3.5 Week 3 in Review

Fretz redeems themselves leaving a bitter taste for the Boys of Huffhines.

With most of the rained out matches being made up, clarity begins to take form in some of the flights.

Flight A

No surprises here with Westlake and Garland still at the top of their flight undefeated. (I've seen this movie before.....wasn't it these two against each other last Fall??) Garland gets their win against High Point with a 3-2 victory, losing both singles and winning all 3 dubs. C'mon Big John. Not one singles win?? We know your hiding a ringer in that roster of yours somewhere. Also, Wiley plays against his old captain Patrick Jameson in line 1 dubs. I wonder what exchange of words were said during change overs ?!!

Westlake also gets their win with all 3 dubs and losing both singles. A potential weakness for Westlake?? .....we shall see.

Upcoming week: No exciting match ups this week in this flight.

Flight B

In the big match up of the week, Fretz redeems themselves and knocks off Huffhines in their first match. The loss comes with Huffhines losing all 3 of their dubs, a kink in their armour from last Spring. Fretz now stays in the hunt of this flight with a 2-1 record. High Point Entrekin leads the flight 3-0, (??? wow!!) followed closely by Gleneagles who now is looking pretty strong with wins over Fretz and Greenhill.

Upcoming week: Big match ups in this flight with undefeated Gleneagles playing HP and Huffhines playing Greenhill. More clarity will definitely be seen a week from now.

Flight C

Canyon Creek quickly falls from glory losing 0-5 in their make-up match against Oak Creek, and then falling 3-2 against Brookhaven, losing 2 3rd set tie-breaks. Oak Creek and Brookhaven are now 3-0 and pretty much seem to dominate this flight. Lifetime remains "Lifeless" with another loss and a 0-3 record.

Upcoming Week: Not as exciting as flight B with Oak Creek having a Bye, but perhaps the Brookhaven/Sam Grand match. Brookhaven should get this in dubs but may struggle with Sam Grand's singles lines.

There you have it guys. Blog away...........

  1. I overheard Jameson torturing Wiley with the offer of a box of twinkies but then not letting him have any. How low can you get!!

  2. Jimmy the Greek lives - Anon2 could make a living out of placing bets. So far for week 3 he's 8-2 and in 5 of the scores got the number of lines correct also.

So Anon2, who do you like in the game tonight, with the Cowboys giving 8 points?

    ReplyDelete
  3. That is pretty funny and other than Pat hiding the twinkies there was no tension. Pat and I have a good relationship. He and I have played alot of matches together and it was fun.

  4. Nice Job Captain Fantastic! Thanks Anon. To answer your question, I am surprised by such a large line and do not have an opinion, I do like the Under for the game.

9-1 if LTF had any heart left. LTF 0-3? All I can say is WOW! I know this team was not going to be a contender, but I did not see 0-3. Nice rebound Fretz.

    ReplyDelete
  5. LTF sucks in a bad way. Now it's easy to see how much the guys who got bumped carried the team as much as possible. It will be a miracle if those guys are not bumped down to 3.0 by years end. What happened to big mouth Kenny, and Kim Anderson at 0 & 3. Kaiser will be back were he started a couple years ago, captaining a 3.0 team were they may go 500 at best. LMFAO

    ReplyDelete
  6. Sisk lost both singles and still won. It could be the same as last year for him that he can field some good doubles lines but no singles. His guys were not beat by world beaters.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Kenny won his match at least.

    ReplyDelete
  8. We will see if Huffines has the same fate as LFT losing all those players to bump ups, Huffines 0-1. Still a ways to go to catch 0-3 LFT. Anons were right when they criticized LFT for not having any depth in the Spring, we can now see what their depth was all about. HAHA

    LFT Hater!!

    ReplyDelete
  9. Captain Fantastic, that is a damn good picture you got there of Grandpa Bitter Beer Face. Nice work.

    ReplyDelete
  10. That sure is Grandpa Bitter Face! He looked the same way when Huffines lost in sectionals.

    ReplyDelete
  11. You mean it is not Bill Kaiser? The city championships loss and the 0-3 loss has aged him and his bitter look is getting worse.

