Upcoming Leagues, Flex Leagues and Ladder

Hello guys,

Kind of quiet, although not on the recruitment front I am sure but in the meantime I wanted to let you all know of the many tennis playing opportunities that are not USTA League.

Starting soon are the following flexible tennis leagues:

flextennis.com (registration ends September 12th)
leaguetennis.com (registration ends September 21st) Lucky Thunder registered here, come and get me
ultimatetennis.com (registration ends September 2nd)
NEW! usta flex league (registration ends??, I think it is two weeks from today though)

Also Oleg has started a Challenge Ladder through GTN so feel free to meet up and play some guys who may have heard of or just want a rematch with:

Happy Tennis!

  2. Noticed they split up the 4.5 league into 3 flights this time..Flight A has 7 matches, Flights B & C have 6 matches compared to 9 matches last season. I guess they didn't want the season stretching out that long.

    ReplyDelete
  3. That league tennis appears to be the weaker of the five.

    ReplyDelete
  4. Less matches for the same cost. Sweet DTA!

Of course if there weren't so many 4.0 teams playing up, there'd be 20 or less teams and still be 2 flights. Flight A is almost a 4.0 league flight.

    ReplyDelete
  5. how does that change playoff qualifiers?

    ReplyDelete
  6. HERE IS WHAT WE NEED FROM THE DTA
    1) Men teams should play a full 3 sets (not the match tiebreak)
    2) We should play more matches (6 matches is ridiculous)
    3) Playoffs should be ROUND ROBIN.
    4) DTA should explain how teams are placed into flights. Eliminate the secrecy.

    ReplyDelete
  7. i think most guys would agree

    ReplyDelete
  8. I think Ultimate Tennis is a lot better than the new USTA Flex league. Ultimate is already established, is working well, and has a lot of players. USTA Flex will take a few years to get off the ground.

    ReplyDelete
  9. the best thing about usta leagues is the playoffs. but the dta is ruining the playoffs. they are trying to save $ by having everyone play fewer matches. in 5.0 we played 2nd vs 3rd winner vs 1st. and that sucks. very few matches and the 4.0 guys had a two flight structure that few liked and also very few matches. the dcc should always be a 4 or 5 team round robin.

    ReplyDelete
  10. how would they be saving money by having people play fewer matches? I think it was the only way that it could work out. There will be more players in 5.0 pretty soon.

    ReplyDelete
  11. the dta pays for court time. they also pay the umpire. fewer matches = lower cost. they have definitely moved towards fewer matches in the mens flights compared with a few years ago.

    ReplyDelete
  12. 6:36 am poster is correct.

In 2006, we had 9 teams in level 5.0. We played a four team round robin. Each team played 3x.

In 2007, we had 9 level 5.0 teams and we played a 3 team RR. Each team played 2x.

In 2009 we had 10 teams and we played 2nd vs 3rd winner vs 1st. Which means only 1 match for 2 of the teams and 2 matches for 1 team.

    Anyone spot a trend?

LEAGUE PLAYERS NEVER VOTED FOR FEWER PLAYOFF MATCHES. Just some asshole at the DTA decided to save some money and change a good thing.

I don't know what's happening with the other flights. I only care about 5.0.

    ReplyDelete
  13. If you are only interested in level 5.0 then SCREW You!

Regarding the placement of teams into flights -> the DTA intentionally keeps this a secret because they don't want to be questioned about what they do. And they know they are not handling this correctly.

    ReplyDelete
  14. After a quick glance to looks like the 4.0 D flight is the strongest. It has Oak Creek "A" team, Somabut and Lifetime all in the same flight!

    ReplyDelete
  15. 4.0 flights seem evenly divided. Sisk1 has a great team, he is really going to have manage that team to avoid bump ups before the Spring.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Ummm, well I dont know, but I kind of like the secrecy process. It gives me something to think about.

    ReplyDelete
  17. ID LIKE TO SEE US PLAY MORE MATCHES DURING PLAYOFFS NOT LESS. ALSO LIKE TO PLAY OUT THE THIRD SET - AT LEAST DURING PLAYOFFS.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Somabut will nto be as strong as usual

    ReplyDelete
  19. sisk's team wont be able to deliver in the playoffs. The players are all mentally weak. Cant show up in the big game.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Hi Guys,
Im an HP refugee that was a result of the disbandment. I am looking to join a team and work for playing time. Any where in Dallas would work.

    Please email me at
    lifetimeblows@eddiechokes.com

    thanks

    ReplyDelete
  21. Yep we stink! We lost to King Somabut! How many other teams in the State lost to him? Let's talk after Nats and see how many other teams stink like us, in the Country! I'm sorry, which team were you on again???????? We'll be lucky to be .500 in the fall.

    ReplyDelete
  22. The fall league sucks anyway. Its nothing but an opportunity to manage scores to keep your NTRP rating down.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Did I read the results from last weekends mixed city championship correctly? The great Eddie went 1-2 last weekend? Talk about a slump! What gives Eddie?

