State of the League

Well, another week is in the books and Mother's Day is over.  Why do we play on Mother's Day Weekend?

Not much happened this week other than everybody's favorite player had his matches DQ'd.  Contrary to the hopefuls, he was not made a 5.0.  The USTA modified the Move Up/Split Up rule and you can only have 3 Nationals players combine.  You can have more than three if an entire team moves up.  Kelly was the fourth with 3 bump-ups from a 40s league.  Until this week, I was unaware of that rule change.  It is a really stupid rule but it is what it is and "He that shall not be named" is without a team.

In other blog comment blabber, the Tony Le tank machine is suppose to be in full force.  When I look at the results, I am not seeing the over the top tanking that the comment folks are seeing.  Other than Tony getting blasted while playing with a 4.0, nothing looks overly suspicious.

Now for what really matters.  I prefer to talk about teams that are actually contending.  It is hard for me to get too much energy for teams that have zero chance of making the playoffs.

In Flight A, JCC is undefeated and Michael has amassed a very good team.  His additions of Kiron, Molina, Cambron and Williams are going to make them tough to beat.  They took out TBar 5-0.  That is a beatdown and I thought TBar would win this flight.  With the exception of Oak Creek, they don't have much left between now and the playoffs.

Flight B had Rossouw losing to Oak Creek/Sands.  That Sands lineup was not comprised of killers.  It was a solid lineup but the right 8 should have been able to beat them.  Brookhaven is still undefeated but the question of the former Superchamp that committed to college has to be a concern.  Is he clean and cleared to play or is he a DQ waiting to happen?  If he is cleared, BH is on their way to the playoffs.  If he is not, it is concerning because that 3-2 win over Rossouw turns.

Flight C has 5 team sitting with 3-1 records.  I still think it is Brookhaven's to win but every week that you aren't playing wither Sisk or Le, you have a tough match on your hand.

Hopefully I will have more motivation either next week or later this week.

  1. You know there are other leagues than 4.5. Just sayin'

    2. With 4.0 not playing last weekend it is a bit of a slow news week. Unless you count the non-dq of MK. Yes, the matches got reversed because he had to come off the team but it didn't actually have anything to do with him. Other than he was the 4th nationals player to sign up.

  2. If DTA and TTA does not DQ Carillo then they have changed precedence set by their own rules, complete joke, because he lied on self-rate form where it asks if committed to playing college

    ReplyDelete
  3. And it looks like the DQ has come down, good job DTA/TTA

    ReplyDelete
  4. Who had the balls to file the grievance? This is Todd Reed. The is no way the DTA would DQ a Crookhaven player.

    1. Brookhaven pulled this last year with the brother and he got bumped to 5.0 after the season. Glad to see they got caught this is just blatant

    2. Slow learners there. They got away with it already with little more than a slap on the hand. Why wouldn't they think they could get away with it again?

  5. Damn Rossouw has a big roster. 25 players for 8 matches. Are you serious?

    2. At least everyone gets to play once

    3. If they are lucky. I can't imagine why these people sign up. It isn't like Rossouw's team has ever won anything.

    4. On the plus side, with that many guys court fees for the season are only $4 per person

  6. Glad to see the USTA is finally sharing the success. I like the new move up split/up rule. With 18s, 40s. 55s, 65s, Mxd, Mxd 18s, Mxd 55s we can fairly share nationals. Good job USTA!

    1. Sorry Canyon Creeker you still will not win even with these new rules.

    2. For sure, it isn't like these Dallas winners are beating the Texas section anyway. Freeman owns our ass and we aren't just sending every team to nationals.

When the teams that beat our ass make it to nationals, they get theirs kicked. If Dallas is cheating, we sure aren't very good at it.

    3. I'm not from Canyon Creek. I'm just tired of the same captains getting the same sectionals trips. How can we get to nationals if we can't get to sectionals?

      Delete
    4. First of all, if you can't get to sectionals you SURE can't get to nationals. Dallas plays second fiddle to Houston these days. If you're playing second fiddle in Dallas you have ZERO shot at nationals. But kudos for figuring out what a lot of people haven't, it's the right captains who go to sectionals and they get the right people to be able to go. Why don't you go play for one of them?

      Delete
    5. Who are the right captains and I might just go play for them.

      Delete
    6. Sisk, Rossouw, Bender, Somabut, Pickett. It ain't hard look at the ones that have been there before. Look at your level and then look At the captains that have made it.

      Delete
    7. Not sure that's the best list but if you believe 1:54 it shouldn't be hard to figure out. Murray seemed to know when he posted his pimp nationals list. If you only want to go to sectionals that's easy. Just look on tennis link.