    ReplyDelete
  12. That picture has to be Kaiser since he is the beer drinker. The season is too early to judge many of the teams with all the bump-ups. Wait a couple of more weeks before making too many judgements.Garland is still favored to win the fall championships!!!! Westlake will fall when they play.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Nice Work Capt' Fantastic

    ReplyDelete
  14. Cpt.Fantastic,

Great work!!!!! Picked up where Marc left off. The season is early and have lots of tennis to play. The generation of 3.5's I've been accustomed to, have all been bumped up with the exception of a few that I'm familiar with. There will be some new household names emerging from the 3.5 ranks.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Come on Huffines. You have some good talent on your team.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Where's all the trash talking?? I'm certain we won't hear much from LTF given they are 0-3, but what about the other teams. Huffhines still seems to have a decent roster (and large enough with 18 players)along with many returning players. Ed, Mickey Carr, Larry Lipsie, Ed Jones, William Moore. Was this past week a fluke?? C,mon Ed, give us your insights. Is Fretz really a threat??

    ReplyDelete
  17. Fretz is for real! Dont worry about Garland, they will be there in the end.

I look for Hight Point to come back to the pack before the season is over.

As far as Lifetime is concerned, they are "done", I don think you will hear any trash talk cause they are 0-3 and all of there "trash talkers" and big egos have now been moved to 4.0 where from what I can tell from tennis link, none of them have anything to brag about! Most of them should be back in 3.5 before to long!

    Anon 3

    ReplyDelete
  18. Where is are all the LTFers? Kaiser, it's not like you to be shy.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Anon 3, why are you so jealous of the LTers? We can see right thru you. Are you one of 3.5 lifers?

    ReplyDelete
  20. sisk is hiding his singles players to keep them from getting bumped to the correct level. losing 2 sgl lines aga hi point??? come on. both hp singles players drunov & sutherland are avg at best.

    ReplyDelete
  21. After a few weeks of play only 1 for my Huffhines team it looks like Fretz,Gleneagles,High Point are the favorites at this time in our flight. Fretz win was no fluke their doubles teams were very strong!! Gleneagles and High Point play this Sunday for the top spot.Garland and Westlake are strong with Sisk's team the favorite. The suprise team so far in C group has to be The Village with the biggest disappointment being Lifetime Fitness with Brookhaven probably the favorite.Hopefully Huffhines can start a new winning streak this week we'll see.Lot's of tennis to still be played. Captain Fantastic thanks for keeping the 3.5 talk alive!!

    ReplyDelete
  22. Hey Cary,

What will it take to get a 3.0 section started on here? I'm afraid that we will all be bumped down at seasons end and I don't want to miss out on all the fun blog stuff. I will volunteer to moderate if need be. All our solid partners left us and we have been exposed. Please help.

    Signed,

The KKK (Kim, Kenny, & Kaiser).

    ReplyDelete
  23. After 3 weeks I dont think Sisk is hiding any single players. I think he has avg at best single players and good double lines. Heshould trade some double players to Huffines for a singles player.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Can someone get a hold of the USTA, there is a problem with tennislink, it says Kim Anderson is on a 3.5 team and 4.0 team. This is a mistake and he should be on a3.5 team and a 3.0 team. Please have them make the necessary changes.

LOL at the LTF 4.0 bump ups, winless! Haha! Nice job noticing above anon.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Maybe Sisk should turn Clark and Wiley into singles players.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Alright,

Rightfully so, we have been silenced with losses. I was not expecting much this season with the # of core players we had that were bumped mid-season and our focus was to get players on the roster played and try to find new talent for the Spring. I lost my job and can't afford the pay-outs big John makes so we are in a rebuilding phase.

After losing 4 3rd set tie-breaks in our 1st 2 matches the first weekend, I knew trying to make the playoffs would be a long shot and so we are mixing things up. Who knows, maybe you will see Big Bird himself play some singles !!! (doubtful)

At this point, all we can do is try to have some fun and make some friends along the way. You won't be hearing any more trash talking from LTF, at least at the 3.5 level....all those players were bumped.

Good luck to the teams out there with such great starts. Nice to see a fresh name like Gleneagles. It will be interesting to see if they can make a go of it. I guess we will find out this weekend.

And thanks to Captain Fantantastic for taking over the blog. Who is that masked man???