  25. Assuming the flights remain as they are now, it seems that Garland Sisk1 has the easiest route to the fall play-offs.

Flight D is the toughest flight with Bhaven/Bartlett having picked up Heltebran's stronger players and a few others I think they are 2nd favorites in the fall after Garland. But they will have to deal with Oak Creek 1 and Bob. Bob starts with Weymer, Jarad & Fenn so that team will be tough no matter what. Lifetime won't be a factor having lost 8 players to 4.5.

Village/Johnson & BH/Pearlman look like the strongest teams in Flight C.

I suspect we may see more changes to flights though as both Bazan teams are in flight A (earlier in the week Bob's team was moved out of flight A in exchange for HP/Bazan so there may be more shuffling to be done - I don't think it's a strict seeding process although I'm sure Spring results are taken into account)

    ReplyDelete
  26. "The fall league sucks anyway. Its nothing but an opportunity to manage scores to keep your NTRP rating down."

Its phrases like that that plant the seed in someone's head that "everybody is doing it". That is unacceptable.

Let me tell you, everybody is NOT doing it. In fact, there are very few who would do something like that.

It is what you put into it. If you want to go out and have fun, and play tennis in the fall, play in the leagues. I have always enjoyed the fall league.

I don't get why some people think that fall is all about managing ratings???? It is about getting better.

You can only control what you can control. So, it is each of your responsibilities to manage yourselves responsibly. If you want to make this a league full of cheats, then it can be done. But if everyone puts forth a good effort together to make this an honest league, than that is what we will get as well.

I play to get better, have fun, and have competition. You should too. It is each of your responsibilities to be honest. Each of you has it in you. Don't give up a year of your life for 1 or 2 weekends in the spring.

  27. someday join us in the real world.

    ReplyDelete
  28. The Houston blog site says fall legaue match results will NOT be included in year-end 2009 NTRP raings. Does anyone know if that is true???

    ReplyDelete
  29. The Fall is about managing scores and players for alot of people. If teams have players they feel are on the verge of being bumped up following the Fall season then some will choose too manage the scores or lose matches to setup a team for the Spring. Guys like Defeo, Kemp, Weymer, Wiley etc have to be careful if they want to stay at the 3.5 or 4.0 level for the Spring. Players will tank to prevent that. Sisk had a team that made it to DCC and only had a couple bumpups and now adds a couple players from the Somabut National team, if he wants to keep that team in tact for the Spring they will be tanking, believe it!

    ReplyDelete
  30. DTA - where was your head???? putting both Bazan teams in the same flight - do you not see a conflict of interest!!!!!!!!!!!
Not that Cary would manipulate lineups, but why even take a chance!!!!! I truly do not understand their thinking & yes I finally do agree that DTA should somehow announce how they determine their flight setups. Is it seeding to some degree & then by draw or is it strickly by draw??
How can we get some answers??

    ReplyDelete
  31. Say you are playing some clown you can beat 6-0, 6-0. Any intelligent player will drop a few games and win maybe 6-2, 6-3. Thereby avoiding getting bumped up to the next level. And there is nothing wrong with that either. THAT'S THE NATURE OF OUR LEAGUE.

    ReplyDelete
  32. All we are asking for is TRANSPARENCY.

DTA, tell us what is the PROCESS for putting teams into flights? Publish on your website or send an email to captains.

    Jane Gilpin and Brian Modic,
Are you so ashamed of this process that you won't tell players how it works?

    ReplyDelete
  33. Hey Anon, Why don't you contact them and ask them nicely how it is done instead of whining on this blog about it? I suspect that neither Brian or Jane read your rants on here. They do alot of good work for Dallas tennis and are always very helpful to polite people.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I heard Jane was going to cave in and notify the teams about the flighting process but Brian talked her out of it. Only because he enjoys reading your raging & rantings on the blog. I'm glad he has a good sense of humor because I enjoy reading them too. I bet you're the guy who is always throwing your racket.

    ReplyDelete
  35. The Houston blog site says fall legaue match results will NOT be included in year-end 2009 NTRP raings. Does anyone know if that is true???

Did anyone who signed up for the fall league notice what year the fall league is listed under? Just curious.....

    ReplyDelete
  36. nice has never worked with those pricks

    ReplyDelete
  37. Fall league is considered an "early start" league. So fall, 2009 is listed in year 2010 in TennisLink.

    - Jane

    ReplyDelete
  38. Actually, that's not true. I don't think Bob Somabut had anyone manage their scores or "lose on purpose", and they are going to Nationals.

You need to come back to the real world. Its not as prominent as you seem to think it is.