      Delete
    8. if you're 4.0 you should send tony le an email and get on his waiting list for next year

      Delete
    9. Hey 1:54, if you are tired of the same ones, I would ignore 4:20. I think 4:20 may be spending too much time in the 4:20sphere. Personally, I would move to Houston and talk to Freeman. He seems to have it figured out.

  7. Lots of naysayers here. Speaking of Nationals: Dallas just won 55 and over 9.0. 40 and over mixed placed second in 9.0. 40 and over 3.5 won nationals. Then there were several womens teams that did really well at Nats. Several other mens teams either lost in finals or semis of sectionals (and not to Houston). Sounds like Dallas is holding their own. Just may not be in your level.

    1. True, currently we excel in the second tier competitions. Our old guys can beat their old guys.

    2. Their captains definitely get the better young guys.

    3. In 5.0, Oscar's team represented Dallas well placing second at Nationals

  8. Hey, Murray. How about bringing back the old MOW? I'd vote for 4.5B with Brookhaven/Goswami versus Oak Creek/Sands and 4.0B with High Point/Somabut versus McKinney/Bazan. I'm taking Brookhaven to rebound with 8 legal players and High Point to roll. Hell, McKinney got beat by Lakewood.

    1. Bazan will play himself and lose 2-3. Again.

  9. Good news for my team, I am working this weekend, so we win 3-2????

  10. Teams that typically can't win anything better take advantage this year ( see CC AND HOOKHAVEN) because the break up rule will not be in force next year. This year the DTA and usta want everyone to win, next year dynasty teams will dominate, AGAIN. See Springpark. They have done all they can to keep unnamed player from dominating but looks like things will be back to normal next year. Kinda like field day in grade school, with these 3 person limits everyone has a chance. Good lesson for everyone, if you can't win break Kelly and company up... Lol!

    1. The new split up rule was developed to stop mixed super teams. They received too many complaints about 8.0 teams that had men and women who had also been to mixed at 3.5, 4.0 & 4.5. At the last minute they changed it to include all leagues without consulting the sections. It has caused havoc in the regular leagues and nationals is now considering revoking it or pulling it back to just apply to mixed. This was not a Dallas issue.

      Delete
    2. I am glad they did. Springpark and Kelly have dominated so long the only way to win around here was to break them up. Please give Hookhaven and canyon weak a chance too!!! Thanks USTA

      Delete
  11. Not sure if legal but I was told he was paid to play mixed on a FW team this season. If he gets his partner who he is 46-0 with that is one line that is a lock.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Seriously, now DeLaPaz is tanking? Unlike some of those guys Ryan is a solid 4.5. He'll be a real help next year at 4.0.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. This is ridiculous. DeLaPaz is a good 4.5 and he loses to a good 4.0 pretty bad. If you read the USTA, a full .5 will result in a likely 0&0 beatdown. Instead a 3&2 upset. Real believable Ryan.

      Delete
  13. That's Le's partner at 4.0 what did you expect.....

    ReplyDelete
  14. Our own Corey Noel looks to be working his way back to 4.5. Tony Le isn't our only tanker.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Pretty baseless accusation. He lost a close 3-setter. How is that tanking? And if it is, then he's a bad tanker, because a 3 set loss almost has no effect, even with Benjamin being a 4.5.

      Delete
    2. So losing 11-9 in the third set tiebreak is tanking? He had match point up 9-8 but their opponent hit a great drop shot which his partner couldn't get to. Corey is not tanking.

      Delete
    3. Wow I had a lot of people at that match I guess. Yeah that's also why I won my first match of the season against the team that just finished second in the nation in 5.0. That should help me get back to 4.5.

  15. Bazan losses again. Looks like he could have some tankers on his team. Not sure how else you explain a couple of those losses this weekend.

    1. If he doesn't screw up with that huge roster he should get another crack at QT

  16. Much to still be decided at 4.0. Early thoughts -
Flight A - HP/Somabut is one of only two teams in all of 4.0 putting up impressive numbers. Still the favorites for sectionals. Sisk is leading in the doing less with more category, seemingly content to take his QT bid from the fall. 4 others looking for last QT spot.
Flight B - don't think anyone comes out of here undefeated so 4 teams still in running. GH/Ohl putting up impressive numbers and takes flight. Likely QT bids to Fretz and Canyon Creek.
Flight C - TBar slips up to SP leaving Village/Gordon as the only undefeated team. But Village and TBar square off next match for the flight. I like TBar with Village and BH in QT.
Flight D - the oddest and weakest of flights. BH/Bartlett by default although the flight winner likely has two losses. SB in second but a huge weak rosters doesn't let them stay there. Fretz swept by GH this week but for a dq. No one here seems to really want it.

