So I thought we might as well have a place to discuss the Northwood big win as well as the Oakridge 0-5 debacle v. Samuel Grand. They lost 4 tiebreakers, ouch! Westlake also had a convincing win. Don Harvey got pushed a little bit from John. I thought John had a chance against him since he crushed me the other day in practice.
Also Mixed Doubles sectionals is going on and looks like the Dallas teams are doing well so far.
Brookhaven tourney is winding down with finals in the early AM. Jonathan Marcus is in the semis at 4.0 in the morning. Scott Miller plays Sean Bay who had some good wins on his way to the 4.5 final.
I am looking forward to the 4.0 matches tomorrow as well.
Oak Creek versus Brookhaven (Men’s 3.5, Flight A)
ReplyDeleteBrookhaven beat Oak Creek, 3 – 2
BTW I totally f'ed up with the 3.5 MOW. I thought that was the OC A team playing. Oh well the 3.5 post got threadjacked anyways. Sorry about that though. I will try and brush up on my 3.5 knowledge. I think the Samuel Grand win makes things more interesting and Westlake does look pretty solid.
ReplyDeleteCongrats to Nancy and Northwood with their 3-2 win over Oak Creek/Branch. Nancy lost a tough match at #1 sgl against Ron Morrison but Northwood took #2 singles as well as 2 and 3 doubles.
ReplyDeleteIs this a passing of the torch???
Also, can we finally stop hearing about how great the Lakes 4.5 team is? They lost to Royal Oaks 3-2 today, and Royal Oaks even gave them a 1-0 head start. I agree that the Lakes looks to be much improved over last season, but that's it. Also, I feel like their flight is so much weaker than ours it's ridiculous. There are 7 teams in our flight that have a legitimate chance to make the playoffs after Branch's loss today, whereas the other flight is probably a 3 or 4 team race at best.
ReplyDeleteIn response to the last post, I will take a loss every Saturday if the team gets the W. This is one of the few times though where I have almost put the individual loss completely behind me because I'm so happy for our team.
Corey you're a good guy and I voted for your team. Why don't you come on down to Beaumont and play tennis in my back yard. I have a big house that you can stay in so don't worry about a cheap motel. Congratulations. Mike Getz
ReplyDeleteI have to assume that is an illegitimate comment. Either way, I don't see myself going to Beaumont anytime soon.
ReplyDeleteMike Getz,
ReplyDeleteI am appalled and dismayed with your 8:10 post. I can not phathom your logic. Go get a job as a Linesman for the county or something. You Sir, have too much time on your hands.
5-0 sweeps:
ReplyDeleteA: H.P. Bazan
B: Garland
C: Lifetime
D: Who cares?
If I played for Oak Ridge I would not show up any more come monday. Who would want to play for a crusty old a**.
ReplyDeleteNo doubt, that was the biggest blunder of the year. RAT was too smart to listen to the warnings! I bet next spring they have a new captain or no team at all!!!
ReplyDeleteSomeone hasn't been listening. Flight D has turned out to be quite the flight.
ReplyDeleteWow, 3.5 OakRidge. I did not think the talent level had dropped off so much on that team from last season.
ReplyDeleteSammuel Grand? Has this place even had a team before? I know the street, but I didn't know tennis came out of there.
John,
ReplyDeleteNice pic, but I have no idea what you caught? Is that a dinosaur?
I laugh how people made fun of Blackburn and Prather for playing 3.5 for Brookhaven (within the rules), but then no one made fun of any of the now 4.5 guys that played 4.0 in the same tourney.
ReplyDeleteof course, the 4.5 draw for doubles seemed a little small. ha ha.
ReplyDeletei will back the Lakes. If they had won the coman at line 2 then they would still be undefeated. they have improved. Do i think they are a playoff team, no. But they arent the weak team everyone has believed over the years either.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you. If my team were playing them tomorrow I would definitely have to take that match much more seriously. They have improved this season and that is all you can strive for as a captain from season to season. The onus will now be on Stonebridge and LBH in our flight to do the same next season. They are a combined 2-38 so far.
