4.0
Bazan by far has the easier path to Sunday morning, and I actually would be surprised if he doesn’t make it. He starts off Friday morning playing QT-Laredo. From what I can tell from Tennislink, this is the only team from Laredo, and qualified by playing a team out of Wichita Falls 3 times over a 2-day period. That was all their whole season was comprised of. In addition, they only have 9 players on their roster. Laredo is a long way from Dallas, and wouldn’t be surprised if they are defaulting a line or two Friday morning, much less the rest of the weekend. Bazan steamrolls them.

Their next match is Waco who historically has not put
together that tough of a team. They won
their flight back in 2010, but outside of that, have typically ended up at the
bottom of flight play. While I wouldn’t
fully discount them, I think if Cary gets through Friday, I say his chances of
playing Sunday morning are looking good. The only caveat here is that their match is at
2 PM on Friday at the peak of the sun and a very hot time. But his guys should be well rested as Laredo
is just a warm-up.
Saturday morning is North Houston (NOHO), who my guess,
will be their toughest competition in flight play. However,
if they had any really good players, they would be playing for Freeman, so NOHO
is the city’s leftovers. Since it is a morning match and not too hot, I
think this favors Cary and give the edge to Dallas.
Their last match is Wild San Angelo. While it will be at the pinnacle of heat at
5:30 pm at LB Houston, it will be a cool down match and time to prepare for
Sunday morning.
What’s nice for Bazan, is misery for Tony Le as he faces
Houston right out of the gates Friday morning. His hope here is that all of
Freeman’s boys can’t make it first thing on Friday in Dallas, which might give
Tony an edge. I don’t know all of
Freeman’s players, but they had fairly easy wins in flight play, and the “grapevine”
reports that he has a fairly stacked team.
Given the struggles Tony’s super-team has had this past season, I think
he has a tough battle ahead of him. That
said, if he does pull off an up-set, his next toughest match in flight play won’t
be until the end of Saturday against NETX.
In between, he has the Valley and Wild NOHO, which he should easily
handle. NETX went undefeated in flight
play and looks solid on paper, so Tony can’t ease up here, unless he is already
out of it with a Houston loss.
Sunday morning I think you see Bazan facing off against
Fort Worth or Wild Austin, and Houston playing Austin on the other side of the
bracket. At that point, you need to come
out and root for our home team to help them get through to the finals and heckle
Freeman and squad.
4.5
Since this is so far out of my league, my insights are limited, but here you go.
What is bad luck for Tony at 4.0, appears to be good luck at 4.5. At least for flight play. His 4.5 team has NETX, Midland and NOHO of which I think Le easily gets out of his flight.
HOWEVER, and that is a BIG HOWEVER. Fort Worth sits on the opposing flight. Mind you, this really isn't a Fort Worth team, but rather another "Super-team" comprised mainly of Dallas ringers led by no other than Marc Roussouw himself. (No wonder why he has been so silent on this blog!) They appear to have tougher flight play with Austin in their flight. While I think Austin is tough and gives them a battle, I think Fort Worth pulls through.
This then leads to probably the most exciting match of the weekend, which should be Tony Le's Dallas 4.5 team vs. Rossouw's 4.5 team in the Semis. What a match. I won't even try to speculate on who takes this one, but it should be good, and maybe filled with a little drama?
The winner of this will most likely face another Freeman team in the Finals. Whoever wins, I hope a Dallas/Fort Worth team can take Freeman at 4.5, as I think Freeman will be walking away with the 4.0 title.
Regardless, best of luck to all of our Dallas teams!!

Disclosure: The
above is merely postulations and guess-work based on quick and rash analysis
from Tennislink and on biases from past years’ results of cities which are no
true indicators of future results. It is no way to be deemed accurate or relied upon for purposes of placing wagers or the like.
Le's team is in sectionals however despite not having played their entire top 8 in a single match this season including the playoffs. Can they get all of their top 8 out against Houston? Will that even make a difference?
ReplyDeleteThere are no ringers on Russo team, good players but no gingers
DeleteHouston 4.0 has a player, Ryan Reeves, who is currently playing college tennis. How is this allowed by USTA Texas?
ReplyDeleteFile a grievance. It needs to be done today
DeleteThe only loophole I could find was if Ryan is playing Jr. College Tennis and 26 years old or older. Not likely. If he doesn't fit that criteria he can not self rate as a 4.0.
ReplyDeleteThey will refuse to even look at a grievance once sectionals starts
ReplyDeleteHe has a computer rating. The only way he could be DQ'd would be if it could be proven that he lied when he originally self-rated. In 2012 he played on a 5.0 and 4.5 team. Both teams went 0-6. Looks like another player/captain playing the system.
