3.5 A Desert Wasteland

Now with the Fall playoffs behind us and Oak Creek securing a win, who is left to carry the torch for them? Oak Creek had their entire roster bumped to 4.0 except for one player, Thomas Mus. Will there be a 3.5 Oak Creek team to take the free-ride to the City Playoffs ? Based on the revised rules, a team must have 50% of their prior season roster sign up to guarantee them the City spot. If there is not enough eligible players available to field the 50%, then 70% of ELIGIBLE players need to sign up which will guarantee them a spot in the QT (not City). Based on this, Thomas Mus must be a coveted man as he is the only player that needs to be on the roster of a team, and that team will be guaranteed a spot in the Spring QT.

So who will Thomas Mus play for in the Spring, given that whatever team he plays on is guaranteed to play in the QT ?

Does anyone give a crap about 3.5 anymore given that there are few players left and most of the teams consistently making the playoffs are left with few if any players?

Will Oak Creek have a 3.5 team?

Will Fretz have a 3.5 team ?

Will Huffhines, Lifetime or Garland have a 3.5 team ?

The only team that is fully formed and has players to play would be Bender's 3.0 National team. Can he make another run at Nationals?? Does he try to recruit Mus ?? How much is he willing to pay ???

Discuss what's next for the 3.5 level (if there is any 3.5s left out there)................

  1. Kaiser will rule 3.5!!!

  2. Didn't Bender already embarass Kaiser once already?

  3. Gleneagles returns 15 players from a team which was 5-3 in the fall.

Oak Creek/Reader returns 12 players also 5-3 in the fall.

Brookhaven/Alzuro returns 15 players as well.

These three teams plus LTF/Kaiser will be the best 3.5 teams in 2010. They'll certainly be better than the 3.0 bump-ups.

  4. Sorry,

But with only 4 guys on my roster from the Fall, it is very doubtful I will captain a Spring team. I will most likely be playing on another team and taking the few players remaining from LTF.

Anyone know how to get in contact with Thomas Mus??!!

  5. So who are the top 3.5s left in Dallas? Looks like Dallas will struggle this coming year.

  6. The 3.5 level is dead! It's time to bump up to 4.0!

  7. Oak Creek / Reader will be the best 3.5 team in 2010.

They have Adam Mitchell who is the best returning singles player. (6-0 in fall). Also Mike Rich & Metin Duysak are a strong dbl team (with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Ratcliffe & Carr). Also expect them to pick up Craig Kotlarek - the best returning 3.5 dbl player by far.

With 12 returning players off a 5-3 team they will beat down all comers.

  8. One singles player and one strong dubs line isn't enough. They need to pick up about 4-5 more solid players if they plan to make it through City.

  9. Anon 4:24- I agree Oak Creek/Reader could be tough in a weak 3.5 arena, but you need to do better homework. Mitchell and Rich were both bumped up to 4.0 as well as their captain, Marvin Reader. They have a lot of returning players, but their best did get bumped up.

  10. The Dallas Zoo will by far be the best team in the Spring 3.5 league. They have 6 chimps at doubles, a cheetah and a turtle at singles. By far good enough lines to win every match in 3.5 next year!

  11. LOOKS LIKE KEITH CLARK & CHRIS JONES ARE PLAYING DOWN AT 3.5 DOUBLES IN THE COTTON BOWL. WHAT PUSSIES. THEY WANT ONE MORE CHANCE TO BEAT UP UP THE WATERED DOWN 3.5 GROUP.

WHY DONT YOU GUYS GROW A PAIR?

  12. The tournament still counts for 2009 rankings, nothing wrong with playing at the current level.

  13. I agree with that, although I don't know that Keith and Chris have played enough to care about year-end rankings.

  14. Kolarek will not be on Oak Creek 3.5 in the spring.

    The real question,
    Did Capt Fagtastic get bumped?

  15. Klamecki,

Good question. If Capt F got bumped, we'll be able to figure out exactly who he is. He'll only be 1 of about 30,000. Man, you're sharp.

  16. Hmmm.... Sorry to hear Craig has no interest, should I not bother talking to him then???

  17. Can we get a Pussy Alert thread started about the Cotton Bowl. I understand some people playing there old level but guys like Chris Jones were out of level already. And now with all the bump ups 3.5 is basically last years 3.0. I see Brian Studey is playing 4.0, who else is on pussy alert!

  18. Brookhaven might challenge in 2010. Bret Baker & Gary Schneider were 4-0 on dbls. Mike & Steve Shields are good players along with Rene Alzuro. Also since Milke was bumped to 4.0 they might pick up Chris Quina - a strong sgl player. That looks like a good core group.

And we are all really playing 3.25 in 2010. In the land of the blind, the one-eye guy wins the DCC!

  19. The talent level is so bad at 3.5 and 4.0 we can't even have a super team.

  20. add fankhauser to the list for the cotton bowl, he was actually showing up as a 4.5 and took the time to write in to the tourney director to play 4.0, really Matt? really?

  21. Level 3.5 --> Level 3.25

    Level 4.0 --> Level 3.75

    It's a New World

  22. Rossouw who's now a 4.5 is playing in the Cotton Bowl at the 4.0 level. Go figure.

Maybe you should have waited for the tournament organizers to finish making all their changes before you posted an ill informed statement like that......as I mentioned before, I signed up before the new ratings came out and emailed them to move me to the correct draw.

also, it's pretty hypocritical to call someone a pussy when you post as an Anon

  24. lots of 3.5 teams return 8 or more players from last year. sure the talent will be more diluted but it will hardly be a "desert wasteland" at 3.5.

expect to see some new team emerge and some old teams reload. 3.0 bump ups will have a better chance to do well in 2010 but wont dominate 3.5 by any means. expect some tight races & close competition.

  25. I know I have been away from 3.5 for a while but I do think wasteland is right. I think it pertains more to what we have known 3.5 to be in recent years. Most of the guys who have been in that league for 5+ years are gone and looks like they are never coming back.

I like the new ratings adjustments so I am sure their will be new blood arise.

    Good luck newbies.

  26. Bazan will be a 3.5 in no time.

    ReplyDelete
  27. with all the bump ups, guys like cary will be near the top of level 4.0

    ReplyDelete
  28. bazan i would not throw stones when you live in glass house. even with the bump ups, bazan has a chance to make it to 3.5.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Lay off the crack pipe would ya. Bazan could not beat the better 3.5s before, what makes you think he can beat them now that they are 4.0s?

    ReplyDelete
  30. That's a great vote for the blog. Even with all the bump ups, does Bazan still get bumped down to 3.5 next season? My vote is YES!

  31. Bring 'em on! We have our own 3.5 ringer: Bill Kaiser. The Bigbird will kick 3.5 butt this year.

  32. Big Bird is useless. I don't know which is bigger his flippers or his flapper.