As far as seating and flights are concerned, just play and don't whine.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Keep thinking what you want. Bob is not someone to have his players manage scores, but other coaches and players will. Fall means nothing and no one wants to be bumped up after the Fall season, period!! Sisk has a very good team, but guys like Brauer and Defeo are probably one more good season from being bumped. Do you really think Sisk will let that happen?? He already has the base for a team that can go deep into the Spring season. There is no way he will let key players get bumped prior to the Spring season. There are a number of other coaches that will be doing the same thing. Keep dreaming!! Oh and Santa Claus is not real!!

    ReplyDelete
  40. Most good players and good teams manage their scores. And the fall season is an ideal way to do it.

If you dont manage your scores please dont whine about those that do. The league is what it is. And score management happens all the time across the entire country. If you dont like it, dont play.

    ReplyDelete
  41. It is not cheating to manage your scores. Its smart. Who says the computer knows what level I should be. The computer system that determines such things is F*'d up. In turn I have no problem managing my scores in order to play at a level I know is right for me. I know what level I'm competitive at better than a screwed up computer system.
Don't like it. Go screw yourself loser.

    ReplyDelete
  42. ONLY DUMB ASSES GET DQed

    ReplyDelete
  43. Say you find a 4.5 maybe 5.0 player (like Craig Weymer) who wants to play down at level 4.0 so that he can beat up on weaker players. Almost any player willing to play well below their real level will NOT have any issue with managing their scores.

It makes no sense for ringers to play below their real level and then get DQed. So they play below level and manage their scores to avoid DQ. It is as simple as that.

    ReplyDelete
  44. "It is not cheating to manage your scores. Its smart."

That is quite a statement. Now, I can understand about putting a double bagle on someone, and so you try to practice your different shots, BUT, I don't think anyone should go out and lose on purpose or make something 6-4 6-4.

If you can beat everyone 6-0, 6-2, then maybe you ARE playing in the wrong division, and your a pussy for not playing at your competitive level. So, pussy, maybe you should screw YOURSELF.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Why all this talk about Garland?
Defeo is their strongest player and a very good player at that.

Terrell is eratic. Oberto is in la la land most of the time. The Somabut add ons of Brouer and Ryan are very very beatable because they are full of errors.

The real team looks like Brookhaven.

    ReplyDelete
  46. mcfarland is strong. scottrussell.com is a pusher.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Greenhill Rossouw looks interesting with the additions of Carlquist and Fraser

    ReplyDelete
  48. its not cheating to manage scores or tank a match once in a while. that's just smart tennis. cant be cheating since everyone has an equal chance to do it. everyone plays by the same rules.

    ReplyDelete
  49. All you have to do is take a quick look around the majority of people playing tennis to figure out why so many people think it's a pussy sport. And then to top it off, you have all the fing cheaters that go with that. Anyone who tanks a match or even gives games away is a flat out PUSSY, period.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Fraser is way over rated. Play him with a mediocre partner and see what he can do.

    ReplyDelete
  51. More like underrated. Jason is a very strong player and I would play with him any day against any 4.0 doubles team. I would be the less than mediocre partner as usual.

    Bin

    ReplyDelete
  52. A few years ago the USTA employed trained verifiers who watched matches at Sections and DQed players that were obviously out of level. In order to cut costs the USTA eliminated the verifiers and decided to rely only on match results. When they made that decision the USTA knew we would see a lot of "score management" by players but the USTA decided to accept that rather than bear the cost of trained verifiers. So the system the USTA put in place actually encourages that type of behavior.

  53. Cary might not do anything shady but if I get a hold of the lineup card that day, I will be getting revenge on Cary for sending me to the B team, we might even sign up a ringer that day and take that overrated SWAT team down.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Nguyen and Wildberger don't suck either. Look out for Rossouw.

    ReplyDelete
  55. if you play hard every match _ that is its own reward. but if you want to advance to sectionals and nationals then you need some out of level players. and if you have a few out of level players you need to protect them by score management. absolutely nothing wrong with that. all the top teams across the country manage their scores and tank a few matches as needed.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Ok Bin, you and Jason against Kemp and Weymer! Who wins and what is the score???

    ReplyDelete
  57. Hey Instigator boy, that is a good question. We will have to see during Fall City Playoffs.

  59. Hey Anon 6:22am,

Why don't you post your name? No, you are too yellow to propose that you are part of the challenge against Bin & Fraser because you'd get your ass handed to you huh? Very easy to get Weymer (a 5.0 posing as a 4.0) to fight your 4.0 battles for you. Grow a pair.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Haha. Anonymous 6:22 am got owned. Hahaha

    ReplyDelete
  61. I'd still like to know what the hell happened with our 4.5 league this year. The top three teams from 2008 DCC plus the fall champ were all placed in the same flight this spring. This resulted in a major league/minor league setup.

Are we going to continue that approach in the future? We need to either change the process or change the assholes making those decisions. With no change this will be repeated over time. The DTA always seems very quiet about this issue.