ReplyDeleteHe obviously lied. He self rated in mid 2012 and had already verbally committed to Lindenwood by then. By September 2012 he was already playing in college matches. USTA Texas is too blind or scared to do anything.
DeleteHas anyone noticed that he played a college match on September 12, 2012 in St. Louis, MO as well as a USTA match on September 12, 2012 in Houston, TX?
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteTodd Reed is not doing anything about it.
ReplyDeleteHouston is cheating? The hell you say... Once again, Dallas gets out-sandbagged by Freeman.
ReplyDeleteThere is a difference between sand bagging and blatant cheating.
ReplyDeleteCare to tell us the proper amount of acceptable cheating?
DeleteRossouw will be saying wait til next year again after his team loses to Austin in the morning. Says a lot when you are too scared to play Dallas league.
ReplyDeletePredicting Dallas vs Houston final.
ummmmmm...................
Deletenice prediction...not...since FW went 2 and 0 this morning and didn't drop a line in either match.
DeleteWTF? Austin lost 6 lines all year in 13 league matches. How did FW beat them 5-0???
DeleteWe will do our best to represent this weekend. Looking forward to it.
ReplyDeleteGo for it Cary. Looks like an easy day tomorrow but you need your best guys there on Saturday.
DeleteFreeman up 3-0 against Tony Le.
ReplyDeleteNot a good day for Dallas. Tony's team lost 4-1 to Freeman, we just lost to Waco 4-1 as well. Just not enough 20 year old singles guys on our roster, we need to get some of those for the next trip.
ReplyDeleteDamn! Tony's so called super team got beat 4-1??? Weymer spanked in straight sets, and the "unbeatable" Glasgow/Arcaria smacked around at line three 4 and 1!!! That's just cray!!!
ReplyDeleteNow maybe everyone in Dallas will stop bitching about the tanking. Looks like other cities do it better.
ReplyDeleteI just want to know how Bazan's team almost lost to Laredo in the morning dropping both singles and nearly winning line 3 dubs in a 3rd set breaker.
ReplyDeleteAnd then Tony Le puts Stephen Bennett in at line 1 singles in the first match against Houston?? Really?? Were you really short that many guys. What, did Shreyas have to serve breakfast at a homeless shelter in the morning and couldn't make it?? Or did you guys drink too much Sake the night before.
What a wacky day.
I think Dallas has their work cut out for them in 4.5 against NOHO. NOHO beats NETX singles, which beat Dallas Singles. Hard to go and not get a singles line and expect your dubs to sweep all weekend.
ReplyDeleteNobody should be complaining about tanking. You can't win nationals without exploiting the rules. Every team and captain has the opportunity to do the same thing therefore its an even playing field. Its not easy to put together and keep together a team capable of making an impact at nationals. All respect to Freeman, Le, Sisk, Arcaria, and all those other captains who make it happen.
ReplyDeleteWhich of those made an impact at Nationals other than Freeman?
DeleteRespect? We should respect those because everybody has an opportunity to cheat?? Wallstreet bankers and managers who "exploit the rules" like Bernie Madoff we should respect?
ReplyDeleteI don't recall Arcaria ever "exploiting rules" and I don't ever recall Arcaria, Le or Sisk making an "impact" at Nationals.
I do know Feeman is a scum bag.
If you work within the rules to manipulate the system, its not cheating.
ReplyDeleteFreeman does a great job! He brings two top teams to sectionals, amazing work Jason!!
ReplyDeleteFt worth should do well as a lot of the big guns in Dallas took the year off. Freeman team is beatable and really weren't that strong in 4.5 local league. If ft worth had a certain singles player on the roster they would have a shot at winning nationals....
ReplyDeleteFW vs Houston in the 4.5 finals. Tough one to call.
ReplyDeleteHouston should win easily
ReplyDeleteNice prediction moron, given the match started at 7 am and was over by the time of your post.
DeleteDid FW WIN a line?
DeleteHouston won everything easily
ReplyDeleteThe heavy favorite Houston did not take 5.0. Dallas Tbar did.
ReplyDeleteThat's because Houston had all of their 5.0s playing 4.5 and 4.0 !! What a bunch of sand-bagging losers.
DeleteNow you realize why having ringers gets you to national , no ringers, no nationals
DeleteFW needed kelley
ReplyDeleteHouston rocks again!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteFW needed way more than Kelley.
