So only two matches got played but they were big results as Brookhaven got back on track but has another tough one against the Branch 2nd team. Also in Flight A there is a battle of the OC team as Branch takes on Bovermann but I don't think this one will be that close.
In Flight B TBar should be able to get a win but who knows it hasn't gone well so far for them. Springpark takes on HP/Pham which should be a little test for the HP team but they should get through OK.
Where's Racer X and his rankings?
ReplyDeleteSeems Racer and New AR Hacker are only interested in us during the Spring. Any other 4.5 experts out there?
ReplyDeleteMost of the matchups look pretty boring this week. It's like the preseason right now. The top teams don't match up until later in the year, especially in Flight B.
ReplyDeleteI predict Noel's team wins another 5-0 and proclaims their Fall dominance.
nope I care but I apparently hurt some feelings in my last tirades after Sectionals.
ReplyDeleteOh well, not much excitement as Branch with his new superstar Nick Smith will win the Fall.
Who's Racer X ?
ReplyDeleteAR Hacker - Hey Hey - that was good detective work - you ARE paying attention and you do CARE. Don't worry about the feelings -they have healed.
ReplyDeleteDid you also happen to notice the new pro that your friends at Royal Oaks have added. He is a teaching pro at Glen Eagles.
Any pre-approach on him.

I am Racer X
ReplyDeleteI actually thought about trying to get Nick Smith a while back but never thought he could play 4.5. I should have known better.
ReplyDeletehmm interesting though not overly impressed, he played 5.0 5 years ago in CO, with limited success, not a big deal to see him down to 4.5.
ReplyDeleteNick is a much bigger pick-up and is a good replacement of Durten.
let's see, lets pretend I am Nick Smith and I have to choose btween Rusty's team and Nancy's team..... oh! who do i choose? the team that has shown to be the best in Dallas year in/year out or a team with Nancy as captain.........
ReplyDeleteAR Hacker - what do you mean interesting replacement for Durten. Not following that thought process. Where did Durten go. Curios.
ReplyDeleteDurten is on Oak Creek Feldman's team.
ReplyDeleteAlthough Durten is good 4.5, I'd say Branch upgraded nicely (big surprise). I don't think Durten is close to the player Nick Smith is...
ReplyDeleteI'll bite. Who is Nick Smith?
ReplyDeleteAnd if he's that good, he might "struggle" this fall to lock in a rating.
my memory has apparently failed me I thought Durten was on Branch's team, sorry Todd did not mean to fault your recruiting success. Also thought Durten got a bump but obviously wrong.
ReplyDeleteSucks getting old.
Agree Branch has a big edge over Nancy in recruiting. But some girly men are still decent tennis players.
ReplyDeleteNick Smith is an Open player. I remember watching him in an Open tourney a few years ago and he lost a very high quality match in the Semis. The guy was ranked #15 in Mens Open in 2006, #27 in Mens Open in 2005, #20 in Mens Open in 2004, and even #45 in Mens Open just last year in 2007. If this guy isn't a DQ I don't know who is.
ReplyDeletear
Ok, I looked him up.
ReplyDeleteSo he's a 5.0 playing 4.5. I'm sure he'll do well if he wants to. I don't get too worked up over it. Doesn't look like much there for a protest.
I as well looked him up. He looks pretty good but he is 0 - 4 against 5.0 level players the last two years.
ReplyDeleteThank you guys for looking him up. Couldn't be more obvious that the Branch guys are trying to defend their player again (and there are a lot of them to defend). I already put his Mens OPEN rankings out there so go ahead and ignore a #15 Open ranking. You should be ashamed to try to get guys like that on your team. If I were in Dallas I would go pick up a bunch of college players just to show the losers on this team up. Pathetic attempt for guys who obviously never did anything on their own in sports growing up.
ReplyDeleteI've never met Branch but thanks for playing
ReplyDeleteannonymous 5:03 - that is a good point and i believe that you WOULD get a team together and really teach them a lesson or two - you sound like a really tough guy and they are probably glad you are NOT in Dallas because you are to be feared with those annonymous threats.
ReplyDeleteWe all fear you. Anyone who gets on a blog and says "IF" if lived there, I would beat those guys, and then not put your name. Wow - you have put fear in the entire city of Dallas. Please stop.
He is ranked #112 this year. That can't be good.
ReplyDeleteI never said I tried to recruit him; I said I thought about it. I've never spoken to him. Plus, I assumed somebody who consistently does well in open tournaments would not be able to play 4.5. I guess I need to start recruiting from the open division.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I don't believe Nick played in Colorado. He has tournament results in Texas from 1999 to present.