    ReplyDelete
  62. In 4.5 there was no A and B league. There was Branch and everyone else.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Bin and Rossouw to my rescue-
Thanks guys. This banter is comical. I love it. Weymer and Kemp are definitely tough to beat. That's why I'm glad they are on my team. It would be fun just for kicks though if you (Mr. Anonymous) would tell as all your name, pick any computer rated 4.0 in the state of Texas (anywhere), and Bin and I will challenge you to a match after we get back from nationals in October. I'm ready and I know Bin is as well. It will be fun...for bragging rights. What do you think?

    ReplyDelete
  64. I love the praise guys and hey i am down for any challenge you got.... im pretty sure Kemp feels the same way...its amazing the whining that goes on here just because you lost to someone better than you

    ReplyDelete
  65. Don't get the hp boys fired up. They might lose to lifetime again

    ReplyDelete
  66. THE REAL QUESTION IS: ARE BRIAN MODIC & JANE GILPIN DUMB ASSES (THINK WHAT THEY ARE DOING IS CORRECT?) OR DONT JUST GIVE A SHIT?

    ReplyDelete
  67. Craig,
If you want to play on a real team next year, give me a call.
    - Rusty

    ReplyDelete
  68. Rusty---
Help me out...who are you what club are you from i've never heard of you sorry??

    ReplyDelete
  69. by the way i was drinking a nice cold one and watching from the stands against lifetime

    ReplyDelete
  70. You really would have helped that 5-0 beating they put on you!! Meyers was nice enough to forfeit his match to at least give you 1 win! Robinson and others were out there getting their asses kicked. Maybe HP would have won 1 line with your help.

    ReplyDelete
  71. HP egoes are out of control. They all think they are 5.0s. Overrated and for once they did not choke like they did last year and in all the tourneys throughout the year!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  72. can it really be considered an ego trip if we can back it up??? i was just following orders we didnt need the win and it didnt turn arounf to bite us with LT losing early. not trying to be cocky but come on give us some credit who else is going to nationals

    ReplyDelete
  73. I think that is Rusty Branch from Oak Creek. And no, you guys backed it up, so it is what it is. You might as well play 4.5 though come fall. You got your trophy, time to move up. 4.0 should be offically behind you regardless of what happens at Nationals now. You especially, compared to the rest of your teammates though. Your play is too good to stay down there.

    ReplyDelete
  74. How much "credit" do you want for beating up on a bunch of 4.0 players when everyone including you know that you are not a "real" 4.0? No one is dogging your tennis ability you are clearly a real good player as evidenced by your teaching pro status. Just telling it like it is.

    ReplyDelete
  75. Why is everyone so sensitve on here? Come on Rossouw, do you really need to come to anyones defense? These are all big boys and can defend themselves if they think they need to.

You only bring attention to the anons when you spout off on here!

    ReplyDelete
  76. goofy anons talk trash about HP players, and then the HP players rebuttle back. Now HP players are considered cocky and the lifetime players come out from underneath their rock to talk trash. haha

    you anons are funny.

    ReplyDelete
  77. with all due respect to Weymer, Gene Davis was a better "4.0" than Craig. Gene Davis owned at 4.5 sectionals this year. Did he get this much heat?

No, because all the lifetime douchebags were not good enough to be on this blog this time last year.

    ReplyDelete
  78. HP is overrated though. Winning nationals will prove otherwise

    ReplyDelete
  79. im going to make love to Jane Gilpin to get a good city playoff draw.

    ReplyDelete
  80. BTW, Craig is better than Gene

    ReplyDelete
  81. not even close. Gene Davis would own weymer

    ReplyDelete
  82. Gene Davis didnt get touched in 4.5 sectionals. not even a question

    ReplyDelete
  83. ill go in on a gangbang of Gilpin for a good draw. i want first stab

    ReplyDelete
  84. That is NOT lifetime that is saying that shit. Sorry. Hate to burst your bubble, but HP has its more than fair share of HP haters too. And Weyemer wasn't even catching a bunch of shit, was he? I don't think you heard one person whinning right after playoffs about someone being too good, so don't blame that shit on us.

AND, btw, Lifetime did play against Gene Davis in City, and he was the one who knocked us out. You didn't hear complaining from us about anyone being out of level then either.

But the answer is Yes, Gene would destroy Weymer, and Weymer is a good player. Just telling it like it is.

    ReplyDelete
  85. What everyone doesn't realize is it's Jarad Kemp making Weymer look so good.

    ReplyDelete
  86. LOL!!! Jared's good, but, he's no Weymer.

    ReplyDelete
  87. Weymer and Davis are both great players. Any team would take them in a nanosecond. Until they play, nobody knows who would win.

The superior team is going to Nationals, get over it!!

Pull for our team that is represesnting Texas! They have earned it!!! Every team at State had the same shot to go to Nats. The King prevailed and may their success continue.

Weymer- I doubt that was Rusty Branch.

    I hope you guy's dominate!!!

All the haters should fly to Vegas to witness what the USTA deems 4.0 lol

    ReplyDelete
  88. John's right.

