3.5 Week 8

So in flight A, Brookhaven gets a much deserved week off after going 1-1 in their big tests and should have sewn up one of the playoff spots with those results. Now CC, HP and LTF have to fight for leftovers and it starts with LBH attempting to get another upset win this week as they face LTF. They look like they may have a few strong players that could make this interesting including a self rate that played his first match and proved to be the difference in easily winning line 1 singles last week v. HP. CC and HP have winnable matches so they should still hang where they are at now.

Flight B............zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. I guess we will see how Westlake does w/o the three durdy's who will be at nats this weekend. They can handle a loss so even if that happens no big deal this late in the season. If Greenhill wins this weekend they should all but clinch that 2nd spot and end the hopes and run of Oak Creek playoff appearances.

Flight C
Interested to see how Samuell Grand does as they finish the season but looks like they should cruise in these last two matches. CC should be locked into the 2nd spot since they have two rather easy matches but you never know and GEagles is gaining fast and don't count out the Oakdridge boys who were the preseason favs and now look like they will stay home for the playoffs.

  1. Why would LBH add a singles ringer at this point of the game? Their chances of making the play offs are slimmer than Lifetimes.

  2. To establish a computer rating for the spring?

  3. I dont see anyone out there that Westlake cant beat pretty easily once the playoffs begin

  4. Westlake is very good but can we go ahead and play the matches. I agree that they have a good chance to win it but some other teams may want a chance to find out for sure. Samuell Grand may be really good but nobody seems to know anything about them.

  5. I agree with Mr. Wiley, play the matches. Don't forget they will be missing 3 of their players due to super senior sectionals. All 3 of them are very very good doubles players.

  6. What is there to know . . . it's just a solid group of 3.5s, from top to bottom

  7. Thanks Samuell, we now know everything about your players and team.

I think we heard that mantra from Garland last year. Glen Flora, Don Harvey, Jerry Defeo and Zack Courtney are just good solid 3.5 players. In fairness, if they had taken the 3.5 out of there, they would have been telling the truth.

  8. Are you still crying about last season? What a wuss!

  9. Looking forward to the Spring season with all of the mid season bump ups to 4.0 coming back to the 3.5 fold. I think alot of them found out that they just couldnt hack it at the 4.0 level & cant handle a "losing" record so they are all anxious to come back to the fold. Welcome back boys!

  10. I don't know how many guys will come back from 4.0 to 3.5. The Garland guys have a 5-2 record and no one is getting wiped off the court consistently at 4.0. I don't think you will see them back.

Defeo is undefeated playing 4.0 singles.

There are a couple of candidates from LTF and High Point.

What team do you think will have a lot of guys coming back?

  11. Players that will be either gone or return as I see it.

    LTF:
Blackburn-borderline and could go either way but I bet he is back.
Beck-Never should have been kicked up.
Whitt-Never should have been moved up

    Garland
Pretty much everyone on Garland/Sisk2. Those were not the guys instrumental in getting them to Nats.
Harvey and Defeo will be moved up to 4.0 at year end even though they were not moved up at ESR.
Brueckner will remain at his 3.5 ESR move down.

    HP
David Atlas is the only one that might get moved back down.
Garudhadri will be moved up at year end.
Lafferty will be moved up at year end.
    Chan may get moved up.
Wiley may get moved up but probably not.
Kapoor will probably get moved back down. Don't know anything about him but he played in citys and took some beatings.
Sutherland will not get moved up.

  12. LTF has potentially more players than that. Besides Blackburn, Beck, and Whitt, they still could get Richardson, Bennett, Barron, and Choi, depending on appeals. That is basically the same team that went to Sectionals and would be going to Nationals if the DQs from Garland would have taken effect (lacking 2 singles ringers). Add that to a few core players from the Fall team and you would think Kaiser and Ferrell have a pretty solid team next season. Perhaps they should call Sisk and see how much they should offer a few college players to play down 2 levels.

  13. I know GH is in a commanding lead, but I have seen teams make miracle runs, so I am not taking a playoff spot for granted. I know GH had to sweep the last week in Seniors to get into the playoffs and have HP lose a match to drop out. GH played in the playoffs.

To bad Oak Creek is in our division. Oak Creek would have probably qualified in the other divisions. JMO (Just My Opinion)

  14. Would someone explain how the playoffs work in this league? From what I'm told, the top 2 teams from the 3 flights compete in a league championship round robin/tourney...

Are all matches played on some sort of neutral court, or will we have to be subjected to potential gunshots and muggings (for instance) at Samuell Grand, should they be lucky enough to win out???

I agree, I do not know these characters, and I too am wondering how they are managing to beat all of us. Someone please explain this unforseen turn of events!

If I hear a gunshot in the middle of a point, can I call "let"? LOL!

Isn't Samuell Grand the "affirmative action" team?

    ReplyDelete
  15. Let? Only if the bullet hits you. The likelihood of that is much higher at SG and Garland than most venues.

I think it will be played at Brookhaven so gun wounds are unlikely.

  16. Playoffs are a round robin at Brookhaven. Typically one match on Friday night, 2 on Saturday and 2 on Sunday.

  17. There will be preliminary draws for the playoffs posted after the results from Saturday's competition.

  18. Does anyone know the results of the Samual Grand / LB Houston match?

  19. SG beat LBH 3-1 with one makeup match to play today

  20. are the playoffs nov 14-16?

  21. Don Harvey played at Nationals and for Westlake this weekend. He must have been very busy to play in the morning 2 time zones over and get on a plane to come back and play for Westlake.

  22. The playoffs have always been on Thanksgiving weekend ever since I could remember.

  23. Playoffs are Nov 21 thru 23