ReplyDeleteCongrtas to Samuel on a well played match. they appear to have a solid team with as few players as they have. All 4 tie-breaks were close but the better team yesterday won. Hope we can get a rematch in the playoffs if we can still make it. Ed Ratcliffe
ReplyDeleteNorthwood is now the best 4.5 team in Dallas!
ReplyDeleteNancy has a 2 - 1 record with a nice singles win over Frank Vo. Nacny's loss to Ron Morrison was understandable, because Ron's a fantastic player and brings a lot of heat.
Westlake is easily the best 3.5 team in Dallas. Don Harvey is 4 - 0 and always a sure point. In addition WL is a cumulative 10 - 2 in doubles with three strong doubles lines every match. Cant see anyone beating those guys.
ReplyDeleteWestlake shows you what one sure singles point, several good doubles lines and a whole bunch of 3.5 to 4.0 bumps can do to change the landscape at the divsion. Harvey will be gone after the season but they willproabbly have the automatic pass to city playoffs.
ReplyDeleteI think they will get tested come November but for now good for them. i have been trying to start a bandwagon for them for a year now. Looks like they are finally living up to it.
ReplyDelete3.5 playoff predictions sure to go wrong
A
High Point
Brookhaven
B
Westlake
Greenhill
C
Oakridge
Samuell Grand
Cary, you have too much HP love. They are decent but they have played nobody and really not been too dominating. They have an average lineup. I think they will fall and be left out of the playoffs.
ReplyDeleteI'll back the anon who backed the lakes also, but I think, being in Flight B they have a legitimate shot at playoffs.
ReplyDeleteNone of the teams there appear to be really dominant, and it will come to a few 3-2 matches and which way they go.
At this point I would predict:
ReplyDeleteBranch and Noel from Flight A
Feldman and Pham from Flight B
Flight B is much more up in the air though.
Lifetime beat a strong hackberry team 4 and 1 today. The play by them was awesome and closer then the score. Impressive every line was strong.
ReplyDeleteCongrats to Dallas 8.0 mixed team for winning Sectionals. Good luck at Nats.
ReplyDeletenoel, branch
ReplyDeletepham, feldman
I agree. 3 way battle in Flight B that won't be decided until the final few weeks. Hopefully I'll be playing a little more tennis by then.
Lifetime Barron - WTF!
ReplyDeleteYowser!!! Wow, I don't know how to blog this without offending, but flip flop of Choi and Beck, and that is a 3-2 victory, or the infamous pusher throws off the single player's game, and that's a 4-1 victory.
How are the 3.5 bumps doing? Defeo will be playing for Corey next fall. Glen 2 if he were'nt moving! flight D is pressed!
ReplyDeleteSisk
Gotta love a team that defaults line 2 and line 3 dubs and then lose 0 and 0 in line 2 singles. Why even show up? What a disgrace to the league. No excuses, so don't even try to defend this team.
ReplyDeleteBazan wins 3-2!
ReplyDelete**** WEATHERBY CRUSHES BARTLETT ****
wow! Flight D looks to be a tight one. What a nice bounce back!!! Greenhill and Bartlett are now playing for -YES! Playoffs!- OR -NO Playoffs! - next week, as a loss throws the loser out with Weatherby team set on auto pilot for rest of season.
***
And on a side note, let's give an ever so small shout out to DIRRTY'S sister team "SLUTTY" (aka Easy Garland) for achieving their first and second 1 set victories.
Every line of Slutty gave it up again, but at least a couple of them made LB Houston work, before giving it up behind the woodshed. golf clap, golf clap.
Lakes 4.0 wins over BH Bartlett 4-1, and TBar loses to GH, It's a 4-way tie for first spot.
ReplyDeleteBH has their toughest schedule coming up, 2 out of three are against the top teams. GH plays TBar. Lakes has the easiest schedule, they play the bottom three teams.