ReplyDeleteCorey, I think AR was commenting on separate guys in that thread. He was responding to the question on the new RO player who played in CO before. Then he said Nick Smith is a much bigger pick up as an Open tourney guy playing 4.5, as you pointed out as well.
ReplyDeletewhy is everyone so tied uop to rankings, they do not mean crap as far as NTRP ratings. I would rather look at the players record against the level of competition or higher. Anyone can be a point whore traveling every weekend to a tournament and get a high ranking. Many Open tournaments contain juniors and 4.0 level players and up.
ReplyDeletesome of you come of thinking that a high ranking equals a big johnson, sorry guys that is a myth just like shoe size.
Get over it, should Nick be a 4.5?? Maybe, maybe not, I have seen far better players playing at 4.0 and 4.5 in recent years.
Hell just froze over. AR Hacker is defending an addition to the Branch 4.5 team.
ReplyDeleteI fully expect mcheck to be in the mail soon. :)
ReplyDeleteYou got it - there will be a team # attached. you can be our public relations specialist - we need one. dp says you are a good guy and would fit in.
ReplyDeleteI know that Nick has beaten Kevin Durten every time they have played in the last five years from what I could gather. Before Kevin's injury, he was destroying everybody at 4.5. I know he played 5.0 a few years ago successfully.
ReplyDelete"...I have seen far better players playing at 4.0 and 4.5 in recent years."
ReplyDeleteOK AR...I would like to know the name of a single 4.0 who is better than Nick Smith. That could be the silliest comment ever posted on this board. In fact, name one 4.0 singles player who is "better" than a 4.5 singles player who is in the upper half of the 4.5 rating class (much less a 4.5 like Nick who is probably a 5.0). There are none.
Hollywood Nguyen
ReplyDeleteI have no idea who that is
ReplyDeletecheck out the Lousiana Team going to Nationals, Bobby Hawkins, who played 4.0 2 years ago and was a recent grad of ULL.
ReplyDelete4.5 look no further than Benzon's team going to Nationals, so not to far fetched.
If his game has not fallen off to much over the years I would put Phy up against Smith.
Smith may not even be the best player on his own team, that somewhat tells you how skewed ratings have become.
Not quite as dumb as I sound.
AR - what are you talking about? You implied that you have seen current 4.0's that were better than Nick. Why are you giving us examples of people that were 4.0 two years ago and a current 4.5 person.
ReplyDeleteCome on...don't puss out on your bold comment.
when you are good, and start out at 4.0, you get moved up to 4.5.
ReplyDeleteit's not too hard to figure out.
Don't be stupid and avoid the question. He said he has seen better players playing at 4.0 - that means CURRENTLY A 4.0...not 2, 5 or 10 years ago. The questions is who...give us 1 example.
ReplyDeleteOr, just possibly, was he spouting off and trying convince people that there are some "special" 4.0 people (like himself??) that are just as good as the very best 4.5 players in Dallas.
hey douche anonymous:
ReplyDeleteDid you not see I qualified my statement with recent years, hence when they were a 4.0, not to hard to figure out. Guess the education system has failed you my friend.
Watch out for the cheetos they leave a stain.
BTW the I never have said I was a superstar, I am just some sucky 4.5 player.
ReplyDeleteFeel free to look up my record, just spell my name correctly: J-A-S-O-N L-Y-O-N, hopefully comprehensive can be seen, also do not put in the spaces as it will not work. Let me know if you have any trouble seeing my unspectacular record. ;)
This simple but brief messae goes out to our new buddy, AR Hacker, and to anyone who says, thinks, or thinks about saying, or typing a disparraging word about him, his family or his friends for this entire season. OR to anyone who tries to discredit his infinite wisdom that we have come to learn, love, and appreciate over the past few mths. How dare you.

Wow I have a fan or a stalker, please do not go robert DeNiro on me. Sorry I do not switch hit so your admiration of my tennis ability will only have to be via the internet.
ReplyDeleteSorry to disappoint those who love me so.
I don't care who you are, that was funny.
ReplyDeletePhynomenon still has it.
ReplyDeleteGene Davis was the best 4.0 player in the state, maybe the country this year. He could compete with good 4.5s but not the ringer 4.5s who should be 5.0
ReplyDeleteHey AR - I find it funny that you call out a poster's smarts - "Guess the education system has failed you my friend" - in a post where you make a common grammatical error.
ReplyDeleteJust so you know, you should have wrote ..."hence when they were a 4.0, not TOO hard to figure out" (not TO hard)
And by the way, your post was not at all clear. I agree with the other person, it certainly seemed like you were comparing current 4.0's to Smith.
gee, sorry Engls wuz nout my bestest subjict, please fourgive I.