    ReplyDelete
  27. Turn Wiley and Sisk into singles players??? You then weaken three lines.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Predictions!!

JCC 3-2 over OC (Upset of the Week)
    CC 4-1 over LBH
LTF 4-1 over El Dorado (LTF get son the board)

    ReplyDelete
  29. Where the hell has that little turd YODA been anyhow?

    ReplyDelete
  30. Hey Anon2,
Nice job on the under for the Cowboys. Of course, the way their O looks right now, the under seems a safe bet in any game.

You forgot one of the matches in flight A. I'll take
    Westlake over Springpark 4-1

And I agree with the rest of your picks except:

Gleneagles over HP (Gleneagles is the best team in B)

    OC over JCC

    Young Padawan

    ReplyDelete
  31. Let's just hope we play some tennis and don't face any rain outs this weekend.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Thanks Young Padawan. Agree Westlake 4-1. I will try and pick an upset each week and this week it was JCC to pull the upset!

    ReplyDelete
  33. Young Padawan,

I think you better see how Gleneagles does in the next few weeks before you christen them flight champions. They ain't that great.

    Obi Wan

    ReplyDelete
  34. How about some Brookhaven tourny picks?

    ReplyDelete
  35. Royal Oaks will perform surgery on GTC.

    ReplyDelete
  36. There are enough Doctors on their roster to peform surgery. But beat Gtc............NOT

    ReplyDelete
  37. OK, here are the picks for the Brookhaven tourny this weekend.

3.5 Singles K. Clark vs. C. Richardson in final with Clark winning it.
    Epic Fail...Bill Moore

4.0 Singles N. Azhar vs. J. Schick in final with Azhar winning.
    Epic Fail R. Whitson

    4.5 Singles winner Sean Bay

    3.5 Doubs winner Clark/Keener

    4.0 Doubs winner Harrigan/Stevens

    Take it to the bank!

    ReplyDelete
  38. >>3.5 Singles K. Clark vs. C. Richardson in final with >>Clark winning it.

Took a quick look at their records and don't see anything that indicates they will go deep in the Brookhaven draw.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Clark is solid and should be playing 4.0. He will have no problems with singles or dubs with his skills. Bill Moore is good, but not that good. Would not call his losing an "epic fail".

    ReplyDelete
  40. Thanks for your predictions Keith! It is nice to know that you think you will win singles and doubles this weekend!

    ReplyDelete
  41. I heard Clark will play blind folded and left handed just to make it competitive.

    ReplyDelete
  42. OK who knows who are the top 4-5 players on each team? Since its a new group of players who are the "players"?

    ReplyDelete
  43. Best players? Who freaking knows? Everyone is new.

I would guess Clark/Wiley are the best doubles team but there is no way they are still around in the spring.

In singles, I would guess Ferdinand Schoen from Sam Grand. At least his results look strong.

    ReplyDelete
  44. I just looked up Schoen and he is a DQ waiting to happen. He beat a bump down, James Warner, 0,1, then some guy from Vito Nguyen of Oak Creek 0,1 and he had a really good record. Finally he beat a Lifetime whipping boy in Eshelman 3,3. I suspect he is stitting on 2 strikes. He will probably throw all his matches now.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Schoen is good 3.5 singles player. His captain must be new letting him put such a better on people when he is a self rate.
Not his fault as he is from Germany and was not sure at what level to start.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Did you see these guys play? I was at the BH tourney today and like Montalvo/Danh in dubs. Both played well. Clark won but didn't look like much. Keener got drilled. And Al lost 0-1...really?

    ReplyDelete
  47. Who is Keener and who is Al?

    ReplyDelete
  48. Al is a 4.0 bump-up working his way back to 3.5 to help Bender/Jameson in the Spring.

    Keener is a ringer--

    ReplyDelete
  49. Is Keener a Weener ??

    ReplyDelete
  50. No, but Keener has no weener is more like it.

    ReplyDelete
  51. I know both Al and Keener. Al should not have been bumped and Keener is no ringer.

Al is 62 or 63 years old and is a pretty good doubles player but his singles leave a bit to be desired. His movement is a bit suspect. With that said, I hope I can play as well at 62 as Al does. If you think Al Parekh is a ringer, then you may be thinking of his son Mel Parekh. Mel is really good and if he gets moved back to 4.0, I would like to talk to him.