Overall, Dallas men win less than our fair share of Sectionals. And Texas teams win less than their fair share at Nationals. (That's documented on the USTA Website.) Dallas has way too many poor sports and crybabies.

    ReplyDelete
  89. DALLAS HAS BY FAR THE MOST USTA LEAGUE TEAMS IN TEXAS. In 2009:

    LEVEL 4.5
    Dallas 20, Houston 14, Austin 8, San Antonio 6, FTW 5 etc

    LEVEL 4.0
    Dallas 40, Houston 31, San Antonio 15, FTW 12, Corpus 8, NETX 7, etc

    LEVEL 3.5
    Dallas 27, Austin 20, FTW 18, San Antonio 16, Houston 15, NETX 9, etc

    LEVEL 3.0
    Dallas 9, FTW 6, San Antonio 5, NETX 4, Austin 4

Overall, none of the other cities in Texas have anywhere near the number of players and teams that we have.

    - Jane

    ReplyDelete
  90. Weymer, I see you signed up for a 4.0 team. Not that on am any sort of great player, just a reflex guy with averge tennis skills. But for you, time to come on up.

We will give you the benefit that you most likely signed up before your team went to Nationals, and that you played as well as you did in sectionals. Your a very good player, and you were awesome in sectionals. Made some tremendous shots and plays. You know your level.

Find a 4.5 team, you still have time. Anyone would be happy to have you. Don't be an embarassment where people look at you and think your a cheat when you walk on the court now.

I read some of the posts, and figured I would put my name behind this rather then be some anonymous face. At least you know who is saying this. Your a great player, you should not play 4.0 anymore. It is beneath your skill set. Come on up.

    ReplyDelete
  91. You are right Brian. That freaking Weymer is way out of level and he knows it. I'm surprised the guy doesnt play mixed doubles so that he could hit his 120 mph serve at defenseless women. What an ass.

    ReplyDelete
  92. Just looked at those numbers that "Jane" posted. From the looks of it there appear to be about twice as many 4.0 teams as 4.5 teams. There were a lot of complaints that the 12 teams at 4.5 Sectionals were not enough in light of the fact that 4.0 had 20. If anything, it appears that 4.5 may have been OVERREPRESENTED, based on those numbers, which don't even include small cities with no 4.5 leagues.

    ReplyDelete
  93. Morrison,
The next time I see you you are going to be spitting teeth.
    - Craig

    ReplyDelete
  94. Hey Guys,
Lighten up. There's way to much BS on this blog about ringers and sandbaggers.

Weymer was not DQed at 4.0. So by the USTA's defintion he is OK to play at that level. Brian, your view about what constitutes a 4.0 player is NOT relevant. It is only the USTA definiton that is important. If a player is too good he will be DQed. If he is not DQed then he is OK to play. Only assholes & whiners complain.

Just shut your mouth and let the USTA computer do its job!

    ReplyDelete
  95. I'm a 4.5 player on an average team. It doesn't look to me like Dallas is winning its fair share at Sectionals. So why so many ignorant complaints about out of level players?

In men 5.0 Dallas has not won Sectionals even once in the last 5 years.

In men 4.5 we have not won Sectionals even once in the last 5 years. Sure Rusty dominates locally but his guys always lose at Sectionals.

Anything below 4.5 is not real tennis anyway. But to humor some of you pussies:

In men 4.0 Somabut's team won this year. That's the first time in 5 years a Dallas team has won 4.0.

In men 3.5 we have won 1 time in the last 4 years. (Sisk in 2008).

Mens 3.0 in Texas is dominated by FTW who has finished 1st or 2nd place at Sectionals EVERY year for 5 years. But a Dallas team did win 3.0 Sectionals in 2007 and again in 2009. But that's twice in 5 years. Hardly a dynasty.

Why all the hate and nasty complaints?

    ReplyDelete
  96. Bin is the yellow one, and Fraser would be a solid 3.5 doubles player, average 3.5 singles player at best.

    ReplyDelete
  97. Come on guys!! Don't put words in my mouth! I am not calling him an ass or anything else like that. I respected and was impressed by his play. Hello!!!????

The more people play, the better they get. Hell, I got a lot better from last year, and Johan got sick better. If I work hard enough on my game, maybe I can hold my own at 4.5 by the end of the year. No idea, but it will be a challenge and my game should get better.

Good job, Happy for all of HP. Good Luck at Nationals, hope they do well.

Just did not want to be some Anon Ass saying he is too good for 4.0, etc, etc. Speaking of Anons - Anon, look at my two front teeth sometime. It wouldn't be the first time I have had to spit teeth before. ha ha. Just let me know who you are and when you're coming. ;)

  98. Thought I would cut and paste the above quote so people can read it again...

"It is not cheating to manage your scores. Its smart. Who says the computer knows what level I should be. The computer system that determines such things is F*'d up. In turn I have no problem managing my scores in order to play at a level I know is right for me. I know what level I'm competitive at better than a screwed up computer system.

No one is bitching about last season.