ReplyDeleteOh yeah - my mamma was a good cook, maybe the best in Dallas - but she couldn't compete with Aunt Jamimama.
ReplyDeleteWhat's your point - I am sticking with AR Hacker. If he says it, i believe it.
And - Gene Davis will be the best 4.5 in Dallas, maybe even the country. He rules too.
Remind me again, who is Gene Davis.
AR - Arkansas is known for it's top notch educational system! You are Exhibit A. I mean Exhibit AR.
ReplyDeletehaha
sorry to say but it was the Texas Education System that has granted myself with such a great education.
ReplyDeleteSo basically my 13 years of Education were at your Taxpaying expense. I appreciated sucking away your tax dollars like a 5 cent whore.
Alright now back to tennis.
DAMN! I can't find the grammatical error!!! I SUCK!
ReplyDeleteIs there a remedial blogging tennis site?
Are we to believe that a guy in Arkansas can know how good a TX player is who he surely has not seen play in ~ 2years, if ever? I mean the guy doesn't even have that many matches listed this year & last year.
ReplyDeleteYet AR Hacker has seen far better players playing 4.0 in recent years???
well please define recent years then?
ReplyDeleteOne can easily look at rosters over the last 4-5 years.
I have seen Nick play before, actually believe he was playing Durten. So very good player, but compared to other players who have managed to get into 4.0 and 4.5 he is not a tried and true ringer.
again rankings do not mean anything, hell I could point whore and maybe get into the Top 10 of 4.5s but it does not mean I am a Top 10 must less Top 100 players.
2 years ago I beat the #2 4.5 player in Southern according to rankings and he is a good 4.5 nothing more, nothing less.
The best players below 5.5 will be playing leagues not tournaments.
To Annon, who asked the dumbest question ever posted on this blog, when she questioned AR Hackers all-knowing capability about league tennis players in TX- let's be swift and decisive with this answer.
ReplyDeleteHELL YES - he IS that smart about all things, LEAGUE TENNIS.
To AR Hacker - take that first step and call/email DP and get that #.
AR RULES.
Please go stand infront of the AC, I would not you to be fired for breaking a company lap while walking around.
ReplyDeleteOk so I see Brookhaven winning the big match this weekend. 3-2, they have a few bigger guns over HP.
AR do you have multiple personalities?
ReplyDeleteFirst you say Nick Smith is Branch's new superstar.
Then, he's not the best player on his team.
Now, you've seen better players playing 4.0.
You'll have him pegged as a 3.0 by next week at this rate.
BH / HP will not be played till next weekend - sr.sectionals got in the way this weekend and match had to be re-scheduled.
ReplyDeletenot sure what is wrong with my comments, Nick Smith is the best new player brought in this Fall. I think Stone, Branch, and James are on par with Smith and yes I stand that there have been 4.0 players in recent years who have been on par with Smith.
ReplyDeleteDoes that satisfy your inquiry?
WHO THE CRAP CARES - Please quite dissecting every brilliant word that AR types. AR was throwing out a hot sports opinion and you are too busy playing PERRY MASON when you need to be at work. Go find a cure for Cancer or come up with a new topic or even a HOT SPORTS OPINION of your own for once.
ReplyDeleteAR is NEVER EVER wrong and you guys are just not intelligent enough to see the wonderful spectacular insightful brillance in his thought provoking wisdom and intelligence of all things 4.5. He is on a different playing field then the rest of you bozos.
AR RULES
I am not Bhudda, Alla, Jesus, or the Easter Bunny. I am just a crappy-ass tennis player, although I am strangely enthused by your recent love affair with me.

I agree with AR's point, rankings can be misleading in this system. I just checked out Nick Smith's results and he does appear to be more of an Open player than 4.5 though, maybe somehwere in the middle at 5.0 or 5.5. Over the past several years he has won more than he has lost at the Open level and I recognize some good players that he has beaten. I don't believe a very good 4.5 or the top 4.0 could compete with him.
ReplyDeleteso aren't some of you guys happy that opinions are like assholes, we all one. Of course some of you goofs might have 2, but that is beside the point.
ReplyDeleteMOSES doesn't give opinions. He states FACTS.
ReplyDeleteI thought Cary Bazan was Moses????
ReplyDeleteCarey IS Moses.
ReplyDeleteAR is MOSES.
there is a difference and it's a spiritual thing that most don't understand.
In the super hard Secion A, Nancy's team had another 5-0 win over a 4.0/3.5 team. Branch lost to Boverman, surprising.
ReplyDeleteHuge upset with Bovermann over Branch, but Branch did default a line. I kind of expected that with such a small team. No way they can field 8 players every week with that small of a roster.
ReplyDeleteThey will field 8 on 10/4.
ReplyDelete