I pick Lakes to win Flight D.
Somabut wins their match with everything resting in the FNG(last 2 words are New Guy) - Patrick. Must of had a lot of faith in him.
ReplyDeleteAs much as I hate to say something nice about LTF, cause it will go wild, but nice job Hill. That was a big match up, and you guys played them very well.
Garland gave quite the match up to Brookhaven Pearlman
I'm not really big on predictions, especially with so many matches decided with a 3rd set tie-break (something I'm not a big fan of), but I guess 2 cents after playing SamGrand ourselves, proved to be somewhat accurate for yesterday's match against Oakridge. Should be fun next weekend Ed....kind of do or die for both your Oakridge team and our Canyon Creek team.
ReplyDeleteInteresting results this weekend so far. Still waiting on some in our flight as well as flight C.
ReplyDeleteIt was rather interesting that both High Point teams were sweating it out today at the same time. Noaman was able to battle back and win a big match for us. Patrick Taillat turned out to be a season saver helping out the "other" HP team. Hey I could have said "B" team. Oops I guess I just did.
Good win by Team Eddie, that Hackberry team is the only test left for BH/Pearlman who keeps chugging along as one of the only 4 unbeaten teams.
CONGRATULATIONS TO THE DALLAS 8.0 MIX TEAM FOR WINNING SECTIONALS AND ADVANCING TO NATIONALS!!!!! YOU GUYS/GALS WILL REPRESENT TEXAS WELL AT NATIONALS!!!!!
ReplyDelete-VALLEY
Amazing Westlake is promoted to be so strong yet against Greenhill they lost 1 singles & 1 doubles in straight sets & the other doubles won in 10 point tie breaker. Sounds to me either Westlake is not that powerful or Greenhill is right in there with them. Yet if both teams make it to playoffs will be stripped of role players due to conflict with Super Seniors Sectional playoffs at the same time & will be playing other players than the wons that brought them there.
ReplyDeletenot that anybody cares but my awesome 3.0 partner as now carried me to a great 5-0 record at 7.5 Combo matches. Going 2-0 over the weekend
ReplyDeleteSorry I could not help out Branch again this weekend, but I need a strong partner to carry me. ;)
congrats to all teams winning this weekend.
Cary,
ReplyDeleteThat Hackberry team is by far the best team we have seen this year. They are very good. I know we won 4-1 and only dropped 2 sets, but the matches were all very tight. They are good and I will be shocked if they lose to BH. They have really good depth accross all lines. I predict 4-1 wins for them over BH and Eagles Landing during the next 3 weeks. Eddie
To Robert McHugh, We are looking forward to next weeks match with Canyon Creek. We know a few of your teams players and it should be fun. I guess Samuel Grand is now the team to beat in our division. Also L.B. Houston has a very stong team. I know many of their players and they will be tough!!! The next couple of weeks results shoulb be interesting.
ReplyDelete3.5 Update:
ReplyDeleteIn response to: October 6, 2008 6:56 AM
Sims and Jerry Palaciaz, those 2 guys are both very high level 3.5 players.
That should be the 1 & 2 out of that division.
meaning Westlake and Greenhill
ReplyDeleteTo Corey Noel and the anon at 8:47 p.m. on 10/4
ReplyDeleteThat was not my post at 8:10 p.m. on 10/4. I was not even at home to access my computer. I was in Houston playing in the Houston Fall Fest and stayed overnight at a hotel. Someone is playing games, signing my name and it is not the first time. The real Mike Getz
Thanks. I assumed it wasn't. I put you in the same category with me here as being completely misunderstood and overcriticized. Let the new attacks come.
ReplyDeleteOh, woe is Corey... Life is so hard on Corey. BTW, congratulations on the win over Branch.
ReplyDeletePoor nancy
ReplyDeletemisunderstood or just a piece of work?
Thanks. I would hate for us to beat Branch and lose the following match but we are expecting a tough one v. Greenhill Saturday.
