Mid-Season Awards Voting

With not much going on at the moment and most leagues at the half-way point, let’s open up the forum for mid-season fan voting.  I started to pick my own winners but it’s accurately been pointed out that I have a 4.5 bias so you can pick your winners at whatever level you know best.  We’ve all seen it before and we all have an opinion or we wouldn’t be on this blog.  Now’s your opportunity.  Hopefully these are pretty self-explanatory.

We’re the best but no one seems to realize it
Former Major League Manager Chuck Lamar – The only thing that keeps this organization from being recognized as one of the finest in baseball is wins and losses at the major league level.

Biggest whiner
Former Bears coach Mike Ditka – What’s the difference between a three week old puppy and a sportswriter?  In six weeks the puppy stops whining.
Close but no cigar
Major League comedian Bob Uecker – I led the league in ‘Go get ‘em next time.’

Who, me bend the rules?
Former NFL coach Bill Cowher – We’re not attempting to circumcise the rules.

Great thinkers of our time
Former Yankee’s catcher Yogi Bera – Ninety percent of this game is half mental.

We really think we’re better than we are
Former Yankee’s catcher Yogi Bera – You wouldn’t have won if we’d beaten you.

    2. Never lost to him in the fall

    3. In the fall??? Realize this people-IF he is trying at 100% you will not beat him. I have seen him do that maybe 5 times. Otherwise, anyone can beat him at any time. You will not dictate who wins, he will. That is tough to do.

    4. I like my chances on clay. He won't challenge me at all, come get some, I'm in Paris right now.

    1. We just peak a little later. Just because the better players are tanking is irrelevant to the fact that the real champs are the fall winners.

    2. Good question, let's look at the fall-spring hangover. Results from fall playoffs compared to current spring standings.

      1. GTC/Sisk - currently 3-2, 6th in flight
      2. GH/Ohl - currently 5-0, 1st in flight
      3. SP/Femrite - now run by Mauldin, currently 2-3, 6th in flight
      4. BH/Bartlett - currently 4-1, 1st in flight
      5. Fretz/Jayaram - currently 3-2, 4th in flight
      6. TBar/Snow - currently 4-1, 2nd in flight
      7. Fretz/Clark - currently 5-0, 2nd in flight
      8. McK/Peterson - now run by Bazan, currently 3-2, 3rd in flight

GTC seems to have the biggest hangover but Greenhill has recovered nicely.

    3. So what about 4.5? They don't seem to have the hangover problem.

      1. JCC/Reiman - 4-0 (1st)
      2. GH/Rossouw - 3-1 (1st)
      3. BH/Harlee - 4-1 (1st)
      4. Village/Khaing - 4-1 (2nd)
      5. GTC/Sisk - 0-4 (9th)
      6. TBar/Essenberg - now Fikes, 3-2 (3rd)

    4. Essenberg and Fikes are not the same. Essenberg is TBar B team and Files is TBar A team.

  6. To earlier poster. I could and should have beaten Kelly many times. Fact is if you know how to play him you have a chance. I will admit I am 0-4 against him but they were close. This is the year to beat him bec he is off his game and slowly declining, to the point Pickett didn't even want him this year do he settled to sit out. His dominance is over. Happy memorial day!

    1. I'm 2-0 in the fall and lost 4&4 every time in the spring but never really challenged him in the playoffs. I almost had home twice. He had me down 5-1 both sets and I came back to 5-4 and just couldn't get that next game. I had the momentum. If I had just got off to a better start, he was mine.

  7. The only time I saw him play was when 10 of us traveled to Kingwood to see trilevel finals against at that time the dominant Chavez/Perez doubles team. There were at least 20 people wanting him to lose that match as it determined who went to Indian wells. I did not think he was very solid and frankly got lucky. Chavez and Perez played a horrible match or would have won most likely.

    1. You traveled to go watch a Tri-Level finals? You could drive to SMU/TCU/UT/OU/Baylor that weekend and see better tennis. Also, all of those are closer and have college chicks around.

  8. Kelly is now fallin off. He will not be the player he was. You basically blow off a year and try to come back? He will be old news and just an avg 4.5. He will NEVER win another national title at any level.

  9. how about culley playing great in singles and dubs at westwood. Justin Huffman as well.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Is this the same Culley that Kelly has beaten twice???..

    ReplyDelete
  11. That was doubles... Singles is a different game altogether. Singles is not Kelley's strength.

    1. By sheer fitness level, Kelly can sit back at the baseline and hit enough balls until Culley collapses. Advantage: MIKE KELLY.

    2. Well said. Kelly would beat him in singles like a rented mule. The the mule would complain about his rating.

  12. Hey Murray -

You forgot the Kim Kardashian category, "Hey, look at me - I am the limelight and center of attention. I can't go a day without someone saying something about me or me doing something to get my own attention."

Goes to none other than Mike Kelly.

    1. There are a number of candidates for that. Most of the High Point players and captains have huge egos.

    3. Everyone refuses to win so it might last all season

    4. Congrats to Le for beating Sisk's 4.5 team with only one line trying. When Welch/Crow beat DeLaPaz/Cuevas I think we've seen it all.

      Delete
    5. This is pathetic for even Tony Le. Was the match even played? I didn't think you could lose enough points to lose to those guys. That is top notch tanking.

      Delete
    6. There was no 4.5 match played at HP Saturday due to rain

      Delete
    7. Why am I not surprised? Rossouw and Myers are probably all over this. Who am I kidding? Le is not a threat to them so it is acceptable. I am sure Reed already knows, he told me they monitor this stuff. They are more than willing to let people pay their money and let them try it again the following year.

  15. 4.0 week in review
Flight A - HP has separated themselves from the pack; GTC has an automatic berth in QT; McKinney, Oak Creek & Huffines still in the mix for QT, probably Bazan
Flight B - Greenhill still rolling big; Fretz in QT with Canyon Creek
Flight C - Village separated themselves from the pack as well with an impressive win over TBar; TBar and Oak Creek in QT
Flight D - Brookhaven in good shape to take this flight; 4 teams tied with two losses; Huffines and Village should make QT

  16. I saw CC's 4.0 team had a recent DQ. I'd like to call them cheaters but I don't know anything about the guy and his results don't really look like he should be DQ'd.

    ReplyDelete

    1. He is one of several strange DQs this year. Bennett was a really stupid DQ. He was playing up and why playing up in 40s together is acceptable and playing up in 18s as a team is not makes no sense. Alzuro has a 3.5 get DQ'd. His results warrant it. Kelly... Well he had it coming. Sisk should have known better. Carrillo was a blatant self rate liar.

  18. Agreed, Kelly's DQ a no brainier. These other guys maybe. No one cares about tony le and his cast of tankers. They will beat no one, not even at a lower level. It is the tanker that can dominate at will that is the problem and there is no one better at his level than Kelly. He is treating this year as a time off period but next couple years look out. Everybody needs to win while they can. As far as ken retiring he was tired of the bs. He knew winning was the most important thing but as usual " just give every kid a medal "..ie break up the dynasty teams. Gives all the country clubbers and whiners a chance. See Brokehaven and Canyon weak.