Keener has 2 bad knees and had a brain tumor removed. There is a reason we did not use him in playoffs. Keener is a good guy but he is no ringer.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Zack Stein signed w/Garland---Give Durdy the city trophy now. He will help them out emensley.

    ReplyDelete
  53. What is it with all of the great Garland players and past injuries, surgerys, scars, etc???

It started with the stories of Terrance Wickman with having both arms re-attached and scars down from his shoulders to his toes. Then Wiley and his pulled groin and then Sisk attesting to his "surgical scars" to prove it to any "non-believers". And now this???.....Keener with 2 bad knees and a brain tumor?? John, have you seen those scars as well??

Please don't take this wrong. I am not bashing these guys or their past medical histories but it is beginning to sound weird how each of Garland's great players are justified being 3.5s because of their "war wounds". I am sure there are other players on other teams that have past issues as well.

I do see where Stein has joined Garland. Are you going to tell me now that he has had both of legs re-attached??

Nice recruitng Big John. Hey, I hear John Wayne Bobbit is now playing tennis and is a 3.5. Maybe he can join your team ???!!!

    ReplyDelete
  54. Lol-- John Wayne Bobbit is a good one........If he's good I'll take him.

This is a big roster, and hope to keep most of the Spring. I know Wiley/ Clark are gone, but have to get Bobbit in here and see if he can play.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Wiley has groin issues because he suffered a similar fate to Bobbits, which is why he still suffers from groin issues. The "micro" surgery was a success story, however.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Is Ron Whitson really the No. 1 ranked 3.5 player in Texas?

    ReplyDelete
  57. No, Whitson just plays alot of tournaments

    ReplyDelete
  58. Zach Stein joining GTC makes what is a very strong team even stronger. I think it is safe to say that everyone else is playing for 2nd place.

How the hell is Sisk getting these players?

    ReplyDelete
  59. John has a tennis farm out in Garland and plays the system well. John will use these top 3.5 players (Wiley, Clark, Stein, etc.)to secure the Fall victory which guarantees him a spot at City in the Spring.

In the mean time, he has two 4.0 teams. An A team to compete with, and a B team to manage players back to 3.5 or up to his A team. He has a total of 31 4.0 players on his roster and 18 3.5 players for a grand total of 49 players.

Before you know it, you will be playing for Big John and all teams in Dallas will be under the Garland name.

    Scarry but true.

    ReplyDelete
  60. No new thread with such little play unless you guys want to blog about the upcoming week.

Notables to those who did get their matches in is flight B. Anon 2 calls it again with HP Entrekin's 3-2 win over Gleneagles. Have you seen HP's roster?? He has a couple of Westlake guys that defected: Lanny Erickson and Norm Goheen. Perhaps Stan is tyring to build something here and wonder what type of threat they will be against the flight A top dogs.

Huffhines gets a convincing win against Greenhill 4-1.

    ReplyDelete
  61. say what you will about john (most people do) but people like playing for him. he's also got a lot of guys that play well and get along with each other, so its a good group to get in with. no bitching, no in-fighting. a real 'team' atmosphere and you can credit most of that to john.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Goheen has cancer and will not be able to play much longer. Huffhines plays Gleneagles Sat and High Point on Sunday this week so we should have better idea who the best teams are Fretz??? High Point?? Huffhines?? Huffhines roster includes some of Greenhill"s players from last year and are Dangerous!!!

    ReplyDelete
  63. Oh yeah, you nailed it on the head regarding Sisk and Garland. He only recruits the nice guys that get along, starting with Andrew MacFarlane. Get a clue you fing ahole.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Westlake has been a popular pick. With the bumpups and defections, what do they have now?

    ReplyDelete
  65. Westlakes old guys will get crushed by Garlands young guys!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  66. No one is bashing John. In general, he is a nice guy and easy to get along with. So are his players. That being said, he is also durty, and will do whatever it takes to win, including blatant cheating. He will not deny it.

Because of that, players flock to Garland because they know their chances of being on a "super team" are greater there and increase their chances to going to Nats.

