40s Rosters are now past due...

The rosters were due and if you didn't have 8 by last Friday, the DTA said you would be cut and no refunds.  Well, we are past Friday and there are a number of rosters without 8 players.

In 4.5, the best rosters are Rossouw and Sweeney followed by Brookhaven.  Sweeney has Travis Rich at 5.0 and Rossouw has himself and Brandon Myers.  Sweeney can still add another and I suspect Rich and 5.0 TBD will be better.  No knock on Marc and Brandon but they are not at the level of Rich.  Add Gene Davis to the roster who is a 5.0 with a 4.5 rating and you have to like this team.  It is early and rosters can change.

In 4.0, Fretz/Clark is probably the best roster.  They look to have a lot of bumpdowns.  Canyon Creek appears to have taken a step back.  The McKinney/Peterson-Frick team has the same guys who haven't been able to get it done the last few years.

In 3.5. I don't know anything.  All I notice is there aren't many teams.

One thing of note, Austin got to play with mid-season ratings.  Therefore, they don't have to deal with the large number of bump ups.  This puts Austin at a decided advantage.  I was told by a friend of a friend of a friend... that the reason we went to year end ratings is because Austin said there would be no more mid-season leagues without showing good cause...  Hmmm...  In the end, this is probably for naught as Austin should be loaded at 40s and this is playing for second place.

  1. Since I posted this, Carlos Correia signed up on Sweeney's team I was expecting it to be him but hated to jump the gun if Sweeney found someone else.

    1. I think it is the DTA's decision to screw us.

    2. This isn't true, us women use mid-season ratings.

  4. No way Rossouw is top 2.

Mezzour / Braga start Brookhaven up 2-0 against them. Same with Bartzen and TBar if they add Talbot.

Rowssow's 4.5s aren't that deep either, his crew was decimated by bump-ups.

    I see it

    (1) Sweeney
    (2) T Bar
    (3) Harlee

Rossouw / Reiman / Goswami / Juhn pretty evenly matched for the 4th spot.

Austin has 6 guys with 2014 ye 5.0 ratings on their 2015 4.5 40+ team, all of which can play at the same time while Dallas is limited to 2. Sweeney would have a chance against them as he has a few 4.5 guys that should be rated 5.0 (Davis, Pollard and Feldman when he regains his form).

  5. Davis, pollard and Feldman nice players. Not 5.0's though

    1. They are as good, or better, than most of the 20+ 4.5 40+ guys that got bumped from 4.5 to 5.0 this year.

My point is that they are comparable to the 4 5.0s that are playing for Austin that just got bumped up.

    2. Austin can still take anyone that got bumped to 5.0 and play them as a 4.5 based on their mid-year rating

    3. Yes, and they have 4 such guys. But if Davis regains the form he had a few years back and Feldman from a couple of years ago I'd take them over the Austin 5.0s (not Brady and Dekruyff - I mean the bump ups).

  6. Which teams had less than 8 but were allowed to still participate?

    1. Think they said they would be removed if there were less than 8. Sounds like Murray just thought it was a ridiculous idea.

  7. Not really, I think teams from High Point, Canyon Creek, and Brookhaven all failed to meet the deadline but were still allowed a spot.

  8. 3.5 mens and 4.0 should be interesting as a good core of 3.5's were bumped to 4.0 who are actually to begin with 4.0 anyways. Some new blood in both divisions should make Men's 40's and 18 and older spring tennis interesting. Alot of 3.5 teams lost some good players and many teams are on the hunt for the next crop of 4.0 or 4.5's to play on their 3.5 teams. Happy hunting as we know Clark, Oakcreek and others will be.

    1. Neither of them even have a team in 3.5. This year's 3.5 will be historically bad.

    2. Canyon Creek won the fall and should roll in the spring.

    3. 3.5 mens CC got lucky due to weather to win over HP and other teams were left out. I think Dallas should form a super 3.5 team and roll on through to nationals.
Wonder what the top 3.5 men teams will be for spring 18 and over 3.5. Not many 40 and over 3.5 teams so who knows what time is going to happen here.

    4. That Super team would have to be all self rates. There isn't anybody to build a team around.

    5. Still with the 3.5? Everyone left is horrible.

    6. Really....well....I'm going to dominate 3.5 this spring... Thanks to the USTA bumping up my only competition. I wont need to announce who i am as my results will do all the talking!! CC is weak when I call Andy Roddick to come play line 2 for me and find a few juco kids to play from nearby colleges. i can cost on line 3 doubles. See you spring!!!

    7. Really, is there a dominate 3.5 left in metroplex? Plus, you weren't bumped, lol. I guess you must be doing drills at the senior center and don't forget to drink your ensure, we don't want you to break your hip on the vast 3.5ers.

    1. I see that team has four guys who were bumped to 4.5 at year end. Going 44-6 in Austin as well. Should be the team to beat at sectionals this year. Should be the team to beat at sectionals every year they get to keep playing with mid-year ratings.

    2. How do we expect to compete with that? If USTA Texas really told the DTA that we had to use year end ratings, they should stand up for the Dallas tennis community.

      Delete
    3. Usta didn't make anyone do anything. They have a standing policy that they don't like people playing with mid-year ratings but every city gets to decide for themselves. DTA is screwing Dallas teams again.

    4. The DTA is broke and Dallas teams winning cuts into their pay Brookhaven for some needy child program.

    5. There is some truth to that . Alan a mixed teams have cost them a fortune.

  10. We can't. Unless we have a super team and too much ego here for that. Speaking of that Why Kelley not signed up for over 40?

  11. U r kidding right?? No way he risks a 4.5 computer rating beating up on old men. Took him 3 years to get "C" rating back. It would be more likely hell would freeze over first or that he would be elected DTA president before he signs up for 40's.

    1. I still like Corey Langston for DTA President. Maybe Kelley can be head of NTRP for Dallas.

    2. I think he more than meets the prerequisites to qualify as one of the "old men" himself.

  17. It looks to me like Brookhaven Harley is the 4.5 team to beat. Good 5.0s and solid 4.5s.

  18. Teterud has been telling people he's a 4.5 for years. Why would he enter the cotton bowl as a 4.0?

  19. He is not the only one. Plenty of them in 4.5 draw as well. Btw, looking at those draws they were not done by a computer, they were done by hand while they all were sitting around laughing as to who plays who.