ReplyDeleteUntil Dallas creates a 4.5+ fun league (or USTA stops counting Houston's 4.5+ fun league for ratings), Houston will always have a lot more good 5.0s with 4.5 ratings. I think this Houston team wins nationals if everybody makes the trip.
FW NEEDED 8 KELLEYS!
DeleteKelly was a real jerk today almost hitting the woman in a mixed match and toying w his opponents like he was bothered by being out there, hogging the court and drop shotting then lobbing. Play real tennis you jerk and play in a real league. I was told he missed the woman by a foot on a 200 mph overhead smash! He thinks he is a tough guy!... Come do that in men's you idiot and see what happens!
ReplyDeletei heard he killed a man once and ate a baby
DeleteTo 8:41
DeleteHe did do that in men's and dominated that too. Just go practice and get better.... Quit worrying about that guy!...give it a rest!
Wow, he dominates a mixed match ..... Like that is hard to do???!!!! Big deal
DeleteWhen he plays men's matches, he tends to dominate a lot of those too.
DeleteYou must be a teammate of his...standing up for this sandbagger.... Wished he would go away and move to the moon
DeleteBig freakin deal he dominates a men's match, when will the usta do something about the Freeman's and Kelley's of the league. It is a shame and joke these guys are playing at 4.5 level.... Nobody else gets to go to nationals bec of people like them!!!!
DeleteIt is possible you are not good enough to go to Nationals. Last I checked, Freeman still has not won a national title. This may be his year.
DeleteWho cares about winning it... I just wanna go one time.
DeleteYou can go and watch Freeman and company. Also, I care about winning it.
DeleteCongrats to all the teams competing this weekend! Le reaching the semis and Rossouw making it to the finals! A huge congrats to Freeman for taking two teams to Nationals! Bring the title home Houston! Sisk
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone else feel violated after Freeman's Prison abuse Sectionals treatment?
ReplyDeleteHats off to Houston they played great and great sportsmanship.. good guys..
ReplyDeleteMaybe its just me, but I dont get the point of having a roster with 25 players on it (Ft. Worth) and only play the same 8 players over 3 matches in sectionals. Why would the other 17 guys sign up for that team? The Dallas 4.5 team had 21 players and only played 10. Just seems like a lot of cheer leaders to me!
ReplyDeleteThe Ft Worth team played 20 different guys over the 5 matches....
DeleteI didnt see all the matches this past weekend but saw most of them and my MVP's from dallas area are as follows.
ReplyDeleteDallas 4.5
Perez
Chavez
Sam Huynh
Ft. Worth 4.5
Featherstone
Dallas 4.0 Le team
Newman 3-0
Kinson 2-0
Fonenenot 2-0
Teterud 1-0
Congrats to all the MVP's
Don't MVPs usually come from teams that win the event?
DeleteHaha funny. Is this supposed to be serious? Listing Teterude for one meaningless match, really??
DeleteThe guy was undefeated at QT, City an Sectionals. What else do you want?
DeleteHow obvious is it that Teterud did the above post. Teterud plays 1 singles match against the last place NeTx team and is an MVP? Very nice Teterud.
ReplyDeleteAlso it is obvious that it is Teterud in that he only list Le players.
What about Hsu and Justiss? What about Feldman at 4.5?
What about the 4.0 and 4.5 Houston teams. They won and loss as they saw fit.
DeleteSome of the cheerleaders should have been playing, that cost a few teams some wins.... Bottom line FW and DALLAS needed solid singles play and fell short of that... Oh well, there's always next year .....and the next, and the next.. And
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of cheerleaders, who was the Houston jackwagon that was so loud and obnoxious. You could hear him 100 yards away everytime a Houston opponent made an error.
ReplyDeleteBrad Beinart was the jackwagon
ReplyDeleteI can forgive Freeman for his cheating adn sandbagging antics but bringing that guy is over the line.
DeleteSome decent teams in this weekends' combo tournament......who makes the finals?
ReplyDeleteprob le or sisk
ReplyDeleteMy bet is on Freeman this weekend, he wins everything anyway. Which team is Teterud on?
ReplyDeleteSisk or Kingsley will roll in combo! Mostly based on there better than the rest 4.5s.
ReplyDeleteIn 8.5 Sisk team wins if Kelly is relatively healthy after surgery, anybody's guess if he is not back to form or rusty. In 7.5 will be Keith Clark team
DeleteKaiser and Sisk are easily the best.
DeleteBest teams worst players.
DeleteIn the 7.5 combo Keith Clark team is by far the best and should win easy but only if Keith dosent play Wiley... no offense Greg but... really?