    1. Ohl is rolling. I think Greenhill has the best team. We've had some strong additions.

    2. Definitely looks like Somabut and Ohl are the two teams to beat but think HP should squeeze them out. Both to sectionals though.

  17. Nice work Sisk. Flora gets tanker of the week. Take a look if you want to see some top notch tanking.

    ReplyDelete

    1. By the time QT starts it will be interesting to see if Flora remembers how to win. Its been a year since he's beaten anyone. Headed back to 3.5???

      Delete
    2. That's right, now I remember! Flora 4.5+ superstar!!! He barely beats Klamecki in a 3 setter and Klamecki is 4.0, now flora needs to be Picketts 1s right????

      Delete
  18. It's a little early but May 31 at High Point tennis center will be the 4.5 match of the year. 4-16 Le versus 2-18 Sisk. Who can out tank the other???

    ReplyDelete
  19. Man I've never had people actually defend me on this blog. It's nice.

    ReplyDelete
  20. My tankers of the week (TOW) goes to T. Le, he keeps his streak alive with another straight set beat down at line 3. For those of you keeping track that makes his record 0-4 in the current spring season all straight set losses. Combine that with his stellar fall record of 0-5 all straight set losses in singles. So if only the great Tony Le can find somthing other than singles and or doubles he might get a win...

Tankers of the week runner ups goes to Glen Flora, Ryan DelaPaz, and the tandom of Newman and Voss. Keep it up guys you have a ways to go to catch Tony.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Flora, DeLaPaz and Newman and Voss had quality work this week. Yet, Tony's persistence definitley gives him the nod. Don't get too down on yourself guys, tony could get hurt and be relegated to making up scores... He wouldn't do that... oops, I forgot he has.

    2. Google tells me he played Div. III JUCO tennis at SUNY-Delhi in the early 2000's. In fact, he played in the NJCAA Div. III National Championships.

That's just bad captaining. Doesn't look like he even tried to hide him. Such a unique name too. Bound to get caught.

    3. Looks like he struck out to me. Maybe it was a fair play grievance, I don't know.

      Delete
    4. Looks like they have another guy that is questionable. Thomas Bauer used to be a pretty decent 4.5. I thought you had to rerate at the old level. Not sure how he got down to 4.0.

      Delete
    5. Yeah, from I can tell Bauer should have had to come back in at 4.5. If Bauer gets disqualified that would put Stonebriar at 5-0. Big move for them.

      Delete
    6. He was playing 5.0 in 2006 and 4.5 in 2007. Didn't play again until he self rated at 4.0 for this season. He should have said his last level was at 4.5 and he'd wouldn't be allowed to come in at 4.0. He's a DQ as soon as someone turns him in.

      Delete
    7. All of that, and they still would not be 1st in the flight (or second?). For shame.

      Delete
    8. Sisk will be happy as he is no longer doing less with more.

      Delete
    9. The fact that Stonebriar is even 4-1 just shows how lousy that flight is. They would not win 4 all season in the other flights.

      Delete
    10. yeah Bauer should be 4.5 minimum, he was a solid 4.5 until he got bumped to 5.0. Not sure how he came in at 4.0

    1. They now have 26 players for 8 matches. Where can I sign up?

  26. While perusing Tony Le's results I noticed that his match on May 10th vs. Village shows that his partner a Stephen W. Bennett is a DQ? Anybody know what the facts are regarding the DQ?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Same reason Mike Kelly got a DQ from Sisk's 4.5 team. Both teams had four people who went to nationals last year and the last person to register is the one who get's kicked off the island.

      Delete
  27. That rule is ridiculous, those 4 went to nationals at 4.0 not 4.5.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. It is ridiculous, which is why most of the sections are asking nationals to either change it back or loosen it up.

      Delete
    2. I thought if you moved up as a team, it was fine.

      Delete
    3. That is what I thought too. Can somebody clarify it?

      Delete
    4. you can move up as a team but only in the division that you advanced in (40s, 18s, etc.)

      Delete
  28. Bennett got dq'd on a fair play grievance. The Village complained because they didn't think he should be playing 4.5.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I heard that his own team turned it in as a fair play grievance. They don't think he should be playing 4.5 either.

      Delete
    2. Now that is funny.

  29. No one from the Village filed any type of grievance.

  30. No matches again this weekend. Biggest discussions points are about a guy who isn't playing and a few more guys who aren't trying. This has been a pretty uneventful season so far.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. This is a boring season. Nobody is any good and the most interesting things revolve around players who really can't win at 4.5 anyway that are tanking. Why would anyone care if Tony Le and his boys get down? They will make a deep run at sectionals and think they were so close again.