  99. Not sure why so many think Craig Weymer is such a standout player. Sure it was a close split set match, but he lost to Canyon Creeks's Pat Rodriguez. Pat's a decent 4.0 player, but I know many 4.0 players that split sets with Pat all the time, and we're only talking CCCC players which none of you take very seriously.

  100. Its cause Dallas teams don't have the sense to put together a solid team top to bottom. We expect 3 players to carry our teams to and through sectionals. Maybe Branch needs to recruit some more, cause he is still missing what it takes.

    ReplyDelete
  101. Doubles and singles are totally different. Someone can be a great singles player, but OK at doubles, and on the flip side, excellent at doubles and avg at singles. Either way, Weymer may be out of level for Dallas by YOUR standards, but not by USTA, Sectionals, or even nationals.
If you haven't realized it, you have to have a couple of high end players to compete at the higher levels.
There is a reason that Bob only played guys like Brouer, Carlquist, Taillat, etc for, I believe, one match in sectionals. Any one of the 4.0 teams would love to have any of those guys on their roster, including Lifetime.

    ReplyDelete
  102. Just curious, has this Weymer guy played Eddie? How did that turn out, and who do you (all) think is the better player? I mention Eddie because he seems to be the one all the anons refer back to...

And, if someone is playing out of level for whatever reason, all that does is give the lower-level players an opportunity to play and perhaps beat someone who is "better". To me, that's a win-win for the lower-level players. Even if the out of level player totally destroys the lower-level player, at least that player can grow and learn from the experience.

There is no glory in beating up on someone you are SUPPOSED to beat up on.

If more guys would get-to-know other guys on different teams instead of bashing one another, perhaps alliances could be made to strengthen Dallas' chances of competing on a national level.

    Just a thought...

    ReplyDelete
  103. Since everyone thinks Craig is way out of level I would like to know where the cutoff is. Which player should be the best at 4.0, and everyone better than him should get bumped?

    ReplyDelete
  104. Anyone that beats Sisk, gets bumped to 4.5, anyone that beats Eddie gets bumped to 5.0.

    ReplyDelete
  105. Anyone that beats Rossouw gets a date with his girlfriend.

    ReplyDelete
  106. That's a great question Keith. Let me actually get some work done, and maybe think on that one as well, and get an answer back on that sometime today.

Just throwing something out there for now. If you are better than Jarad Kemp and an exactly equal partner to Jarad in doubles, you have crossed that line. And choosing Jarad is absolutely pushing it right to the 4.0 line, IMO, cause he would win quite often at 4.5 as well.

    For singles, Mitch McGowan.

  107. Tennis players are big twats.

    ReplyDelete
  108. Looks like we just found one of the Lifetime and HP haters. We forget that non tennis people can read this blog too.

    ReplyDelete
  109. i'm a 4.5 player. anyone who can beat me is an unethical SOB and should be immediately bumped to 5.0.

    ReplyDelete
  110. If tennis players are twats, what does that make someone that post in a twat blog and does not play?

    ReplyDelete
  111. needless to say i never mentioned anything about teeth spitting, not my style sorry boys. i have no problem putting my name on what i say unlike alot of yall but back on topic i will challenge anyone who wants to play me i have no problem loosing to a better playing if i cant help it so if yall think eddie or davis..even though i dont know either of them it would be a good time i havent played a real singles match in a couple years so it might be interesting..and to the comment about me serving 120 at ladies...really...whoever you are i probably already did it to you at sectionals and you didnt seem to complain then so why start now. im not an ass i just play my best and hope for a win...and let kemp carry me through i would never play like that against a lady its not nice and im a nice guy

    ReplyDelete
  112. Eddie is no Davis. Seriously!!!

Funny how my name keeps coming up here and I have not posted in over 2 weeks. yes I did lose 2 mixed doubs matches, but our team won and is heading to sectionals. My wife and I saw 2 strong teams at Line 1. Lost 2 close matches, but played well. TEAM won.

I only saw Weymer play for like 5 mins or so. Looks pretty damn good. Hard to talk trash on Doubs because it is a real team effort.

    Good luck at Nats HP.

    Eddie

    ReplyDelete
  113. Don't know about all this 4.0 and 4.5 rating stuff. But HP wins at the most important stat of all.

No, I'm not talking about going to Nats. That is nice.

But what really matters is they have the hottest wives/girlfriends of any team going.

    Scoreboard!

    ReplyDelete
  114. King Eddie, Welcome back! Its not the same on here without you. In reviewing your two loses in mixed last weekend it apprears that you lost in straight sets to J. Palacoiz a 3.5 guy and C. Ellis a 4.0 in a third set... let me guess, you had a bad day?

Weymer would kill Eddie, and Gene would kill Weymer! IMO...

    ReplyDelete
  115. gotta agree (naturally) with the anon 12:59 post. no complaints on that front.