ReplyDeleteWhen I talked to Wiley last, he said he wasn't playing for anyone. What changed his mind?
DeleteBill Kaiser has the best team. He has a mid-year 4.5 playing 3.5 for him. How's that for challenging Freeman on the roster antics?
DeleteSaw Kelley today at la fitness, unless he had an overnight miracle he will not be a factor. He could barely use the stair step machine... Lol
DeleteKeith Clark's team does not look very good.
DeleteClark's team DOES look very good.
DeleteNot sure why I am getting all this love. If you must know, Keith had players that bailed on him after committing. He was struggling to find replacements to fill out the roster. I said if he cannot find anyone, I would play. Everyone kept falling through.
DeleteAs for not playing me, Keith is kinda desperate so I get to play or he would have to default a line. I know who you are but not sure why you are trying to push my buttons.
Wiley
Sisk's 8.5 team is pretty much unbeatable!!!! Who will be runner up?!?
ReplyDeleteI guess we shouldn't even show up. We will go ahead and play the matches.
DeleteIf Sisk team healthy and they take it seriously they are favorites by a long shot .....Kingsley or Le could be runner up. Did Sisk win it last year?.
ReplyDeleteSisk is King of Combo
DeleteYeah - the Combo at Burger King, Whataburger, McDonalds, and Wendy's !!
DeleteKing of combo and King of the fall. Who cares about either?
DeleteWhy not care about something else....maybe you'd be better if you didn't sit on your ass every season but spring since you're implying thats the only time of year that counts for anyone. Most of us do this for fun and comradery and a little competition, why limit it to one season?
DeleteTable tennis clubs offer access to a popular and fun recreational sport, that is enjoyed by millions around the world. This is a sport that requires skill, patience, timing and outstanding .reflexes
ReplyDeleteWrong forum. Got to Dallas League Ping Pong blog.
DeleteStop complaining and if you guys can't win at your level then its time to get bumped down (which the system will do for you anyways).
ReplyDeleteMy betting order for 8.5:
ReplyDeleteLe
Sisk
Feldman
Kingsley
In 7.5:
Kaiser
Alzuro
Clark
Gardner
Way off on 7.5 No way Kaiser and Alzuro finish 1st and 2nd as they are in the same flight. Clark and Grossman will finish before Alzuro and Gardner.
ReplyDeleteAlzuro is a 4.5 with that 125 mph serve. He takes it all.
Delete3:36 the people playing?? Just a guess!
ReplyDeleteTrue, we still like to play tennis. Only one team per level makes it to nationals. In the end, this is about playing tennis.
DeleteIt all goes thru Freeman anyway! Who cares if you win DCC 5-0 and lose to him 4-1 or worse everytime! They should move sectionals to Houston until Dallas can show up! Jason could apply the money to Tucson trip!
ReplyDeleteBetter not move it, Dallas doesn't show up in our own city. Better not make us travel.
DeleteNot sure I agree w Freeman argument. He is winning by default. Just wasted an hour looking at tennislimk... Ouch. The ONE AND ONLY year Kelly played and took it serious was 2010. Ironically the Dallas team went to nationals. Seems no one cares to put a super team together again but when they do Dallas wins again. Funny the Houston blog has no bitching and whining about their players and just keeps winning.... Hmmmm
ReplyDeleteDallas did put a super team together. It was called Fort Worth and we still got smoked.
DeleteThat was a good team but not a super team
DeleteDallas players can't get along so they will never do welll.... We are family here in Houston
ReplyDeleteYeah, maybe a mob family. But the part about Dallas is true. Too many captains with big egos for no good reason. Dallas can't compete like that.
DeleteEveryone relax. Houston does a better job of moving 5.5 guys lower than dallas. As seen by 5.0 dalas win we can compete with anyone. Sometimes it is just matchups that get best of you.Ft worth played well we just were a few points away from changing outcome. Match was much closer than score. It is very tough getting out of texas section. That is why texas usually finishes in top 3 nationally when done.
ReplyDelete^^^this
DeleteI would agree. The 3 “Dallas” teams did really well at sectionals! JCC’s only loss was to Houston; High Pt had a very strong team and their only loss was to “Ft Worth” whose only loss was to Houston in the final.
ReplyDeleteEssentially the 3 Metroplex teams went 9&3 and we thrashed a very strong Austin team that lost in the finals last year….. Dallas win over a strong NoHo team was also impressive.
