!

    ReplyDelete
  37. What happened to the Gerb/Teturd team, looks as if they didnt evem make it to the finals. Predicting 4.0 tennis is just to hard to do these days!

    ReplyDelete
  38. Had never seen nor met Teterud, but caught some points from one of his doubles matches over the weekend and my goodness - he's a total "spaz" on court. Aimlessly flying around, hitting spastic shots. Weird looking game.

    1. Always drama with Marty.

    2. I was there Tim Williams says "ouu" then it landed in so he hit it and said play it plqy it. Marty missed the shot and asked for a redo. The other team said no qand Tim took the point,

  40. Congrats to Todd for winning the 4.5, beating 4 5.0s along the way.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I think Marty hero is MK. Kelly has much more game then heavy d Marty will ever have. I heard he has a poster of Kelly on his wall and talks to it before every match. I know the blog would suck, but why do people play with these tools. Just a waste of everyone's time.

  42. Looks like several recent bump ups didn't fair to well at the cotton bowl lower divisions. Mens 3.5 seemed competitive and some surprises at 4.

    1. Most of the 4.0 was 3.5 bump ups from this year or last. The final four was pretty good though.

  44. just some final observations about the cotton bowl. best match that i observed was the men's 4.5 singles final between t. feldman and j. moore! biggest tank job L. hutchison first round 6-2, 6-3 loss in 4.0 singles then a straight set loss in consolation singles, coupled with a first round loss in 4.0 doubs 6-2,6-1 looks like he is on the quest to join wiley at 3.5... best overall tournament goes to j. moore runner up in mens 4.5 singles (lost in 3rd set) and winner in 4.5 mixed with t. ware, nice job jason! anybody else with any thoughts? let me hear from ya.