    ReplyDelete
  116. with all this talk i really think i need to play eddie and gene so everyone would stop talking about it.. anytime boys

    ReplyDelete
  117. No doubt about it, HP will win nationals......guaranteed!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  118. Just got back to the computer. So, Keith, what do you think of my choices?

If you are better than Kemp in doubles or Mitch in singles, you are officially over the line. Who are the two people you would pick for singles and doubles respectively? Speeding, but not reckless driving over the limit 4.0s?

    ReplyDelete
  119. As Weymer's wife I ask that you stop blogging so much about him. It's really going to his head. And trust me he does not need a bigger ego. For all you haters...he's better than you so get the F*^k over it and STOP talking about it! Thanks boys.

    ReplyDelete
  120. no way did that just happen.. some lifetime poser having nothing to do on a friday night

    ReplyDelete
  121. lifetime retards at it again...

    ReplyDelete
  122. Dont be blaming that on LTF.

    ReplyDelete
  123. Morrison is still correct. Weymer is a definite pussy for not moving up to 4.5 in the fall. He must really enjoy beating up on lesser players.

    ReplyDelete
  124. OPEN LETTER TO BRIAN MODIC
DTA eletions are coming up in September. If you plan to function as Director of Leagues please DO YOUR JOB OR STEP DOWN and let someone else do it _ preferrably someone who gives a shit.

Here is what most players want:
    1) We want round robin playoffs. Not 3rd vs 2nd vs 1st BS. And not the two-tier apprioach with 6 teasms. It doesnt have to be that way. More playoff matches are better than fewer.
    2) Tell us what PROCESS is used to put teams into flights. This should not be a back room secretive process. If you're not ashamed of what you are doing then tell us all how it works. Players have a right to know.
    3) League men at want to play a full three sets. (And we did that for many years until a "riggered" voting process changed it.) If we cant do that in the local league at least we should play a full 3 sets in the DCC.

These changes are supported by the vast majority of men playing leagues in Dallas.

I think you are too lazy and too big an asshole to implement needed improvements. But I hope I am wrong.

    ReplyDelete
  125. since 95% of you bloggers are not going to nationals and Craig is a bit too much for you guys why don't you just play down. I thought everyone wanted better competition in Dallas, you get it you complain. You have played the best of the best in Texas- you faired how you faired. This isn't a tournament points standing it is a team effort, and with that comes line ups, depth and execution. No team did it other than bob. No other team from Dallas, Houston, Lubb ect. Give it a rest, the problem is you all are stuck in your bubble and haven't seen players outside the state. It isn't about whos doing it, it is about the usta and their rules, HP plays by them and you complain, everyone says they are better, but face it you aren't. The cowboys were a better team than the Giants who won the SB a few years ago, but who are the champs! Next season is next season but for those guys They are Texas just talk trash after they bring it back to Dallas. Then you might get some bragging rights that you didnt' go because of that National team. They have a shot. A real shot, so really put up or shut up, make sure your capt puts you vs those guys so you can go down.

    Go Texas!

    ReplyDelete
  126. Your choices are pretty good. The problem is how bad would you have to beat them? What if one of them has a bad day and loses 6-4 6-4 against a player they would usually beat? Would you have to beat them a couple of times? Most 4.0's have good days and bad days. That is what keeps them 4.0. The system we have does a pretty good job of moving players up and down. As I always say someone has to be the best player in 4.0. Hopefully that person is on your team.

    ReplyDelete
  127. i agree with playing more matches at playoffs and full 3 sets + some info about putting teams in flights doesnt seem to hard

    ReplyDelete
  128. Curious if any local areas in the various Sections play out third set anymore. Was Dallas the last one before it also changed?

If so, it may be a tough sell to return to playing it out.

    ReplyDelete
  129. Calling Brian an @&&#*$% probably won't endear your suggestions to him.

    ReplyDelete
  130. let's call a spade a spade. the guy has made no attempt whatsoever to improve our league.

In the last 2 years we have seen fewer and fewer playoff matches, a move to a "match tiebreak" and many screw ups with placement of teams in flights. (And ongoing secrecy surrounding that issue.)

    WTF ?

    ReplyDelete
  131. The DTA sponsored "vote" on the 3rd set tiebreak was rigged. They included women and seniors under the assumption that everyone had to do it the same way. Men were overwhelmingly in favor of playing out a full 3 sets. If the women want to play the tiebreak, let them. Same goes for the old farts over 50. That does not have to impact mens leagues.

    ReplyDelete
  132. MODIC IS A 4.5 PLAYER. BUT THIS YEAR HE PUT THE #1, #2, and #3 TEAMS FROM THE 2008 DCC INTO THE SAME FLIGHT IN 2009 - ALONG WITH THE FALL WINNER. THAT WAS REALLY IGNORANT.

    ReplyDelete
  133. this type of stuff looks pretty simple. how does it get screwed up so badly?

    ReplyDelete
  134. BEST WAY TO GET THE ATTENTION OF THE DTA IS TO NOT GO TO THEIR DALLAS CUP.