Over the past 11 years at 4.5 TX Sectionals Houston has won it 5 times, Dallas 3, Austin 1, San Antonio 1, Valley 1…. (Ft W = 0). Houston teams to the semis 9 times; Dallas 8; Austin 8; San Antonio 5 & Ft Worth 4
It has taken me a few days to recover from the intensity of the weekend and overcome some disappointment. This Ft Worth team was exceptionally strong and I believe that if this team had played in 2012 we would have won the TX section. This year’s Houston team is incredibly strong! I would be shocked if they are not contenders for the National title in October.
It is no secret that I am not a fan of the tanking and illegal self-rating that goes on. It is very prevalent in Houston. I do not think that those Hurricane teams are very popular down there due to those tactics. Maybe that’s what it takes to go to Nationals but if that is the case, I will likely never go and I am fine with that. We don’t need to reduce our standards and integrity to those levels. I know some of you disagree. I think it is cowardly and essentially bullying (which is what cowards do) to tank and illegally self-rate so as to beat up on lesser players. The usta has rating levels for a reason – otherwise we should all just play Open……. And just because other Cities and Sections do it DOES NOT make it right!
Be honest Marc, you have your own fair share of players on your roster that have been known to tank to get back to 4.5. You may not agree with it but you do not disagree so much that you won't take some of those players guilty of the same antics.
DeleteYou are a joke Marc, you have tankers on your team and you know it..... Spare us from your ignorance
DeleteThere is not a single self rate on the Houston 4.5 team and NOT ONE of those players tanked to get down to 4.5. That team is completely legit.
DeleteHow about the 4.0 team and who do you have working their way down for next year? I see Knutson is on his bi-annual slide.
DeleteHTown Hacker will never mention the 4.0 team because that is all they are is tankers and sand baggers. They have a current college player on their team in Ryan Reeves. One of their top 2 players tanked last year in Rossi. Tuyen has tanked for years along with Patton. Dornbos sand bagged at 3.5 last year. The list goes on an on with Houston 4.0.
DeleteCare to respond HH?
Here here, Marc. Very well said! I couldnt agree with your last paragraph more or said it better, you are dead on! If more people thought like you do the dallas tennis community would be much better off.
ReplyDeleteLol!!!!!! Yeah, right
DeleteRossouw, did you read the rating guide lines when you self rated at 3.5?? You had 5.0 level players on your spring roster, are you kidding me???
ReplyDeleteI see plenty of names that were 3.5 back in 2007/2008 that are 4.5 today. I guess you forget 3.5 in those days was the 4.0 of today. Stupid argument. As far as 5.0 bump downs, sure FT had a few. Houston had some 5.5 level players playing 4.5...thats what's cowardly.
DeleteYeah from above. I could list countless that were underrated then.
DeleteMost ridiculous BS rant ever posted....if we had of played this team in 2012 we would have won". Lol!!! Seriously????! If my aunt had balls she would be my uncle!!
ReplyDeleteRossouw should have only played one season at 3.5 once he knew he was out of level and go right to 4.5 if he is the altar boy he claims he is
ReplyDeleteNext year should be fun. Pickett getting the Asian connection back to 4.5. I just wonder if he play out of Dallas or ft worth.
ReplyDeleteSo the next City Championship is mixed. Does anyone care?
ReplyDeleteKelly cares about Mixed. In fact he appears to take it quite seriously. Abbruzzese (sp?) also appears to care about it. Dallas may actually get the better of Houston in mixed. I don't know anything about 7.0 or 9.0.
DeleteProblem is the Houston 3.5 women are really 4.5 talent and the Dallas women are true 3.5. It will be tough competing against a 10.0 team playing as an 8.0 team...
DeleteDallas has won national title in mixed and Houston has not...... Don't count them out but w Kelly playing after surgery it will be very difficult this year. 3 weeks after hernia surgery.... Wow. Takes 3-6 months to get back to normal.
DeleteI've played the SpringPark ladies. They are no 3.5's. One may be a 4.5. The others are solid 4.0's. I think Kelly has taught them how to tank. But, Oak Creek and Brookhaven 8.0 may have something to say about it. Don't count them out.
DeleteSpringpark going to nationals in Hawaii for 40 and over, rumor is they are not taking this season as serious....
DeleteRossouw and Htown Hacker both blowing smoke.
ReplyDeleteRossouw doesn't have the history but he had at least 1 blatant kelly/nguyen level tanker on that roster.
Hurricanes have waaaay too many years of blatant tank history to ever say this team is "legit" 4.5 rated players. And a quick look at a few players on this roster shows some "funny" 2012 scores. Not to mention the 2013 5.0 Hurricanes team was already prepping for next year.
