So I know some of you had strong words for the Garland guys but I hope you will cheer them on as they attempt to bring home a national title for Texas.
I do think they are in the toughest flight with Southern and the Caribbean but at least they don't have a CA team in their flight. The good news is the Southern team lost 3 players to DQ (They are realllllllly DURDY!)
Any thoughts on these other teams?? I think So Cal looks good from seeing how well they did at So. Cal sectionals against some pretty good competition.
The Caribbean is always tough. They bring about half of Puerto Rico to Nationals and are very loud and obnoxious. Nobody can tell anything about them and they are almost always very good. Garland has a chance but they have little room for error. They can field 2 very good singles lines and 1 very good doubles line. The other doubles lines are solid and will be competitive but are beatable. If they run into a deep team that can knock off one of their big 3 lines, it could be troublesome. It will be tough for Garland but not impossible. I wish them the best of luck.
ReplyDeleteWatch out for Southern, if they follow the lead of their 4.5 Team they are probably as we speak appealing the DQ's and saying scores were inputted wrong. Not over until they no show on the courts.
ReplyDeleteI hope Garland gets beaten badly.
ReplyDeleteGood luck to Garland @ Nationals!
ReplyDeleteYes, I agree about the teams from the Caribbean! Their very good! I got to watch several of their matches last year.
The Caribbean is also famous for making really bad line calls and their fans heckle their opponents.
ReplyDeleteYes my one experience was helping my wife's team who lost out to the eventual champ (Caribbean) in the semis. They would usually chant after any point they won even on errors and in espanol. They didn't try anything shady though and played well. It seemed like they went after the smaller divsions but now are growing up to the higher divisions and are very competitive.
ReplyDeletei agree with you AR Hacker, even though Southern has 3 DQs now they may just get one lifted by Friday. We have to stop this Southern dominance even if is means cheering for Durdy Garland.
Last week 3 of the 4 nats championships went to Southern and the other to Southern Cal. Maybe we should change our section to Southern Texas but still include the whole state?
Any thoughts on the Southern method of success.
I can only speak on my experience in So Cal where they have a much smaller area to advance out of to get to nats and there is usually a big disparity between the first place teams and the bottom level teams. Many of our groups were neatly organized into A team, B team and C team and the C team were usually on their way back down to the next level or managing their ratings.
I usually ran a B team and it was understood once I found a strong player he could play in the fall leagues or mixed but come Spring time we fielded one team intent on going as far as possible.
Good luck to Sisk, Danny and the rest of the crew from Garland at Nationals! Hope you guys come home with the hardware! Lets keep it in North Texas!

I can attest that the Caribbean team will heckle you. Also, they make atrocious line calls. I requested a line judge and they stopped the bad calls and then the line judge left. They started making bad calls again and when I requested the line judge to return, he simply said that they were not making bad calls when he was there (all of about 3 games). Really?????? I wonder why they stopped?
ReplyDeleteFrom the crowd, I received a "gringo pendejo" chant because I told them they were not going to cheat us and that they needed to play fair. The calls were atrocious and when I got hit by a ball, the cheers from the stands were deafening and our actual opponents were giddy with excitement and celebrating the peg.
If anyone deserves to be hit, it is you. I would celebrate it too.

ReplyDeleteWhats your problem asshole? Greg Wiley never did anything to you and never did anything wrong that I'm aware of. He is a great guy who always speaks well of other people and always treats others with dignity and respect. You could learn a lot from him. moron.
You got a beef, tell us what it is. Otherwise shutup.
I appreciate the nice words. I was hoping that anon was just joking.
ReplyDeleteOne other thing about Caribbean, from reading the boards at tennis warehouse. They coach the players during the matches, speaking in Spanish so that no one knows what they are saying.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your support! All of these teams are here because THEY ARE GOOD!!I will keep Cary updated and give him tips on the "hot spots" since he'll be here next year with CLARK KENT!
ReplyDeleteCary ran a "B Team" in Cali. Just like he does now at HP.
ReplyDeleteGood Luck Garland. Give them hell.

Good Luck to Dallas at 3.5 Nationals!!!!
ReplyDeleteWe are here. Everything looks great and we are ready to go. Garland will bring the title back to Texas. Record heat on the weekend will suit our Texas boys perfectly.
ReplyDeleteGood Luck today.
ReplyDeleteAn HP guy wishing luck for Garland? What next? cats and dogs getting along? Israelis and Palestinians? Republicans and Democrats?
ReplyDeleteIsn't Cal. the team that brought 90% of the team last year as self rated 3.5 players and most of their players had not lost a match all year long. Then went through Nationals undefeated
ReplyDeleteI DON'T KNOW ABOUT THAT. I'm into field hockey.
ReplyDeleteHa Ha cats and dogs getting along! That is some funny stuff. FYI the multiple vamos on my error's drove me nuts..I did say something but it was no good..so I just tried to ignore it and admire their smart play. We still had fun! I messed with their fans and put my face in a couple of video cameras..that should make for interesting home video! As for line calls..I really do not think we gave them any chances to make bad calls!