Don't go to their dinner, their silent auction and dont play in their Dallas Cup competition.

I'm not giving them any more of my $ until they at least try to improve league administration.

    ReplyDelete
  135. I don't participate in the Dallas Cup. It's just a rip off anyway. And the money goes to cover expensive DTA office facilities. If you want to donate towards charities _ there are much better ones out there. Mark Ferrell's "My Possibilities" is one example of a very worthwhile cause. The Denise Terrill charity is another good one.

    ReplyDelete
  136. I don't believe that Modic is responsible for the men's 4.5 draws. It would be a conflict of interest since he plays at that level. He's only one of several at the DTA who coordinate the leagues ...

    http://www.texas.usta.com/Global/Custom%20Pages/USA%20League%20Tennis%20Pages/1534_Coordinators.aspx

    ReplyDelete
  137. the dta has a dinner AND a silent auction?

    ReplyDelete
  138. modic is vp of leagues. its his responsibility to put a decent process in place to fairly place teams into flights. others can then handle the details.

also its his responsibility to communicate the process to players. modic does nothing but suck his thumb.

    ReplyDelete
  139. LETS FIND LEGIT GOOD CHARITIES TO SUPPORT THAT REALLY HELP PEOPLE. I THINK IF YOU LOOK UNDER THE COVERS YOU FIND THE DTA MOSTLY HELPS THEMSELVES.

    ReplyDelete
  140. i think you have a brain lock.

    ReplyDelete
  141. lifetime sucks. Sorry..it's been awhile. Had to get that out of my system.

    ReplyDelete
  142. who sucks more. lifetime or DTA?

    ReplyDelete
  143. I would say your mothers sucks best, then DTA, and finally lifetime.

    ReplyDelete
  144. Lifetime is the self proclaimed best at everything. When it comes to suckage, I have to agree that they are the pinnacle of suck.

    ReplyDelete
  145. I have to agree with the above poster, the anons mom is a very good sucker! She must have had a lot of practice!

    ReplyDelete
  146. Are the league schedules out? Can they be posted?

    ReplyDelete
  147. I'm really glad those two guys finally hugged and made up on that other thread.

    ReplyDelete
  148. What other thread are you talking about???

    ReplyDelete
  149. The "Denise Terrill Tourney" thread. But don't worry most of the posts have been deleted. For the off season, it was pretty funny stuff.

    ReplyDelete
  154. I'm a 3.0 self-rate, and I challenge one of you 4.0 numbnuts to a singles match at LTF behind the pool, with all the pretty wives and girlfriends watching. If I win, I take a girlfriend home with me. (by the way, which girlfriend is said to be the hottest?) If I lose, well, I'm supposed to lose anyway, right?

Sounds like some PRESSURE to me! Imagine if a "4.5" lost to a "3.0"! This blog would rag you to death!

    ReplyDelete
  155. Fall schedules were released... maybe we can get back to some tennis talk.

    ReplyDelete
  156. Hey 12:41 pm; I'll take your challenge, I'm a 4.5 and will gladly play you. You can have my wife if I lose, but if I win, my boy Snoop Doug gets to have his way with you. Deal?

    ReplyDelete
  157. Pimpin out your wife will not get you forgiveness for your dirty past!

    ReplyDelete
  158. snoop was undefeated at sectionals.

    ReplyDelete
  159. So he keeps reminding us.

    ReplyDelete
  160. I know Ryan and can promise you its not him that challenged a 4.5 to anything! You have no idea what you are talking about and sound a little pissed off about something! You need to just "let it go"!

    ReplyDelete
  161. thats ryan eshelman trying to avoid being identified. i play at LTF regularly and i know him well. he is the ONLY 3.0 self rate at LTF. he is also a guy who want to challenge a 4.0. he is a scumbag and cheater. not man enough to fess up to his post.

also ive heard from others that he is not a very good personal trainer.

    ReplyDelete
  162. I NO RYAN & HE IS A GOOD GUY. BUT HE SHOULD BE PLAYING 4.0. HE COULD PROBABLY BEAT 50% OF 4.0 PLAYERS.

    ReplyDelete
  163. I think Eshelman is gay. That's why he issues a challenge to 4.0 players w/o posting his name.

Also he is not too bright. Eshelman forgot that LTF has only ONE self-rated 3.0 player this year.

    ReplyDelete
  164. ISNT ESHELMAN A PERSONAL TRAINER AT LTF? A 4.0 PLAYING 3.0. WHAT AN EXAMPLE HE IS SETTING FOR OTHERS!

    ReplyDelete
  165. Check out the S. A. draws. What da you think?

    ReplyDelete
  166. Is that guy still a PR trainer at LTF or did he get fired?

    ReplyDelete
  167. Hey,What happened to the 3.5 league preview??? Someone needs to step up and handicap them. How about Sisk he knows almost all the players. Let's continue all the TRASH TALK!!!