I'm not aware of any funny 2012 scores. But I'm open-minded. Which ones are you referring to?
ReplyDeleteNot blowing smoke. I happen to think the 4.5 team is completely legit. Of course, some of those guys are not "true" 4.5's, but I don't know of any system manipulation that was done in order to get them to 4.5.

Not sure re Mussenden but I believe he is a college player but maybe he secured his 4.5 rating before that? A little questionable though....
only Odion Dibua, Steven Coyle & Raymond Martinez look legit 4.5s (although this research took me about 10min and I didn't look very hard...)
I sure am glad very few of these guys are over 40!
40 and over?... Who cares about that?... That is like the champions tour in the pros. The big names don't play and no one shows up
DeleteThat 6/7 match shows all 3 lines as 6-0, 6-0. Given the caliber of the losing players it's impossible to believe that's not system manipulation.
DeleteHow about any 4.0s manipulating the system? We are just as guilty but not as effective.
ReplyDeleteAgreed, that Houston team was very solid but legit. There were just not enough top notch players on Dsllas or ft worth team. No one had a go to guy that was a lock to win.....Russo should be happy, he doesn't mind losing when all his guys are legit 4.5's. He got his wish!
ReplyDeleteWe would have liked to win sectionals w your best tanker playing ( rhymes w Jelly) but we will take the win anyway.
ReplyDeleteHH - It's not difficult :/. Just check the guys that were 5.0 last year but happened to lose matches 60,60.
ReplyDeleteHtH is right. This is the first Jason Freeman team I remember that seems to be on the up and up. Sidney Jim is shady, but he was 4.5 before being on Freeman's team.
ReplyDeleteSo it's gotten so bad now that we just put speculation on the site. I'm officially done.
ReplyDeleteActually he was not. I don't like him but he was total class in that match.
ReplyDeleteI just witnessed a guy that was beaten down and tired come back and beat a VERY GOOD Kingsley combo team by dominating the second set and tiebreaker. I never ever want to see Kelley and 4.5 mentioned in the same sentence. That was absolutely pure grit and determination and not sure many 5.0 guys pull that match out. Unfreaking believable!!! Sisk should sit him down in finals!
ReplyDeletehow do type so well when mike kelly's balls are in your hands?
Delete1:15 I am confident you have not seen a lot of Dallas 5.0 lately. Lol
ReplyDeleteI have , they are 4.5's
ReplyDeleteHow hard is it for DTA to post scores?
ReplyDeleteBTW, finding scores is like a maze, when did it get so complicated?
Who won the combo events? They aren't posted.
ReplyDeleteEveryday is a GREAT day when any team Kelley is on does not win a combo final! So sorry for him... Maybe next year..
ReplyDeleteHe did all that was ask of him by winning every one of his matches and beating some damn good players. Congrats to all who played and good luck in Austin.
ReplyDeleteLe's 4.0's beat Sisk's 4.0's again except on line 1:
ReplyDelete#1 Doubles Sam T. Huynh
Craig E. Weymer
Vs. Michael D. Kelly
Matt L. Spellman
6-2 4-6 1-0
#2 Doubles Marcos G. Chavez
Andrew C. Kinson

Daniel J. Michael
6-3 6-2
#3 Doubles Jay J. Benjamin
Tim R. Newman
Vs. Seth L. Baker
Paul Kiron
2-6 6-3 1-0
I'd like to think the 4.5's also had some effect on the match.
DeleteNot sure what you mean by le's 4,0 beat Sisk 4..0's again?????.... Kelly's 4.0 didn't lose to Le's supposed all star weymer. They also played two fewer matches.... Totally ridiculous and DTA has made another joke out of combo
DeleteI was just presuming most everyone on the courts all weekend was at least a 4.5 effectively
ReplyDeleteSisk's 4.0's????? Or 4.0???? Lol
ReplyDeletewas a fun weekend. Thought we had it but Le guys gutted it out. We lost 23-21 in breaker to lose. Kelley played well even though hurting and Le guys great they always have smiles on their faces. Very nice to see. nice to mix with 4.0 guys. They were all very friendly.
ReplyDeletepk
Le had 3 matches sisk had 5 including a semi match sunday morning
ReplyDeleteDid Kelley lose his matches?.... HOPE SO!
ReplyDeleteSorry to dissapoint you... He won them all
DeleteTo 11:43
ReplyDeleteSpellman didn't lose a match for SISK....he won more matches than their team played...LOL!!!!!!