It does tell you a little bit about the players who are willing to join him. They are dying for a victory and have to lower their ethical values just a bit to be a part of the fan fair (either that or just close their eyes to it all and plead ignorance). But hey, it's 3.5 tennis. So what, you go to Nats and win at 3.5. Is that your life's greatest success??? Is it really worth it ????

    ReplyDelete
  67. You had me right until the very end.

    ReplyDelete
  68. You had me at "durty"!!

    ReplyDelete
  69. So Sisk wont deny cheating because you know him and have had conversations with him and has admitted this to a anon. And his players have lowered there ethics to play for him? I must assume you are a angry sad person to assume these things about people you dont even know.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Alright, enough of the deep thoughts and captain bashing. Anon 2, what are the predictions for the upcoming week? Any teams out there in the other flights that stand a chance against Garland?

    ReplyDelete
  71. anon 3:55 - guys who play for john are dying for a victory and that's why they play for him? looking at the records i think a lot of them would win no matter who they played for. try again. anon 6:50 is right, but i'd say more sad than angry.

    ReplyDelete
  72. "anon 3:55 - guys who play for john are dying for a victory and ..."

No, but apparently they are willing to get hurt in Afghanastan, and have knee surgeries to play on his team though.

    ReplyDelete
  73. After 25 years away from tennis it seems some things haven't changed. The hazing is still funny, the crying is still rampant, and the winners all cheated. The only thing missing from my junior days is irate parents. Of course some of these whiny posts sound like someone's mommy wrote them.

    ReplyDelete
  74. zzzzzzzz....I think someone was trying to stir some shit up. Evidently it worked.

    ReplyDelete
  75. I think we need a new thread... even though little happened last week, there has to be something more interesting than this.

    ReplyDelete
  76. you've got HP in flight B and Oak Creek in flight C so far but don't know where their best lines are yet. who's seen them?

    ReplyDelete
  77. SANDBAGGING, TANKING, SCORE MANAGEMENT, FINDING RINGERS, ETC IS ALL A NORMAL PART OF USTA LEAGUES. IT HAPPNENS EVERY WHERE ACROSS THE COUNTRY. AND EVERYBODY KNOWS IT.

MOST PLAYERS MANAGE THEIR SCORE AND TANK A MATCH ONCE IN A WHILE TO KEEP THEIR RATING. AND I DONT SEE ANYTHING WRONG WITH THAT.

HELL THE ENTIRE FALL LEAGUE IS PRIMARILY AN OPPORTUNITY TO RECORD A FEW BAD SCORES TO KEEP YOUR RATING FOR NEXT SPRING.

SO ANON ASSHOLES ... QUIT COMPLAINING CONSTANTLY - NOTHING IS GOING TO CHANGE.

    ReplyDelete
  78. I agree with what was just said just not so LOUDLY.

There are players that tank and there are players who want to move up. Most of us who have been around for several year know who is doing it whether we say anything or not. We accept it is part of USTA. I am never going to be on one of those 'Superteams' but it really does not bother me.

I have to say Sisk does not appear to know how to tell his players to manage scores. The whole Glen Flora thing last year and Clark/Wiley are plowing through teams and winning with no concern for their ratings. If he wants to keep some of these guys he would be smart to tell his players to lose or throw games.

    ReplyDelete
  79. It's a part of all team sports, pro and non-pro. "Most" teams want to win and want to put the best team out there. Managing scores is not ethical, but part of the system. Blame the USTA computer for the problems. Complain to the TTA. Get on-site ratings back instead of the computer. Otherwise, deal with it.

    ReplyDelete
  80. Luckily Wickman is willing to go to war, so you are free to write your filth and no need to learn ARABIC

    ReplyDelete
  81. agree - it gets tiring hearing people complain about unethical captains, players tanking, managing scores etc. all the whining and mudslinging does no good anyway. lets stop calling people cheaters just because they beat our team. suck it up and play tennis.

    ReplyDelete
  82. Agreed about Sisk. His guys have been plowing through the teams that he has supposed to plowed through. Good for him.

I think it is important to get better, and Carey's post about the beers and tv football watching makes us forget what this league is supposed to be about. Having fun playing tennis and meeting new tennis buds afterwards.

    ReplyDelete