1:51
DeleteSPELLMAN did play great but Kelley may have had a part in it. He may suck in singles but he is 14-0 in combo last two years and 36-0 in mixed last two seasons..... Gawky numbers!
Who cares!!!! It's just combo and mixed.... Anyone who hits at the weaker partner can do that!... Big deal
DeleteWorst run combo tourney ever!!!
ReplyDeleteThe tournament was run just fine and Sheri did a great job. You just must be the dumbs**t that showed up an hour late for your semi-final match on Sunday and defaulted all of your lines. Lol !!! That's why Le only played 3 matches.
ReplyDeleteWho was that pissy guy at BH?
ReplyDeleteThink you are referring to Wayne Rigney, the guy who showed up an hour late for the semi-final match, then threw Walt's (the ref's phone over a roof and broke it) and then the cops came...interesting weekend.
DeleteIs that why the farmers branch cops showed up?. I thought the were arresting Kelly for impersonating a 4.5?
Deleteyes, that is why the cops where there
DeleteSomebody reportedly saw a 5.5 dressed in drag 4.5 Fila gear from
DeleteWinning nationals and playing for Sisk. As he slammed overhead after overhead into clubhouse parking lot he would break into bmws and Mercedes acting like he was looking for the ball. He was finally seen running thru the 18th green proclaiming "I will rule this sport too!!"... He was soon apprehended and sent to a mental hospital, sharing a ride along the way w cap'n Rigney and A-Rod.
Why did you show up an hour late if you didn't know you were in the semis? They don't have tennislink where you live?
ReplyDeleteYour job as a captain is to know these things. If you are fighting for your team, you would have known to check the other teams scores and know where you stood. The information sent out by DTA prior to matches clearly explained that a 2nd place team would go based on lines won, fewest sets lost, fewest games lost. You were 2-1 so you should have known you would be close to qualifying. You shouldn't have left the tennis center on Saturday without clarifying where you stood. Besides - why in the heck would you drive from Fort Worth and show up on Sunday if you didn't think you were in it?
ReplyDeleteDid the cops eat the last bagel?
ReplyDeleteThey ate the last doughnut, just before Sisk got to them.
DeleteEveryone knows Kelly ate that bagel.
DeleteHe doesn't eat bagels, he serves them up
DeleteThere must have been more than one pissy guy at BH. Sorry I missed the police incident because that is funny.
ReplyDeleteI never thought I would say this but:
ReplyDeleteI miss Jane Gilpin.
Even though things were done more manually, the information and coordination were first rate. It seems that now everything has a complexity that leads to errors.
Anyone else?
Well said, it is an absolute joke . We missed a playoff match, one team has TWO matches total, one team gets to the final w only playing two matches and freakin gets to play a team playing their fifth match???!!... That does not happen ANYWHERE but Dallas... Period
DeleteShouldn't blame tournament director for your oversights. Every other team knew they were playing and made it on time. And that being Sisk's team 5th match had NOTHING to do with their loss.....Period
DeleteIt is the limitation of Tennis Link and being able to set up flight play. For whatever reason, in order to have multiple flights that then takes the winner of the flight to play a semi-finale and final match, rosters have to be finalized and are treated as a Championship Result. If you look at anyone's record who played Combo this year, the combo results show up under "Championship Results" as opposed to having it under "Local League Results".
ReplyDeleteIn years where there was only one flight and just round robin play, the results are recorded under "Local League Results". Same holds true for tri-level tournaments, etc.
It is a quirky limitation of Tennis-Link and something you would think their programers could fix. That is why scores are so difficult to find and as one commenter posted "like going through a maze".

I wanted to see kingsleys doubles duo of arman kumdereli and s sudatshan play Sisk team... Is that OK with you?!
ReplyDeleteStill not sure how you justify not checking tennislink yourself. I was able to do it from my phone not long after completing matches on Saturday, and it was pretty obvious your team was supposed to play Sunday. Really not sure what maturity level you have to be at to destroy someone else's property.
ReplyDeleteHere is an account that I got from an Eye Witness to the Situation:
ReplyDelete"Yes, I was in the middle of this messed up situation.
The guys in the blog didn't realize our team did not know about the semi-final match, or else we'll be there on time. The texted to all captain the night before but got one digit off on Wayne's phone # so he never got it. Our team lost on Saturday, so the USTA ref told Wayne that we are out so he never bothered to check the website. Well, I checked the site 9:30 Sunday morning and informed Wayne immediately we made the wildcard spot. Of course, Wayne did his best to get a team together at the same time talking to the USTA ref at Brookhaven about the situation. They said to come out and they will allow the games to play due to the mix up. I know the other team's caption, Tony Le, and called him to ask to play late and he was fine with it. By ~ 10:45 am, we have 2 lines ready to play so the USTA ref assigned us the courts and told the team to start warming up to play. We though everything is fine and about to start, when the ref came running to told everyone to stop. He said Sherri, USTA director, told him to default the match. Wayne couldn't believe it and asked the ref to call Sherri using his phone so he can try to make sense into her. Well, he talked to her over 15-20 minutes trying to convince her it's not his fault and we have are ready to play, even the other team is OK with that. She will not budge, and so when the ref wants his phone back trying to yank the phone from Wayne, but Wayne insist to talk to her and the struggle send the phone over the fence. The ref got pissed and called the cops, which it was a waste of time. The cops came and they retrieve the phone for the ref, and that was it. But now the ref will submit to USTA to suspend Wayne for his behavior. But Wayne will also submit his disapproval of the whole situation as well. It was a big mess. If they would just default us up front, Wayne wouldn't have to cancel his flight and got 3 lines of guys to come out and never got to play. It ticked off everyone around. Of course, Le's team went into the final fresh and won the Combo tour."
revisionist history
DeleteNot sure what was more unfair.... Not letting the Rigney team play or Sisk team having to play 5 matches to the 3 of Le. What a total disaster, only in Texas does this happen. Le better be kissing the ground Sheri walks on bec if his team has to play 5 matches they lose in the finals.... Oh well, if this combo event had a nationals or was a recognized event this would have been colossal.
ReplyDeleteGive it a rest. It is not Tony's fault. Blame it on the guy incapable of interpreting tennis link. Sisk had enough players to rest.
DeleteNo kidding -- Give it up Rigney. This was the first tournament EVER that the tournament coordinator was kind enough to even send a text to the captains. Evidently your first event captaining as it is YOUR Responsibility to know where your team stands, not rely on a text message.
DeleteAnd for the guys defending Sisk's loss saying it was "unfair". Baker and Kiron only played in 3 matches, not 5. One extra match. Whoopie Doo. I didn't see Kiron making excuses for the lost saying he was too tired. He acknowledged he played good competition and had a great match.
You guys mouthing on the blog are the guys who sit on the sidelines. Ridiculous
Way to go Mike Kelly, 5-0 at combo is pretty impressive. However with the fall season right around the corner get ready for the annual fall tankfest, he will totally forget how to play tennis. Check his record at the end of the season.
ReplyDeleteTry 14-0 at combo. Won all 5 last year, all 4 at sectionals and all 5 again this year. Bet he goes o'fer in the fall. Probably resting his arm... Lol
DeleteRest?? Availability?? Le's team after 4 and sisk after 2 and no semi?? Equal? Lol.Ok! If sisk gets a wc, we'll see!!!!!¡
ReplyDeletePlay for 5k on Saturday after Kelly gets his stitches out, he'll win in straights!! Lol!
ReplyDeleteI was unaware that Ft. Worth was in the mountain time zone. If I was on this captain's team and that happened then I would tell everyone I knew to go play for another captain from now on. That is just stupid. NO EXUSES!!!
ReplyDeleteSherri really does an outstanding job. I wish TTA could be as competent as Sherri.
ReplyDeleteWhat are EXUSES?
ReplyDeletethey are kind of like excuses but you just don't c them...ba dum tis...sorry
DeleteThose are people who complain that their team was not notified of their match time.... R u kidding me???? Blaming the tourney official. Even the FB police were laughing when they arrived. What a fiasco!
ReplyDeleteI tell all my students that it is their own responsibility for knowing their playing dates/times and locations because the TD is not their mommy.

Hey Nick, Is it really true that as juniors at your academy that Mike Kelly used to dominate Andre A like he now dominates Dallas USTA matches (all except fall season)? Tell us how good he used to be as a jr.
ReplyDeleteThis is all we need to know about Mike Kelly as a junior: http://www.sitcomsonline.com/boards/attachment.php?attachmentid=169842&stc=1&d=1315625196
ReplyDeleteGeez, that is Mike Kelly. He is now all grown up and he is still hard on the Beaver.
DeleteWith his mad tennis skills, he should be able to get hard on a lot of beaver... but I played him in MXD and I can tell you my mixed partner hated him and was not giving up the beaver to him. In fairness, I bet Mike wanted no piece of her beaver... I don't play for a Lifetime team.
DeleteWho won 8.0 this weekend????please say Kelly lost!!!
ReplyDeleteWho won 8.0???? Hopefully Kelley lost?
